People who like and enjoy this game should be sterilized so their bad opinions don't tarnish the genepool.

The story is badly written. The music is easily some of the most forgettable in the FF sound library. The map design is straight line with the occasional left or right path to a chest.

Then there's the combat. You mash one button and win. Occasionally paradigm shift when you need to heal. That's it. CAN you be more selective with your tactics? Yes. But it is actually more efficient to button mash.

It's just a bad game.

I recently realized I actually haven't played LR yet so started replaying Lightning's games again. Damn the first one still looks amazing for a PS3 game.

The whole trilogy combined sure.

Soundtrack is great. Paradigm shifting is absolutely worthwhile for buffs, debuffs, maxing out the meter, and reducing damage taken. Every role has its use. You probably got 1 star on everything. The weakness of the system is that it takes a long time to actually get going. The opening hours before the party becomes l'Cie are boring as fuck.
Agreed about the story and map design though.

I think the story is badly presented. I loved reading about the lore for XIII and XIII-2 on the wiki. LR does have a shit story, but whatever it's win/lose.

Were they ripping off Evangelion with the falcie being the angels? How come they were obsessed with meeting God but appearantly Lightning just goes between the God's realm and real life will nilly? I only played the original 13 btw.

Lightning is reincarnation of the Goddess in disguise and a valkyrie profile.

They were cursed with those marks and people were turning into crystals. That's why they wanted to find "god" and that's all I got out of the story.

Started again today after a long break though cause it does get monotonous, but I still enjoy it. I really like the environments and every character has grown on me, they are pretty endearing. And the music is really pleasant. I'm at the open world part doin all the sidequests. Just got a chokobo.

It's got too much wrong for it to be a master piece. The game is a fucking slog for a long time. The game starts to turn around once you land on Pulse and it starts to get really good. The endgame missions are a lot of fun and really bring the paradigm battles to its fucking knees it's fantastic. Also has a dope OST and pretty good setting. Writing is shit tho.

I played for 25 hours. The music is forgettable. Not bad, just no impression at all.

It's funny how haters can compare XIII to X, but when fans of XIII compare these 2 games, they are usually attacked.

Check the "languages" section on the FFwiki. It has translations of the cocoon/pulse/etro scripts.

I got 3 or 4 stars per battle. Also the fun of the combat should be that it's fun - getting 5 stars doesn't...do anything? Auto combat is excessively efficient.

DMC5 encourages me to do hypeshit by giving me a better grade AND letting me wreck enemies more efficiently.

If they cut Snow and Hope's screentime in half, the game would improve massively. The amount of cutscenes that feel repetitious because of these two is insane.

Autobattle doesn't know how to use TP or items. It doesn't understand enemy juggling. It can't predict enemy movement patterns or damage about to incur. When stagger occurs the Autobattle COM will try to launch the singular enemy. This is not the best course of action when you are disrupting a group of enemies. It will also try to launch the enemy every round even when magic spec'd because it doesn't know the enemy is already in the air. The RAV AI doesn't understand juggling either among other things. SYN and SAB (specifically debilitating SAB) should be self explanatory. The AI SEN doesn't know when you're switching for a quick second and would rather use guard over provoke. MED doesn't understand that removing deprotect, deshell, slow etc. should be a high priority. Nor does it understand that casting an AoE cure on yourself as opposed to turning to face another party member is better.

With autobattle I barely took damage, it was efficient for defeating monsters and not dying.

Rav Rav Com until staggered. Com Com Rav until dead. Sen Med Com on the occasions you need to heal. Rinse, wash, repeat.

Using poison on Orphan was the only time I felt the need to use a spell. And that's just because it cheeses him so ridiculously hard.

Fights just end up lasting more and more time, with super large HP gauges. That they would FULL HEAL every now and then.

Still repeat my paradigm shift plan and win. Mash X until you need to paradigm shift.

Did you know that a Brave spell is worth 40% extra damage, and a Debrave spell is worth 89% extra damage. Not using these is probably why you're having trouble taking down Behemoths before they transform, which is kind of the point of those encounters.

It had some problems, like bad writing and combat that was too easy (at least it was fun). Overall, it was much better than what I read about it - easily an 8/10 game.

I think it's a very underrated game, and I love coming back to it to mess around, or do challenge runs or speedruns.
But no, it's not a masterpiece. Not even close.

I skipped every optional fight and I thought it improved the game because you had to think more during boss fights to compensate for the weak party.

The speedrun of this game avoids almost every optional fight, and most treasures as well, and has enough leeway that there's been considerable changes to the best party and paradigm composition used over the years.
You're just bad at the game. No excuse.
