PC RPG

In preparation for the upcoming Steam release of Octopath Traveler, what are the best turn-based RPGs for PC?

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth1
Divinity Original Sin
Mary Skelter
Chrono Trigger
100% Orange Juice

Underrail

Ultima IV and V and VII

Jagged Alliance 2, or Silent Storm

every other answer is wrong

Your mom

>taking turns on OP's mom
Doing her wrong

it is likely any other game you play will be better than Octopath

I agree with Divinity, and think that Divinity II was just as good.

The original Dragon Age was solid as well, but it wasn't a turn based system.

Attached: Divinity Original Sin 2 - 20181104134915_1.jpg (2560x1440, 718K)

Phantasy Star 4, it's fucking great.

PC doesn't have good RPG games, and it's a FACT

Fallout 1&2 obviously

DQ11

most DQ are good

They are, but he specified PC. If you want to emulate, then any of them.

Play Estelle's game.

Attached: 6gZv8Nj.png (432x773, 194K)

Might & Magic

Reminder to pirate it since they didn't release it as the same time as the console version and (((denuvo)))

I would be the combat is boring and the music is tales tier.
The characters seemed nice enough but I stopped like 4 hours in.

The SaGa games.

>want to recommend TLR to a friend
>its been removed from the steam store
Fuck

Divinity and IVAN.

Is octopath even good? I reacall people bitching about it on release.

>what are the best turn-based RPGs for PC?
Not Octopath Traveler.

It's flawed, but I enjoyed it.

if you've ever bought some humble bundles, it was in two of them, so maybe you have a spare key and didn't realize

Fell Seal
Druidstone

>2 weeks
There is still time for them to pull a sneaky and delay it for a timed pc exclusive with Epic. The fact that is even a possibility really makes me hate video game companies now.

How is that hard mode when all the best turn based RPGs are on PC?

>Denuvo
I was actually excited for this one, i'm a little upset.

>what are the best turn-based RPGs for PC?
The true king rises.

TLR is getting a remake so it got pulled from Steam. Just wait or pirate it idk.

T H I S

>Hardmode: No emulated games
Why would that be hardmode? Are you implying turn-based games on console are better? How does that even make sense?

Attached: 12344889445.jpg (2000x1797, 853K)

>Hardmode: No emulated games

>everyone posts ports of console games, which is basically the same thing

Attached: 13761383012.jpg (540x540, 26K)

Speaking of octopath. Recently reached chapter 3 and I feel overlevelled for regular mobs but the bosses seem to just smoke me no matter what.
I really fucking hate when this happens, it shows that the devs have done a poor job of balance.
Recommended levels are nonsense too. Like how the fuck am I supposed to beat Alfyn's chapter 3? It's the lowest in recommended levels and my team is mostly around there except for my main who is above and yet the fight does too much damage to outheal, even if I use all my items.
It's possible that my equipment sucks though as I am very stingy and never buy anything.

>everyone ITT whining about denuvo
I thought Yea Forums's excuse for hating it was always performance reasons
this is a turn based game, performance doesn't impact the gameplay here
what's the issue piratefags

Attached: 97856754574.png (595x760, 416K)

I like its comfy environments and tongue-in-cheek dialogue. It reminds me of Dreamcast/PS2 era JRPGs which I sorely miss.

>Speaking of octopath. Recently reached chapter 3 and I feel overlevelled for regular mobs but the bosses seem to just smoke me no matter what.

That's pretty much how all jrpgs seem to be designed. 99.99% of the gameplay consists of random encounters that are completely braindead, and the only modicum of challenge comes from boss battles. And not even for any interesting reason, but usually becuause they are HP sponges that are immune to status effects.

druidstone

TLR only got a "HD" remaster for PS4, not a remake.

>It's possible that my equipment sucks though as I am very stingy and never buy anything.
stop being retarded

I play lots of JRPGS and the last time I had this problem was in Dragon Quest 8 when you first fight Dhoulmagus.

>mixed ratings

wew lad

Stop responding to WRPG-Kun.

I'm a stingy jew you fuck, not retarded.

People who reply to me to dictate who I should and should not reply to annoy me more than any autist could.
I can ignore retarded people by myself when they prove themselves to be worth ignoring thank you very much.

>stop being retarded
How is that being retarded? Buying equipment in jrpgs is usually a bad idea, because they have linear equipment progression, and the +7 attack sword you acquire in village A will quickly get outclassed by the +9 attack sword you can buy in village B.

>I can ignore retarded people by myself
You evidently can't, imbecile.
Good job on ruining threads for everyone because you're too new and too stupid to know when you're being baited by a notorious shitposter.
You're such a massive retard, holy shit.

Shit, you're right. They haven't even given a word if they even WANT to bring it to PC.
Guess find a key or pirate it.

Only person I see attempting to ruin this thread is you. Just letting you know. You will be ignored from this point on, enjoy the fruits of your labor teacher.

Attached: 1383860842904.jpg (250x250, 8K)

How is that game worth 60 dollars? At first glance, I cant see what warrants thay price tag.

This is the worst pitch I think I have ever seen.

Romancing saga 3 rrmaster when?

>How is that game worth 60 dollars?
It isn't. Just a few days ago, a turn-based RPG with vastly better production values released at a third of that price. And that's actually a new game, unlike Octopath, which came out ages ago.

store.steampowered.com/app/954650/Druidstone_The_Secret_of_the_Menhir_Forest/

I'm close to buying Neverwinter Nights 1, should I do it? I played Neverwinter Nights 2 when it came out, barely played on my shitty blue led fan "gamer" computer from 2008, but I had a lot of fun.

I'd like to know as much as you do.
Unfortunately, there's no news on the horizon for either that or Scarlet Grace's western release, outside of the fact that they're working on both.

Attached: 1432518934389.jpg (400x267, 29K)

>Neverwinter Nights 1
It's made to play on custom multiplayer servers. If you're planning on playing alone prepare for the most boring game that you have ever played.
Well that's exaggerated but I honestly cannot recommend NwN1 as a single player game.

Geneforge

I see both positive and negative reviews mentioning that it's more of a puzzle game than an RPG. Doesn't seem very good.

Resonance of Fate should not be missed. Turnbased but with a unique and interesting battle system. The characters are all armed with guns, and the main mechanic is about attack the enemy from different directions to target or destroy pieces of armor. There's also a trade off between dealing damage or breaking their healthbar into smaller pieces, since draining any health bar gives you your main resource, Bezels.

It's decent, but nothing really special. The soundtrack is probably the best thing about it.

what do you guys think about

Operencia the stolen sun

Just took a look at it. Seems alright but I'm not into dungeon crawlers so I wouldn't be interested either way most likely.

I found the music in Legend of Heroes became gradually better the further I got.

>ZEN pinball guys make a rpg
>epic exclusive
lamo

I just saw it on the Steam store

yeah me too lol
that's the timed exclusivity playing
its already out

Octopath Traveler is mediocre as fuck.

I'd say King's Bounty series, but they're more adventure/exploration games with turn-based battles, than typical RPGs. Basically what HoMM would be without economy/citybuilding layer.
Other game is Disciples 2, but again, not a typical RPG.

Attached: Armored Princess.jpg (1680x1050, 472K)

What?
When did that happen?

Should I play on psp or PC? I really want it portable but if there are extras I might play on Steam

Wizardry I to IV, unless you are a casual.

PC so you can turbo mode.

Is it really that boring? I've heard a lot of good things about it. What makes playing multiplayer better? You're still playing the same game, just with others.

You can emulate Grandia
Grandia is best

Attached: 23413415.jpg (636x420, 76K)

The PC graphics are much better due to higher resolution. You can also download the Jap voices if you want. On the PSP you're stuck with the eng dub.

There is also a "mod" that adds Vita's Evolution stuff to the third game which as far as I can tell was only released in Japan: gbatemp.net/threads/release-trails-in-the-sky-the-3rd-evolution-english-patch.531268/

Attached: Anelace.png (500x143, 141K)

That’s pretty huge, Steam it is then

disgaea 1, 2 and 5 are on pc.

SJWs and brainlets hate it.

>Silent Storm
It's not as good as people claim it to be. Panzerkleins ruin the game.

wowie zowie everybody watch out for big brain Brian over here

Wizardry VI

Fuuuck, I just got off a Heroes 3 and 5.5 binge and was looking for something different since it can get samey after a while and you just reminded me I have this in my library. Thanks user.

Finally a real gamer in this thread.

jesus christ, who designed that ui? cnn headline news?

Still no news on the Grandia 1 HD release. He can also play grandia 2 HD right now.

>approximately 2 weeks
OH FUCK ME I HAVE EXAMS THAT SOON???

octopath traveller is dogshit though

Underrated gem. Really great combat system.

I used to call this game 'Octosoi Guzzler'. Is it actually good though?

>Hardmode: No emulated games

That's not hard at all.

being fucking boring and repetitive ruins the game, even before the mechs

what happened with this game anyway

It looks like "Generic RPGmaker title: the game".

What's so good about it?

Attached: 1545606237067.png (1267x785, 99K)

Each attack that you have has a damage and wait value. For example you can have
>longsword 8 atk 6 wait
>mythril sword 20 atk 15 wait
>shield +13 def 8 wait
>thunder 35 mag atk 20 wait

So if you choose longsword, it'll take 5 turns to do 8 damage. The best part is that they tell you how long the enemies have before they attack you and what kind of attack they'll do. So it becomes a balance of keeping an eye on the enemies turn counter to see when they're about to hit you and try guarding it with your shield or doing enough damage to kill the enemy before they get to attack.

So let's say you're fighting a monster with 18hp and will take 17 turns to attack, you should go for the mythril sword to kill it right away. If you're fighting something that has a 5 wait, you should block with your shield and then attack on the next turn, etc.

cute tsundere antagonists and baka protagonist

Pillars of Eternity 2 just got a turn-based combat update. It's one of the better DnD derivatives out there.

Majority of Yea Forums really missed out on this and the drama behind it. Dev is the best shitposter ever.

>the music is tales tier
opinion discarded, even if you wish it was as good as the Ys series, you have to be a fucking moron to think anything sounds as bad as sakuraba mass produced shit

You can get games like final fantasy 7, grandia 2, and the last remnant on pc. Both south parks games too (not teally jrpgs, but they play like them).

name another game with a similar engine, destruction mechanics, physics. jagged alliance is gimped, so is xcom in comparison.

Recently, lads that did Grimlock released a turn based RPG I think. Druidsomething

More mechanics do not make a game better. I had fun with XCom (the DOS one) and this game bored me. Every encounter plays out the same, regardless of map. I don't remember what the trick was now, but there was One Correct Way to play the game that gave you the highest odds of success and there was no point in deviating from it ever.

Attached: GeniusOfSappheirosCover.png (354x500, 326K)

sorry, it's not very good, poor man's Wizardry 6

shut up and go back to diddling kids, wizfag

>Jagged Alliance 2

but it's more of a tactical game than rpg I'd say

Trails in the Sky is great

>been looking for a good turn based rpg
>this thread shows up
wow look at that, Yea Forums being useful how bizzare

Divinity OS
Underrail
Age of Decadence

Last Dream, not bad for something out of RPGmaker. FF1 with two more classes, a skill system, and assignable stats.
store.steampowered.com/app/266230/Last_Dream/

can someone give me the rundown on old JRPGs on steam, specifically ones by Square.

I wanna know which are decent ports and which are irredeemable mobile port trash

Anything that isn't:
>Chrono Trigger
>FFV
>FFVI
Is fine.

>The original Dragon Age
man that game was stupidly soulful
>nice graphics
>dark fantasy
>the second I found out that I can romance morrigan I literally spent the second the enterd my party just talking with her
>nice story line
>you hear stuff about some ancient something and suddenly you find it
>characters act on how you decide

How was it possible to honestly fucking blew this. I understand that 2 was rushed because money. But what about 3 ? Why was 3 such a pile of shit. I couldn´t play that shit after the first mission honestly.
>everything is messy
>game feels like some stupid craft bullshit game, everything glows
>you just aimlessly walk around and suddenly you find some thieves or whatever
>the only fucking hetero guy option were literally a not party member
>the only female party member you could fuck was lesbian and looked like a goblin

AMAZING, thank you very much bioware.

As says, pretty much just these. I'm not sure about Secret of Mana remake but it's probably fine.

which is the best final fantasy on steam if I've never played the series before?

Chrono Trigger has been fixed. I played through the entire game and it's fine. Most of the mobile shit has been patched out.

depends, I would just play from 1 to 15, but if you want to experience final fantasy I would play from 7 to 10, those 4 games are pretty varied stories with similar gameplay but enough differences to still be fresh

Final fantasy 4-5-6 are still worth a playthrough, but the combat is more classic and the graphics are pure pixel, so pick your poison

I think FFIX is the best starting point.

>Pillars of Eternity 2 just got a turn-based combat update. It's one of the better DnD derivatives out there.

>Pillars 2
>DnD derivative
The lead designer literally spend years talking about how much he dislikes D&D. It has very little resemblance except superficial stuff (e.g. class names).

>but it's more of a tactical game than rpg I'd say

>freely explorable open-wold with towns and npcs and side quests
>party members with personality
>characters have stats and skills that increase as they gain xp

How is it not an RPG?

Attached: 1557359713836.png (225x225, 50K)

me too, the story feels very classic, it's not that hard or complicated and has a pretty good story and good FF elements, however, the loading times and combat pace are fucking terrible

give me a comfy turn based rpg with a nice story and characters on steam, lads

Attached: Dua-k_ZWwAY5pZK[1].jpg (1050x525, 163K)

DQ11 pretty much the only last years goty. Last Remnant if you arent brainlet. Obvious FF, most are on steam. Valkyria Chronicles is great. And Original Sin 2 if you want western stuffs.
>Pillars of Eternity 2
pillars turn-based is legit garbage.

>D:OS2
>only as good as D:OS1
>not better
What the FUCK

Too busy working to afford this game OP

is Last Remnant only for people who are really into JRPG battle systems, or is it enjoyable for the story, setting etc?

Easy. Men of War.

It has one of the best combat system i have ever seen. But it extreme player unfriendly.

>no emulated games
Fuck that. Download citra or Desmume and play DeSu2. You wont regret it

It's a SaGa game, so it's mostly for people who are into mechanics.
That said, it has some good narrative and lore, but like all SaGa games it's very, very hidden, in fact 90% of the entire lore and worldbuilding is completely optional, the main quest won't give you anything.
It has some pretty good characters and some really great stories here and there, like the rest of the series, people like Zolean, Caedmon, Pagus and his bros Sibal and Maddox, the lore behind the Remnants, the First Emperor etc., but as I said, it's all optional stuff that will require you to not only do optional quests but also puts many pieces of the puzzle together on your own, especially when it comes to everything regarding the first emperor.

Don't you have turbo mode on the vita?

>ultima 7
>turn based

>turn based

Attached: 1545045930020.jpg (510x476, 26K)

>ctrl+f
>no evenicle

I'm disappointed.

Attached: 1529074107166.jpg (1000x500, 204K)

If it ain't turn based it ain't an RPG

Attached: 1539089493251.jpg (449x604, 70K)

obviously it'd be bookworm adventures 1 and 2

Attached: It's in a book.png (300x356, 82K)

The first rpg was rtwp, nigger

>60$ for a mobile shit game
OH NONONO

it's more of a tactical game than rpg

this
the Heroes of Might and Magic series and obviously divinity original sin

This

>pillars turn-based is legit garbage
Is it? I just saw it in the news and haven't played it yet.

which one is that

Not him, but D:OS 2 is way too easier to me. Lone Wolf breaks the game, armor system is stupid(hybrid damage characters/parties succ). Combat is more streamlined, which is good or bad depending on your view. Also while few tracks are excellent, Original Sin 1 has much better ost imo. D:OS2 is much more cheese-able thanks to the combat system.
Also most choices in Arx doesn't matter. Even if you pump the city full of deathfog
In the other hand, character creation is much better and combat can be lotsa faster compared to D:OS1. Also chapter based story can be more clearer, tho Nameless Island sucks.
Have you done no-sin run?

>most choices in Arx doesn't matter
Most of your choices in D:OS don't matter in general, D:OS is even guiltier of that, which makes me really, really salty.

How's Mary Skelter Nightmare?

are there any WRPGs that aren't so long?

I'd like one I could actually finish in less than 50 hours without rushing.

Baldurs gate was the 1st, any answer other than mine is wrong

is this game any good? I don't really like the visuals but i may be interested anyway if it's fun to play

I haven't played it myself, but I believe the Steam release fixes the speed issues of the PS1 original. Those battle transitions, man.

Mars War Logs, The Technomancer

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME

Wait for a sale.

>Last Remnant is a SaGa game
Wtf i love last remnant now?!!

Underrail

The ost is what really drew me into buying it but it was repetitive and not well-paced at all... no actual interactions between party members that felt like actual bonding.

The ost and the art direction were fantastic though and i can understand some liked this game.

Surprisingly good

I still don't understand how people are surprised by this after 10 years.
The core battle system is the same, you have the same techs, most of the same magic, the character growth follows the same philosophy, it's based on RS3's commander mode and pretty much all the Remnants are named after iconic items in the series, there's even blatant cameos like the seven being a reference to the Seven Heroes.
Sure, it's a lot more linear unlike the rest of the series, and it doesn't have multiple MCs (although it was planned to, outside of the fact that it was originally meant to SaGa Frontier 3), but it's a SaGa game minus the lightbulbs.
Hell it even straight up resuses the same exact map system from the first Frontier.

Attached: 1558118569873.png (596x558, 465K)

how do I get into Wizardry, lads?

Infinity engine actually uses concurrently-executed turns, speed defines who attacks first in every turn but not how often one attacks etc.

Do you have a least an option to speed up the normal battles?
I'm addicted to this shit since Stranger of sword city had that feature.

I just think in D:OS2 it's much worse, as the game tries to be "your choices matter", but in the end its almost like ME3 three endings.
At least D:OS1 had one clear story for the MC's.
I just hate how good the 1st and 2nd chapter is in D:OS2. Third is boring and fourth has some nice puzzles and story moments, but with no pay-offs. Even in ending most re-caps and epilogue are about 2nd chapters unless you play Origin characters.

Steel > Sky

Attached: 365984-the-legend-of-heroes-trails-of-cold-steel-playstation-3-front-cover1.jpg (640x640, 107K)

good half of passives in the tree are virtually useless, mainly all attack speed and attack recovery time due to initiative formula conversion. Game is pure slog with trivialized bosses and retardedly long battles. Very few skills to work with so you will end up auto attacking most of the time. I did full potd run in turn-based before 5.0 release and shit just boring to the brim.

Is it good? Want to grab it on steam right now.

incline!

I hope that you are not implying people should skip Trails in the Sky and Crossbell.

Attached: Tio.jpg (480x640, 38K)

Not at all. Just that Steel is the better series.

so it's not that good?

>buying a Switch
lmao

Yeah, I agree with you on that.
Honestly, they should have made Act 2 focus exclusively on the sourcerer masters and make Bloodmoon island and the Blackpits parts of Act 3 since there's fuck all to do in there to begin with.
I can deal with the shitty combat, I can deal with the game having no real choices to speak of and being mostly flavour text, I can deal with murderhobo bullshit, I can deal with Act 4 being that small, but the jump in quality from Act 2 to Act 3 really ruins the game, and then you expect Act 4 to kind of leave you with a good flavour in your mouth once you finish the game, but it never does.

This is without considering just how disjointed act 3 is from the rest of the game, it feels like a filler act that leaves a lot of the stuff from act 2 like Tarquin forging Anathema, the possessed little kid, or pretty much all personal quests from the main characters unresolved just to push some nonconsequential bullshit that feels there just to give you a nudge about the whole cult of the one being true shit after all, and this is without mentioning how again, even there it leaves tons of stuff in that own questline unresolved, like that dude in Fort Joy saying he'd keep a close eye on you...and then he just disappears forever the moment you get out of Fort Joy, what the fuck?

Attached: 1510307277092.png (480x380, 264K)

That's fine, I respect your opinion.

Attached: Anelace 2.png (870x489, 578K)

yeah you can hold a button and it speeds up

Evenicle 2 when

Never forget Fane's lil friend that comes literally just before final boss to be like "Yo, you are supposed to have a conflict here. Pls have a lil think over this."
Also the game doesn't really punish you for being a murderous psyco. And like nothing you do in Fort Joy matters to the story. Just kill everyone and thing lmao.
Me and my sis completely broke the game. Its good but it could be better. Aaaaaaaaa
Why can't act1&2 be same but act 1 having real decisions and consequencesWhat happened to the Dragon I free'd? Why did all camp people have to die instantly?. Then add some good shit to act 3 and let me choose if I want my God to live. Then make act 4 decisions matter and have more stuff with races in general.
Maybe I demand too much.

Shadowrun Dragonfall is a modern masterpiece and needs to be played by everyone

The combat mechanics seem very tacked on in that game. It's like a budget nu-com really
The story is alright though, but i really wish they'd have invested into deeper combat.

its ok game but not even near masterpiece.

Atelier Arland DX

I beat her first game and stopped when I looked it up and the story continued to be 100% predictable safe garbage.

I was enjoying it but hearing that was really a huge dealbreaker for me, I couldn't stand all of the retarded things EVERYONE was doing ALL THE TIME that had no consequences whatsoever.

Easily Divinity Original Sin 1/2

今よ ;)

Most of the Wizardry games are intensely dated, and not in a good way for most people. Unless you really, really want to play Wizardry specifically, avoid the earlier games in favor of newer ones or derivatives.

For example, the Japanese Wizardry games, Wizardry 8, Wizardry-clones like Elminage, etc, if you want to stay old-ish. For newer games, its just all the games on handhelds and PC.

how the fuck is a fucking board game an RPG

Has anyone played Thronebreaker? Is it any good?

Wise man. The entirety of Cold Steel 4 makes the entire saga pointless to have even played in the first place.

The only good modern turn based RPG is Persona 5 and that is not on PC.

>The entirety of Cold Steel 4 makes the entire saga pointless to have even played in the first place.
What happens? I kind of want an excuse to just not play TitS1 even though its been sitting my library for like 6 months

The Last Remnant.
Oh wait....

>From the makers of The Legend of Grimrock
>Developers changed their name to something new and cheesy losing all connection to Legend of Grimrock
Why do this?

Battle Chasers

Same way Dokapon Kingdom is I guess.

I liked Hong Kong more

Considering they want $85 for it I'll wait til it's at least 50% off.
