>cross-thread link in the OP
/vg/ here we come
This is going to be the 3rd time. Imagine getting this contained before Nintendo threads.
Shitty OP. Putting cross threads links in the OP is asking to get deleted by mods.
he's right though, you're really making it a general when you cross post the previous thread. The only missing thing is a pastebin with links. Please don't do this, the Yea Forums threads are great and are bringing MUCH needed new blood into the game. This isn't easy to get into and we need new friends.
this but at least it isnt OP with full of links and shits
still I rather not go to /vg/ just yet
I mean we already have retard tripfag from just the few time threads been moved to it
Never implied he was wrong.
Just got Adept, after 27 ranked matches. To celebrate that, here's a room.

You love big dora hands.
How are my states and what do people recommend I do with my play style?
If your DEF ain't at least 90 then get outta here
Look at the tabs below that, for East and South rounds. Those are more informative.
You're not Alexander the Great.

does this dumb game ever have gacha draw events or should I roll now
Roll now now now!
There are only six characters to unlock so I don't think so
>tfw you actually learned to play the mindfuck that is mahjong only to realize that to get the best hands you can't pick up the tiles other players discard and just have to hope you'll be lucky enough to draw a good hand on your own without any of the other players fucking you sideways before
That was a total waste of a week and a half.
whoa baby
What's wrong with that?
Also many of the real big dick hands like big winds and dragons are pretty much impossible without calling. Calling is absolutely a part of the game, you just can't do it constantly with no plan.
You can learn mahjong in just a couple of hours AND you CAN steal tiles from other players.
thank for the luck user
Always trust user!
I'm at Adept III trying to rank up to Expert but it feels like I'm fuckin' Sisyphus. I usually lose more ranking points at 4th place than you win at 1st place.
naisu
Better learn how to NOT end up last then
So learn to lose less and win more maybe?
If you keep flipflopping between 1st and 4th ofcourse you wont rank up.
Let me guess, chasing down riichi, making bad calls to move hand, and not defending properly?
Yea Forums could use a gambling game board, or just board games in general. /tg/ has way too much rp going on to fit mahjong in while /vg/ is already filled with console and PC games as it is.
STOP DEALING IN YOU STUPID CAT
JUST DEAL SOME FUCKING SAFE TILES THERE'S NO NEED TO PUSH AGAINST A DEALER RIICHI FOR AN OPEN TANYAO
I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD IF I GET ANOTHER THIRD PLACE BECAUSE SOME MOTHERFUCKER BUSTS OUT BY DEALING IN THREE TIMES IN A ROW BEFORE I CAN WIN A HAND I'M GONNA GO FUCKING NUCLEAR
You can't even name ten gambling games that could stand on their own
I don't agree with that idea since it's just further splintering this site's userbase. An argument could be made that there's enough users now that it wouldn't be an issue, but if we continue down the path of creating new boards just because some people wanted them, then we'll just go further down the path of us becoming Reddit. Also, I personally do not like having to go between a bunch of boards for discussions on related topics, like having to go to Yea Forums, /vg/, and /vr/ just to talk about certain games, and for a more specific problem, I really hated when they forced all western artists off of /d/ to /aco/. That board has no reason to exist.
>not this face
this is me except when I finally get a good hand I get ron'd for 18k the second I get into tenpai
/aco/ was a good idea and everyone who disagrees is a westaboo tumblrite
Is this normal?
Mahjong, poker, blackjack, cribbage, tien gow, gin rummy, rubber bridge, big two, koi-koi, hachi-hachi
/vg/ is filled with gacha games and katawa shoujo.
A normal tilt.

1/4, south, 10 seconds, standard rules. Who's up for a quick game?
Well, why give those westaboos a board to congregate in the first place if we don't want them on our site? It's like giving furries a board which is an actual thing now.
>south
>quick game
Yeah and they can support an entire thread on their own
I'll tell you what will happen, the board will have threads for ten different mahjong clients that will all always stay on page 1, and the rest of the threads will last so long they'll have to have years added to the post timestamp
/mlp/ does not count as a furry board. /mlp/ was a mistake.
I'm not talking about that place, though I actually did forget that place exists since they seem to keep to themselves most of the time.
It could be 4 rounds, and against me it would be over before you knew what hit you.
Because before /aco/ there were tumblr/deviantart shit intersparsed between stuff I'd actually fap to
Then after /aco/ there was a short period where fuckers spammed even more tumblr shit to retaliate but now that's pretty much subsided

>Powerful console is worth much more than Xwitch

Fucking 1000 point hand, I just needed one tile and I would have been maybe to second place from 4th.
>pon

Should you riichi when in tenpai for a yakuless hand with a shitty edge wait?
Feels like it's useless, but on the other hand if you don't do it what else do you do?
Should I be ditching edge wait protoruns even if I don't have other ready protoruns to avoid that situation in the first place?
It feels like 90% of my hands end on a useless edge wait, by the time I've got rid of my single honors there's always a couple of 12s or 89s in my hand, blocking me from tanyao and never completing for me in the end either.
Xwitch is a famiclone
Powerful console has no gaems
>Should you riichi when in tenpai for a yakuless hand
If you want a free yaku, then yes. It also makes other players not want to deal into you just in case you actually have a good hand that could hurt them.
Just like in real life.
Thanks for the games fellas, I'm out for now.
Heh. Sorry, fourthy
You have yet to taste the power of the shitty wait riichi only ippatsu triple uradora. You won't build a hand any other way afterwards.
>hey lets try for a sanshoku doujun to pull myself out of 2nd
>aw shit they're going for it too, and they have the sevens i need, lets just throw away this 8 then
>RON
GGs though
Where do you get the emotes from
This has burned me so many times, though. I've been told it's a good idea, but it has cost me so many points. The single 7 or 3 never comes up, even when it does come up I get a fucking piddly 1000 points, and worst of all half of the time I deal straight into an avoidable 8000 Ron or worse because I'm riichiid.
I'm losing faith, there's only so many times I can stick my hand in the fire and get burnt without learning the lesson.
>Fucking 1000 point hand
Someone made a rip but I don't have the link anymore.
Like every other thing you can do in this game, it all depends on the situation. If you think you can use the riichi as a means of intimidation for people to throw away their built up hands, then you can do it, but if someone else is already in tenpai, then it's probably not a good idea unless you have a really big dick.
Jesus christ I didn't even know you could actually fuck dolphins in their mouth.
Thankings
Maybe it's just because I'm in low ranks, then. No-one ever defends under any circumstances, they continue building their hands just the same. That makes it more likely for my riichi to succeed I suppose, but it also makes it far more likely for me to deal into something real.
I'll just stop doing it until I get to gold rooms or something where people might start defending.
Tile efficiency guide?
Where else are you supposed to fuck them? I don't see any ass.
Throw away internal tiles and duplicates first. You'll have your kokushi musou in no time.

Can anyone explain how to get characters f2p? I don't wanna pay money but I want the autistic fbi girl
You realistically won't, but here.
Play silver ranked+ rooms for gifts, don't buy them with copper.
>spend extra copper (lol) on gifts
>turn gifts into dust
>turn dust into summon scroll
>summon gift
>cry and get your wallet out
excellent
Time. A LOT OF TIME
>Play silver or above rooms
>Gain coppers and gifts by doing so
>Use the coppers to buy more gifts and play more games
>Dust all your gifts
>Green gift = 1 dust
>Blue = 5
>With 50 dust you get a single roll
>And each roll has 5% chance of giving you a single random character
I think it's better to waste the dust on purple bags to level faster your character.
Chitoitsu is such a satisfying hand. Bonus points if you do it multiple times in a match.

Honestly, it's just been really on my mind lately. I actually ran into someone who has Synesthesia the other day. She said she didn't listen to jazz, so I showed her Giants Steps, and she IMMEDIATELY picks up on all of the key shifts and is just completely thrown for a loop. Then she spent an hour or two just going over how sound looked to her. I even heard her during a brief period of downtime going "Oh, shit, I know this singer. I remember what her voice looked like" then plowing into her phone to go find the song. Shit was really fascinating. /blogposting This album good shit too.

Its mediocre desu.
Let's go boys
Majsoul Friends Room 96179(4-Player South): mahjongsoul.game.yo-star.com
It's really not the best wait. I guess it's hard to defend against it, as you can't use suji tactics. But at best, it leaves you with only 4 tiles to win from. That's assuming you can't see any other copies of that tile on the table.
Why do you whale? Tell me how I can get gacha money?
No longer a Bronze shitter. I've been having a lot of good games today when I was in either 1st or 2nd and only got into 4th place twice, which couldn't be helped.
It's a good trick to fool expert players, because Dual Pair waits are pretty much impossible to predict. The problem becomes that its also inefficient, because at best you're waiting for 4 tiles total to win, most likely waiting on 1-2.
t. Tetsunaki no Kirinji
I only spent 5 dlls
In my opinion a triple two sided wait is the best wait even if no one deals in. Something like a 23456 hand waiting on the 1, 4 and 7 making for 11 tiles to wait at best.
I'm a brainlet how do i stop getting into furiten?
stop at nine furries instead!
Congrats on the good rng
Look at your discard pile and try to plan hands that don't involve roning/tsumoing things that you put there.
What's the point of kanning?
>ah yes today i will play some video games
>12 hours of chink poker later
Pay more attention to the discards and other players pon or chi when you're going for a specific Yaku and know when you will eventually be in furiten then switch your hand up to another Yaku type.
So when would it be appropriate to use? Is it more for convenience if I have multiple pairs but they're far away from connecting with anything useful AND there aren't already copies of the tiles on the tables I'd need to complete the triplet?
>more points
>more dora
>redraws another useful tile
>reamshine kaishow
Use it when your hand gets into tenpai and you have two pairs. You're overthinking this by a wide margin. You shouldn't really worry about what type of wait you have unless you have a choice between that and another kind of wait. You should just focus on getting into tenpai first.
Kan flips the dead wall tiles, indicating a new dora. You'd also draw out a tile from it, which you'd otherwise would never get in any other means.
Also there's a rule where if the game comes to a draw when there are 4 kans.
Don't set youd mind on specific waits or yaku, as you get tiles see what kind of wait is going to form and use it.
Just try to make efficient discards.
Mahjong mangas go on for so long, it's jarring to see how much the artists' styles change.
>Also there's a rule where if the game comes to a draw when there are 4 kans.

It's an odd rule, one that occurs where everyone has a bunch of triplets and couldn't help themselves to press the button.

If you discard a middle tile of a suit, be prepared to never develop in that suit again, even if you get nice tiles later.
It's a great way to diffuse the round if you need to get out of that round as quickly as possible
To kinda defend against it, if its around 30 draws left in the wall, chances are somoenes waiting for one of the 4 tiles (maximum) for that, so dont drop any tile that hasnt been dropped in the game yet.

It's a pure shit hand and you can restart the hand if you like, the only reason to not do it is if you want to go for kokushi.
If your hand has nine different aces, nines, and honors, you can abort the round. (If you get more than nine you can still abort, but might choose to go for the kokushi musou hand.)

No ;)
You can get a guaranteed character after 150 rolls if you didn't get her beforehand.
Nope, 5% chance per roll. I actually dropped 40 bucks on 20 rolls in a moment of stupidity and it actually worked out cause I got the only character I wanted on the 15th roll lol.

Avoid open toitoi is like the easiest thing to do.
If he dont have any value pon, dont give him dora/value honor. If he have value pon, full betaori. You deal into open toitoi because of your fault alone not him.
if i did my math correctly you would have to get the $80 jade bundle for a 92% chance over x rolls that the money buys you.
It took me three ten rolls to get a second flavor of Chiwa Saitou.
Seriously, how do I win in silver room? Im pretty much never coming in last and only deal into hands when im backed into a corner but I never get enough points to win outright. Im starting to think im playing too defensively or something. I get my points to above 30k and play super safe and then the nyaggers consistantly deal into the other players' obvious waits or just toss their dangerous tiles willy nilly
Is pinfu supposed to happen naturally?
I know I'm playing efficiently, I score 98-100% on that trainer, but I end up in tenpai on a middle or pair wait every time. Or with 1 random triplet.
All of my hands have no yaku except riichi.
so if I want to farm for silver chests, should I do east? or does south give an appropriate amount of points for the time investment?
South does give more, and is a little bit more affected by skill and less by luck because of the length of the games.
South gives 50% more points but you could theoretically do east twice in the time you do south once so East unless you can somehow consistently bust other people in south
South gives double the rewards.
What's your efficiency like? You may need to play faster and be ready to make open calls. It could also just be poor luck on your part.
When people aim for pinfu, they mean that they don't riichi until their hand is in an open wait, so in actuality, they kind of force it, because they'll sit in a yakuless/tanyao tenpai for turns and turns and turns until they get the tile on the otherside, THEN they riichi.
Trainer?
Pinfu can happen naturally, dont make triplets, discard honors, and keep non round/prevailing winds if they're helpful.
guess i'll start grinding...so after all this grinding, you get a single roll, with only a 5% chance at a character, and you can only do it 5 times a month?
You did summon her in Halloween of 2017, right?
So is it worth doing if I'm yakuless in tenpai on a middle wait?
I usually just call it there.
Probably isn't reasonable on an edge or pair wait.
The trainer is this thing: euophrys.itch.io
Wait, so are WE playing as the girls, or are we like someone looking over their shoulder? Why does the character refer to us as if we're an actual person whenever they score or do something?
Don't expect to actually get anything, ever.
I've managed 1 summon ticket so far after ~80 games, and it gave me a single blue gift I turned into 5 dust.
The reason high-level players do it is because you can expect that if you riichi in rooms with good players, they will almost never ever play into your hand, so you should be expecting to tsumo your hands. In earlier rooms with chinks just calling and tossing out tiles willy nilly, there's no need for such tactics.
You are their [stand]
Ok, got it, thanks.
My real 4th place ratio is lower than that with my current playstyle, maybe like 3/20 games. Its just pumped up cause I was being stupid when I started. How do I play faster? I feel like im going for the most optimal waits, 2 sided waits on sequences most often. I dunno, I open call when its appropriate but I dont really do it unless im either gunna get some points off dora or I want to end a round early. I do tend to just outright fold instead of going for quick wins when im ahead but I feel like not doing that was what gave me so many fourths before. I fold alot more in general now
you don't want efficiency all the time, sometimes it's better to trade efficient discards for ones that give you bigger hands, especially if it helps you avoid dealing into other people.
it could be if its not too risky too discard certain tiles to create the new wait. wouldn't on an edge.
ex. 5,7 on wait for 6
draw 4 discard 7 new wait is 6,3 which is 2 kinds possible 8 tiles. and pinfu is now obtainable.
can't see why you wouldn't.
>How do I play faster? I feel like im going for the most optimal waits, 2 sided waits on sequences most often.
Did you start this game just recently with the Yea Forums threads, or have you been playing for awhile? I feel like maybe something you might not be doing is fully efficient discard with tricky/complex waiting patterns.
Real quick, when you have a pattern like, say, 5667 in your hand and you draw another tile, would you discard that 6, or would you leave it in there?
No, but I got her on JP New Years and then Valentine's Day NA. I did get red Tamamo along with Redman in my tutorial roll, though.
or rather 2,3 would be correct. it has to be a 2 sided edge right?
mahjong souls is an extremely niche and lowbudget game where the main draw is mj first and waifus second (unlike other mobage where the main draw is waifus first and gameplay second)
if the game was a tiny bit more generous, whales would pretty much have nothing to roll for because the game barely has any cosmetics right now.
How new is this game exactly? Is only the english version new? I'd like some more cosmetics if the game is still under development
I learned to play after watching Akagi, played it pretty well in Yakuza 0 for awhile and then got back into it again when Mahjong Soul came out so I dont think im bad by any means. Theres probably still something im missing If I had 5667 and pulled a tile, I would look at a bunch of factors like dora and other players being in richii/open potentially powerful hands. If I felt it was safe to make any move and dora werent invlolved, I would keep the 6 it if it was a 5 or 7 for the possible double sequence. otherwise id dump it assuming its not dangerous since a middle pair like that isnt very useful for most hands
English is new. It's been in china in 2018.
I can't until mahjongsoul actually releases the furry character
Akagi is fucking insane.
But at least it got me thinking about other people's hands when I play, so that's a plus.
Frustrated, my past 40 games just tanked my deal in rate and 1st place rate. The luckiest opponents game after game and just not having fun when its either betatori all game because 3 turn haneman tsumos every round and maybe stay in 3rd if 4th doesn't also get lucky with their own damn tsumos, or try to claw back and be brave and then eat shit going to negatives because not lucky enough. Like, if I decide not to betatori when they are in riichi or obvious tenpai, I might finally get that chinitsu hand or a hand I can take far with a dora bomb if I didnt go negative yet and then someone else will just deal in to a 1k hand, tsumo for a baiman and wipe me regardless of anything I could have done, or get ronned the second I declare riichi. I had 0% negative games before 30 something games, most of them are just me getting bored of betatori at 3rd or 4th and trying to attack while defending but never getting it. The one or two games when the flow finally comes to me and the dora and faster hands start flowing, someone always fucking rushes pons and chis for a cheap 1k to end my dealers, but not anyone else's turns and when its theirs I cant be the one to do it since my hands are always too shit and slow then and opening my hand to do it usually leads to disaster with so little defense and always being iishanten on good tiles but staying stuck for 12+ turns.
>I have a lot of sou and honor tiles so I'll go for a half/full flush
>Draw nothing but man and pin tiles
early 2018 or late? that's still fairly new
>I would keep the 6 it if it was a 5 or 7 for the possible double sequence. otherwise id dump it assuming its not dangerous since a middle pair like that isnt very useful for most hands
I think that right there answers my question. Though you're aware of the possibility of the double sequence, you seem to tend towards dumping it earlier rather than later. You should keep a hold of that 6 for as long as possible, specifically because you have the open wait on two sets as opposed to having a single set with an obnoxious middle in it. Even if it winds up never being an iipeiko, I'll wind up keeping that middle tile, and my hands will likely tend to end up like 455667 when I hit tenpai.
Then again, your stats don't indicate anything overtly bad. But I feel like that's a sort of intermediate player trap that a lot of people run into, along with other complex waiting and hand building strategies like that.
Have you looked into the block theories, yet?
i guess you're right, i'll just have to expect i'm gonna be listening to the semen demon for the rest of my mahjong soul career
5667 is good to keep around till you're 1 shanten. then ditch the 6
Someone posted a replay of a Saint 3 last thread.
Why would you not riichi here? Riichi pinfu sanshoku is 7700 if a ron, and 8000 if tsumo. No one has called yet or seems to have a particularly strong hand judging from discards, while he has a 3 sided wait.
I guess I'm not a lesbian
free sex you say?
Think of all those opponents you're deluding into going "Hey this isn't that hard, this is fun!" who will board the Mahjong bullshit train with us and become 1st class passengers into hanuhell.
Because that's the only explanation for why this bullshit sounds like me. I don't actually get deal-in much, but that's because I've had to accept the last 30 games or so I just have everyone's needed tiles and will literally not be allowed to form a hand without paying for someone's ron.
>start hand
>2 south winds
>never south
>5 times in a row except when i'm south
they won't leave me alone.
Is that like, when someone has a discarded 4, a 1 or 7 is more likely to be safe because of furiten? If thats not it then no, I dont think I have
On the positive side, better to dump honour tiles earlier than later!
Probably because if you discard the 1s you add a tanyao to your hand but the wait is really bad (6m), so better to wait for a better one WHILE still having tenpai with ron in case that 6m actually comes out.
I'm starting to notice this by accident not by design, I'll hit tenpai quicker by (limited, only played about 110 games so far) statistic.
gg boys
No one would probably discard live 47s, he can pick yaku to ron on, he could get more value from tanyao and/or red dora.
gg luckshitter
He cut the 6m. Wait was 147s. Sure you could wait and pray for a 4m dora, but riichi gives the same extra 1 han with the chance of ura dora
Isn't forcing everyone else to defend and aiming for tsumo good enough?
luck is a skill :)
The 7s would eventually come out I think, he's discarded 9-88s and 2 of them are discarded already, it would be on the "safer" pile to discard.

I wanna eat mahjong tiles!
you'll always catch a streak bad rng sooner or later, it's just how the game is. the variance will even out eventually, just keep playing as solid as possible and force yourself to stop if you feel even the slightest bit of tilt
>Is that like, when someone has a discarded 4, a 1 or 7[...]
No, this is suji, and is basically a sort of backup strategy for when you run out of tiles. What you should look at is this:
mahjong.guide
You should also practice large, complex wait patterns. I'll give you this to practice on too. This should help a bunch.
gamedesign.jp
You have a good sense of the tiles then. I played hundreds of games and honestly never noticed it until someone brought up that it was two open blocks rather than 1 set with a single-wait.
Yep, reading that article now. Thanks!!
>force yourself to stop if you feel tilted
Where's the fun in that?
I live for the moments where my 5 game losing streak is ended with a brutal dealer baiman, sending some poor sap who ronned me for 1000 points 5 rounds ago down into the bowels of hell.
It wouldn't be the same if I had cooled off and forgotten all about the losses anyway.
Is there every gonna be a male character? Any word on it?
>South 3
>Third place
He's aiming to ron off of one of the top two placers, most likely left. THAT, or he's waiting for red fives to show up. He's likely going to do that until he gets a tsumo, or until 1st drops a juicy tile and he's not in temporary furiten.
>Call riichi with 15 draws left
>Tenpai, noten, tenpai, tenpai
I could not read his intention, but he probably wanted to get away from 1s. 1s ron didn't make yaku, and if he riichi'd but drew 1s, that would only give 2 han, that's not good enough to overtake 2nd, let alone 1st. With South 3 and South 4 on 1st place as dealer, he probably wanted to take over right now with better hand.
Though if it was 3-4 turns later I'd riichi, it's too late to improve hand.
5s and 6s were live as fuck, so they could assume he's holding on those.

I'm surprised this game doesn't have more girls/costumes/music/decorations anyway. I mean its not like most other gacha games, they don't have to make new maps, gameplay tweaks, stats, ect ect. they just need some .pngs and a girl to voice some lines.
yeah and sometimes more decorations and effects. It's kind of insane how expensive girls are in this compared to something like azur lane
The game is new and the VAs are top tier (expensive)
That obviously depends on how far into the hand you are. It's not going to do you any good if you're 1-shanten.
If you're 1-shanten, your next move should be get into tenpai, and that frankly just goes without saying.
This gives me hope there's more to come
Sorry, Mahjong is for lesbians only.

This is retarded. Mahjong was invented in the Qing dynasty so it's not even 200 years old. The dragons (really elements) represent confucian virtues of piety, benevolence, and sincerity. The Japanese Haku is just Haku though since it doesn't mean anything without the board.
Damnit, derped up and meant to quote. . Late night nyaggers aren't healthy.

Isn't it based on money suited playing cards that went way further back?
Honiisou or Chanta, If you see them start pon'ing other winds and at least one hasn't been 3x discarded bail immediately.
delicious forbidden candy
Yes, the suited tiles still all represent money. Red green and white do indeed represent ancient beauty virtues but the specific characters and the white board chosen for the dragons means they were going after the Confucian virtues.
Wouldn't that be the winds?
Do you think the souzu tiles taste different than the manzu tiles?
For me, it's haku pocchi.
>rhinestone haku and 5pin akadora
why
it's so ugly
>rhinestone
In some parlors, those tiles will be joker tiles if you draw it after riichi.
Certain parlors in Japan play with something called "Shuugi", or chips. Basically, Japanese law fucked gambling so hard that most "legit" places can't let you bet enough that you could actually win something meaningful. Shuugi is sort of a way to get around that. Basically, if you win with certain conditions, on top of the points, your opponent owes you shuugi chips which are basically worth a set amound, like 1000yen or something. Most of these conditions rely on the conditional yaku or extra dora, like ura-dora and red dora.
Anyways long story short, some places play with gemmed 5s, gold 5s, etc, which gives you extra shuugi chips. Also, there are some places that have a gemmed White Dragon, and if you're in tenpai, it turns into both a shuugi chip AND a wild card that can be any tile.
THAT'S why it's ugly. It's ugly on the inside, not just the out.
didn't yakuza places have a sort of coupon system where you didn't win money but vouchers that some totally unaffiliated store down the street exchanged for items and cash?
Welp, I dont know if it was good luck or if my old playstyle really just sucked but the first game I played after reading up on block theory I came in first! Thanks Yea Forums!!!
That's how pachinko skirts gambling laws. I don't know about mahjong.
You're thinking pachinko, and yeah, that's true. The law for gambling is really, really weird and vague from what I can tell.
You're welcome.
Unintelligent play is literally the best defence against mind games though.
They can't read you if there's nothing to read.
Suji traps don't work if you're too dumb to notice the bait.
Etc, etc, etc...
Retard mahjong is great system: they pretend suji trap is on purpose, and we pretend to see through it.
If I remember correctly, the Japanese don't consider it gambling unless the win rate is over a certain amount of money. So winning pennies is fine, and winning one slightly big time is okay, but big winnings with a large amount of people (including the house) isn't. Japan basically circumvents it by keeping it to tenpin at the highest, or 100yen/1,000points (rounded off). Then, on top of the low rate, after every East-South session, the guy in top has to also pay a table rate, which I think is something like 1000yen itself. Meaning that even at a +12 score at the end of the game, you're making jack and shit.
Ron on your own discarded tile. They can't ron you if you ron yourself first.
So is there a different arrangement occurring in Tetsunaki no Kirinji, or is the whole thing bullshit?
What are the shuugi chips? Are they those poker chip lookin things I see trays for on some automatic tables?
I want to eat shuugi chips!
No, it's pretty consistent there. In theory, it's possible to make a living playing in parlors, but you'd have to win literally ALL of the time. Also, Kirinji makes money off of a lot of Shuugi chips, which I'll be honest, I don't know how that's legal, but it's a real thing in Japan.
Though, if you want to make actual money, you need to go play in private areas, or in other words, HIGH STAKES ILLEGAL MAHJONG
Yes. Though some places, you just hand over the bills directly cause who's gonna bother?

Degenerate gambling, obviously.

play tenhou
Game feels too slow. The only hands I'm actually able to build consistently are worth 1-2k and don't pack enough of an oomph to even keep trying and some lucker will just richi on the first few turns and hit you for 12k anyways. I'm sick of it.

Learn when to fold, learn how to play defense.
When someone is in riichi or has multiple open melds, you should avoid dealing tiles that are likely to be their winning tiles. The safest option is to deal any tile that's in their discard pond since they'd be in furiten for it. After that come "dead" tiles like the 4th of a wind/dragon when 3 others are either in your hand or in the discard ponds or dora indicators or whatever. After that come suji tiles based on what the person has discarded, but this might be a trap.

This hurts my Mahjong Soul™.
Feeding dragons into daisangen should not be counted yakuman. Yes I'm mad at people think it's okay to toss the third dragons into this.
The backs aren't marked and the faces of haku aren't marked, so they'll have both sides get worn out from shuffling and eventually the hakus will all stand out like a sore thumb because both sides of them will be as worn as the faces of the other tiles.
What models are the other sets?
This is what the yakuman accountability rule exists for. If some dumbass deals the third dragon pon, then they're responsible for that person's hand if they win even if it's by tsumo. Even if someone else deals in for the ron then whoever dealt the last dragon pon still pays half.

Should I learn Chink or Riichi mahjong?
Chinese/hong kong mahjong is just an RNG clusterfuck
Riichi's furiten rule makes it a lot less random and a lot more strategic, and the riichi mechanic also adds a lot of depth and counterplay
chinese classical is still my favorite but nobody plays it, I love the scoring
Riichi mahjong has a stronger presence in modern pop culture, chink mahjong is for smelly old people. This means it's easier to find online clients and players for riichi mahjong, as well as people in your age group to play with irl.

Let's go
I'll just break down my example with the flush. The key here is that I have multiple sequences, pairs, and triplets, so I can get a 123, 456, 567, 66 pair, or 789. What all of those sequences do is take one away from a triplet there and create a pair alongside a chii.
This looks neat, are there any other aesthetic/novelty styles of mahjong sets like this one out there?

Basically have a bunch of overlapping melds. The only one you can plan for normally is a 3-sided 23456/34567/45678 pattern, but they usually resolve into two melds by the time you hit tenpai anyway.
Room for 1 more.
I'm good, thanks thought.
If you know the basic rules of one, you can very quickly switch into another. Everything is usually the same except for the Yaku and adding 2 extra han/fan in Riichi for no reason when scoring fu.
fuck trying to defend against that
Another common type that you can kinda cater towards is 5666/6777 etc = 3 waits.
Adding nearby tiles tend to increase types but I guess one wouldn't normally aim for that. Add a seq like 234+5666 and you get 5 waits = 1,2,4,5,7.
It's actually really easy to avoid dealing into since my discard pile makes it really fucking obvious what I want.
I dunno about that. Your discard pile seem pretty simple. Though I suspect you want a character, I wouldn't think you got got an acceptance of 6/9 in characters.
I did it
GG, sorry that it was kinda one sided with my lucky tsumos.

whats the proper procedure? betaori and avoid minus?
so when you win with riichi and get the uradora tiles does it actually flip all of them but the game only shows you the ones that give you a dora?
If that haneman can shoot you up one or even places, I would go for it. Or if you can extend the game into west.
It shows all of them, you only flip as many uras as there are dora. So if nobody called any kans, there's just one dora indicator and one ura dora indicator.
Those look maybe Hong Kong tile size. Chinese tiles have like 8 different sizings to them. For reference, the Japanese standard tile is actually still smaller than the Chinese small size.

30k is not a safe lead. Don't fold preemptively. The benchmark is being able to tank a mangan tsumo without dropping a place, and even so it's only really applicable in south round - throughout east round you shouldn't pay much consideration to placements and point standings.
