Can we finally agree that this has objectively been the worst generation for 3D Sonic games of all time? Yes even Mania in it's glory couldn't make up for it.

At least the 06 era followed up with the Kino boost trilogy, fuck Sega and fuck budget 3D Sonic.

3D Sonic has never been good.

Unleash day and Generations Modern gameplay are fine.

Generations was the only good one because it had Cream and Blaze together at last since Rush.

2 blunders out of 4

GOOD TIER

Generations
Daytime Unleashed

OKAY TIER

Colors

TRASH TIER

Lost World
Nighttime Unleashed
Forces
Boom

I'd say the Saturn era was worse.
>a cancelled game that looked like a hot mess with its terrible fisheye camera
>a port of a mediocre Genesis game with a pretty cool soundtrack
>a compilation of the original trilogy, packed with a cocktease demo of what a 32-bit Sonic game could have looked like
>a mediocre racing game with, again, a pretty cool soundtrack

Absolutely. Colors was a decent game in itself but ended up completely ruining the modern games in the long run. Generations was the true modern Sonic's dying breath.

>Even Mania in its glory

I still think people gloat Mania way too much for what it actually is. I honestly think they could have gone better if they had continued to improve on the Sonic Advance/Rush series. Maybe I'm wrong, but man, Mania was honestly kinda easy to blow through and then you get to the final levels that become more excruciatingly boring than outright challenging and fun.

Mania just needed entirely original zones
Hydrocity was easily the worst one in the game and it was the closest to the original

ya it was easier than the original games but it's still a lot of fun
I like the rush series but I don't think it's a good replacement for the classic style of play

Just pretty cool?

>Mania was honestly kinda easy to blow through
It's definitely the easiest Classic game. Though you still had people at launch who never really played a Sonic game getting time overs and shit.

I just want them to fire that talentless hack Kishimoto that can only make the same game with flat as fuck level design and gimmicky gameplay over and over, each one with shittier art direction and soundtrack than the last too. Literally the NSMB of 3D Sonic.

Mania was necessary, not the perfect Classic(tm) game but it proved how well early Sonic holds up and how it really didn't get better than that.

Why cant the American branch of Sega handle Sonic instead thier of japanese counterpart? At least they give a shit about Sonic when Sonic Team USA with Iizuka actually being in charge was still thing with games like SA2 and Heroes.

Well, Iizuka moved back to the US starting with the production of Mania, and on the livestreams they've started calling their San Francisco building "Sonic Pillar."
Add in the fact that Sonic Team is working on the Sakura Wars, and that new mainline game Iizuka mentioned at the SXSW panel could very well be made in the US.

Sonic Team is not working on Sakura Wars. The Valkyria Chronicles devs are working on that since they've been added to CS2.

Even if mania was easy, Sonic games are great because you can put the self imposed challenge of trying to beat it as fast as possible. Due to the mechanics, a lot of sonic games are usually pretty great for speed running individual levels.

>Can we finally agree that this has objectively been the worst generation for 3D Sonic games of all time?
No, don't try to justify you nostalgia. If you unironically believe Forces is worst then any game that released between Heroes and 06 (except Sonic Rush), reflect on your tastes.

Shadow is a better game than Forces. Also, I don't know if you're trying to include Heroes in there, so I'll just say it's also better than Forces.

>Kino
>boost

TOP TIER

Adventure
Adventure 2

GOOD TIER

Unleashed
Generations

OKAY TIER

HEROES
COLORS

TRASH TIER

2006
Lost World
Forces

Boost really killed this franchise.

>Shadow is a better game than Forces.
Imagine typing, thinking, and posting this.
A game like Shadow the fucking Hedgehog, with horrendous gameplay, story, art direction, awful camera, garbages levels that go on forever, repetitive as fuck and made on an already aging engine at the time, better than anything. Segafags are the most delusional nostalgia faggots there can be.
And yes Heroes is in, it's an even worst game than Shadow.

>with horrendous gameplay
Not really. It was just finnicky. Definitely not good though.
>story
Yeah it was pretty terrible and unnecessary.
>art direction
Yeah the realistic art direction does not mesh well with Sonic at all. Even for a spin off game.
>awful camera
Never understood this meme. I've been playing 3D Sonic games more than any sane person ever should and I've barely ever had problems with the cameras in them.
>garbages levels that go on forever
Yeah the ARK levels are the worst about this.
>repetitive
Yep.
>aging engine
Also yep.
>better than anything
It certainly had more to offer than the 30 minutes of gameplay Forces had going on. If it's better, but not by much.

>It certainly had more to offer than the 30 minutes of gameplay Forces had going on. If it's better, but not by much.
Now, that can be a difference in viewpoint. But I prefer playing through a forgettable one-minute level, than playing through a ten times longer level that has even worst level design.

shadow is way better than forces. i could at least replay shadow and enjoy myself. forces has absolutely no redeeming qualities.

I wonder why Sonic Team felt like making the player go through both Heroes and Shadow so many times to see the real ending? Glad they don't do this anymore because it just feels cheap no matter how good the stages are.

Forces is a much better game than Lost World. At least it didn't hurt to play. It was just shallow.

Also, it cut back BY FAR the shitty Graff an Pontac writing.

The only bad game there is Lost World.

The golden era was still the Dreamcast/PS2 era with KINO like the two Adventures, Heroes and Shadow.

>Sonic Colours
good
>Sonic Generations
good
>Sonic Lost World
good
>Sonic Boom
Actually fucking ruined the franchise for about 3 years, not even 06 could do that, but Boom not only sucked ass, it was clearly supposed to be a replacement, and they had to use all their spent resources, so they made another 3DS game to just keep us with that shit as the main part of the franchise. People tried to say "oh it's just like green eyes", no it's fucking not, the designs are now forgotten and nobody draws them anymore cause they were just so bad and forgettable.
>Sonic Forces
good
>Sonic Mania
good rehash of assets, good.

I fail to see your point, anyways the next Sonic game was announced to be in development, maybe now Sonic can finally be controller like he was in the Adventure games, which even as a fan of these games can surely tell you were way better when it came to more circular 3D enviroments. Forces is the same thing as Colours basically, just a little better around the edges, so dont say that's your excuse for acting like a faggot. The 2000s had the arguably worst line-up, despite having 3 great main series games the rest sucked balls, Shadow sucked, 06 was boom although admittedly it didn't stop the series for 3 years, Secret Rings sucked, Unleashed fucking sucked, black knight was decent.

tl;dr no it's fucking not, even if it should have been better.

cringe and underaged

fake and gay

Nah, its not the worst. Forces is mediocre rather than bad at least. Lost World, Boom, and 06 are bad.

This from 2005 until colors was dark age, only handheld titles felt consistent and I would rather take a mediocre one off like Lost World over another Wii spin off gameplay shitfest, at least the next game is so far confirmed to be an american production, people pretend Generations is somehow bad when the only thing people asked from Sonic games at that point was a game that didn't have a shitty pace breaking gimmick tacked on or have janky gameplay.

Really? If you mean Sega of America then I'm hyped, if you mean some shitty third party then I already know where this is going

Imagine thinking Forces is a better game than Shadow.

Attached: Shadow absolutely disgusting.jpg (108x125, 3K)

It has a good artstye, especially the menus. It has good music that isn't crappy edgy numetal. Also, I want to fuck my cat OC.

Face is faggot, you can't use Forces as a scapegoat anymore, your game will forever be shitty now that the fad is gone.

▲▲ you'll never reach the truth

Fuck off, newfag.

>It has a good artstyle
You're kidding, right? The mechanical areas look good, but natural areas like Green Hill, Casino Forest and parts of City look like shit. It's like they tried to make Lost World's blocky style realistic.

It's so bad that when City was revealed alongside Green Hill, many people thought the game was meant to be about different level tropes clashing because of how out of place the blocky trees and zigzag grass looked with the more realistic city. Turns out it was just meant to look that way. When your art style is that inconsistent it's a problem.

Sonic hasn't looked good ever since the artists behind Unleashed, Colors and Generations left ST. Those games were peak modern Sonic style.

Unleashed looks like shit after Apotos, so dont even try that bullshit.

No the jungle stage looks great too.
