I had a meme channel that reposted Twitch and other stream content and got up over 20k subs but I never asked anyone for permission and my clipping wasn't transformative in any way so I just abandoned it. It got struck 3 years after I stopped posting to it which was pretty silly.

Theres no reason to do something like a streaming channel unless you really enjoy it. If you DO enjoy it and have zero morals it's still quite easy to make a 100k channel. Post daily, comment on the YouTube drama topic of the day, relentlessly self promote, spend time in your editing and thumbnails. 2-3 years later I guarantee you'll have a 100k channel.

You'd be surprised by the amount of people who buy Youtuber merch.

You need to build an audience first. Unless one of your videos goes viral as fuck, it's going to take some work for your videos to even get 1000+ views, especially if you're dealing with subject matter that isn't getting hyped as fuck right now (like new/upcoming releases, hot controversies, etc). The market for video game channels is just so saturated that the only ways to stand out is either to go viral (which is hard if not impossible to do on purpose) or to just build a reputation for consistently delivering quality content (which takes a lot of time).

I've been doing the Youtube thing for about half a year now and (without shilling) it took a while before my videos even broke 100 views. Doesn't help that I'm playing games nobody likes. Regardless, there's definitely an obvious upward trend because people keep discovering my channel and liking what they see. Most notably, every time I release a video that's super popular compared to the rest, even my regular "boring" videos get way more views than before. On the one hand it's fun to figure out what draws people to my channel, on the other hand I don't do that sort of thing a lot because I enjoy making my "boring" videos a lot more.

This is something that I've noticed recently, I now often see videos in the "Related Videos" that are just "Top 10 posts from some random Reddit sub", even though I never click on those videos.

One of my first attempts I fucked up didn't record any sound, another, it was all robot noises, and one I did yesterday I was experimenting with a noise gate and it was so strong it removed almost everything I said.
One stream was jittery and I changed literally nothing and did another stream later and it was perfectly fine. I'm sure Twitch fucks up sometimes and there's not a whole lot you can do to fix it.
Shame because I beat the entirety of Megaman 8 on there. Including all the sledding bullshit and the ridiculous final boss.
And that's not taking into account any video editing or clip making either. Its easy to see how, when people do get big, they hire others to do that and back up their streams for them.

Find a niche. I made a video about a F:NV mod called DUST because there was absolutely no information to be found about how to find all the endings, and guess what. It got really popular. How you keep an audience I have no idea but that's a start at least.
