Is magic viable in Morrowind...

Is magic viable in Morrowind? I want to play as a glorious foreing paladin agent who's there to investigate nasty daedric worship.

Less so than in the later games, since magicka doesn't recover naturally without resting, but cranking out restore potions is pretty easy, and there are some absorb items that can really help.

the whole thing of going through dungeons using magic then taking a nap in some bandit's bedroll or the ground before continuing to recharge always seemed exceptionally retarded to me even by the standards of typical RPG weirdness

weak early in the game but ridiculously broken and fun later on

Paladins are gay. Have a drink instead.

Vancian magic systems were never meant to be convenient, or particularly well translated in video games.

If you use the alchemy/enchanting exploit, super op. Otherwise meh.

Sorry i've not actually played morrowing I just saw "flinging spells and napping" on the front page and assumed it was based on the game's age.

Is it just a really slow MP bar or something?

It's an MP bar, but you normally need to rest to recover it (unless you have a restore magicka potion or an absorb magicka item). If you picked the atronach sign, then you automatically convert half of all magic used against you into magicka, but you can't recover it by resting.

>investigate
>it's openly practiced
case closed detective dipshit

it's fucking broken, like almost everything in morrowind

>openly practiced
>get attacked at every daedra shrine
>Temple ordinators even clean out one of the shrines during the main quest

OP you do know daedra worship was legal in most places pre-Oblivion right?

>daedra shrine hidden in the sewers of Vivec
>door guard attacks on sight
>legal

Yes it's a really fun character concept and it works. There are certain items and factions which are right up that alley.
I would recommend Breton and Atronach if you're somewhat inexperienced and need a boost to get through the early game. But if you don't mind slow-going then lots of other things could work and you'll just have to train magic. Breton+Atronach is pretty much the most broken race/sign anyway.
If you want to train magic a "legit" way make custom spells with minimum effects and spam them in a room. Successfully casting a spell grants experience. The actual 'difficulty' or damage the spell deals isn't part of the calculation.

You're both correct and incorrect. Some daedra are openly worshipped while others are outlawed. Oblivion isn't sending its best. I want daedra to come but I want them to come LEGALLY.

Can you not bring in your retarded head canon into one of the best rpg experiences of all time? It doesn't require your stupid shit within or outside the game to be enjoyable so use the other non autistic parts of your brain next time. Thanks, insufferable moralfag.

lel wow who's the pala that raped your little bumhole disgusting heather.

It was a succubus irl, she sucked me dry of everything I loved and then dumped me. Since then I only take chaotic neutral and neutral evil moral choices because only thing that matters in life is you can inflict pain on others and feel nothing. Moralfags are always normies that are untouched by true evils and you'll learn yours eventually.

why are paladins raping people :(

the "crusader" class is basically the equivalent of a paladin, goody two shoes in heavy armor who casts buff/heal spells. when you start the game you will mostly just be a knight who can cast some weak healing spells on yourself but by later on you'll be able to health others, cure disease/blight, reverse skill drains, etc.

>In-game description:
>Any heavily armored warrior with spellcasting powers and a good cause may call himself a Crusader. Crusaders do well by doing good. They hunt monsters and villains, making themselves rich by plunder as they rid the world of evil.

*ironically restoration is a minor skill and you don't start with any healing spells with this class (while destruction is a major skill for some whacky reason and you start with a fire spell) but lorewise crusaders are basically paladins who can also set evildoers on fire, it's fairly quick to acquire the necessary healing magic + it being a minor skill shouldn't screw you too bad

Burning out corruption with holy fire seems pretty crusade-y.

doesn't destruction have turn undead etc?

turn undead is conjuration which... kinda makes sense since that's the necromancer school of ES but it does seem weird that the game's paladins don't have it
