This is my wife April Ryan.
She is a progressive American teenager with an upbeat attitude towards life tasked with saving the fate of two worlds!

She looks like a heroin addict.

take that back

She looked better in Dreamfall, but her personality went to shit.

Also used goods

Never confirmed

Was this the game about brave arts students fighting against the STEM nazis

Hehehehe yeah that’s a pretty good explanation.
It’s a fucking great game though

Such a good game, shame about Dreamfall Chapters. Have it on Steam(got it for free/in a bundle I think) but never touched it, because everyone said it sucks.

Pretty much. Say what you want about her, but her design was a qt goth.

I thought she was fuckin cute in the actual game.
Her cgi just looked so shitty for some reason

I thought the first chapter or two were quite good, but it's clear that they were stretched thin on time and money. The two main areas are recycled multiple times and the ending feels oddly abrupt.

At the very least it gives Zoe's story some actual closure so I don't regret playing it in that regard.

April is trash tier. Zoë is the best TLJ waifu.

It's not bad.
The first two chapters are pretty much on par with Dreamfall (now that all the bugs and other annoyances are fixed), but after that it's extremely rushed. At worst it skips huge amounts of story with a few lines of dialogue.
There are a few interesting parts later on too though, so I'd say it's worth playing if you like the series. C'mon, you can't leave Zoë in coma forever

I really like Zoë.
Dreamfall's ending is the most crushing thing I've seen in video games

Is Chapters worth playing? Bought it for like three fifty a couple years back and it's been sitting in my Steam library collecting dust. NOBODY ever talks about it, ever.

See and , that's also what I think about it by the way

She doesn't appear for long, but I thought the whole swamp witch sequence was great.

Well ok frens, guess I will give it a try and wake Zoe up.

that's because it was a fucking travesty
gameplay-wise, it's a TWD ripoff, not an adventure game
as for the writing, within the first 5 minutes of playing
>someone goes "can you imagine Europeans still want to live in nation states, how embarrassing haha"
>Zoe gets to cheat on his bf and it's portrayed as therapeutic
>you encounter a bona fide communist who spews propaganda at you

>ends on a cliffhanger
>devs abandon development of next game and then put it on kickstarter over half a decade later
This should be illegal. I haven't even played chapters because i'm still mad about it. The Secret World was pretty fucking good, though, so maybe I should give Ragnar a break.

I know it's fanservice, but this part really got me.
Especially with how Crow realizes he's dead and leaves with April on her final longest journey.
Don't open spoilers if you haven't completed Chapters but plan to do so

That sounds terrible, the Obama era really turned a lot of people into hardcore Marxists. What a shame.

>Zoe gets to cheat on his bf and it's portrayed as therapeutic
Is it at least a hot scene?

>Zoe gets to cheat on her bf and it's portrayed as therapeutic
That's not true. You can flirt with someone else once it's clear that she and Reza are on the rocks, but it's not really portrayed positively. The guy that she can cheat on him with even turns out to just be spying on her for her enemies.

>you encounter a bona fide communist who spews propaganda at you
Zoe tries to get involved with a political campaign early on but pretty much every political group in the city is outed as corrupt in some form.

and you can only join the leftist candidate
Zoe even gives the player a lecture about how Europe was never white

And what happens after that?

She's a character with a moral and political viewpoint, and the group she supports is just as shit as everyone else in the end.

I don't think you've played the game.
The socialist party is completely corrupt and working for the bad guys, as is the therapist who says cheating on your boyfriend is good. Also, the boyfriend in Chapters is some kind of a doppelganger (although this is an underderveloped plot point), and that's why Zoë feels uneasy with him

It's a character driven game, not an RPG.

i'd say TSW was good despite him, not because of him
when i played TSW (years after the original release, when he was already working at Red Thread) it somehow didn't connect with me that he was a writer on the game
i just found it weird that all the male characters are there for comedy relief and every capable NPC in the game (save for the gay hippie biker) is a woman
then it clicked

You're making it seem hugely more black and white than it is in the game

It's tiresome and obnoxious.

i only played the first episode, it was too much desu
the commie (i mean the cunt who works the sausage stall) isn't part of the socialist party, even i remember that

twitter.com/ragso/status/526766166308839424

I never really thought about it that much, but looking back, everything you said is right.

What the fuck went wrong?

Based

When Zoe is in her head thinking about Konstantin Wolf she says along the lines of "Konstantin Wolf wants to return Europe to a White Utopia, as if". Don't get me wrong, I actually think it's a hell of an interesting story game, but I have also literally never seen a game be more blatantly Left.

I'm not sure what the problem is.
Zoë finds the communist woman silly, but still likes her as a friend. And later she blows herself up in a really misguided attempt to fight the power, and makes things much worse for everyone. The game definitely isn't trying to tell you that she's right

She isn't wrong

it's a huge game with lots of different writers, so it's no so apparent early on, and it's not so obnoxious (to me at least) that it'd ruin the game completely
i was only really annoyed when Ami went on about how the white devils ruined everything for everyone
knowing that Ragnar worked on it, though, his influence is pretty clear

I mean fuck golden dawn though

Wow, I completely forgot how blatant it was. Yeah, like I said, literally never seen a game be more blatantly Left.

she thinks she's gross, she thinks selling meat is immoral, she thinks she's wrong about politics. everything you learn about her in the game Zoe hates, yet she still likes her because "commies must be good people deep down"
tell me that isn't shitty writing

Zoë doesn't hate her, and agrees with the basics of her views because she herself advocates social democracy. It's just that the more extremist points are too much

>she thinks she's gross
>she thinks selling meat is immoral
>"commies must be good people deep down"
This bait? Zoe never says any of that.

>tell me that isn't shitty writing
Sure, it shows that zoe might be naive. Now tell me why you think it's shitty writing

Zoë found the /pol/ headquarters

I'm still bummed that they had teased another game following up on this scene, but now will probably never make it.

Im so mad

I didn't hate Chapters, but I hate how they never really answered how they figure that Zoe "saved" April in Dreamfall.

I kept waiting for April to show back up again and reveal that she somehow survived, but she only pops up at the very end.

They should use TLJ-like graphics to keep the budget down and say it's an homage to the original.
I'm pretty sure people would buy that.
Or don't they have the rights to the series anymore?

By the way, I just noticed Red Thread has a new game called Draugen coming up by the end of the month. It looks like a walking simulator though

Attached: draugen_keyart_webbanner[1].jpg (1920x1080, 556K)

They probably couldn't be bothered with that plot point since they knew they weren't going to make Longest Journey Home at that point.
Reincarnated Crow in the epilogue shows that the story still happened in some way

>Draugen
Sounds like a murder mystery with some vague Lovecraft influences.

Might just be a more fleshed out Vanishing of Ethan Carter, but I'm keeping an eye on it.

While Dreamfall has one of the cruelest cliffhanger endings I've seen in gaming, I really loved the full-circle moment of coming home at the end after everything you've learned.

No big cut-scene, not much dialogue. Just trudging back down the same familiar street to the sound of somber music, knowing that you've basically failed in everything you set out to do beyond sitting down and watching Faith die in your arms.

Attached: faith.jpg (1667x739, 82K)

As they said, the middle has a ton of filler. It gets pretty tiresome. Then suddenly in the last couple parts they remember that there's a plot and a bunch of crazy shit happens.

>character has an opinion
>THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
That whole plotline doesn't even really matter and her candidate is exposed as part of the corporate machine.

One thing that probably bothers me way more than it should is how they apparently cut out a big chunk of Dreamfall Chapter's original intro after an update.

There used to be a big sequence where Zoe goes around helping people lost in their nightmares, giving a tutorial on her different abilities one by one and and showing how she's been spending her time reaching out to people during her coma. But now it basically just skips to the final interaction of the sequence, because some people thought it dragged on too long. I get making it optional, but they didn't have to completely delete it.

Attached: 7867565.jpg (1280x532, 76K)

For me what's more annoying is that those mechanics are barely utilized after that. I think there's like two sequences (one big one at the end) that use them.

The adventure gameplay in general was very lackluster. Though that trend was already started by Dreamfall. TLJ is the only one where you build up a proper inventory and the puzzles aren't completely braindead.

I think you can still play it in the Extras menu or whatever it's called.
But I understand them wanting to put less emphasis on the dream powers, since you barely get to use them

Yeah, that's fair. The powers aren't particularly important for the vast majority of the story, and opening up with them might just set up false expectations.

But thought it was a good character moment for Zoe in general. And a better idea for a puzzle than any of the stealth sequences that you have to go through.

One thing I do give Dreamfall props for, were the scenarios that had multiple ways to progress through them. Sometimes you could talk your way out of a situation, sometimes you could choose to fight, sometimes you could discretely knock people out or get someone else to distract them, etc.

There weren't a huge amount of sequences like that, but I thought they were a fun change of pace. Even if the general combat was pretty bad.
