Trilogies that stay good through all 3 games ITT
But only Advance 2 is good.
My nigga. I liked Advance 3 as well. I don't care what anyone says.
Advance 3 is my favourite in the trilogy
DUDE if you had cream in your party you could use her Chao to attack enemies and it would look like a mini version of the character you played as.
Sonic Advanced 3 was the bomb.
All of them were good, to varying degrees. My biggest complaint with Advance 2 was the characters having such a long startup time. Breaking into a run took too long, and characters felt heavier than in the other two games. I mean yeah, a big part of Sonic is to buildup speed, but you should also have a reasonable amount of control, and I felt like Advance 2, in focusing more on speed, took a little bit of that away from us.
2 had a ton of speed sections followed by pit instakills or deliberately placed spike traps, and the controls were loose enough that they were impossible to visually react to. It had the worst level design in the trilogy.
But thats literally every 2d sonic game aside from maybe Generations
Not the bottomless pits. At least, not in the Genesis games after 1. They focused more on punishing the player by sending them to a more difficult section below if they failed a jump, rather than killing them instantly.
>But only Advance 2 is bad.
ftfy
It's the fuckin opposite
are you going to post one?
This.
>This was the last time that playable Cream was fun
Ugh.. Bros..
>Advance 1
Fucking soul and the closest to an actual sonic of the 3. Sonic moves the best in this game but is still a ways off from being as good as the movement in the genesis trilogy
>Advance 2
Ditches most of the platforming segments in favor of constantly keeping the flow. Adds in a auto-win character(cream) in case you get sick of getting fucked from shit that you can't see coming. Jumps are way more floaty so you can easily land on grind rails I assume. This in turn makes the movement feel like ass on top of the game only having 2 okay levels.
>Advance 3
Level design is still mostly shit but tries to make up for it by giving you more verticality and platforming. This helps but the floatiness is still there to ruin it. The partner system was kino but lacked proper levels to use them at their full potential.
Overall the series was okay for what it was but the first game was the only one to have acceptable physics and bearable level design, so I can't agree. Also while this may not be a big deal for most, you only get to play as gold sonic in those shitty copypaste doomsday zones from sonic 3 instead of letting you fuck around in the levels with him. Hell just think of the other characters that could've ran around in super forms.
On the contrary 2 is the closest to "holdright2win", although it does have the best bosses of the 3.
Inb4 Earthbound Beginnings is too grindy
I don’t know. Gex?
2 is the very antithesis to holdright2win
You'll fucking die in a pit within the first couple seconds of trying that
That's false though, Advance 2 is fucking awful and one of the worst Sonic games.
Advance 1 and 3 are great though, thankfully.
>Earthbound Beginnings
you're quite the faggot for calling it that
Games that never had a bad entry?
Not so fast, Sonic
Calm the fuck down. One of the worst? Clearly you never played the worst Sonic games, otherwise you wouldn't even consider Sonic Advance 2 in the top 10 worse Sonic games.
I know the proper name is Mother 1, I just wanted to post the Earthbound picture and didnt want to mix the two titles.
I derived more enjoyment from portions of Sonic 06 than the majority of Advance 2. Yeah there's stinkers like Sonic Labyrinth but that's like saying you can't claim a Zelda game is one of the worst of the proper titles because Wand of Gamelon exists.
That I find hard to believe.
>Sonic Advance
>good
I will play Sonic 06 any day over any Advance title.
You're drunk user, go to bed.
The issue with 2 is that it REALLY wants you to go fast but then the Special Rings are near impossible to get if you actually do so.
Advance 2 is the worst one. And quite possibly the worst 2D Sonic.
I am feeling drunk when I play Advance. It feels like it runs at 20 fps and sounds even worse. I guess retards that created GBA felt very smart by not including dedicated sound chipso every game either sounds like shit or chugs the game down.
Some guy is remaking Advance for PC, maybe I will finally be able to play it without being disgusted.
The fuck? None of the Advance games have any performance issues and run at full speed.
Are you sure you're remembering the right game? Or maybe you have a literal potato computer emulating it.
When full speed is sub 60, around 30 I assume, it is not that hard to achieve. My point is that none of the Advance games feel like they are as smooth as even PAL Sonic 1.
The best is absolutely Sonic Advance 3
You really are dellusional
>having Amy as your partner lets any character have a hammer
Pretty cool.
Advance 2's core literally relies on being at full 60FPS at all times. What the shit are you playing your GBA games on, because it can't be a real GBA.
This is bait
Wow. Just wow. I'm actually impressed by how bad your opinion is.
To be fair they were developed by dimps
If I wasn't at work I would've made a webm to either show what I mean or prove myself wrong. Maybe I am wrong, but I think I am not since I remember watching GDQ recently and it looked sub 30. Basically, I am fps autist and anything sub 60 deeply disgusts me.
3 is trite but the music is pure sex.
>Sonic/Amy is the best team combo
It's Cream/Knuckles
I've always found Sonic and Knuckles to be the most fun combo. Sonic has that really powerful dash he can do with Knuckles by his side.
How was Tails/Amy? I just remember flying around with a hammer seemed pretty nice.
I know this is a Sonic Advance thread, but the Ratchet and Clank trilogy is pretty good. It's not strictly a trilogy, but Rhythm Heaven has only had 3 'standalone' games and they're all good.
Fun, but not useful
Shame. Was it one of those pairs that didn't have a spin jump?
Knuckles/Tails was my favorite.
Infinite exploration possibilities and Knuckles gets a cool flaming uppercut.
This trilogy.
I haven't played Spirit of Justice yet, so any PW fags want to explain who this Albi fag is and why he's always fucking Maya in 34?
I liked 06 more than Heroes. At least 06 is trying to be Adventure. Mind you I said trying.
Heroes is trying to be something completely new and opposite to what Sonic should be by adding areas that are simply large corridors filled with enemies that take a lot of hits to be killed. It was the first game I bought with my own money, I still ended up begging the store to let me buy the game with a 5 euros discount because I was short by that much and it was a massive letdown.
Heroes might be my most hated sonic game and it's not even the worst I've been through when buying a Sonic game (got robbed in my way to buy Sonic Battle).
I think she gave him a spin jump, but a different kind than for Sonic. It was more of a gimmick combo than anything. Not very useful with exploration, but interesting combat/trick wise.
Basically has the role of Phoenix's assistant in that game and interacts a decent amount with Maya
>(got robbed in my way to buy Sonic Battle).
That is some bad luck right there
Wack. Maya is for Phoenix and I will accept nothing else.
>rent Sonic Heroes from video store as a kid
>don't really like it that much and decide not to rent it again
>it gets brought back to the rental store
>dad comes home from work
>"here I knew you'd just keep renting it so I thought I'd might as well get it for you haha"
>gives me new copy of Sonic Heroes
>(got robbed in my way to buy Sonic Battle).
That was the real Battle
I was a dumb kid with no car who really fucking loved his Sonic games. So I went by foot to the shopping alone.
>Sonic Battle
Name a game more crutched by a single game mechanic. If Emerl and Emerl customization wasn't a part of the game, it would be maybe a 4/10 at best. Thanks to Emerl, although the gameplay can get old as fuck, it still stays at least engaging enough to see you through to the end of the game. Then there's the absolutely ridiculous Hyper Specials he can do and all the really hard to get cards, really keeps the game fun even into the postgame. Strange how just including Emerl turns it from below average Smash ripoff to a pretty fun game
I agree with you
Oh yeah, emeral definitely makes it more interesting. But I still liked battling as Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Shadow, etc. Was certainly better than Sonic Chronicles. All in all it was a dark time to be a Sonic fan.
The sad thing about Sonic Battle is it makes any fight that doesn't involve Emerl feel absolutely pointless. There's some parts in like Knuckles's story where you're just by yourself for a while and it just feels like a waste of time because you aren't earning more cards for Emerl
Why did they show Tails's asshole in the intro to Advance 3?
>Sonic Battle is a Smash tipoff
ripoff*
The other characters should have had customization, as well.
It's in the same mold of big arena fighter type mascot game, yes. Even if it wasn't designed to take cues from Smash it still definitely was treated that way by most critics and gamers of the time
Almost all of them because "good" isn't actually that high a bar
most video games are at least "good"
Silent Hill.
sonic 4 exists
so no, it's not the worst 2d sonic
Not Sonic Advance, that's for sure.
>Advance 1 - great and almost lives up to the Mega Drive trilogy.
>Advance 2 - decent at first but loses it's lustre quick due to the entire game being hold right to win with all stages feeling samey.
>Advance 3 - the worst 2D Sonic game, shitty and hard to navigate hub-worlds and some of the worst level design I've seen in a 2D platformer, let alone a 2D Sonic game.
I'd say the Sonic Mega Drive trilogy is one that's consistently good and continued to improve upon the last game.
Mah nigger
I think you're just confusing the ghosting for slowdown (which obviously is going to be way worse on a fucking stream).
Timesplitters
>Timesplitters 1 sets the foundation and direction
>Timesplitters 2 improves on every way it could adding more characters, a campaign, guns, more arcade goodness, multiplayer maps
>Timesplitters FP takes slightly different direction and has the best campaign and arcade, even more characters in, multiplayer is purely subjective if it is better or just as good
I want a new one, and Ben Newman doing the artstyle again
