An FPS you can play with two sticks??? It's crazy man!!!
Wait, what
An FPS you can play with two sticks??? It's crazy man!!!
Wait, what
He’s not wrong. Just because it became industry standard doesn’t mean it isn’t shit.
faggot alert
>PSX
It was called the PlayStation (PS)
We didn't keep calling the GameCube "Dolphin" or Wii "Revolution"
Based. They understood shooters could never work on a console.
Timesplitters is alright though...
back to /vr/
It's basically a ghetto WASD + mouselook setup and that already been about for years, no clue why he's screaming about it
Thet review is pure aged kino. Especially the end where he tells you to skip this shit and go all in on the upcoming Colonial Marines.
Not one person called it a PS you absolute underage faggot. It was ALWAYS PSX.
Fuck off zoomer, back then it was called PSX for many
Not him but he's fucking right, only Americucks who wanted everything to be EX-TREEEME XDD ever called it "PSX". Normal, functioning, above-average IQ human beings called it the Playstation until the PS2 came out, at which point it retroactively became PS1.
>fps can never work on a console
>unless it's a gamecube
Hahaha, lord have mercy on your retarded soul.
Fuck off zoomer, it was the Playstation and anyone being a cunt about it got a slap. When the PS2 came out it became the PS1
Timesplitters wasn't a gamcube exclusive though.
>Not him but he's fucking right
Didn't even finish reading your post. In any mag at the time it was always PSX.
>When the PS2 came out it became the PS1
The only part of your post that is even half right, it because PS1 when the PS One came out.
>only Americucks
Nope, i'm Italian and for us it was PSX
This is you.
Yeah, horrible. To this day I don't understand why they stuck with movement-left/aiming-right.
Yeah, it is. Thank God for gyro.
No? That's not what I was trying to say at all...
I name dropped timesplitters to show that I didn't mean it whole heartedly.
Console shooters can still work, even if I do prefer pc. and i played those games on ps2
The fuck is everyone arguing about in this thread
Timesplitters Future Perfect is the ultimate console shooter to me. Do they even make FPS with a console focus besides shitty Halo sequels?
playing fps with a controller is trash so he's not wrong
i'm european and everyone called it PSX
all the gaming magazines called it PSX
you're just underage so you wouldnt know
Based retard. Two sticks will always be inferior to keys and a mouse. Growing up on halo 1 and 2 on your xbox doesn’t change that.
Pee Ess Ecks
It is fucking horrible. Just because people got used to it doesn't mean it's not bad.
yeah people don't call it the pssssssssss either, it's a fucking abbreviation
What if there was some sort of device that you could move along a surface to control your aim.
I wonder why consoles still don't just allow you to use kb+mouse in any game, very few games does this.
I understand it can be a problem in multiplayer, but for singleplayer it would be nice. Consoles are pretty much just weaker PCs now anyway
I just want to play splatoon with a mouse, is that too much to ask.
I still have no idea how people can play FPS games with a controller.
It's so clunky and awkward that it immediately sucks any and all enjoyment out of it for me.
absolutely based and redpilled quote that still holds true to this day
>console FPS
like riding a bike without a chain
I play a lot of pc, but I 100% prefer the feel of a controller for shooters. I never use one on pc multiplayer due to the obvious disadvantage though
>all the gaming magazines called it PSX
UK here, PSX cropped up a couple of times in the first issues of the official mag but the only consistent term for ages was PlayStation. When we had had to differentiate it became the PS1
Not once have I heard someone call it PSX irl, and every cunt I knew was a snoyfaggot
I just don't understand how.
I like controllers for some games, but any time you ask me to aim a crosshair with one all my enjoyment immediately evaporates.
I just can't fathom why people would willingly subject themselves to this, even in single player casual scenarios.
I can't either. I tried to give it a try with Vanquish and for a while I kind of worked, but in one spot I was getting a bit frustrated and used the mouse for a moment and it just felt so much better I just gave up on the idea entirely.
Sticks + gyroscope works well enough as a substitute when I really can't or don't feel like using the mouse, and I'm fine with using sticks if there's not much aiming to do (like in action-adventure games such as Zelda or Darksiders), but I'm never playing a shooter with just the sticks.
For aiming it is shit, but for everything else it's perfectly fine.
It was always the playstation until the PS2 came around and even then it was PS1
PSX was the code name
Some magazines just didn't get the memo and clung onto it like retards.
Just like you are doing.
Why don't you go shit up a Nintendo NX thread or something.
It was actually more of a euro thing. Never heard "PSX" in America ever until I got internet.
Well we had PSM
Playstation magazine
wasn't there even a PSone nametag on the newer version of ps1?
I find a controller a generally simpler and more comfortable tool to use. As long as it doesn't disadvantage me, I can aim better than most if they're using a controller as well. Most console games have some auto aim added to them too, and lots of single player fps have auto aim added for controllers to make up for their shit tier aiming
Yes, the PS1 slim was dubbed the PSone
It was released the same year the PS2 was.
Hence the differentiation
I'm curious would gyro aiming fix this? What if you had left stick for movement
Right stick for looking around
And gyro for aiming?
>How to spot millennial trash
>more comfortable tool to use.
I guess that's where we disagree.
To me, playing an FPS with a controller feels like playing a precision platformer with your feet.
You can do it, maybe even git gud after a while.
But at no point during the experience does it feel comfortable or good.
>No refute
>Only insults
>Reactionimage.png
Splatoon 2 does it. Supposedly it's better.
If you're so committed to being factually wrong, then you only deserve scorn.
ITT user never actually played alien resurrection. The controls are horrific as it maps the axis different to what is the standard now. Alien resurrection's scheme is essentially that missing link between the digital controls the ps1 used and the defacto standard that was popularised on the ps2 with games like timesplitters. Alien resurrection is totally worth playhing but it is clunky ass fuck.
Gyro aiming shits all over stick but it's still not as good as mouse.
Gyro is miles better, since it's 1:1 actual movement and not just a fucking velocity. Aiming with a stick is worse than typing with a mouse.
I think you mean inverted axis on the right stick. That's usually an option you can switch in menus.
Because console games are designed with specific controller in mind and 99% of the players use it.
Also, mouse works fundamentally different from a stick. Stick has a central resting position, but mouse resting position changes when it stops moving. I remember one console port game on Steam, where you could use mouse to control the camera, but you had to constantly move it to prevent it from resetting to the zero position.
niggas should have played MDK2 on Dreamcast. You move with ABXY and control the camera with the analog stick.
wait, it was ever not played with two sticks?
not a zoomer here, i simply didn't play console fps til ps2..
the ORIGINAL playstation controller didn't have sticks.
then how do you play perfect dark?
also the game apparently is pretty good.
Because you don't have a keyboard on your couch
oh shit...what the fuck..there was something before dualshock? also the game came out in 2000...so what's up with the two sticks surprise? again how would you have played perfect dark? also wasn't doom ported to ps1?
even if there was a controller with dual sticks later for the playstation most games didn't use the second stick for much of anything, and usually used the left stick and dpad for movement.
with the jump to the ps2 is probably when developers started making games built with the 'left stick move right stick camera' mindset.
there was just a regular playstation controller with no analogs. then came dualanalogs that added analog sticks. after that was dualshock which added rumble mode.
I suppose, but I was thinking one of those smaller keyboards could work, or just a numpad device.
pair that with a bluetooth mouse and have it on a tray on your lap, or a couch master if you want to be fancy
It was usually just PS or playstation, until the PSone came out, then it was mainly called PSX
Wrong.
Then it was called the PS1
Rent. Fucking. Free
