Quick tip. If your hand looks good and can move fast, discard those useless honor tiles. Don't give a fuck when some nyaggers call them. You held on to those tiles too long and wasted good middle tiles in the process.

Might as well test it, could easily convert to mixed outside or all terminals/honors if you get impatient

You shouldn't worry too much about copper, at least until gold or jade room and even then you have to play a lot of games to waste them. With even right now you can get even more copper so it should be fine to play even jade non stop. Just don't buy the spheres in event shop, you'll get them from games eventually.

4 way waits are sexy but you also have to look at the total number of tiles. There can be more than that for a 4 way wait, like 11 tiles with few or no discards, as much as 20ish tiles with some crazy waits and not discarded tiles. Those 11 tile, 4 way waits are fucking beautiful when you can get them.
Then you go for chanta, honitsu, chinitsu and enjoy all those middle tiles or suits you don't want for 12 turns while the other players all reached tenpai.

Basically, there's also non-yaku tiles that go into scoring (and easy example is dora and red 5s) which after you have a yaku will add to your score as well. And depending on certain things you also get additional points (being dealer, dealer repeats, previous riichis, fu)

as a beginner, just focus on th yaku though, you only need 1 to decalre a hand though

quads count as a triple after you kan them
the exceptions are chitoitsu which is 7 pairs and kokushi musou which is 1 of each of the terminals and honour + 1 duplicate of any of them

honestly the 7pairs and kokushi musou are probably too complicated / hard to get for you to worry about right now
focus on first just completing your hand with sets of 3 and pair
e.g. you can have 111 234 567 3xWind 88
theres 4 sets of 3 groups (sequences or triples) + 1 pair so its a finished hand
but you cant win until you also have a yaku (from the picture)
an example of a yaku this could have is yakuhai if the triple wind is the same as your seat or the table wind
another is riichi which you can call when you are waiting for your last tile if your hand is completely closed (you didn't chi or pon anything)

In a not entirely correct explanation:

Yaku = Multiplier
Furiten = Broken Hand

Your hand needs at least one multiplier(yaku) to be considered a valid hand to win. If your hand has no multipler(yaku), then even if you draw a tile that "completes" your hand(4 sequence/triplets + 1 pair), you can't declare a win off that hand.

If you have a broken hand(furiten), it means you have discarded a tile that you could have completed your current hand to declare a win. You can't steal(ron) tiles to win with your current hand.
