Back when I was a forum junky, you'd get noobs who would ask a stupid question in a dead thread from 8 years ago. Now this is amusing and harmless on it's own. But when it keeps happening regularly it would make browsing the new threads irritating, so it was discouraged. Plus it gives powertripping mods an excuse to ban someone with little backlash because everyone hated these noob bumpers.

So forums lose the only advantage they have over a board like this, which is persistent threads where information can be compiled over long intervals of time.

I used to theorycraft how do make that happen, they need sky access in front of the door though last I checked, so had to have holes going all the way down. Doable, but not perfect.

Several factors. Was the original thread worth bumping? If it's just a question without an answer, then reviving the thread doesn't add anything to your question. Shifting through a ton of old junk just to get to your question doesn't help, just make a new thread and maybe link to the old one if 'this was asked before and never answered' is really that important.

Did the situation change in the years inbetween? I've seen plenty of people making fun of bug reports and feature requests from years ago, noting the post's reporting something that was already fixed or already exists. ie. Bug report made in '06, fixed in '07, clever person bumps thread and makes fun of OP in '11. Do these people have no concept of how time works?

If the necro doesn't fall in one of these categories, chances are it's fine.

most of the time when I get a village spawn they're half buried in gravel or sticking out the side of cliffs
ended up just switching to Millenaire and using those instead, at least they flatten the fucking land first when they generate/build their buildings
