I don't have a cd tray since 2012 and pirating a game i own 3 separate copies of is too much of a hassle.
What's the difference anyway? The only thing i noticed is that you can't exploit the scientist in "we got hostiles" to open the blast door

What's the best Half Life 1 version to play?
I haven't played it in a long time, and Black Mesa Xen is taking so fucking long.

The Steam version has it too, but HD models are enabled by default, so you have to disable them in the video settings if you want the glock.

avoid the source version (not black mesa) at all costs

It's good, but there's no many sections that suck compared to HL1. Way too many physics-centric things. It was cool in 2004, it's tedious now. HL1 holds up better because it leans heavier on the shooting and level design aspects, which are timeless.

For sure, yeah. The world/lore is still one of my all time favorites and the character's expressions still hold up insanely well. There are a lot of great levels too, but I feel like there's an equal amount of boring/outdated ones. The vehicle sections don't hold up, the physics puzzles are a nightmare on repeat playthroughs, and it's really frustrating dealing with getting stuck on physics objects all the time.

HL1 just flows better, there's rarely any downtime after the opening.
