At first I was against the idea since SMB2 was different compared to the rest. However after seeing this message in the direct and thinking about it, it could be possible.
Personally I want a paper mario style but SMB2 works as well.
It's guaranteed at this point. Easy DLC and they know people would pay for it. Although it might be free considering they'll want as many levels being made as possible.

It is a RPG but It is possible. If Nintendo ever decide to do it then they will have to revamp it to work with SMM2.

Super Paper Mario was pretty subpar as a platformer, though. I really digged the story and the boss fights but the game fell apart on the levels.

This would be ok if they used the All-stars version. Smb3 is the worst looking style in Mario maker since they're using the NES version.

Galaxy has honestly the most potential to be transfered in my mind, next to SMB2.
With plenty of interesting not overly specific set pieces, an original style, movement options that could easily use the current ones as a base even.
Power ups, enemy types as well, and being a 3-D style that can easily just use the current ones but modified.
64 just doesnt have enough of an identity outside of very specific scenarios.
Yoshi's island is too out there art style wise, and lacks the whole you know, playing mario part.
SML would require entirely new graphics, and honestly doesnt have much to set itself apart from SMB1.
While SML2 is just fucking gimmick central, presenting a similar issue to 64 where outside of the overly specific scenarios there really isnt much a way to turn it into a builder.
Not to mention 64, and Yoshi's Island lack powerups which are present in all styles.
Now not saying they cant be added, just that it'd be really out there based on what we have so far.

its only for mario3d world as it changes the "gameplay" itself and doesnt have equivalents with each of the enemies and objects and stuff (bullet bills shooting out of the background isnt going to work in mario1 etc...). So the first 4 styles are interchangeable but the "extra game styles" are so different they cant just be swapped around. looks like we have a 2nd extra gamestyle so mario2 might be it.

It's Mario Odyssey. It's seperate because the gimmick of throwing the hat remains in this, allowing for 2D Puzzle based levels based around taking over different enemies. Also allows you to use the costumes in Mario Odyssey.

You forgot the mechanic with pulling items from the ground, sandblocks to dig, grabbing and throwing small enemies, a second plane based on the door potions (where you can hide items and other elements behind). And there being no powerups aside from the star, mushroom for extra health, and the floating hearts that come from kill chains. Not to mention, the entire catalog of enemies unique to the game, along with the introduction of shy guys.

Not that user, and I do not miss 100 Mario Challenge, because it was just 8-16 stages of growing difficulty (hit and miss, on top of that) with 100 lives. But I do agree on the latter and hope that the mystery mushrooms do get a comeback. Especially with the ongoing wave of amiibos coming up.

3D World is using a different engine from the other four styles, which all share the NSMBU engine.
imagine if it were a yoshi's island template... just imagine..
SMB2 US is all it COULD be. Wipes on switch like 3D World because it's so different compared to "normal mario" yet still 2D. Health, standing on, picking up enemies, duck for super jump and digging.
The question is how the 4 different characters are going to be utilized. If it's pick on stage start you'd have to prove the level can be beat with Mario, Luigi, Toadstool and Toad. Maybe you could start as Mario and find the others like power-ups?

That said, they potentially have space for 3 new themes on the screen. Maybe 2 new 'standard' styles and one 'extra' one. If they added them as DLC I would be totally okay with it.

Everything in NSMBU is not actually in 3D, but actually sprites, flat images of 3D stuff (with a high amount of frames ii animated). Plus, as shown in the Direct and the Japanese website, a lot of objects, elements and enemies take the same spot of stuff found in the main four styles. Stuff that does not act the same at all. Even certain platform types are in other spots. It's why it breaks the level design when switching styles to 3D World.

I think that Toad is just part of the Clear Conditions.
I don't know if that's proof of anything, but the fact that they have yet to reveal anything about Mystery Mushrooms or Amiibo support leads me to believe that the final big reveal prior to launch is going to be more playable characters or some kind of increased Amiibo functionality

A Mario 2 theme would be stupid without the 4 characters and their unique abilities. If they were putting Peach in the game she would be in multiplayer for the other modes instead of toadette. It's gotta be Mario Odyssey if they're doing another one, desu. A 2D game being next to a 3D one in "Extra Game Styles" would just be dumb.

Odyssey could be possible, would make sense if they're still finishing up some mechanics to show off or put in an e3 demo. Otherwise, i'd guess they're specifically keeping the last style a secret, for something like a story mode completion bonus.

Except there would need to be several paths per level to different stars. Each level in 64 had multiple end points and weren't really end points since you needed a bunch of stars to progress through the game.
Story Mode, which will have a 100+ precooked courses to play and learn different arrangements, unlock stage elements to use in the editor (Thank god they removed the timed unlock crap), etc. The toad is part of an escort mission type of goal condition for some of the 1-player courses in the story mode, but I am sure it will also be usable for player custom ones.
