Starcraft 2 is an rts that helps you a lot with the mechanics, smoother pathing, wider selection, more stuff that can be hotkeyed.
Broodwar is an rts that doesn't help you with a lot of mechanics, units pump in to eachother, so you have to micro them more precisely if you want them to move properly leading to a competition of micro in certain situations, how much you can put your focus into it, if you micro an encounter perfectly you may not have time to micro another encounter or focus on your macro properly, you can only select 12 units at a time, so moving large armies becomes more challenging and those large armies don't move in one big blob like they do in sc2, the encounters look very differently.

sc1 one shares very little with sc2 gameplay wise though they look similar on the surface. it's much more mechanical, similar to fighting games in level.
BW is the better game. SC2 was ruined with "QOL improvements" and constant patching

2 is an a move game that doesn't reward high APM
SC2 is to SC1 what D3 is to D2.
It's a better more dynamic game, and it's much more visually clear. Those are the two big reasons.
SC2 is even more APM intensive than BW. Seeing players spiking well over 800 APM is fairly normal in pro SC2 matches, compared to BW where most pros rarely go over 500.

Unless you're a Terran playing bio, in which case you need 1000 APM to avoid your entire army disappearing to one spell or a Zerg A-moving his Banelings.

2's problem is not that it doesn't reward APM, it's that units deal insane DPS and are incredibly mobile, meaning every fight looks the same as units sprint into position then deal max dps, and every fight ends the game immediately

Okay, let's talk lore. SCV's are these big mining mechs with hover legs. That's why thier HP is so high, and why they're the only Bio-mech in the game.
With huge mech bodies, SCV's couldn't be as nimble with gauss rifles. They likely couldn't fire up or anything.

Most of the cost of the scv is in the armor, while most of the cost of the marine is in the training and the gun, so you'd just end up with scvs with a marine attack that costs like 90 minerals, that can't repair, build or mine minerals.
