So now that I've had some time to digest the game. Overall, I think DMC5 is a great game, I enjoyed every minute of my time spent with it so far. In the end though, while I think the game is fantastic I do not think it was what I was expecting after 11 years of waiting. Not only that, but I also do not think the game does anything ground breaking in its own right
Devil May Cry 1 paved the way for hack and slash games and is still a solid game nearly 20 years later. Devil May Cry 3 is regarded by most as the best in the series, and Devil May Cry 4 is famous for its juggling potential. All three of these games brought some innovative to the series, Devil May Cry 5 does not. The game is more a culmination of ideas but doesn't really expand them in any meaningful way. I don't understand why the devs didn't find some way to incorporate Doppleganger and Quicksilver back into Dante's arsenal, Nero not being able to swap Devil Breakers on the fly was a very dumb decision in my opinion. V is also wears out his welcome after one playthrough, recurring playthroughs of the game feel like a slog because of him.
The bosses are also a bit lacking, Cavalier Angelo is great until you realize how insanely easy it is to clash stun him, Vergil's fight doesn't feel like the finale it should because his moveset is so basic compared to Vergil 3, and because he is revealed so late into the game there's no meaningful build up to the final boss. Mission 18 boss fights are cool if for the sole reason they are a final homage to Devil May Cry 1, every Urizen fight is pretty much garbage, and the other bosses lacked any memorable personality.
I think DMC5 is a great game, but it wasn't the messiah it was hyped up to be in my opinion. Ultimately it feels like it could have used a bit more dev time, but I guess Capcom knows most people are going to pony up the cash for the Special Edition version so they can maximize their profits.
Feels like they should have made more missions so there was better pacing.
Nathan Hughes
If this is the last real DMC game, I have to say that it's kind of underwhelming.
Benjamin Johnson
>DMC5 brings no innovation >Literally created a unique playstyle never before seen in a DMC game >Literally gave an existing character a brand new mechanic Why is OP a faggot? if you don't like something feel free to say it, but don't spout bullshit.
Leo Nguyen
Devil Breakers are not game changers the way the Style system was, the way instant weapon switching was, or the way Style Switching was. Neither is ART or Quad S. They are nice additions but nothing more.
Jacob Nelson
>What is V adding an entirely new form of gameplay?
Luke Richardson
>being regarded as the best >and juggling >innovation >over new character mechanics kek
Aiden Young
>V >unique or innovative
Yeah no. V can honestly fuck right off, his gameplay is so god damn boring and something like him will likely not appear again. I'd rather play Dad of War again than ever have to play as V ever again.
Carter Wilson
I'd like it a lot more if I could just skip V levels
Jack Perry
They completely are for the character, in addition he also got essentially a second exceed. He has never felt more complete than in 5. It's time to stop posting.
Levi Gutierrez
>i don't like it >thus it's not innovative
Jayden Rodriguez
And it's shit that will not stick with the franchise at large. You can argue V was interesting, but ultimately he's a novelty that wears thin very fast.
Gabriel Foster
A terrible idea that not only damages the game but has actually resulted in people dropping the game as that is preferable to playing as V on higher difficulties. V a shit.
Jayden Sanchez
>people dropped the game because the character who can actually breeze through bloody palace the fastest was too hard on higher difficulties Literally who did?
Tyler Rodriguez
Not been in any /dmc/ threads have you? far too many people refusing to play the main game anymore due to V.
Mason Nelson
it's a good game, but having been on the hype train there's so many obvious things I was looking forward to that didn't happen (hopefully we'll get more at some point)
co-op bloody palace, character select on every mission, playable vergil and the others, more costumes, turbo, LDK, >20 missions because of the additional characters (instead we effectively got less since there were 4 boss fight only missions), and a bunch more new stuff like maybe a randomizer for bloody palace or a boss rush. It might be unfair to expect so much, but when I heard "will exceed even your expectations" I was stupid enough to believe it
Evan Morgan
correct it's not enough to be different, it also has to have longevity and be fun to play, hence why noone really cares about lady or trish in 4
Ayden Wilson
>itt people disapointed that things they hyped up too much to happen didn't actually happen Serves you all right for jumping the gun so swiftly. You did it with co-op when there was no reason to. You did it with Vergil dlc. You did it with Dante in Smash just because of a fucking announcement of DMC1 on switch. When will you learn to stop overhyping shit.
Adrian Evans
he feels more complete on PC with an arm switcher mod (plus reversals and inertia), being able to switch on the fly opens up a world of options and fun
Asher Ward
>dante in smash I'm actually glad this probably won't happen jesus
Lincoln Fisher
Kek, DMC1 is behind every single game in the series now saved 2.
Sorry shit tier puzzles and underwater shit not for me. DmC > DMC1
Chase Baker
>this stuff isn't for me >so I'll put the game that puts platforming above combat ahead of the game that spawned an entire genre Never go full retard lad
Just completed DMC1 on Hard Mode, post DMC1 Dante please
Xavier Price
>influential shit >can't be surpassed kek, sorry nigga putting shit on a pedestal even when others have surpassed it in gameplay (even outside of the DMC series itself) is straight nonsense.
Jack Davis
Perhaps but it also demands a certain level of respect and putting a game that took a huge shit on the series and even the genre itself, above it is nothing short of an insult, or the shit opinion from someone born after DMC3 was already out.
Samuel Allen
lmao actually using Yea Forums as a metric hahahah
Colton Long
And there's also a reason most modern day action games also don't play like DMC1, they scrubbed out all the bloatware and the unecessary stuff. That's like saying the original GTA is better than the 3D titles because it was first, nah my dude, nah.
Adam Ramirez

Julian Evans
>going through DmD
>mission 10
put me out of my fucking misery and drop me safely in this hell
I will respect a games contribution entirely, but I will not put DMC1 above any other besides 2 on either a gameplay front or a story front, because it simply is not as strong or either fronts compared to the newer titles.
Justin Williams
>not as strong as DmC And that's why your opinion dosn't mean shit
William Watson
I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE TO FILL YOUR DARK SOUL WITH LIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHT!
Jonathan Bailey
Who wore it best?
Dante's: I should have been the one to fill your dark soul with Lighee(voice crack)ght.
or
Nero's: I'm not gonna let you dieeeee. Personally I go with Nero cuz no voice crack and JYB is great at screaming.
Not who you're replying to, but I'm sorry to tell you that Yea Forums is full of absolute morons.
V on DMD is about as hard as Dante or Nero on normal. At least on DMD he gets mildly fun since you actually have to dodge attacks now and then.
Tyler Sullivan
They're not really comparable. Dante's line is poorly delivered by a bad voice actor, Nero's line is well delivered by a good voice actor. They're both pretty great.
Isaac Thomas
V is literally brain dead to play as user. He's so removed from combat that's he's more anti-DMC than fucking Donte.
Brayden Lopez
DMC is only as fun as you want to make it.
You can play Dante with nothing but rebellion and Faust equipped while never switching off of Trickster and be bored out of your mind or you can arm yourself to the teeth, switch styles 100 times a second mid fight, and combo the shit out of your opponents feeling like a badass.
The same holds true for V. If all you do is hang back reading a book with the camera pointed towards the wall, then of course he's going to feel boring.
Nothing. Defeating enemies require no tactical thinking.
Jonathan Taylor
>If all you do is hang back reading a book with the camera pointed towards the wall, then of course he's going to feel boring Your webm doesn't prove your point, he's still boring.
Wyatt Johnson
DMC5 as a whole, feels like the game that DMC4 should have been all those years ago. Or at least, it feels like the game that should have immediately followed DMC4 had DmC never happened. On one hand, that's great; Nero is more fleshed out, Dante has a fun weapon set, the puzzles and backtracking are kept to a minimum, the game is awesome. But on the other hand, DMC5 doesn't make as big of a splash on its own as DMC1/3 did when they released. Things like co-op, replaying missions as any character, Vergil on disc, new enemies that rival DMC1 and/or force you to fight them in interesting ways, a new style for Dante or a new weapon/moves for Nero would have made the game feel a bit more "new" rather than just an upgraded DMC4. Sadly, the freshest thing in DMC5 is V. Though I find him fun to play as, I can't help but admit that he's very limited. A customizable summon set or a few melee moves would make him way more interesting. There's plenty of "new" stuff in DMC5 but it all feels like the things we should have got in place of DmC many years ago. We should be on DMC6 levels of innovation by now.
Nathaniel Price
Never said my webm does prove my point. All I said was that characters in DMC are only as fun as you want to make them. If you don't want to make him fun, then that's that. He won't be fun.
