The gameplay is your usual TPS, sure, but the story was a decent twist ON the usual shooter that hadn't been done of that caliber in games (afaik). The choices (or lack of) in the game are unfortunate, but it's needed to get it's point across, otherwise it's just another happy ending. The game also has those hidden-in-plain-sight details that everyone glosses over that honestly tell their own story.

The Last of Us is actually pretty good, and I say this as someone who hated Uncharted and generally hates Sony as a company. It's not an SJW game unless you consider lesbians existing to be SJW. An ACTUAL SJW game is shit like a A Hat In Time putting the trans flag in their game for no reason other than politicking. But gay/lesbian characters that aren't portrayed as one sided flanderizations of their sexuality are fine in my book.

Dark Souls 2 is the best game From Software has ever made. Best combat, best bosses, best level designs.

Breath of the Wild is a pile of shit and the last really good Zelda game was Twilight princess. As someone who used to be a huge Zelda fan back in the early 2000's, the series has long since gone downhill and zoomers missed the memo.

Quake 3 arena is the best multiplayer shooter of all time and still has not been surpassed in its greatness.

Firewatch was a fairly good game, including the ending. The ending wasn't satisfying, but it fit thematically with the rest of the game. The player's feelings towards the ending are supposed to mirror the main character's feelings towards how things turned out.

I think EarthBound/MOTHER is actually a really mediocre franchise and anyone who pretends to enjoy it is just a hipster. In fact, the only one that's good compared to other RPGs of its time is Mother 1.
Here's why I think so:

Mother 3 was pretty ugly looking for a GBA game, but EarthBound really takes the cake. Some enemies like the Garbage Man look like they were made in five minutes in MS Paint, and I say that without a hint of hyperbole. I find it embarassing that EB is considered to be "up there" with games like Star Ocean or FFVI when it looks so fucking horrible. I can't think of very many SNES games that are as ugly. It's embarassing.
M1 looks the least horrible because it's a NES game.

>2. The gameplay is boring, generic, repetitive and linear
This is really the worst. Mother 1 is the best in this aspect because it actually had a semi-open world that allowed you to tackle things somewhat out of order which is kind of unheard of as far as NES RPGs go. But M2/M3 are linear as all fuck, and there's almost nothing to do if you go off the beaten path. No sidequests, no side bosses, nothing. EB is almost a literal straight line.
M2 does absolutely nothing to evolve the genre. People say that it's "not as generic" as other SNES titles, but almost every single Square game from that era plays differently. The FF games, Live A Live, Star Ocean, Chrono Trigger -- each has different gameplay. EB just plays exactly like the previous game.

I don't consider there to be much writing in EB apart from poop jokes. But Mother 3 is supposed to have this amazing storyline that'll put you to tears. But it's just fucking Star Wars with an eco-friendly twist. It even has a Darth Vader clone.

If a console's library doesn't have an emphasis on games you can play multiplayer locally, it's not worth getting.
Nowadays, PC gaming on average is easily more convenient than console gaming. Factoring in sales and the (lack of) fees for multiplayer games, it's probably cheaper too.
Yea Forums virtue signals being hardcore by lamenting RTS games, but for most people they were a casual genre that were largely played for their campaigns, custom games, or multiplayer Sim City where you smash blobs against each other at the 20 minute mark. The reason they're so niche now is because developers drank the koolaid and newer releases catered to the minority esports crowd.
Speaking of virtue signalling, despite pretending otherwise the average PC gamer is way scrubbier than the average console gamer. Pokemon has way more complicated and in depth systems than almost any other JRPG. The average enemy trainer is given a terrible undertuned setup to make the games easy for children, but it doesn't change that there's way more room for creativity and theorizing about setups than almost any non-western turn based strategy game.
In online games, people that complain about matchmaking with shit teammates and not being able to carry are almost always the weakest link in their games.
