I do though, I love Fire Emblem. One of the few things making me consider a Switch but I'm having high hopes for E3. Otherwise there's less than 5 games on it I'm interested in out now and upcoming only maybe 3 or 4, including this FE.

As a long time fan of the series who loved Awakening and hated Fates, I hate pretty much every last aesthetic choice made in this new iteration. The story also seems boring and the new gameplay systems might wind up being total dog shit like My Castle in Fates.

Graphically worse than the musou games despite being a less intensive type of game.
Artist is trash. Art is below the level of many standard commission artists and a lot looks incomplete for a professional job, especially when you compare to Awakening, Fates and Echoes.
FE gameplay sucking anyway because it has never addressed several fundamental flaws coming that unfortunately comes from features and mechanics that make it unique from other turn based strategy RPGs.

I'm convinced at this point that the reason the special edition is selling out consistently is simply because people want the steelbook. The regular cover art is so butt ugly that nobody wants to have to use the actual box.

The game is actually grotesque and it may be the only game I've ever described as such. I'm not a graphics whore and I don't expect it to have amazing triple AAA graphics. But this game is actually fucking hideous in every conceivable way. IS was working on the 3DS for so long they apparently forgot what anti-aliasing is. The animations are comically shitty. Full of frame drops, pop-in, and criticals that just involve the character running at the enemy with no special animation and the enemy just getting knocked into the air like bowling pins. The mook soldiers are unpolished unfinished copy/pasted models. Then there's the artist who clearly can't draw medieval fantasy clothing or even basic armor to save their lives and can only draw modern /fa/ pop clothing. And to be fair, I don't blame the artist for this. I blame IS for picking them as the main character designer for a fucking Fire Emblem game. Everything about the game is offensive to my eyes.

some early screens made it appear the weight system is back because edgelord has 0 evade at lv1 when wielding an axe.
If the weight system follows tellius rules no big deal but if it follows gba rules Edgelord is gonna horde all your body rings/ other Con boosting items so she can actually use axes.
We havent actually seen a single characters base statspread yet so hopefully they removed weight but if they havent every female character is gonna suck shit at using axes.

The GC and Wii games were my introduction to the series and i really liked them. A few years later and awakening came out - I was super hyped for that game but ultimately found it to be rather boring and simple. I didnt even finish it

Awakening and onwards are very different games which completely different design focuses and a lot of people don't like them for this reason so I would play some of the older ones if I were you

Its necessary or the battle system becomes a matter of raw attack/defense with little depth beyond weapon triangle.

The idea is you have fast units with moderate/low attack that can defeat middle-speed units with their double, but lose to slower enemies that have high Def.

The main reason is my experience with Fates. I'm never trusting IS again after that disappointment. I'm waiting until the game comes out and I know just how bad the story is or if there are any irritating characters forced on the MC to decide if it's worth getting. It sure doesn't look worth getting right now.

They said in an interview that finding artists to make enough official art for FE is hard and that they were even surprised Kozaki accepted working with them again for Fates (even though they didn't have any other artist in mind at the time). So, it's not surprising he took some kind of shortcut like no full art for all characters, just profile pics - and don't forget Fates had a much larger cast than Awakening.

So far we only have official art for the 3 lords though. I won't be surprised if this is Fates all over again (they're probably hiding some kind of twist that expands the cast, because right now it's very small).

To be fair, Fates was a failed experiment with outsourced writing. Not only the original plot, even the final script was penned by people from two other companies too. They immediately gave up on that for the DLC (aside from Revelation).

I don't even get the meme, Awakening had more good supports than bad ones. For all the shit Tharja gets, all her supports are top tier, as well as Gregor's. The only ones I'd call straight up bad are pretty much all of Cordelia's, Sumia and Chrom, some of Robin's supports are also pretty average.

All three games had a handful of not bad supports, but the rest were generally terrible.
In theory, if you have less Supports to write, then you should be able to focus on making them good, but since even that did not help IS at all in Echoes, I have zero trust that they'll pull it off.

But I do. Graphics and artwork aside everything else looks pretty neat so far. Only really worried about the story and the maps but I managed Fates pretty well so this should be fine.

Pies. For some reason, the localisation was fucking obsessed with pies. Literally any mention of food in the Japanese version got replaced with a pie. Sumia was cooking Chrom lunch in the Japanese version. Gaius making sweets got turned into pies. Literally everything became pies in like 5 separate supports.

Because all of those things you mentioned still fit the "medieval fantasy" setting.
This attire and many others do not.
They're doing a piss poor job of selling a cohesive and believable world.

I'm thinking old dude "nemesis" was byleth's ancestor fighting against a force using the "crests" for evil ergo ruling the world through the nobility (Churchmilfs ancestor) and sothis was the backer of byleths ancestor that could use the "crests" for good.

I really see this story turning into a hunt byleth and edelgard for speaking up against the power of the church over these crests. Since edelgard already states that the crests are malicious in the trailer. Maybe you'll need to convince the other nobles. Kinda need to make edelgard's route the main one then though.

It is indeed, and the whole point I'm trying to make is that the art direction is terrible.
The designs don't follow a clear cut set of rules and they end up looking like the artist just pulled all her unused designs from different otome games and anime, gave them to IS and they said "okay these are perfect, thank you" without sending feedback on what the characters should look like.
It just screams lazy.

I was never a fan of super customization in FE, I kinda like being made to work with what I was given with rather than building a bunch of units to suit each individual need. It's a stupid reason, but I like going from chapter to chapter rather than spending a lot of time building the army.

But I want it. The art is like my one and only problem with the game. I even like the designs, and only dislike the art and 3D models themselves. Everything else is sounding and looking really promising.
It looks like it'll have more customization than any Fire Emblem preceding it.
It has battalion/commander influences like that of Langrisser.
It has downtime and event scheduling like that of raising/management sims like Princess Maker.
Movement and buff/debuff related skills like those from Fire Emblem Heroes, a really good addition to bring over to mainline Fire Emblem.
The effects of map tiles are being boosted, and more unique tiles are also being brought back or invented for the game which speaks promise for map complexity.
The idea of the Crests actually sounds interesting with how similar it sounds to the brands and blood of Genealogy.

Then last of all the differences between the various houses, and how it can complement the heightened customization and lore elements presented in the game, which are very likely to give each house a distinct flavour. Something that if true could mean wonders for the re-playability of the game.
Yeah fuck the art. I agree. But the art does not destroy the promise of anything I listed above. Or anything else of promise.
