Is it possible for a game to GOTY if it alienates a good portion of it's player base from the rest of its content/design?
Is it possible for a game to GOTY if it alienates a good portion of it's player base from the rest of its...
BABA is YOU
is
BUMP
alienates? how?
I've never felt so retarded in my life as I do when I play Baba but that's part of the fun, right? You get in a headspace where you have to think really hard about every possible combination of actions and it's extremely satisfying when you finally get a puzzle right
Only if it alienates jounos
If they're like me, it's when they hit the wall where they're too stupid to solve any more of the available puzzles.
Baba is keke
This.
You can clear any puzzles by just using your head and taking your time, worst case scenario if you can't solve one you can check the solution, there is honestly only 2 puzzles in the whole game that are badly designed and make no sense and they resolve around that dumb "sink" mechanic that is badly explained
The game is not barring you from the content, your own lack of skills are barring you from it.
This game makes me feel so much like a brianlet. But it gives me such a feeling to complete a level i was stuck in. But i would wish they would explain any new mechanic that appears
The hype is already dead for this one, it's just yet another shitty indie pixel shit now, you missed your only chance to enjoy this game, OP.
Sure, as long as that's because of the player and not the game. And in the case of Baba Is You, that's definitely what it is.
A puzzle game having exceptionally difficult puzzles is a GOOD thing. The solving of the puzzles IS the game - if the entire game were easy, it couldn't be said to have much substance.
Messing with new words and figuring out how they work is half the fun of them. If somebody had explained to me what "level" did before I tried using it I would've been way less excited.
Solving them feels a little tedious to me. I know I'll get to the solution eventually, but it's very annoying every time I get 90% through testing some intricate solution and then discover why it's fundamentally wrong
>start game
"Ok another puzzle based tile game, I'll give it a try"
>A few levels in
"Yo, that was pretty fucking cool"
>Way more levels in
"Holy SHIT this is nuts, what the FUCK"
>Getting close to beating the world map
"Ok I must be getting close to the end"
Level is Baba
Mfw
It explains it through the puzzle design. I haven't had too much trouble understanding new mechanics for the most part and I'm about 200 levels in.
The end-game content makes it one of the most creative games I've ever played. It was so fucking cool stumbling into that. I'm glad I never looked anything up.
tfw too stupid to enjoy
Exactly
I feel you
the low effort uggo presentation alienates even more
Anybody treating GOTY as something more than a personal decision is retarded. My GOTY last year was a visual novel and I wasn't crying like a bitch over the fact that God of War got more GOTY awards from websites.
I'm too stupid for Baba is You but I respect it a lot and if I could rub my two brain cells together and beat it it'd probably be on my shortlist for the year so far. From what I did play (wanna say I got through like 60 or 70 levels) I really liked it.
>beat half of it before my brain stopped working
its fun for sure
I guess a hint system would help
or maybe the peace and tranquility button to save frustration
I need a bigger brain otherwise
here's hoping that the dev's third game (Noita) is also fun and has the meta elements that the dev's other games have
>Baba is You
>Crashmo
>Picross
what are some other puzzle games that are on the level of these ludos?
