The modern Weakauras is basically the addon addon where you can either make your own addon elements even using Lua (or not if you don't want to), or importing and modifying other people's "addons". It's commonly used for procs, buffs and those kind of combat events as well as a complement to typical boss mods, since you make stuff that's more specific and relevant to you than a general warning.

We already knew Classic WoW would be built off the 7.X client, and thus 7.X addons would work with it (possibly with tweaking). What did people expect? That Blizzard would ban addons?

Weakauras is nothing compared to vanilla addons.
Until 1.6, there were waypoint addons that automatically walked your character to any point you liked, from Booty Bay to EPL.
After 1.6 the movement API was protected but they still left in casting API, so people could e.g. automatically cast dispel when the enemy cast a bad buff or something.

it's good for the raid leader and a few key roles to use it, but once you learn the basics, there's literally no point in using dbm. they haven't come up with any new mechanics since wrath or maybe even tbc. every boss is just the same old random combination of good pool, bad pool, aoe explosion, tank swap, dps phase, healing phase.

actually the most fun I ever had in the game was leveling on an RPPVP server, before they killed server community. I remember questing in Arathi Highlands and this geared up guild showed up and started preparing for a battle. I thought it was gay as fuck but then an alliance guild showed up at the gates of Hammer fall and the horde crushed them. it was pretty cool seeing how much fun they had. saw more cool battles like that later on. RPers suck at the game in general, but at least on an RPPVP server they actually have (had) an interest in using their characters for something other than ERP.

Every private server guild I've been in had a healthy mix of 35+ boomers and teenagers. Most guilds had more young people since the guilds i played went out of their way to recruit older or more "mature" players.

A lot of people in this thread are saying shit like "addons are a crutch" or "you shouldn't need blinking lights telling you what to do", etc. which is missing the point of weakauras.

There are meme images of people's screens cluttered with addons but weakauras lets you adjust your UI to look a lot nicer and be more usable. In the default classic UI, your character portrait is in the top left and your abilities are on the bottom and/or right of your screen. GRANTED, you don't need to be aware of your positioning in raids nearly as much as you do in modern WoW but it still doesn't make sense for you to be looking all over the screen to be able to quickly see all the information available to you.

On a side note, for all the people who swear off addons, what about threatmeters like Omen? Threat values are essentially not available without an addon.

gold farm spam was still bad during vanilla, and one of the only reasons it's slow these days is because blizzard sells gold. the option to buy tokens is not available on classic, so don't be surprised when a wave of chinamen show up.

The macro system is what BFA uses, not private servers.
So that's good in that macros are far easier to write, bad if you're trying to automate some things.
You do not need an all-in-one rogue macro nor is it advised but I suspect you already knew that.
