Nvidia talks ray tracing, PC versus console gaming, and $1 billion drop in revenue

>PCs are where the action is at, Nvidia says.
Thoughts, bros?

Of course they'd say that, they make graphics cards
Tell me 1 (one) game worth buying a 2080 Ti for

They became greedy. Nobody is going to pay the literal cost of a gaming computer for one piece of hardware, that boasts technology not even used in mainstream gaming. Not to mention the actual performance doesn't even remotely match the price point.

Nvidia fucked themselves by overproducing 10 series cards and memeing raytracing into 3 games after 8 months, and with RTing in 10 series cards, now, they literally released an entire series of cards that are in some ways obsolete. They fucked themselves 2 ways on this one, and I don't see anything on the horizon that's gonna save them aside from discounts and price cuts.

I agree with you on that one, but I bought my 1080ti for $850 and I feel like that was well worth it. Nvidia should've stayed at the $800 price range for top tier cards instead of scamming people. It only affected the market for the worse.

Even a new switch SKU with a more moderm chip inside?

They made too much of a leap to get in on the 4K gaming meme; they're like 70 percent of the way there but you still can't get 4K 60 in the latest titles so it doesn't matter and 99.9% of people aren't going to splurge until the next generation of consoles next year.

They thought bitminers would blindly buy the newest cards, regardless of performance and price...as bitcoin mining was already dying off.

I guess my comments were more directed towards the PC market, but consoles is some sort of a cashflow for them while they unfuck themselves.

>AMD monopolizes console hardware
>Nvidia trash talks consoles

What a surprise.

minecraft
quake 2

I remember when the most expensive cards were about 500 bucks

They didn't over produce the 10 series, the rise of bitcoin mining came some months after. I bought a 1080 for 600 bucks at launch, then prices spiked to over 1000 because of miners. The exorbitant prices of the rtx cards was because of this, I imagine the next line won't be so expensive.

more like gaytracing lmao

the mining fad ended, but cards are still expensive. They realized that they can keep prices high and people won't be able to do anything except cry about it. AMD is too busy putting all their efforts into ryzen.

As long as developers are forced to optimize to console high-end cards are nearly useless

their only interest in the console market is now the switch since sony and microsoft went with AMD

Stop selling mid range GPU at 500+$ for starter.
Ever since the mining fiasco the prices are exorbitant and they sell meme tech to inflate it ever more.
I haven't upgraded since my 970 and don't plan to for a while.

>overpriced cards beyond most people means
>lost money
>complains AMD is wining console market again
Nvidia needs to release new 8800GT to murder GPU market again.

That's sadly true. Gaming is at a sad state, because SJWs now always have to tell a political message and the actual gameplay is second rate. I'll probably end up using Google Stadia for the handful of games per year I'm still interested in. Definitely not going to buy an expensive graphics card anymore.

>be nvidia
>try to normalize a price spike caused by russian and chinese cryptocurrency farmers
>cry when the bottom fell out of crypto and your actual customers aren't going to pay the $100 markup some ponzi scam caused

>to pay the $100 markup
if only, markup is around $600 at this point.
2070 costs only $250 to produce, they could easily make it $350 card, everyone would be happy and buy it
but jewvidia gotta jew.

>8800GT
>mid range GPU used to be ~200$
Damn it feels so far away, I got one for Battlefield 2 back then

Skyrim with 2000 mods

The only game I can think of doesn't exist. Kingdom Come: Deliverance VR Edition. That game is still horribly optimized. For whatever reason some cutscenes still halve your FPS. VR would be even worse.

>it only costs X to produce!
>and i base that on absolutely nothing
The commie mindset never changes

All the best 'raytracing' (read correctly as screen space reflection pathtracing) mods that exist today are built using open source tools and run on all gpus. The dedicated RTX tensor chip is useless and will go the way of Nvidia hairworks.

You base it on die size and TSMC costs of 12nm. It's public knowledge.

>durrr markup isn't a real thing
the cost of producing cards and the chips themselves is pretty well established at this point.

I used my 8800 GTS for years until it died. It really was the last great leap.

>PCs are where the action is at, Nvidia says.
It's almost like the only consoles to ever use Nvidia tech were the original Xbox and the Switch

AMD owns consoles=>AMD dictates what tech devs use for their games full force and what they can spare a few hundred man hours only if nvidia pays them.

didn't ps3 had nvidia part for GPU? nobody works with nvidia twice.

and PS3

and Xbox 360

>generation brown and greys
based nvidia

ATI(AMD) made x360 GPU

He doesn't complain about AMD, and how can it? AMD hasn't introduced anything, the whole market is just getting oversaturated and stagnating due to lack of progress in graphical fidelity. Ryzen is a great CPU that can be used for many tasks, but for when it comes to large scale rendering solutions and/or gaming there's not a lot of alternative to what Nvidia can offer at the current moment.

Of course there's absurd mark-up right now, no one is denying that, but don't pretend you're privy to every single cost that goes into making the cards. Its not just the cost of materials to produce them. Packaging, shipping, retailers getting a cut, etc. all factors in. Businesses don't make money and continue to exist by selling things at cost or at razor-thin profit margins. Of course they should be a lot cheaper but to say
>lol it only costs [X] to make cuz we kinda know how much materials cost, drop that price broseph
Is pretty ignorant.

Ray tracing is 30 year old gimmick tech, they downgrade their cards on purpose with shit drivers so you buy the next one and their cards are baseline overpriced, fuck nvidia and fuck jews.

360 used a custom ATI GPU

So this is true

>make product for $250
>sell for $350
You obviously dont into business. $500-$600 would be more reasonable.

Every game that you manage to hit 144fps.

By action he means money

Thats not entirely true. Those mods without RTX cards will run at 0.5 fps

whole supply chain is public knowledge. if hardware journalism wasn't bought out by both parties at this point someone would count it for you precisely.

144hz bros, is it worth swallowing the 120+ fps pill?

Considering buying a new monitor but 60 fps still looks fine to me.

As a PC-only gamer, that statement is a bit loaded. I'd say it's a pretty even tie between Playstation and PC.

I hate playstation and do not own one, just to be clear. There's not a whole going on on PC though thanks to cryptojerks, Epic store and consoles generally holding back all progress.

Only good for online games which are full of subhumans, so no.

good if all you play is older games. terrible if all you play is modern games.

hardware supposed to have low margins for a reason. it wouldn't be able to sustain itself next gen or gen after that, nvidia lost $1bn because they overstretched market, people weren't ready for next gen for this price. nvidia thought they could pull apple margins and not lose anything.

Fuck off, Google shill

1080ti does a good job of that
>B-but I have to turn down a few pointless settings like shadow quality and SSR!!
Better than buying a new overpriced GPU.

its fantastic. even for basic things like office productivity, the lack of the whole blurry windows when dragging them around, and the lack of smudgey frame transistions on animations and movies is fantastic. Its like they FINALLY caught back up with crt framerates.

Absolutely.
You don't need a 2080ti for GTAIV.

It’s just better visual response, if it makes a difference on how you play the game, you’d have to nitpick or ur some “pro twitch streamer”, same for OLED, I hardly see a difference between a modern day monitor

i cant even get this shit to run with more than 2 GB VRAM. what do? tried following a few different solutions found online, but even the one rockstar themselves pointed to didnt work

Consolebro here

We don't GIVE A FUCK. We too busy ACTUALLY PLAYING VIDEO GAMES

Enjoy your jew CPU and GPU overlords and game launcher war

it makes a difference for quality of life. do you also sit on a $15 plastic chair and keep pc on cardboard box? there is no functional difference.

Good luck finding a new one lol

>thinking GPU of choice is based on games and not the display
Console plebs are so retarded.

I agree that these $1k cards are ridiculous, but selling them for $350 which is like a 40% markup is kind of shit for them. I dont think being somewhere in the middle in the $500-$600 range is unreasonable for a totl card. The price is reasonable for consumers (at least to me) and nvdia is turning enough profit to funnel money into R&D.

Interesting you'd bother to enter this thread and make that post, considering how you apparently don't give a fuck.

Just tell you we don't give a fuck as I play Y's Origins :)

>billion dollar drop
wait, so people didn't fall for rtx bullshit??? is my faith in humanity restored a little?

Yes its godly, but need to have a GPU/cpu that can handle 144hz. Some games for me can't hold a steady 144fps, though I have an old i54690k and 1080 paired with it. I can play OW at 200fps, but can't play Kiwami 2 at a steady 120 fps.

Fuck Nvidia.

>SJW boogeyman
RENT FREE

>bought a 1080 for $350 instead of an rtx card for $600
>running every new game maxed at 60fps 1440p
>when it starts to struggle I just turn off a meme setting to stay at 60
>then turn off anal hairworks AA with sonic & knuckles from the devil may cry series when it starts to struggle again
>then when I can't hold 60 at 1440p I move down to 1080p@144hz

The new cards were are the biggest meme on the planet. I do wish I had gotten a 1080ti instead, but a 1080 will hold for years.

That's a wonderful game, good on you.

>crypto scam rising in price again

time for nvidia to jack up their prices

I need to go finish felghana, lads. Speaking of Ys, though, anyone know how Ys 8 turned out? I heard the initial release was a fucking joke, but I dunno if it got fixed or what. Been eyeing it on switch.

Raytracing isn't one of those things that'll get better like AA did when it first hit, GPU's aren't powerful enough to do the kinda-sorta RTX implementation we have now, as evidenced by my 1080 hitting absolute slideshow status when they did that update that lets new-ish cards do it. They can't do do 4k in new stuff 100% maxed, and they're touting smart-upscaling as a cool feature because RTX tanks performance, even with a coprocessor

People don't want to compromise shit on $700+ GPU's, and even first-gen AA didn't tank performance THAT hard

They apparently unfucked the translation. I heard people say good things about Ys 8 and that it's a considerable improvement after Celceta, so I'm hoping for good things.

All of this is moving to the cloud in the next 5-10 years.

This guy knows whats up. The raytrace still too expensive, thats all there is. And no dlss or temporal shit its gonna fix that.

>PCs are where the action is at
>1$ billion drop in revenue
Lmao

A reminder that all american hardware and software is piss and cancer.

There is an international cabal that has stopped companies/groups of people from other Countries that could easily come up with far superior hardware/software resulting in way better games than the shit being produced now.

Until the american regime collapses we are stuck with inferior technology and inferior games.

Most expensive GPU in 2010: $500
Most expensive GPU in 2013: $700
Most expensive GPU in 2017: $1200

What's the next step?

Any fucking game you want to play in 4k with more than 60 FPS, you retard.

Gee, I wonder why scamming gamers out of their hard earned money with graphics car just 5% better than the previous gen for 500$ more would leave to a drop in revenue!

Skyrim with mods

5000$ mid range GPU

>4k with more than 60 FPS
Yeah, good luck getting a display capable of that.

wouldn't a 1080 be just as good for these games though? isn't the 2080 slower in some instances?

This kike shit seriously has to stop and I'm glad Nvidia is getting fucked

Both those games have ray tracing mods, which I'm assuming is what he's referring to.

Basically. I don't need a gpu that can play games at 60 fps at 4k on 5 monitors. It just has to hit 60 fps on my 1080p one and I can get a gpu that does that for like 140 if I wait for it to go on sale.

Reminder to shill for AMD any chance you get, if you want an Nvidia GPU for cheaper.

How about you drop the 2080 ti to $600?
Why the fuck is it over a grand, the mining boom is over
