it's something a zoomer like you wouldn't be able to understand

Play the games? Cause you clearly haven't.

The cutscenes give context.

keep telling yourself that, faggot

Splinter Cell has better stealth

I never considered it that. Nor do I think anyone who likes the stealth genre considers that to be true.

Probably some journalist. But, seriously, do you think what some IGN writer wrote about MGS has any weight? You'd get a truer opinion out of an any user, even one who replies to this post and says I'm a completely dumb faggot and MGS is the best stealth series. At least he probably played MGS and other games to compare it to.

MGS just has a following because the stealth gameplay from 1 is arcadey and it was the first game to try to be movie. Which if you've been paying attention is the path the industry has gone since the advent of 3d adventures.

splinter cell is linear garbage

And MGS isn't?

>Tactical Espionage ACTION

what did OP mean by this?

You're a real egotistical woman

Finna start MGS1.

Playing from my PS2 with component cables.

What should I know bros??

FPBP, based, and redpilled.

>Half of your time is spent in unavoidable action sequences and watching cutscenes
[citation needed].
I spent 3 hours lurking after The End alone.
Only MGS2 and 4 have like 40:60 cutscenes-to-gameplay ratio, meaning even they got more hands-on gaming than FMVs.

You better not be playing the PAL version

Only thing you really need to know is that Big Boss was the big bad guy in the original Metal Gear games

Read the "Previous missions" files on MG1 and 2, and then watch the "Briefing files" videos. Both are in the Main Menu.
Then, before jumping to the main campaign, try some VR Training to learn the basics safely.

Besides those, they're quite straightforward games.
I'd recommend spamming the Codec everywhere and any time you get / see something new.

MGS is more movie than game.

play the VR missions to practice

The biggest hurdle to enjoying MGS1 is the controls. If you master them, the game is super easy aside from the sniper sections in my experience. If you go straight in and fail a bunch of times you'll probably think the game sucks dick and has unusable controls.

It's my favourite game of all time and I only played it for the first time like 5 years ago maybe in my early 20s.

Thief isn't stealth, it got spiders and zombie shit

>Widely considered the best stealth series of all time
Only by cocksucking kojimaboos. The series barely even qualifies as stealth.

pretty much every time you enter a new room, or pick up a new weapon or something, there'll be new codec conversations. the game is full of soul when you take your time to talk to everyone.

also, the codec number for Meryl is literally on the back of the game CD case, you'll have to look it up when told to check the back of the CD case.

Burgerstani version.
Alright will do.
I always liked how "back in the day" every control scheme was radically different.

Thanks I'm finna start right now. Sucks I'm about 2 decades late to this party.

>Widely considered the best stealth series of all time
says fucking who

8 hours of cinematics/3 hours of gameplay

Yea Forums

You people are stupid, if you watched that video you would see its filled with gameplay it's not only cutscenes

>I always liked how "back in the day" every control scheme was radically different.
Same.
Applied to visual styles as well. Two seemingly similar games could truly feel all different.
>Sucks I'm about 2 decades late to this party.
It's never too late to experience the TRUE, ever-green classics like this.
In fact, I've been practically doing nothing but hunting down big mega-hits of the yesteryears during this whole decade, as the new mainstream offerings have been mostly ''meh'' at best.

But it isn't. Not at all.

The cutscenes are too fucking frequent and long.

At the time, making a game that had this kind of movie-like experience was genuinely impressive, the graphics and presentation were off the charts.
>youtu.be/cq6L1HV5gz4
The trailer really hyped up the game, I still have the trailer for the substance version on a demo disc.
But in retrospect, games like thief and splinter cell had much better stealth and more of a single focus, and that made them more niche.
Thief especially for being PC exclusive, there's just no way it would run in a console in 98, the levels were huge.
I think thief was just as innovative as mgs was, but sadly thief remained in the shadow of mgs.

>But it isn't. Not at all.
But it is. Literaly.

>The cutscenes are too fucking frequent and long.
No.

Thief was a lot more innovative than MGS, as far as game designed is concerned. Hell, Thief was probably the most innovative game released in '98.

I'll agree that they are overly long.

Nigga you can't even spell literally.

After playing it for myself, I can confirm that "MGS is a MG2 remake" is, indeed, not a meme.

>But it isn't.
It is, though.

Was there even a doubt of that?

Could've been exagerations, but no.

>too frequent
At the beginning, and at the end sure but in the middle MGS3 is fine.
>too long
Some of them sure but plenty of cutscenes are quick to the point. The end of game cutscens are just info dumps but the game is over so enjoy the story.

>The first 3 MGS games all ahead of Deus Ex
This board has terminally shit taste, you kojimadrones need to neck yourselves. That entire list is full of shit taste, though.

It's a good stealth game because it hides the stealth gameplay behind cutscenes.
