What went wrong?

Gacha

Nothing, Xenoblade 2 is still the best game on the Switch

Xenoblade 2 is one of the best RPGs this gen.
>"What went wrong?"

Whiny faggots that never played a Xeno game who only got introduced to the series through Smash Wii U/3DS thinking Shulk is the only thing that existed.

Character design

I loved X, then 2 was just the parts of X I didn't like and none of the parts I did.

Animefags

Nobody told Saito that he needed to put effort into designing the fucking main character of the game, apparently.
Most of his other designs were okay (some are actually great), but what the fuck happened with Rex?

These whippersnappers better get out of our thread, how dare they come and speak of a Xeno game without having played Xenogear and Xenosaga... Ah kids these days don't have any respect for their elders anymore, they only care for their Wii W and PS65...

Why is Japan so fucking awful at character design? And why do they love belts so goddamn much? Shulk is wearing knee braces made of belts; and Rex is wearing three belts, only one of which is holding up his trousers, which is the purpose of a belt.

making xenoblade a series was a mistake, x and 2 shouldve been their own thing with different titles

Everything went right

Rex's issue is that he's trying to echo Shulk's costume while also being a diving suit, which leads to this weird half measure where his diving helmet is meant to look like Shulk's hood and his pants retract to be like Shulk's shorts. His Master Driver gundam outfit is better.

Xenoblade Chronicles 1 had tight, excellent gameplay with every character filling a good niche that made them easy to pick up.

Xenoblade Chronicles X had a breathtaking world but the gameplay got too convoluted and turned into a fucking mess, most of the superbosses NEED to be cheesed with a specific build (mainly longsword+dual guns infinite overdrive, or with Ares) or you'll get straight fucked instantly. The post-game battles become "kill it in 1 shot or you will die in 1 shot" and that just ruins it.

Never played Xenoblade Chronicles 2 but it looks horrifying generic.

From a character designs standpoint, the only bad looking Xeno games are Xenosaga 2 and Xenoblade 1.

It looks generic but it's not, it's definitely worth giving a try

But anime's been at the core of this series since the 90s?

XB1's characters look totally fine in their default armor. A little bland, maybe, but there's nothing offensive about their designs.

I did every last superbosses with an evade verus with physical superweapon (which is a shit build) and still won.

The game offer enough customizations for multiples builds to be viables.

That is, until you get to the other armors. I don't understand how people can shit on 2's designs but praise 1's. What makes it worse is that you'll rarely have a full set, so you'll have a random mix of stupid looking retarded armors.

They're alright for the most part. Except when it's heavy armors. All the heavy armors look goofy as fuck.

Oh right, that's another complaint.
It's so incredibly fucking grindy jesus christ.

That's why I said 'in their default armor'.
Most of the alternate armors are crap, but the defaults are good enough that I prefer it over having characters like Rex stuck in their dumb looking clothes for the almost the entire game (the Master Driver suit is a minor improvement, but it's still not that great).
