Specially the live service focused ones
Why are western games doing so bad?
western games are no longer made for people who like video games
they are made for sjws and normies who only follow the latest hype
What are you talking about? Fortnite is a massive sensation that eclipses the entire Japanese game industry
Crackdown 3 reviewed poorly and I don't think it sold well to begin with.
But as for other live-service games I think it's saturation. When your game needs to have a large playerbase invested for a long time - hopefully spending money along the way - to be profitable, you also compete with all the other games that do that, and not everything pulls through. Not everybody has the time to play multiple anthems, divisions, destinys at once.
Also the pursuit for the photorealism.
There were a pic of the hitchcock saying some shit about realism somewhere....
It's the only one mainstream western game that I know that makes success.
And they are ugly even if considering it is not trying to be photorealistic.
>It's the only one mainstream western game that I know that makes success.
Far from perfect, but Twitch a pretty good way of determining how well a game is doing. Almost every top game was made by a western company.
How else would you define success?

Good job user.
I've had game pass since this game was added and I didn't even downloaded it. A few if my friends never did it either. That's how much if a bad reputation this game has.
>why are bad games doing bad
How does the place they were made matter?
western video games are made with only streamers in mind now
normalfags over the age of 25 don't play anything other than rockstar games and sportsball games. all the dumb faggot zoomers see their favorite twitch loser playing it and buy it, only to play it for like a week then shelf it and go back to watching twitch loser
D&D?
these + we're now stuck with a mirror industry ofg the hollywood model where the big companies have worked themselves into a corner in the pursuit of endless profit by shifting the industry to a FOTM genre model where only one type of game mode is ever truly successful financially, first it was mobas then it washero shooters and then BR
Because you can't promise regular updates and walk out on it. This is the fundamental failure with SaaS, you can't release an unfinished product and excuse yourself by saying you'll update it X times a month when you don't.
Having just started to play Siege I'm not convinced its placement is a great indicator of how active the playerbase is, I have a lot of trouble getting into terrorist hunts and the Newcomers playlist is quite slow too (I realize this in itself isn't an amazing indicator because it measures newer players in a game from 4 years ago, but mind you this is right after a sale, and at night the queue times are like 5+ minutes long)
because they are shit
Because literally every game wants to be THE live service game that everyone plays. As such the majority of games are going to die whilst a relatively small number of games achieve massive success. If you can't take down an existing player or do something new enough to earn a large player base then you're basically fucked
>see every failed Moba/Open-World Survival/Battle Royale game of this generation
Live service is an excuse to push out a broken, buggy product as fast as possible with the "promise" they'll be patched. Not only are western devs focused on pleasing shareholders with safe, focus-tested products that amalgamate games that "worked" into a derivative product, they can't even be bothered to release the games in a functional state. Fallout 76 soured a lot of normies on the concept and it's starting to show.
they are all very similar and the goal of the game is to retain a player for as long as possible, but most of the players they are marketing to are already playing something else that they are more invested in
and you can look up Dragon Age Inquisition, or MK11 if you need a reminder of the comparison
Every game now demands a fuck-ton of commitment with simple one-and-done story beats falling by the wayside in favor of lootbox-filled, multiplayer gambling simulators with basic gameplay features included. If there wasn't a million of them and they all didn't do the same shit but different, they'd be doing a lot better. However, gaming companies release things in waves and follow the trend, so like the WW2 shooters or mascot games before it, it'll take the playerbase getting bored and moving on or the devs realizing they're beating a dead horse for anything to change. That is until the next phenomenon(aka fad) hits gaming and every company runs to California to mine their own stake of gold. Original games don't get the marketing or they have a shelf-life, but endless sequels/prequels/remakes and shitty cashgrab genre attempts are as certain as death and taxes, nowadays, so i'd buckle up for a ride on the shit train cause this motherfucker hasn't made any stops so far and I don't see any listed for the future.
because multiplayer is dominated by shitty but free games
if you want to have fun with friends, why pay money?
Because they're more concerned with image and idea of the game rather than making good on it.
Promises of updates and content and the like are cute and all, but you can't promise content for a game in the future when you don't even have a game that people want to play ready yet.
It's like promising to put a Jacuzzi and home theater set up in the house you're building without having a working electric and water system in place. What happens is that the systems they end up having are not fully equipped to handle the updates being promised, so here we are.
Remember: until there's a game, don't believe shit.
This, its a combination of cutting corners in quality and at the same time hopping that it will somehow become the next forthnight and thus somekind of infinite money making project with minimum budget and maximum returns on investment...middle and high management that knows nothing about gaming and view it as another entertainment project are the best!
weebs btfo
it's like when everyone was making a moba to try to cash in on league of legends/dota 2's success or making card games to cash in on the hearthstone hype
there's a new live service multiplayer shooty game coming out almost every month now and they all want to keep you playing forever but everyone just keeps playing fortnite because they have time and money put into it and the new games lack content and polish anyway
those viewing numbers are so low tho
Believe it or not, some people have lives and don't spend all day watching other people play video games.
that's what I mean retard
those numbers are too low to be relevant like the retards think
Because they are made by souless corporate shits who expect to make the biggest profit with the least efforts. People who blame it on muh sjws are retards.
this, they are literally marvel movies, or nu-wars
forgettable "experiences" with no actualy depth to it, shit out on a regular basis and dlc to make as much profit as possible
