3-2 is my favorite case.
Does 1-5 count? It's basically a DLC case
No because 2-4 is objectively the best
6-3 actually one of my favorites in the entire series. Felt like the only case that actually hammered home the idea of Khura'in as as nation in turmoil while showing how it can impact individuals.
The story structure really works against other cases being as impactful. Every game has the babbymode 1st case and the filler 3rd case, so that's two usually taken out of the running.
That said, 3-2 was great
How did he end up with the hottest wife in the entire series?
For me I guess it would be AA5. It's been a while since I've played it but I didn't feel the same excitement from the final case as I did for 5-2, 5-3, or even the DLC one.
2-4 is the last case in JFA.
Anyway OP it's kind of cheating as all of the ace attorney games usually have the cases beforehand lead up to the last case and the last case being the finale payoff. Even AAI1 does this and the cases are only loosely connected.
It doesn't help that the earlier cases can be really trivial. As much as I like 4-1 it really doesn't make you think all that much
The best case in 4 is the first one.
Don't know if 1-5 counts but GK2-3 is fantastic
youtube.com
4 was the last case in the game's original release. 5 was added to the DS to use the DS features and set up AJ.
Are 5-5 and 4-4 the most divisive final cases? If so, which do you guys prefer?
How is 5-5 divisive? How the fuck would anyone suggest 4-4 is better?
naruhodou is a trash ace attorney game
reading comprehension is on point
Fuck, got my numbers switched.
I have a headache, leave me alone
Same here.
This is my least favorite case in the series.
Hi
My favorite case in the series is 6-3 because it gives Rayfa a lot of screen time as an assistant and she is my favorite character
BUT YOU WANTED TO PLAY IT SO BADLY. SUCH A FAIRWEATHER FAGGOT.
I didn't like 6's final case much at all so I enjoyed 6-2, 6-3 and even 6-4 to it.
The highlight of final cases for me is always all the fun dialogue the cast gets in investigation sequences, usually everyone shows up and interacts with each other.
This is true, unfortunately the fourth case completely shits on it so it turns out that there are no good cases in AJ.
I2-3, 3-2, 4-1, 6-2, and Golden Court are the best cases of their games.
I mean, they're usually the best case in the game so no surprise there.
4-4 is an exception because 4-1 is much better.
I like 6-3 over 6-5 but they're both good.
And the spinoffs in general kinda sway from this
In AAI the clear best case is AAI-4 (5 is good but a bit bloated)
In AAI2 all the cases are fucking amazing but I'd say the best one is AAI2-3.
In PLvsPW the best case is Golden Court because Layton shuts up for once.
>Is there anyone whose favorite case isn't a last case in the game?
Bitch, please.
2-2 is so fucking underrated
JfA doesn't deserve the hate. Yeah it's the weakest trilogy game. Still one of the best games.
I love the cozy atmosphere in cases like this. 3-5, 4-2 and 5-2 had it as well. Thought the entirety of AA6 was going to be like that but it wasn't really.
DGS2 TRANSLATION FUCKING WHEN
As much as I love 1-5, why is it so fucking long compared to the rest of the cases in the first game. It's literally twice as long as 1-4.
I can’t be the only one who liked Turnabout Samurai, right?
1-5 isn't the true last case in the game. It's more like 5-DLC and 6-DLC. An extra case.
I wouldn't say it's god tier, but 2-2 is definitely one of my personal favorites.
I liked it but it suffers from the weird and overly specific checkpointing AA1 had (dunno if that's the right word for it, I mean how you had to navigate and progress the case forwards was often cumbersome - for some reason 4-3 had this exact same issue). It basically defined the sort of characters Maya, Gumshoe and Edgeworth would be for the rest of the main series so it's hard to dislike I feel.
2-2 get's overshadowed by this case which is such a monumental note to end on.
Someone post the husbando tier list
We can all agree scars etched by flame is the best Reminiscence theme right?
Speaking of which because of 2-2 and 2-4 JfA is my favorite out of the entire series so far.
Yeah this and 2-3 feel like it have very random and specific event flags "oh I guess having this conversation here means I now gotta move around again and find the place where new thing happens"
DDs adding of notes was a great improvement in my opinion to relieve this issue a bit.
Well yeah, any case would get overshadowed by the literal best case in the entire series.
Definitely a bop and probably in my top 3, but my favourites gotta be either Scenery on Dusky Bridge because I think it sounds by far the saddest (tho ofc its assocation with that case helps) or The Bitter Taste of Truth because it has all the fucking implications and weight behind it. It just sounds so utterly full of pure regret and bitterness. T&T fucking nailed it with the soundtrack.
I didn't particularly like rise from the ashes. I was surprised when I found out it was thought of as one of the best.
Some things I would shuffle around but overall good taste user
1-4 is the real final case of that game, 1-5 is a DLC addon
Shut the fuck up and talk about cases that aren’t final
I swear I can almost recognize anons by their lists
Not quite, but hey
>want more Apollo with Trucy
>want more Phoenix with Rayfa
>neither of those things can happen anymore
AAbros pls tell me is the crossover with Layton worth a playthrough?
I've been eyeballing it for a while now and I really wanna know since I'm almost done with Spirit of Justice.
It's worth playing, yeah
Moe is really the best character in 2-3. I found his unfunny jokes funny because they were so bad.
When he confessed to knowing that he wasn't funny, I thought that was funny. Depressed clowns are inherently hilarious to me for some reason.
It's alright. Really nothing special and it has a true Layton ending but it's fun to play. Should know Layton kinda steals the show though.
Moe is the heart of 2-3. Great guy.
I-I thought I was the only one...
This was the first case that came to mind. One of the only cases that legitimately made me feel bad for the characters involved. Not to mention it has one of the most memorable plot twists in the trilogy.
Okay lads, I’ve never played any of these games but I think it’s time.
Just emulate the DS version of the first game, yeah?
Top tier taste. I want to add 3-4 as well
Yes
are the steam ports any good?
Is it more AA than Layton? Please say yes.
>Should know Layton kinda steals the show though.
Narrative wise or gameplay wise?
Based. "Ini" is probably my favorite character in the franchise.
That's what most people do, yeah
It has 'updated' graphics that look a bit wonky at times but overall it's fine
Nope, it's way more Layton than AA
Yes, that's the way to go. If you want to be future-proof you can get a cheap second-hand 2DS and hack it (it's easy now) to be able to play everything on one console.
That said, if you don't know if you'll like it yet, just start with emulating. It emulated very well on phones too if you want that portable experience.
This is pretty bullshit. Layton sits out for half the game. Yes he's an overpowered character in every sense, but the puzzle and court segments are very balanced.
Narrative wise. The gameplay is pretty evenly mixed between the two franchises iirc but Layton just one-ups Phoenix a lot in intellect.
Yeah, that's the way to go. The og sprites have more frames and are more animated than the "hd" sprites.
Even the games of the series that are considered mediocre still have amazing last cases so I really doubt it.
Ahhh yes. Hearing this brings back frustration with the case and emotion from the reveals. Original trilogy OST was amazing.
>Layton just one-ups Phoenix a lot in intellect
Wouldn't have it any other way honestly. Phoenix is our lovable idiot that is competent when it counts. The bumbling idiot is more Larry's territory.
Good to know.
The one thing I really liked from PLvsPW:AA was the multi witness testimony thing. It was a very well implemented gimmick, one of the best honestly. Having to play around how some witnesses affect the reactions of others and stuff, it was great.
>Weakest of the trilogy
>Farewell, my Turnabout is literally the best case in the Franchise
2-4 is the best case yeah but first game has a stronger overall narrative which makes it better, and T&T has probably the best overall average for cases.
Still love JFA tho thanks to 2-2 and 2-4 like you said is the best.
This
AA2 and DD have great final cases (bar the phantom stupidity)
Ironically enough both of them had bad endings, AA2 being the first one to do it in the series and AAI2, DD and SoJ all having them
DD bad endings are fucked up, Aura KILLS Athena in one of them
I got you, user
But seriously, why was the phantom so bad at his job?
Despite this still being the last case in the game it's still the black sheep game in the franchise.
I didn't take to Apollo well and didn't like the game itself until I reached that one flashback.
>screen in sepia or black and white and music kicks in
youtu.be
But the Phantom wasn't there to steal the moon rock
On paper, Apollo's story should easily be the best in the franchise but the ending is so bad it fucks the whole thing
I went through and watched the breakdowns of all the characters.
I think one of the best things about the switch to 3D is how dynamic and crazy the breakdowns got. I still think my favorite breaking down is the Phantom. The whole stuff with the masks would've been enough but then that gunshot. That was intense.
With a few changes, this case probably could've been a finale case. Especially considering how it sets up all the Fey family history that's used in the next game.
The Space Station Commander dude and Rhymes both have amazing breakdowns as well. Wouldn't have been possible with the sprites, tho I still prefer them for most. Don't like how plastic the characters look in certain expressions. Like Phoenix' "oh shit face". His mouth looks so weird in the 3d model. Really plastic.
I mean, even the start of it is pretty shaky
Him ending up being the assistant of Kristoph of all the people, the dude who gets involved with Zak who Apollo is also connected to, by sheer chance is a hell of a coincidence to just accept
Phoenix's and Athena's backstories aren't great either but they really never got Apollo's one right I feel
Trucy is gay.
Prove me wrong.
It come off bad because they tried to end on a somber/positive note and my PW series is supposed to hit me in the feels and make me question my morality. So I didn't like it. As a fan though it was worth they play through and I got some gems out of it. Thank God they expanded on Apollo's backstory in SoJ. He's way more tolerable as a character and I actually respect him now. Plus he and Trucy are becoming super cute.
It could have but I'd rather it be the way it is since it leads to more channeling lore in later games.
It's fun diving into the mystery of the Gramarye but the problem is that it's of no relevance to the case in the present
I want to fuck dragondad
Gay for Apollo maybe.
Bi at least.
Trucy LOVES Apollo's DICK
The best thing SoJ did was get Apollo's boring ass out of the office. Either develop Athena or go back to Phoenix in AA7
He's so cool he made Apollo cool by proxy.
Nah. She could grow up to be a carpetmuncher maybe.
She can't be! Athena found something that only bad girls would keep in their bags!
I still wanted Apollo to take over the office and Phoenix to set up shop in Khurain personally.
I adore my weeaboo samurai boi
He was the best thing about Dual Destinies, I was so glad to see him come back in 6-4
>He will never star in AAI3
Definitely. Prior to the game's release everyone was worried about him as he just seemed like some turbocringe edgelord "nothing personnel kid" character. But the way he ended up, especially in the translation, just made him both a great character and absolutely hilarious. Best prosecutor since Edgeworth.
I've never played any of these before, is the trilogy on steam a good place to start?
Thx user
Yeah go for it dude. Games should be played in order so trilogy is the right place to start.
>Barnham will never return
Goddammit. He's one of the best prosecutors in the series, shame he's forever stuck in the crossover.
youtube.com
Was going to post that comic lel
He's such a cool concept and I was genuinely like "Holy shit!" when it was revealed that he was real, but poor case logic. I liked the dumb "face your fears" part but the buildup and painting of the phantom as suddenly being bad at lieing even though it's his job is awful.
BURN EM
BURN EM
BURN EM
Have Edgeworth be the main character but Blackquill is assistant for a couple investigations. Make Franzika come back with Gumshoe who is an INTERPOL detective for her. Make the plot about brining down the organization that hired the phantom.
Plot twist: Kay works for them
Competent as fuck
Has moral integrity without being a pushover
Genuinely funny
It's even fun watching him BTFO Edgeworth during 5-5. He's got it all
His role in the Soba noodles case was pure kino.
And he actually has a great grasp of what's needed to be a great defense attorney
>Um it's called SAKE you philistine
comedy kino
It's clearly the best one when you first experience it.
I'm a sick fuck and thought that case was best when you actually had Phoenix doing sneaky lawyer bullshit to fight for a guilty man but it got derailed when you get to DeKiller on the radio
That's part of why 1-5 is my favorite AA case. Phoenix uses sneaky lawyer bullshit to actually win
The mind games.
Intimidation.
All psychology tricks in the purest form.
A man of mature and exquisite taste.
1-2 is one of my favorites. The writing is super on point when it comes to humor; it feels like it takes place in the real world because the settings and characters are all pretty mundane instead of the wacky Scooby Doo shit of the later games and cases; it's the only case in the game where Edgeworth is a legitimate threat and also a huge douchebag; the best side-character in the game plays a significant role; there's minimal supernatural shit; and the villain is really detestable.
4-1 is also fantastic and unironically in my top 5 cases. 1-4 is probably my favorite case in the series too though it's technically a 'last case of a game' so I guess it doesn't count.
I was referring to the pep talk he gives Athena on not giving up on Bucky
That's cool user and I'm really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but the culprit for 6-2 has the best breakdown of all time. OF ALL TIME.
Not quite
>there's minimal supernatural shit
>case literally ends with a mia ex machina
2-4 is NOT the best case in the franchise. It's great when you enjoy the spectacle of it the first time through but the localization is literal trash. Not just for things like typos but the dialogue is really stilted an unnatural.
even if you ignore that. 1-4 and 3-5 are better cases
Yeah, 6-5 was worse than it should have been. The first part with the cave shit drags out more than it should and it just doesn’t feel that there’s much at stake there, while the second part feels like it’s designed around delivering plot whammys instead of providing a good mystery to solve. Especially the last part with the Queen is disappointing, while it is supposed to be high tension, there’s nothing like the tension of 1-4, 2-4 or 3-4.
>Dante and Klavier both have completely blameless brothers who did nothing wrong
When will Capcom let us play as the real heroes for once?
The monstrous turnabout had sick characters thought, that qt was nice and the mayor himself was pretty funny
Compared to 1-4 where supernatural shit is part of the actual court proceedings, 2-2, 2-4, 3-3, and 3-5? Yeah there's basically 0 supernatural shit.
2-4 is just an absolute hypefest the first time through, it has superhigh stakes from the beginning and then it only becomes more when the twist of Engarde hits. And the moral dilemma from that twist just elevates it to become the best case in the series because the tension between the choices phoenix has just doesn't let up for the rest of the case.
Good opinion. I wish an Ace Attorney game could exploit the dark age of the law but really
Everything 2-4 does is done better in 3-5 EXCEPT for Engarde. The high stakes are immediately apparent in that as well, and the tension never lets up. There's also a much greater sense of mystery around what actually happened.
Is maggey ever going to come back? When is she finally going to be married to gumshoe?
After Phoenix marries Franziska
>TFW Gumshoe will never return happily a police chief and/or retired and married to Maggey
I so much want to see police chief Gumshoe who has finally got things in order, yet still gets pushed around by Chief Prosecutor Edgeworth.
Adapt Ace Attorney into a full-fledged console game.
Pro tip: you can't
Holmes is a riot
3-5 is fucking amazing and very close, but I slightly prefer 2-4. They are the top 2 though, agreed. 3-5 has much more emotional payoff for the entire trilogy, but I think the mystery/story being more convoluted kind of hurts it actually. And 2-4 is much more tense all the way through. It just tows the line so well, just think of the moment with the cat. You are constantly trying to save Maya, even in the investigation segments.
If he can break people down of course he can give a damn good speech to build them up.
I liked this case a lot but it was a bit too long and really fucks with the canon of edgeworths situation in the 2nd game
>designed around delivering plot whammys instead of providing a good mystery to solve
This nails it. While other final cases are slowly constructed like a jigsaw puzzle, 6-5 just slams your head with big tweests while only giving some very easy and small lawyering parts to worry about. Not a good formula, feels too railroaded and VN-ish in a bad way.
She’s so fucking cute
Ace Attorney 7 is going to be exactly that
also it's going to be using that hyper-realistic RE engine
I’m on the last case of the 2nd game now and I gotta admit I liked the 1st game a bit better. Is the 3rd game pretty good? Franziska and Pearl are cool tho
3rd game is consensus best game or second best game (contender is the second game from the Edgeworth spinoff)
So yeah
I was actually thinking the other day that AA7 should be an actual 3-D game where you can walk around crime scenes freely and all the locales are interconnected in some way (with obvious cuts between large transitions, like leaving the office to the Detention Center.) You could also use the gyroscopes on the Switch to control things like cameras, puzzles to antique boxes/locks, etc.
trucyis cute and funny
Ka-Donk!
What’s the best way to play the 2nd Edgeworth game? I don’t speak Japanese and doubt my pc could run any ds games very well. I don’t really wanna play it on pc anyway because I don’t game on pc really. Is there no way to play the English rom on 3ds?
Ema comes back later? Cool. Too bad she’s not a loli anymore
M rating here we go again
Totally normal. Justice For All is considered one of the weaker of the series, but Trials & Tribulations is considered one of the best
I want the joycons to allow me to point my finger to raise an OBJECTION
Godot did nothing wrong
Hot AF
No clue for your personal problems. I played it on PC with the fan translation. If I didn't know it wasn't official I wouldn't have noticed because it's fucking amazing.
My PC is from 2011, DS games are not hard to run.
I'd stay outta AA threads lest you wish to be spoiled.
Godot did lots of things wrong and he admits this. Because of his desire for revenge, Misty is dead.
That’s normal, JFA is generally regarded as the worst one in the trilogy except for the excellent final case. The first game is far more even, and with 1-5 included it also has multiple top-tier cases to solve.
Would it run alright on a dell inspiron laptop from like 2008? That’s what I’m working with
Yeah I’m boutta bounce and go play some more of the trilogy
Not 100% sure but probably. Just run No$GBA and try it.
>When the mastermind is a genuinely likeable person who was dealt a bum hand in life and their only "crimes" are rebelling against the abusive authorities who are above being tried by conventional laws
It's not fair. It didn't need to end this way.
I'm still mad Godot literally was never brought up until the third game and then dropped off the face of the earth, like god damn there should have been more build up before his gigantic pile of shit. Then its dropped off the face of the earth with phoenix not taking jack or shit too heart cause his dumb ass got disbarred for using shit evidence.
I2-4 was fantastic all the way to the end
I mean, his story lives and dies with Mia. There's no real reason to bring him up otherwise.
based
yes but he could have easily been brought up through the entire original trilogy.
Also Mia not showing up once in SoJ was completely criminal.
Would the anime dare to adapt AA4? I feel like the things it does would be received even worse as a show than a game.
3-2, 5-DLC, AAI1-2 and DGS1-3 are the best cases in their respective entries, but other than that, yeah usually the last case is the high point.
>tfw Phoenix and Maya will never have a kid that will become Apollo's assistant
3-2 is in my top 5, but not my favorite. Luke Atmey is my favorite minor villain, though, and Ron Delite is probably my favorite minor defendant too.
>5's DLC
>Not liking last mainline case of 5
>Not enjoying the massive clusterfuck that is the worlds most inept spy.
It's probably the most mind blowing twist in the series. I shit my pants at the ending. Overall case is good but not on the same level as 1-4, 1-5, 2-4, or 3-5.
hey now, he'd basically gotten away with it for 7 years, that's not too bad
No, he couldn't. AA1 was made without any sequels in mind, and AA2 barely had any time establishing anything past Kurain. Him being contained in just one game is fine, he never really affected anything outside it anyway. At best you could've had Grossberg say "THAT REMINDS ME OF A COFFEE-DRINKING STUDENT I HAD ONCE"
1-5 and 2-4 both have one thing in common, which really makes both cases great. Edgeworth/Wright working together to bring justice is literally god tier in both cases.
apollo justice gets shit on pretty hard but i thought the first case started things off pretty strong until it went downhill with turnabout serenade
Phoenix marries Iris though
Wait till you get to trial day 2 of 2-4. You'll see why everyone loves it.
3 is literally GOD tier story telling. The first case gets you immediately with the premise and the rest of the cases are fucking all good. I strongly recommend not giving up.
Phoenix deserves Maya and no one else
Hey, would you like to watch that video again?
Best song? My favorite is Logic and Trick
youtube.com
Your filename is wrong. Please fix it.
I really like Tyrell's theme. Letting it play a few times everytime it came up probably added a few hours to my completion time.
youtube.com
yeah, rhoda got the shaft
she wishes
Cases became a two day maximum after the first game, so I guess the devs wanted to make their last three day case count.
If anyone likes Big Top Turnabout you should literally fucking kill yourself right now.
>The Judge getting legitimately angry and yelling at Moe for being a manchild
If you don't think Turnabout Big Top was Turnabout Kino then get out.
Why don't you go shove his big red nose up your ass you double faggot
Dude the Judge getting pissed as FUCK at Tigre in the last trial of 3-3 is legitimately amazing. He lets a lot of shit slide in his courtroom but when he gets mad he gets MAD.
is it alright to watch the anime when you haven't finished the games yet but are currently playing them and on the second one?
I don't dislike 5-5 but I still like 5-DLC more personally.
In general the anime works as a fantastic supplement after you have finished the trilogy. It does most things worse than the games though so it shouldn't be your first exposure to the cases as it ruins the twists; but it has a few small details that are excellent.
Short answer: play the games first.
She's too normal, Phoenix is a disturbed masochist (why else would he be a Defense Attorney even) and needs something freakier in his life
Thanks
I've been enjoying them a lot so far so no problem finishing them first here.
(Just wanted to scratch my new Ace Attorney itch in as many ways as possible, but waiting us no big dealm)
Someone sell these to me, I have never touched one and all i know is your a lawyer, what the hell is the actuall gameplay?
witness says something, you have evidence, when you see them contradicting the evidence you nab them
By being a genuinely good dude.
Plus he threw himself at armed robbers to save her. Even in real life, you'd get your bone jumped regardless of what you look like or how much money you have. Even if the woman in question was already married and faithful, she'd probably find a friend to set you up with.
Other people talk
You tell them to shut the fuck up and why they're lyin'
Other people talk shit. You get hit.
You go around talking to people and searching crime scenes for evidence to prove your defendants innocence. A lot of the cases are connected in games long story arcs and it feels absolutely incredible when you turn the tables on the prosecution with key pieces of evidence as the music changes
>Mr "fuck you lawyer and your job, just move on you piece of shit"
>quality
It's a hard knock life boys
Honestly you're basically a detective in these games, just with the power to argue with people in court too.
this streamer beat the entirety of AA1 blind without getting a single penalty. I'm suspicious and feel like a brainlet.
>The yatagarasu and little thief were made by this group
Kino
Literally some of the best story telling in video games.
What's the best build and settings for Citra to play the 3DS versions of 4-6?
Where the FUCK did he go?
since its scientifically proven who best girl is
the question is who is the second best girl?
bonus round how do they make so many good girls?? throw away girls have more character and style than some MCs in other games
>Gumshoe working for Interpol
I can't see it to be honest
he's gotta always be that dude down at the precinct
Why doesn't Phoenix work for them? He does work in Europe, him meeting Athena in Europe will probably be turned into a flashback case eventually, and now the stuff in Khurain, he's doing the sort of stuff Fran does now
I don't mind Ema but she's honestly my least favorite detective in the series
Yeah my favorite one is the candy case with the guy frozen in ice
I'm so happy DD and SoJ is on sale right now, I just finished Apollo Justice and I was afraid of putting away the series for a while.
i liked her grumpy more than in SOJ it just seemed she wasn't suppose to be the detective
5-3 is shit?
I think its good
Robin a cute! A CUTE!
I loved it. DD is actually my 2nd favorite game in the series, maybe first. Robin a best girl
try again
That's not Iris in the photo. Also, Iris is looking at several decades of jail time.
>really fucks with the canon of edgeworths situation in the 2nd game
No, it doesn't. You see Edgeworth's "suicide note" in the credits
Rayfa is cute!
Yea Forums is filled with too many brainlets to appreciate the brilliant satire in 5-3
I heard Jinxie's lines in my head with the voice of Nika Futterman.
You posted literally the worst girl in the series, maybe gaming in general
>Go into SoJ wanting to like Rayfa
>She's a cunt
>"Alright they're gonna make her likeable towards the end I guess"
>Finish
>She's still a cunt and even Sadmonk is better
Sauce
The crossover may have been mediocre but damn did it have a fucking great soundtrack.
youtube.com
reverse psychology so i post more?
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH
How the fuck is she not fat due to her Snackoo addiction?
It had the same problem the rest of DD had where the crimes were retarded elaborate, not believable and were paced badly
she is very uh active
*ka-tonk*
>where the crimes were retarded elaborate
That's Yamazaki in general, but I don't have a problem with it
What do you mean? I remember the butler guy finding a note or something. But in the 2nd game everyone acts like he quit after 1-4 and doesn’t bring up 1-5. I could be wrong though because I haven’t finished the 2nd game yet..
>I remember the butler guy finding a note or something
Yes, that was the "Miles Edgworth chooses death letter"
see
1-5 is an add-on to the story that shows Miles Edgeworth being pushed over the edge upon realizing he convicted a man with forged evidence. It's his personal equivalent to what 2-4 was for Phoenix
At least as far as Spirit of Justice is concerned, that case with Simon as your assistant was my favorite. He just bullied Athena so much and it was perfect.
when big top and steel samurai exist?
What?
>I remember the butler guy finding a note or something. But in the 2nd game everyone acts like he quit after 1-4 and doesn’t bring up 1-5.
You got it mixed. 1-5 doesn't really mess with his suicide note, even if 1-4 ends with him doubting himself as a prosecutor, is 1-5 the case that actually wounds him because of him finding out he was given and used forged evidence without his knowledge. In the second game Phoenix doesn't even want to hear Edgeworth's name and hates him for killing himself after the first game and even after he returns, he still resents him because he thought Miles still cared only about his perfect record, that until they team up during the final case and he finds out what he had been doing while out of the country.
Just finished the big top chapter in JFA. Got kinda lost at the end. What exactly happened with the whole situation about Gumshoe searching Acro’s room and why was Franziska so angry and calling herself an idiot at the end?
What exactly is bad about those cases? I’m a newfag to this series and upon recently playing them I found them enjoyable.
>he doesn't know about the VD-8 case
Acro had no time to hide the murder weapon because Franziska ordered a surprise search in his room, so the only place he could have used to hide the statue was under his chair. Acro praises both Phoenix and Franziska for teaming up to bring him down, even if that was never her intention so that ends wounding her pride for losing a second time.
Steel Samurai's map is a slog to travel through, Big Top is the same, except you have to present very strange and uncalled things to advance the story, such as profiles.
Also, the music.
Also, the circus setting.
A cross-examination where you get punished for pressing is where I get pissy.
Also, am I really supposed to feel sorry for a guy who tried to murder an autistic girl?
Ahhh I understand now. Was Edgeworth the one who told Gumshoe to do the search in order to help Wright? That’s what I gathered from that last scene
Fair enough points I suppose. Still was kinda fun the first time around but I don’t think I would ever wanna play big top again
I think Edgeworth was only curious about Wright's development during his cases. Franziska was more in a hurry of finding decisive evidence so when she found out about a new witness she went to gather clues as soon as possible while taking him away as a witness on the spot, just because she was desperate to defeat Wright.
Agreed. The used the gag several time of a character pretending to be dumb or someone else, but this one of the most successful examples.
The art sucks. The games deserve better. I would pay $70 for AA trilogy with real illustrations.
>Also, the circus setting.
What was bad about the setting?
I remember first figuring out the twist and I was pretty impressed with it. It's a decent story with a sad culprit too. Good stuff. An underrated case, for sure.
She was ok in rise from the ashes. It was a cute parallel to Mia and Maya and the story was good. But goddamn did they write her as a stupid idiot in Apollo Justice. She has almost no character other than being a shittier Gumshoe.
Anyone else think Maggey was stupid in 2-1, but actually great in 3-3?
Maybe it's just the uniform
Will we see Franny again?
She's fine in both cases, just an unlucky girl wishing for something good to happen in her life. I actually find it really shitty she lost her job as a cop because of the first case but at least Gumshoe still looks after her.
Were they lezzin'?
Oh Holy Mother of the spirit world, Apollo can you fucking stop attracting all these girls
We get it, your a fucking alpha, now stop, Klavier is committing suicide over here. The fact that your attracting even Aura is going too far
1-2 is a really good case for what it is.
>Your mentor has just died
>The suspect is her sister.
>There is no other lawyer to help because they cannot go against Redd White.
>The only person who can defend her is you, the rookie
>The entire reason you can defend her is because you're a rookie, someone Redd White didn't even consider
>Up against Edgeworth an unbeatable prosecutor and legend of the courtroom
>Everyone is pretty much against you, Gumshoe isn't your friend. Edgeworth isn't going to go easy on you
>No one is on your side, Maya is in jail, Mia is dead, the closest thing to a friend you have is the Bellboy
>Get to the first trial, have no idea what you're doing
>Press as much as you can
>Eventually get lucky and get an extra day to work out who did it
>Everything leads up to Redd White
>Confrontation has you punched in the stomach and accused of being the killer
>You're arrested and have to defend yourself in court
>Prove Redd White fucking did it in the final day
People only hate it because Mia solved the fucking thing for you and she didn't even solve it, she read out a list of names and just said "admit to what we've already established or this list goes to the police"
I love the first game because of these kind of cases, the first game is really lonely and oppressive when you think about it. You're always surrounded by cold environments and nobody wants to help you or knows who you are. In SoJ you have so many wacky friends and so much experience each case feels like you know you're going to win, whereas in the first game you didn't even know if you could make it to the next day.
Hell, even the music gives off a vibe of isolation, desperation and having no idea what you're doing. The first game has my favourite OST because of this, Opening 2001 is just so lonely and feels like you're just wandering aimlessly, and the cross examination theme is perfect for this as well, but a lot more tension is involved.
Mia really fucked up. She easily could have gotten out of that situation alive. White didn't even take her by surprise because he announced his presence and had a conversation first, that ends with him saying he's going to kill her. She could have kicked him in the balls and ran so simply.
It’s hard to separate a case that is story dependent as it’s own individual case
1-2 is great because of it but at the same time was mediocre as a case by itself
This image makes me wonder, will we ever get a case where a name written in blood actually leads to the true culprit? At this point everyone in the games should be aware that it's always a fake evidence.
Yes obv. AAs dependent nature made her an easy target
>Played the first game up until the DLC mission, got stuck and haven’t touched it in years
>can barely remember anything in the first game anyway
>not sure if I should reset or just reset this DLC case or what
>do nothing
Don't forget Updated autopsy report
3-1 and 3-4 I thought did that well. Yeah they were setup for 3-5 but both cases individually were actually great
Where can I get DGS on my phone?
>having fun playing Ace Attorney
>game is a bit too easy though
>get to this case
>"SHOW ME THE EVIDENCE IN THE VIDEO"
>what the fuck is going on
>have to save scum
>feel like a 50 IQ smooth-brain
Guess I'm done with the series. It was fun while it lasted. I guess I'll have to pick up a more appropriate series for someone of my brain power like gacha shit or F*rtnite
Technically 4-3 where Le Tucce wrote his code name was actual evidence instead of tampering
That case made everybody retarded, don’t worry
you don’t have to worry about video bullshit until the 4th game and it’s still not as bullshit as the DLC case
>but at the same time was mediocre as a case by itself
It was the second case of the first game in the whole series, it still did a great job especially when you consider it made us jump from an intro case where the culprit was a common house thief to a CEO who had pretty much the whole judicial system eating from his hand. As this user said what truly mattered were the stakes at risk and how the whole world was against Wright considering it was his second case in his whole career,
I’m sure everyone had trouble with a case or had to use a guide at one point user. You’re not dumb! I had trouble with that part too!
Rise from the Ashes is long but worth it. The final trial day is immensely satisfying.
Also keep playing the trilogy. The second game gets a bad rap but 2 out of the 4 cases are excellent. The 3rd game is literally on another level. Just keep playing bro
Post more Ema plz
3-5 and 6-5 are the best cases.
AAI2-5 was okay I guess, but Simon kinda sucks as a final boss and it's very unbelievable that he could be the mastermind, I can't even remember his motive. AAI-5 was better, if only because it had a better villain.
Good post user
>I love the first game because of these kind of cases, the first game is really lonely and oppressive when you think about it.
I agree. The story of a rookie thrown into professional water with sharks is compelling even in a comical presentation. The reveal of his motivating idealism in contrast to the cynical prosecutor was also really nicely done.
What's weird is how absent that feeling was from Apollo Justice, even with moodier music. Apollo lacked competence but it never seemed to inspire any drama outside the issue of his own confidence or some soap opera family shit.
11037
5-4 and 5-5 should have been one case
The second game probably had the most BS, in my opinion. Too many "Instant failures" basically requiring you to save scum or go through minutes of dialogue again.
Pic related caused me some of the most frustration in the series. I'm hoping it was clearer in Japan what you were looking for, but somehow I doubt it.
Guess I’ll just reset the first game. Need a refresher. I have the trilogy on 3DS, I heard it’s also on switch, any point to getting the switch version if you have the 3DS one.
>The fake final boss was better than the real final boss
Ema is MINE
>it's very unbelievable that he could be the mastermind
Not at all, considering how he claims his whole life was ruined since he was a kid just for being a witness to a murder, he couldn't even go to the police because an officer and a prosecutor were the culprits, he was forced to flee his whole life because he was completely alone until he joined the circus. Of course that fucked him up real hard. His only mistake was actually killing someone in the end, otherwise he might have gotten scott-free even after tricking everyone to kill each other.
Uhhhhhh BACK the fuck OFF?!!?
Not enough extraterritorial posting going on in this thread
fr*ck off
The only complain I hear about the 3DS version is that it's missing some animation frames so compared to the DS versions, it will look a bit stiff, but the Switch version fixes that. 3DS is still a good console to play them since it now has all the six mainline games in it, you'd only need to emulate AA Investigations 1 and 2.
I want to mating press Ema in court
I live in weebland and recently got the trilogy collection on 3DS. It has the English versions of the games as well. Playing these games in bed in the dark is maximum comfy
I like 2-2 better than 2-4
portable AA in bed is the best way to play.
I want to buy the PS4 one since its region free and remote play to my vita.
You don’t know the meaning of maximum comfy until you play them like this
The twist is better, but the fucking bro ship in the 4th case is amazing.
It was done way better in aai2
These games aren’t very fun to play drunk
i wouldnt think any story based game would be fun drunk try a multiplayer game
So what major character is gonna die in AA7? It's gotta happen.
Lamiroir.
Kristoph is legit the best villain in AA. Too bad about the lackluster case.
we all know who
I enjoyed the part where he remarked that Phoenix(hypothetically) failed at following proper instructions as a kid in school in his grade notes, but Phoenix comes around and owns him back with a similar remark.
not my waifu!
What can they even do with her to make it interesting? An on that line of thinking, what can they do with any of the characters really that hasn't been done and isn't completely fucking stupido?
eh, that's why they're writers and we aren't
Edgeworth. Gumshoe will return as the detective for that case.
>killing Edgeworth
not if the fujos kill you first
don't forget her?
promise me that even after she is gone
How did Lamiroir end up in Borginia again?
*glances up from extensive fan fiction library*
Outside of the narrative, I think AA7 could be the game that turns the Ace Attorney formula on its head. Being on a console and all, it could remove itself from being just a visual novel with tests on reading comprehension. Like, the investigation scenes could be full 3D, maybe with some first person camera options, etc. Not too sure how to change up the courtroom scenes too much, but maybe there could be branching paths based on what evidence you present instead of just having a single solution for everything.
2-1 is my favorite case and there's nothing anyone can do to change my mind. Sorry.
>branching paths based on what evidence you present instead of just having a single solution for everything.
careful with this, that kind of stuff gets messy pretty quick as well as ups dev time, I doubt they'd do it.
idr
who is lamiroir again? apollo and trucy's real mom right? that bitch better have a real good reason for hiding from her adult children. Actually what is it with the lack of / missing relationships with parents in AA? Phoenix' parents are never mentioned. Maya's mom is brought back to be killed. Athena's mom is dead, Apollo's real dad and adoptive dad are dead too, killed by the same person (lol), Edgeworth's dad is dead and was killed by his mentor
Just an idea. While the AA games are always top notch narrative-wise, there's gotta be some way to make a $40 visual novel in 2019 worth more than one playthrough.
It's also not what people want from Ace Attorney.
The series needs a fresh start with a new rookie attorney who meets new characters. And not the Apollo Justice halfway attempt.
Is this Los Angeles?
or just finally retire Phoenix to the full-time mentor role instead of half mentor and half main character. They really upped Nick's mentor presence in SoJ, I don't know if they can fully dedicate to it though.
Fuck that, they failed financially every time they tried that:
>AAI failed
>AJ failed
>TGS failed
Yet the re-releases of the original trilogy keep happening: DS, 3DS, iOS, Android, Steam, Switch.
What's the point of a new rookie? We have Athena. Do you just want another gimmick?
I can think of stuff from other games that might fit. They could implement Danganronpa relationship type interactions with characters. Maybe Phoenix could use some Shibuya Scamble type mechanics to reconstruct a crime's timeline. They could copy some of Obra Dinn's mechanics for investigation.
It's all for nothing if they can't write a good story though. And if they can write a great story, all this investment of extra mechanics is almost a moot point.
Did Yamazaki step down after SoJ? If so, do we know who's writing AA7?
Wait did AJ really failed, sales wise? I remember it actually being one of the stronger ones
What's Shu working on these days? Is he donezo forever in terms of AA?
I want the opposite of a gimmick, I want the simplicity of the original game. Some of these old franchises are buried under old characters now over written and missing their original purpose, and stories that have raised the stakes beyond what's relatable anymore. Resident Evil was the same way.
You're right it would probably not financially succeed. But I would take a reboot Phoenix Wright then if he has a different life.
Shu did DGS and I think he is still involved in some ways with the main series, artists never really move on from their magnum opus. I dunno if he'd write for the main series though unless it was a total reboot.
"Takumi had wanted the series to end with the previous game, as he felt its main character, Phoenix Wright, had been fully explored and that his story had been told; he said that it is important to know when to end a story, that he did not want the series to become a shadow of its former self, and that he did not see any reason to continue it."
>Being Shu Takumi
>Working at capcom
I'm kind of excited to see what the graphics jump from SoJ to AA7 will be like, they've gotten pretty good with the 3D models now and having them in HD just sounds super good. God, I'm desperate for a new game.
Godot and misty are pos and dumb as hell.
never got around to play the 6-DLC, should I? I've got the itch and I'm probably going to do it sooner or later anyway. Although I haven't heard many great things about it.
Go ahead. It's a mediocre case but still worth playing if you like AA.
It's pretty lacking story wise outside of one kind of cool thing about the 'main' guy in the case. What it really has going for it is the OG cast. You play as Phoenix with Maya as your assistant, Larry as a pain in the ass and Edgeworth prosecuting.
youtu.be
Dhurke ;_;
was dhurke the best mindfuck in SOJ? hated how maya was dumb/useless as usual but the final case was a sweet ride
Shes at her worst when shes a loli.
youtube.com
Biggest comeback on PW.
What are the chances of more AA games coming to Switch? Just finishing the trilogy and I needs more aaaaa.
I have a PC but it's so much nicer to play handheld in bed.
Shes pretty cringey in rfta.
You can play DD and SoJ on mobile.
Apollo Justice is on Mobile as well
Its gotta be better than bonehead mistys shame shit.
It's because of the people around Apollo and Phoenix in my opinion, plus the music but I'm very biased towards AA's music.
In the original AA, you've only really got Maya who is on your side. Mia appears infrequently but you could include her. Gumshoe is only helping you from 1-4 onwards, and that's only 2 cases (and technically 1 case in the original). Everyone else who could help you somehow find a way to make it difficult because they're not your friend (Lotta, Cody, Penny, Oldbag) or they're Larry who is pretty much useless.
In AJ, you've got Trucy, Phoenix, Ema and hell, even the fucking prosecutor on your side half the time. It feels like a friendly rivalry between each other rather than "I need to prove this person innocent and he's not going to let me". The first game also had a lot more at stake in the cases (Maya, Edgeworth). You WANT to find these people innocent, whereas in the AJ you only really feel that in the first case since they never put Trucy or something close to you in a situation like that in the game.
As AA progresses, you eventually go from "unbeatable" prosecutor to UNBEATABLE PROSECUTOR in just two cases, and hell now you're DEFENDING that "unbeatable" prosecutor from his fucking mentor. It's literally one roller coaster after another, shit just keeps on getting more and more intense. Whereas in AJ, you've just got Klavier, the rockstar brother who basically acts like he's fucking around a lot of the time and doesn't care if he wins or loses, there's no feeling that things are being taken seriously.
The music also feels a lot more impactful in the first game. As I said before, it feels desperate. Take the cross examination. It feels like you just barely know what you're doing and that time is running out, any mistake will lose the case for you. It's high pitched and fast paced, whereas AJ's feels more like a mystery that you can solve by just slowing down and thinking. It also has a magic vibe to it.
Do you think Pearls will develop as much "spirituality" as her big cousin Mia?
The music was really good in AJ though...
turnabout sisters low tier??? maybe its cuz its pretty much the first real case but I remember it being pretty good. Not high tier but definitely good.
I'm not against the music of AJ. I'm just saying that when you compare the cross examination themes, one sticks out as being intense and desperate while the other sticks out as being a mysterious and thought provoking.
Playing AAI2 for the first time atm currently questioning dogen about the chisel I'm a bit pissed at myself that I spoiled the big bad for this game way before I played it. Now I'm just kind of just concentrating on shy monkeys the whole time.
Gumshoe > Ema > Lang > Badd > Hosonaga > Marshall > Gregson > power gap the length of a fucking ocean > Fulbright
Ideally I'd like at least one more entry with Ema, because she got gypped in DD. The absolute best would be Gumshoe and Ema working together.
Ahh gotcha... For some reason for me Its ones of my fav soundtracks for the series theres just something about it.
I think most people give it grief because Mia saves the day and Redd White doesn't feel quite as threatening/forceful as he should having all that power. Damon Gant is basically a better executed Redd White in a lot of ways tbqh.
I relate to Phoenix a lot because I too have weird eyebrows
It's a good soundtrack, it has a cool magic vibe to it which fits with the whole vibe of magicians the game has that I really like, a lot of "flashy" synth/electronic piano based tracks and such. It has arguably the best pursuit theme in the series, and overall it just has nice music.
I said I'm biased towards the original AA's OST a lot so I try and big it up as much as possible but I enjoy the other soundtracks just as much. I love Tell the Truth 2004 as it sounds like all the lies that have been piled up so far have come crashing down. I'm not one for really understand and discussing music, but I like talking about Ace Attorney's OST because I feel the music really does make the game for me half the time and AJ was a good game but it didn't quite capture the feeling of loneliness and isolation for a lot of reasons, and the music can arguably be one of them.
Even today I wish they'd go back and try and imitate the soundtrack of the original again, I feel they thought what they had around the third/fourth game was perfect and sort of imitated that for the rest of the games.
>I feel they thought what they had around the third/fourth game was perfect and sort of imitated that for the rest of the games.
That's a direct result of all the soundtracks since then (barring PLvPW and DGS) being written in whole or in part by T&T's composer. If I remember right, Sugimori and Tanaka/Kimura have both left Capcom for Platinum.
Just finished AAI2 for the second time. As much as I loved case, case 3 might take it for me. Gregory, Ray, Jeff, and Kate steal the show.
My negro. I can't help but hum to this shit. If I hear it enough times I do a trilogy replay.
No. Her puberty is over. Her body will forever remain that of a sex goddess, thank god.
Fulbright has a good theme, I really like his character and hope he sticks around!
Trust me, everyone thought they were spoiled for AAI2. I'll bet 20 you haven't been spoiled. Even then, the best cases are 3 and 4. 5 is still great though.
>he thinks le monkey man is the big bad
Oh... you're gonna have a bad time.
This is the cutest shit ever
so what's probably the darkest case in the series?
The Joe Darke case.
Amongst things already translated, the last case of PLvPW wherein everyone in Labyrinthia has taken refuge in a fairy-tale fantasy to escape their own dark pasts and the whole construct is designed to obscure the fact that a little girl is responsible for the death of an entire village.
Gumshoe ;_;
>started playing Investigations
>realized I forgot everything about the original trilogy
Is the HD trilogy good or should I just emulate?
The murder took place on the day of Phoenix and Maya's wedding. Phoenix is framed for the murder as he was the last to meet her when asked about meeting Apollo and Trucy properly.
You don't need prior knowledge to play AAI tho.
My favourite case is 6-4, come at me.
The soba case? That was horribly mediocre. Easily the worst case in AA6.
What the fuck is a clown doing at a Rakugo theatre, the fucking transition acts?
This shit is probably the darkest shit. Mainline, the stuff with Athena taking apart her mother.
Just felt like going back to memory lane to be honest.
Case 2-2 comes close
Doing that to your sister is just straight up morbid
Any specific settings or characters that made you feel uncomfortable?
Viola comes to mind but for my money Aura is just straight up unnerving, just by the simple fact that she casually shit talks Athena and wanting to taker her apart
The best Athena case, I guess.
Will she ever get a game centered around her?
Why does Apollo's dad make you uncomfortable?
yeah, it's called AA7
It doesn’t help that one of the bad endings see’s Aura taking Trucy and implies that Athena’s fucking dead
