After being here for over a decade, I've read a lot of posts, both legitimate discussion and shitposting, and because of this I have to the conclusion that there might actually be a difference between legitimate shitposts and funposts, or whatever you want to call off topic posts that actually enhance the user experience rather than detract from it. An example I'd use for the latter would be Yotsuba and deep sea threads, as well as Junji Ito, while the other should be pretty obvious to anyone else.
