I can't argue that!

not possible, it's not turn based

Exactly why it was better

but Yea Forums is pretty sure turn based games are the only ones that can be good

Maybe the faggots who hate anything made after 2004

I am. It's the worst entry in the Compilation. (For VII specifically. AC was the most destructive to the entire franchise.)

OP is delusional, escort him to the infirmary.

>It's the worst entry in the Compilation.
Big turd blocks your path.

If you have shit taste, sure

which sounds like 90% of the people complaining about VII: Remake

FF7 didn't interrupted me with pointless minigames that it spends two minutes explaining every 30 minutes of gameplay. Also why the fuck did 7:CC have no cutscene skip option when it had NG+?

I had the hardest time trying to comprehend what the fuck was going on in that game plot-wise.

So what could they even do with the FF7 compilation next? Any cliffhangers?

Attached: D4LCPBHXsAET_24.jpg (464x538, 35K)

I little just noticed this now but
>AC- Advent Children
>BC- Before Crisis
>CC- Crisis Core
>DC- Dirge of Cerebus

What will EC stand for?

It also sounds like half of the boomers on Yea Forums. Half the boomers are alright, the other half just does nothing but shit on any modern game.
Those people should move to >>>/vr

>Any cliffhangers?
Yep, Genesis flying away with Angeal's corpse for no reason.
There's never been a conclusion to that storyline, unless they weave Genesis into the VII Remake.

Probably pretend it never happened. Though I'm still salty over the fact they planned to continue story after AC and DD with faggot played by Gackt as a villain and didn't stick to it. Sure, FFVII-2 could theoretically have been a laughing stock and alienate the fanbase worse than X-2 or XIII, but fuck if it wouldn't been amusing.

Eternal Cashflow.

There will be no EC, the compilation thing didn't payoff as well as they'd hoped.
Also I think they just made D(o)C, then BC and realized they sort of had a pattern and named AC and CC accordingly.

You're just wrong. Fact is none of the full GAMES in the compilation are even approaching bad. They're all legit great games. The worst one is the phone game.

>Angeal
Dont you mean Weiss

>You're just wrong. Fact is none of the full GAMES in the compilation
CC and Dirge are legit dogshit.

I don't like it's gayass slot machine system.

No, I mean Angeal.
LoveLess fuck.

The compilation is going to control

Angeal is dead by the time DoC happens. Genesis takes away Weiss.

Not that user, but nah. CC is a pretty good action-RPG for it's time and platform. I've replayed it on PS3 few years ago and it still holds. Granted, it's rather grindy, extra mission are samey and targeted for short bursts of playing cause of portability schtick and the final part in catacombs sucks, but overall it's a very enjoyable linear romp with nice visuals, soundtrack and gameplay. As for the Dirge, it played rather well for a Japanese shooter. I mean, I've enjoyed Gungrave games back in the day, and the improved Western release of DoC was pretty similiar. It was dumb and shallow, yet kinda fun and campy. I just can't call it a complete dogshit.

user we still don't know if they scrapped it or not. FF7R could literally exist for them to bring back interest for themselves to properly close off the compilations for good

ah right, I misunderstood.
But that plotline is still not resolved.

>The worst one is the phone game.
But BC has the best story.

Not better as a game, but somehow it hit me in the feels far more harder than original ever did. That breaking gameplay at the end, that music, that everything. Fuck, I've cried. Never have a game had a same effect on me ever since.

Never played it but I can easily see it being leaps and bounds ahead of the other spinoffs. Its story largely deals with stuff introduced in the original game but not expanded on (SOLDIER, Zack, Wutai, etc)

I'm guessing FF7R will have some secret ending that teases more on Genesis and Weiss. I still think SE is just using the remake as a way to get an eventual sequence out which could properly close off this whole compilation shit for good.

Neither of them had the same sociopathic charm as Seph, but that’s never stopped Square before either

Dirge is a wondeful game, if you play it with mouse (which is possible even on PS2 hardware). It is a great game and only dumb faggots don't like it. It's just like MGRR, I don't get people get so fucking butthurt about muh edge.

>unless they weave Genesis into the VII Remake.
Genesis should be sleeping during FF7 so he shouldn't be able to show up. I'm experiencing allusions and references to his existence though.

Yeah, maybe. But knowing current trends, they'll probably make the Remake an only "Canon" title to base other derivatives from, ignoring everything that was before them. Would be nice to have CC and DC be remade, though. Or at least having the same treatment Kingdom Hearts spin-off titles in HD collections had.

Crisis Core was the moment I gave up on Square Enix. They'd already done some dumb shit leading up to it, but they killed one of their biggest games.

I wouldn't be surprised if Genesis shows up in the remake desu.

Well yeah neither baddies are on Sephiroth's level at all. But SE doesn't care.

Besides they'll probably find some way to wiggle in Sephiroth in an theortical sequel. If they plan to close off the whole FF7 shit, then they're no way they won't bring bakugou Sephiorth one last time.

This remake will be the Hobbit trilogy of gaming if they try that

That cringe shit is nowhere near as good as ff7. The battle system is ok but the gay roulette wheel was dumb as fuck.

You've just motivated me to go and replay it. I wonder if PS2 emulator on PS3 supports the mouse. At least it supported 4 controllers, unlike the emulator on PS4. Aw, well, controller is fine too. Didn't have a problem playing it back in the day.

>I don't get people get so fucking butthurt about muh edge.
Besides the abysmal story, my main gripe is with how clunky the gameplay felt.

I played Crisis Core last year and I was so disappointed. Holy fucking shit, what an awful game. Boring gameplay, no content, unceasing fanfic-tier writing. I was embarrassed to play it. I should have known better.

Who's right?
youtu.be/mw0aLsw515k
Or
youtu.be/Ek_v3BX0RPc

Nomura said last year they were thinking of doing something with the compilation titles to accompany the remake so who knows.

It wouldn't be like that if they'll leave just a smallest of hints here and there. Like, some scientists' notes in Shinra labs or something. Maybe inderect mention of Angeal by Zack's relatives in his home village.

He should still be asleep but if there's a secret ending in the game, he'll probably appear there.

At best I'm honestly just expecting references to him.

This is Square though

If they just leave references, then it's really not that bad. Science notes about a mysterious SOLDIER bodies Sephiroth and other shit.

Also, if in the remake you can’t go back and tell them what happened to Zack (and about Aeris presumably) I will be mad. Biggest oversight in main game

*besides Sephiroth*
Damn autocorrect

Bundling a HD update to Crisis Core with Advent Children would be a pretty easy for them and would sell great. Not sure how they'd approach Dirge of Cerberus or Before Crisis- maybe they could do a mini CG movie summing up before crisis.

Nah, but it's the only spinoff that's tolerable so I'll take it. On steam pls

>That cringe shit is nowhere near as good as ff7
You act like FF7 was a work of art. Nostalgia is one hell of a drug.

>That fucking retarded Genesis/Angeal story
Aside from that its a great game. But holy fuck is that shit so fucking absolute trash. Not even close to FF7 original though

Attached: 1552250808212.jpg (200x315, 11K)

Are Final Fantasy games a textbook example of wasted potential? The worlds are interesting, both visually and lore wise. The music is kino. The story is like something that was born from the dev's LSD trip, they just put whatever they saw in their visions and dumped it in the game's plot. The characters are from your poor man's shōnen anime.

Attached: eb4bcf_6741742.jpg (2000x1952, 735K)

Welp, who knows what they'll do and how much they'll fuck up? Honestly, after all that happened with FF as a franchise I get a Russian roulette vibe from the FFVII Remake. I know that sooner or later they'll fuck up. Don't know when, but it'll happen. And it will make autismo armies furious and hungry for blood. Eh, at least it'll be entertaining. Still hope Nomura's gonna save the franchise, though.

I did not play 7 until a few years ago and I think it’s pretty damn good. Not perfect but the storytelling is way beyond what square puts out today

It is a work of art, any game is. But some are more profound than others.

Attached: sway.gif (230x206, 1.95M)

Why does it matter? Like really.

I think jrpgs are a genre that dont adapt well to new technology and new expectations on games. Like platformers going from the defining genre to relatively niche unless you’re Mario

They could just do a collection for all four of those titles in one bundle to be perfectly honest.

Maybe have an ultimate edition to go with the remake even.

Because it would be easy, and disc 2 is a little light as it is.

And it seems like something Cloud would do after returning to the Mansion and seeing the vats. They have this sidequest which lacks closure imo

Because FF7's story was superb.

Biggest problems with CC is for one, the story and how it completly misses the point of what FF7 was trying to convey, as well as putting Genesis on story sequences from FF7 where he had no business being there, Zack being some kind of deus ex machina where he is somehow involved in major characters decisions was dumb as fuck, as well as those "homages" to og FF7 that makes those moments in the story down, and let not forget that fucking ending, the moment Zack defeated Genesis, should have been the moment where character perspective and character control should have been passed to cloud, where we see what happens to zack and his ultimate death, not that bullshit ending of muh hero moment, with final speach bullshit and ascending to heaven, tabata was a fucking dumbass with those story decisions

And that stupid roulette shit during combat, fucking hell

And also it would be like that band which had ridiculous room service requirements when booked in a venue just to make sure the contract was read.

It would show Square at least played and thought about the original

user FF7's story was a mess. Not as bad as FF8's trainwreck but it was still a mess. But I agree it's better than anything SE shits out now but lets not pretend FF7 had an amazing story.

Knowing Square Enix it'd be divided into two. The first would have Crisis Core and Advent Children, and the second would have Dirge of Cerberus and a new CG movie for Before Crisis. KH got split up and only had three titles per entry, no way they'd include a feature length movie alongside two full games and a new work pretty much from the ground up. They couldn't just release Before Crisis as is. Maybe the new shit in BC would be enough to move copies of DOC since it wouldn't sell well on its own.

It’s really not a mess, I do not see that at all.

I guess. Either way they will probably do something like this to lead up to the remake or something. Atleast the later parts of the remake.

But I'm wondering if they'll throw in the original game and Last Order.

>That breaking gameplay at the end, that music, that everything. Fuck, I've cried. Never have a game had a same effect on me ever since.
Then you're an impressionable faggot. CC's rendition of Zack's death goes completely against what the scene in VII ever stood for.

You're on the nostalgia pill.

>CC's rendition of Zack's death goes completely against what the scene in VII ever stood for.
You mean when he just got shot down by like three scrubs? A 1st Class SOLDIER being beaten that easily is acceptable to you?

I do not have nostalgia for it because I didn’t play it as a kid. If anything playing it as a kid would make you think its a mess

Just emulate it user

I think Cloud’s “I wont forget” line is what they mean

Oh yeah, I forgot about Last Order. That'd definitely be included. I can see two $50 games either way, they'd be able to justify the price/content ratio for most consumers and they get $40 more per person with two lots of discussions/hype and double the shelf space in stores.

Pretty much, the only thing similar to his og death scene was cloud picking up the buster sword, realising zacks dead and screaming, other than that, it a shitty hollywood tier death scene, that was something they wanted to avoid doing in og FF7, where they wanted to present a realistic depiction of a characters death

Well, yeah, I was 16, after all. Gee, it's been so long since then.
But anyway, the heroic death and all that jazz can be accepted as Zack's point of view, following the bravado till the end. It's obvious Cloud would see these events differently. Both of these points of view work great in contexts of their own stories.

Good save I gotta say

Last Order would be great if they'll remaster it for Blu-Ray. I remember back in 2008-2009 it'd been really difficult to find a decent rip off it without any spic hardsubs.

That's reasonable, I can get behind that.
I was 16 too, where does the time go?

And do you by any chance remember what lesds to his death, that whole acene his both him and cloud getting in a situation where they didnt have a choice but stay their ground and fight, zack still fights shinra soldiers but offscreen, probably not the shitty amounts from CC, but still fights them, another point is cloud is there, instead of being hidden, and zack gets shot in a moment where hes checking up on cloud thinking their in a moment of safety, and those grunts thinking cloud is a nonissue and hes gonna die alone anyway, the shit in CC where he fights a literal army, until he cant fight anymore is fucking stupid

There's a beauty to how it portraits the frailty of life. How even for all that power and dreams all it takes is to get unlucky once and it's over.
It sets the tone very well, in my opinion.

>But holy fuck is that shit so fucking absolute trash. Not even close to FF7 original though

But it's the same clone thing that goes on through most of FF7?

CC's biggest issue narratively was too little time forging its own self-contained narrative for Zack and his associates and too much time trying to reference or remind you of FFVII with a lot of Zack's early stuff EVEN THOUGH the game inevitably retreads some of the FFVII content anyway.

Mentor Angeal was OK until he became a one winged monster and started muttering about the fate of monsters only to just shrug about all that later and look over Zack as a dog thing, which I felt was mostly just to force Angeal into a very bizarre reference to Zack and Cloud's relation, right down to the ghost wolf thing Cloud imagines Zack as in AC.

Genesis being a weird inversion of Sephiroth that Sephiroth and Zack have to hunt down gives context and direction, though unneeded, to Sephiroth's own disillusion. It's no longer just about him and his supposed past, it's his present circle that SHINRA is making him destroy.
But Genesis' of "Sephirothisms" are somehow more absurd than the original. When he starts rambling about the gift of the goddess, concepts from a fictional work in-universe, only for the Gift (anti-Meteor?) and the Goddess (anti-JENOVA) to be either a weird shared hallucination or inexplicably real that's when we hit levels of WAT that should not even be possible.

Lazard as a Reverse Rufus wasn't bad at first, a welcome subversion of the charming authority figure actually being well intentioned and not a front, but he too folds into the copies nonsense and even without that I feel he was not well fleshed out or utilized. They probably could have folded him and Angeal.

I'm not even going to go over NotHojo. His scenes almost feel like a punishment for being foolish enough to bother following the plot instead of the character arcs.

Also Zack should have dated Cissnei and the thing with Aerith should have been revealed as one sided and misunderstood.
Zack and Aerith's thing was a drawn out reference, Cissnei actually felt involved and contributing.

You are now aware that "Weiss" means both "white" in modern German, but has roots that go back to "knowledge" or "wisdom," which both had distinct meanings in old German. The former implied direct knowledge because of memorization, while the latter meant something closer to "Yeah, I can guess based on past experience."

If Genesis is the past, Weiss would be the future. Make of that what you will.

>If Genesis is the past, Weiss would be the future.
But Genesis is also the future.

>doesn't know his Biblical references

For shame. Genesis is the beginning. The implications of killing wisdom and knowledge with a beginning would make for an interesting story, though.

See you in 2020.

>When he starts rambling about the gift of the goddess, concepts from a fictional work in-universe

It's established that Loveless is a play based on a real legend. You find segments of the play written on ancient stone tablets and shit. The Goddess, a personification of the Lifestream, represents the will of the planet itself.

Genesis is initially interested in the legend because he became a SOLDIER to protect the planet, and thinks deciphering the cryptic play will tell him how. Finding out the Shinra experiment will kill him, he then puts his hopes on the "gift" (the planet's blessing) to save him. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this.

So you want Zack to die like a bitch despite his class.

>Also Zack should have dated Cissnei and the thing with Aerith should have been revealed as one sided and misunderstood.
>Zack and Aerith's thing was a drawn out reference, Cissnei actually felt involved and contributing
I thought I was the only one who felt he made a better pair with Cissnei.

>where he fights a literal army, until he cant fight anymore is fucking stupid

Fucking why? Him dying because of plain old carelessness is not only ridiculous, it's a disgrace

Zack was a well written character, and I quite liked Angeal too, but everything else sucked. Most of the things they added ended up retconning/fucking up elements of the original which is the worst thing a prequel can do. It's like star wars eps 1-3. It's a shame so many people have only played crisis core without FF7 too.

Because it fits my perfect theme from FF7.

FF7 doesn't do jackshit for Zack. Stop sucking the original game's dick so hard.

Playing this shit for the first time cause I'm finally able to push through and accept the battle system

Is there a way to control the slot machine or is it just totally random (with increased chance effects)?

That final fight looks so stupid and overdramatic, I though it was Zack hallucinating due to being extremely worn out and being delirious.

Cringe

I'm not talking about Zack, I'm talking about the world building and backstories.

It's not actually random. Level-up results are entirely predetermined by experience, which you acquire from beating fights and progressing the story. The summons are also determined by primitive AI, which tries to gauge how "on-top" of your game you are, or how badly you seem to need help to get through an encounter. There's some story elements that can weigh certain results a little more than others, but they by no means control the game.

Final Fantasy VIII had a similar engine. Both are equally tepidly received. Neither has an announced Switch release, but Crystal Chronicles does. Draw your own conclusions.

He's not a superhero, it made perfect sense before CC came out. He was well respected in FF7 but most of what you know of Zack is exclusive to CC. Aerith got wiped out in a pretty anticlimactic way too if you look at the bigger picture. It's a memorable scene but Sephiroth was just chilling up above and killed her in a single attack with no response. She didn't defend herself. Zack's original death was similar.

I vaguely recall that being the case now that you say, but I still just can't sit with the way it happens.
You're right in that Zack does go around picking up the clues and truths similar to AVALANCHE, but I don't know, call it a perspective bias but I just couldn't be sold on CC's execution compared to FFVII.

In FFVII the rumors and truth with the Cetra, Lifestream and Jenova add up due to the events within the story itself slowly being exposed through encounters with SHINRA and its obsession with Mako and genetic modification, so Sephiroth, Materia summon, the Weapons, etc come together in a way that feels like events governed by the setting's premise reaching its conclusion instead of things concluding because the plot's needs to wrap up.

I'll admit I've got not convincing thesis for my stance, I just couldn't buy Genesis' whole mess and stand by the idea CC should have just been stuff focused on Zack without too much fuss how it all ties to FFVII.

Yeah, especially Madden.

The game is fucking based
>10/10 OST
>based waifus, aeris and cissnei are top tier
>fun gameplay with great materia fusing system
>decent dungeons
>amazing looking CG for the time (still look decent)
>fucking stunning graphics and the best looking models that squeenix ever put in a game
I replay it once a year along with god hand and Ys oath

Attached: crisiscore.jpg (4128x3096, 2.14M)

>She didn't defend herself. Zack's original death was similar.

The closest thing I can call "defending oneself" in terms of vidya death scenes in Halo: Reach, where your final fucking mission is "Survive."

Given the choice between what happened to Aeris and what happened to JD, which would you pick?

Yes

When I say "didn't defend herself", I mean there was no fight or chance to protect herself, she was blindsided and killed in a single blow similar to how Zack originally was. FF7's themes were about how you return to the lifestream and death isn't the end, so it makes sense that most of the deaths in the game just happen (Jessie too to a lesser extent- an important pivotal story moment on a larger scale but not a grand moment for the dead avalanche members, no grand send off). I'd rather it stay in line with the original vision, yes.

This user gets it.
