I love it!
This party's getting crazy!
it was unbearable.
Pretty much any JRPG.
Cringe = Soul
Prove me wrong. You can't.

Damn it, You totally wrecked my DMC thread! I hope you have enough to cover all this!
>games with terrible writing
>most of them seem to have good gameplay
hmmmmmmm
I honestly can't bring myself to care about the story of a video game unless it's ridiculous and "cringe".
I'll take the story of DMC over a "serious" story like Last of Us, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a genuine faggot.
there isn't a single game with great writing.

THIS PLACE REEKS
Final Fantasy 10.
The only game I've ever played where the story and characters was suffering.
Then it just kicks you in the nuts for the ending.
What a fucking disgrace that game was.
Gameplay was decent though.
Hey hey people
does cringe mean anything anymore?
>You're not Alexander!
>Im not hurt
>My defenses are impregnable
>My style is impetuous
>Nervous?
God Hand is anti-cringe. But OP being a lying faggot is nothing new.
Hey OP, here's an actual example of a game with cringe writing
>cringe writing
>dmc 3
>god hand
>BANG BANG WAHOO
Unbearably great!
It's cringe, but also kino. A daring synthesis that made their story and characters memorable and beloved. Vergil's lines about power and Elvis' friendly banter are cheesy as fuck but they stick with you for a reason. It's all made with heart and soul.
Tales of Vesperia
This post is so backwards it's incredible.
It's cringe if you take it seriously like an unironic autist. Cringe writing is usually grimdark shit or joss whedon tier le humor + dark moments. Not taking yourself seriously and inserting flamboyant black homo's for the fuck of it in your game is completely based.
Literally any JRPG.
You can't have cringe writing if you barely have any writing to begin with.
Retard.
>Sexy! Dead sexy!
no.
Triggered soulflakes ITT
Git gud.
The game is actually an incredibly well executed cosmic horror with extreme veins of Gothic tragedy. Consistent design and themes easily blend from one style to another. There's hardly anything cheesy about it, it's just two very old literary genres translated into a modern medium. Honestly, it does Lovecraftian way better than anything else in any medium claims to be. It has only the most minimal of outright references (the term Great Ones and the design of the Silverbeasts) and the rest of them are their own spin, but recognizable for what they are.
>god hand
>cringe
I know you're just some twitchcunt or reddit idiot, but at least try with some serious bait next time.
a major part of god hands charm in my opinion is the shitty voice acting and writing.
>Confront and kill eldritch beings with a rusty saw and musket
>Well executed cosmic horror
>posts fanfiction
reddit loves God Hand, though.
God hand's voice acting is excellent. They were meant to sound exactly as they do.
Everyone loves God Hand, it's a fucking good game.
This.
Bloodborne takes a lot of Lovecraftian ideas and does its own thing with them while still remaining true to its inspirations and not feeling a like mish mash of references, a feat no one else has really managed to pull off. It pulls in everything from pre-human civilizations and ancient things being inherently alien to us (Pthumeru), to invisible dimensions that lie right beside our own (the Nightmare/cosmos) to the fragility of human identity (beasthood/kinhood), the evils of the past welling up in the modern day (the Hunter's Nightmare, the Research Hall, etc.). And it's all perfectly cohesive. While it isn't strictly traditionally Lovecraftian (would never write a story like Bloodborne, with monster fights and stuff), HPL was autistic enough in his love of horror fiction to appreciate things Bloodborne does outside of its grand narrative. The game employs pretty much every other Lovecraftian trope other than total helplessness in the face of horror (because let's face it, that translates to shit gameplay) really well.
>le old man's strenght
>zombies but actually not
>zero lgbt scenes in the main game
Almost everything that chart is canon, btw. Just a few points aren't true at all.
Honestly who cares?
Video games in general have pretty mediocre writting when compared to books and movies. Even the critically acclaimed ones.
No More Heroes. Couldn't make it past the second boss. Can't believe I spent $60 on that shit and it's where I learned never to trust Yea Forums.
all of them.
games are not intended to be narrative mediums, except VNs and a handful of good point and click adventures
I love bloodborne, but you're right.
Lovecraftian means the reversal of the usual heroic tale. Therefore, a properly Lovecraftian game should impart feelings of insignificance, inferiority, inability to grasp and understand, as well as you not being able to simply overcome everything you face. That doesn't lend itself very well to the standard game formula. If you're looking for it in whatever "tentacles and insanity and water" shit you saw an ad for, you'll never find it. There are some properly Lovecraftian games, but they aren't third person shooters with mystery elements and lots of tentacles.
If you want a proper Lovecraftian game, you play something like Rain World. If you want the low IQ interpretation of what Lovecraftian is, play whatever tentacle and madness sim like Bloodborne.
You actually had me until you said this mess is cohesive, honestly now
Yeah sure, and HotD2 was intentionally bad too.
>It uses every trope of Lovecraft other than the most important trope of Lovecraft
k.
Ignoring the fact that Lovecraft is fundamentally Americana literature which the gothic faux-European setting clashes with; tone and atmosphere are more important for a work being considered 'Lovecraftian' than checking off boxes of different plot elements. Nightmare on Elm Street has literally everything you've mentioned as well but I don't think you'd call that Lovecraftian at all.
>Games with cringe writing
>t. nu-male
I can't think of a single cringe during tlou im pretty sure youre just a big huge faggot
It gets better every generation, 3rd person action games have never been better
i rly wish you fags could just enjoy things
>putting juggle may cry 3 with God Hand and NGB
Let's not
hmm
t. xbot
>I'll take the story of DMC over a "serious" story like Last of Us, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a genuine faggot.
The difference is that last of us is about the story and DMC the gameplay
That's kinda cheating isn't it?
David Cage is honestly kino. All of his games cross the line into 'so bad, it's good' territory.
lmao what? vesperia's entire stoy goes to complete shit after act 1.
>"Maybe somewhere out there even a God Hand when he loses a loved one."
Fucking really, Capcom?
No, I'm not being edgy, take off the nostalgia goggles and stop remembering when you first played it at age 10
>No, I'm not being edgy
I don't know bro, you really are giving me the vibe that you are, like you just want to start arguments.. If you put VIII or IX or XIII and XV I wouldn't think you were trolling
Final Fantasy games have always had poor writing.
You mean fun, down to earth writting. Not soulless shit like naughty dog's
You don't actually kill them, as their consciousness takes form or exist in the other planes of reality. And then you have things like Oedon, which is a formless, omnipresent being that exists only in voice, guiding inadvertent worshippers that surreptitiously seek blood, the essence of Oedon.
But I thought that was one of the reasons people loved 7 so much
Why hasn't Capcom remastered this or remake it? At least a remastered with an aspect ratio that's not 4:3.
God Hand does not have enough commercial appeal to warrant a remake.
What do you guys consider good writing?
Fun to play but good fucking lord the story
Who gives a fuck, it's video games not a book, or movie. It's just there to support the gameplay, not be the main attraction.
Anything by Nabokov.
In vidya? Hard to pick...most of it is honestly cringe
I believe world building and atmosphere are far better for immersion than having a story.
>atmosphere
DMC5's success might give them a clue.
Also, having played it just the other week, 4:3 still works for it although more is always better.
>story
That man always has the greasiest looking hair
This
ironic shitposting is still shitposting
Not just 7, the whole series. It's like fighting games go out of there way to have extra retarded stories
Fighting games don't need story.
Yeah, they shouldn't have them. But they do, and they are garbage
even neogaf loved it which always surprised me
In vidya, No More Heroes 1 and Travis Strikes Again.
Ocarina of Time as well.
I would argue characterization and character development as well.
Literally any game? Kind of a dumb question
