abbreviations must have an implied meanining, a shared standard in a language to make any sense. "DS" could stand for Dark Stalkers, or Dark Siders, it's too simple. Yea Forums basically went with DaS to refer to Dark Souls, because Demon's Souls already existed which made it DeS.
That is what Yea Forums went with as a proper abbreviation. Reddit, having its own Dark Souls sub-reddits went with an abbreviation as well, obviously, but it ended up being DkS and being the uncultured swine they are they also used DS because to them, Demon's Souls might as well not exist.

I like discussing new games though. I just wish it wasn't so rare to get good discussions. You have to strike a certain balance between niche and popularity.
