Oh, right. Yea Forums is entirely 15 year old Mexicans.

Because most people directing games nowadays have never heard of it, and those who have could never get the idea past the publishers and focus groups. I would love some more games with based on other famous media and whatnot but they wouldn't sell 10 million copies so they won't be made.

Probably. I haven't thought of how obscure this once massive name probably is now. Maybe a rare masterpiece at this point.

Sadly. It's kinda good in a way though. If it was still popular, hollywood would probably make a reboot of it in some way. I would love to see a game that referenses Carmen (my favorite opera), the barber of seville, ride of the valkyries and more, but that won't happen because opera is too obscure nowadays, even the most famous ones. Which is quite funny as I discovered all the operas I know pretty much from Looney Tunes.

You don't know, but the stage has already seen a reboot version of Phantom where the titular character and Raoul are controlling incel types and Christine is a powerful woman who needs no man.

of course...

As someone who has listened to the original cast recording and seen the true version in New York, it was horribly painful to see such a corruption.

Makes me wonder what will be next. Godfather? Pulp Fiction? Kinda surprised they haven't rebooted Kill Bill yet, seems to be fitting their M.O. perfectly (they haven't done that, right?). Man, the godfather games was so rad.

>Persona 5R announced PS4 exclusive

Now that the Weinstein Company is fucked, a Kill Bill reboot by Tarantino himself might be closer than you think.

I can imagine. I would love to see the play live but I have a feeling it wouldn't feel right anymore, at least not if it's altered in any way. I have a rather large theater not too far way and I often check if Carmen ever plays but I never is, sadly I have a feeling it would feel right either.

yuck. I don't want reboots. I want new ideas. I'm so tired that no one has a creative bone anymore and those who do get silenced because their ideas might not make 10000 gorillion dollars the first 5 minutes.

I would check the Broadway production company vs. the touring one. The Broadway version was the original back in 2013 for me (though I prefer the absolute perfection of the original cast recording). The touring version was the cringe version back in 2016(?).

lmao what's next, we're all gonna jerk each other off over Cats? Starlight Express?

>Yea Forums - Smash Generals and soon to be deleted threads

Well, I don't live in the US but if I ever travel there on vacation I'll be sure to remember that. As someone who both writes and acts, I would definitely wanna watch the original.

I actually wrote up an entire game here on Yea Forums once based on Arabian Nights. I think I saved the plot and gameplay mechanics in a file but I have no idea where it is, but it was basically a female thief getting caught trying to steal the Sultans treasure. She gets thrown in the dungeon but manages to hide the lamp she stole. The genie comes out (as per usual) but manages to trick the thief into swapping places. The former genie then disgards the lamp and it's later found by a nomad. The point of the game is for the nomad to bring the thief back to the former genie and swap them back. Throughout the game you have 3 wishes, and 3 wishes only that you can use at any time or not at all to help you in your quest. As the bond with the thief genie grows, she's willing to help you without exchanging wishes (like the genie in Aladdin).

Why not? Games today seem so uninspired. Actually basing them on previous material could geld interesting results. A game slightly based on Cats could be rather unique.

Neat concept. If you find the file, post a pastebin here. We're way too lazy to steal shit.

What would an opera/musical theatre video game look like? Is such a combination even possible?

Thanks, will do. But I have a feeling this thread will be closed before I find it. And if I don't, I wouldn't mind re-writing it. I have so many ideas for games I would like to make/see that I haven't written down yet. If there is ever a "let's come up with game ideas"-thread (that wouldn't devolve into shitposting) I would love to write them down and share them.

There's a hidden object adventure game with a PotO theme from 2010. I think a proper game would be a dark visual novel "choose your own adventure" that follows one chorist's recruitment until their end with the Phantom and the entire opera's burning.

Something like Puppeteer's presentation I guess

It wouldn't really need to be set on a stage or even be 1:1 with an actual opera. Think of it this way. Theater and operas often use exaggerated movements to express emotion, right? What if the MC had telepathic powers and he used exaggerated movement when using them. And each time a prominent music string can be heard. It accompanies the BGM that's already classical music that changes depending on the mood and situation of the MC. I see a black and white game, noire style, a psychologically distressed MC who routinely goes to therapy. He hates it but he has to unless he'll be put in the asylum. His one true love is classical music and he often fantasies about the theater and being another person. This obsession forces a dual personality to develop and each time he looses his mind or uses his powers a white mask appears on his face. The twist could be that in reality, he doesn't have any powers at all but is so lost in his own mind that he pushes away reality in favor of his own fantasy.
