furniture has more interactivity, like board games, comfy sofa positions, washing machines/clothes lines that actually have a storage for clothes which actually get cleaned, kitchen furniture actually lets you cook things, you can actually get in a bath/shower, games console furniture opens retro minigames like tetris/pong, also ping pong tables or that table football thing with the rows of swinging players that kick the ball... you know...
also the AI should be improved so much that it's actually enjoyable to have a villager in your house. They don't just pace around randomly, they'll actually sit down with you and watch TV with you, or serve as an AI opponent/ally in those minigames I listed above.
my biggest hope is that they don't lose focus of what animal crossing is supposed to be about, slow life in a rural village with a child-like carefree feel to it

As iconic as the villager look is I'd like to be able to have an animal villager just to fit in more and to have more customization options beyond clothing available.
Aside from that, zoning, choice of expansion layouts when you make your house bigger, higher villager count.
