Why did this game sell so well?

Why did this game sell so well?

Don't get me wrong, it's still a great game. But gestalt was so much better, it had more memorable music, set pieces, more cutscenes and character development, and it had more original themes.

Yet nier only sold 600,00, while automata sold 3.3million?

How did a sequel sell more? Can someone please explain the to be

They turned Taro into a meme, on top of advertising the game itself. Having a PC release as broken as it was didn't hurt either.

>Having sex
What a fucking meme.

Does sex really sell? Or is that a meme?

2b is sexy, but no one actually bought the game just because of her alone, right?

>people refusing to participate in hookup culture

Western civilization still has a chance.

I guarantee you that people saw footage of 2b walking around without a skirt and picked up the game because of it.

She was my driving factor for buying the game. I ended up enjoying it for a number of reasons besides that, but seeing all the 2B walk cycles and fanart definitely got me to buy the game.

I did. Wan't even aware that it was a part of a larger series.
I might have been, if a younger me had been able to buy Drakenguard purely for Zero like I had wanted.

I would be lying if I said cute girls wasn't part of the draw. But the gameplay and story is what kept me from dropping it completely after the first few dozen crashes on the PC version.

>gestalt was so much better

What are you talking about? Gestalt was less cohesive. In Automata, every single quest, bit of lore information, and even the aesthetic design for the game and UI has meaning within the whole work while Gestalt had a lot of excessive mechanics and didn't really give any meaning to the varied gameplay styles. Gestalt deals with less stuff thematically as well while Automata touches on every aspect of human culture combined with the SF philosophical themes. Automata is a huge compendium of SF ideas stitched together into a single whole, from the traditional stuff about AI consciousness to small things like how a posthuman race might perceive Shakespeare. Gestalt has better characters depicted but Automata has a lot of implicit and subtle characterization hidden in the sidequests and lore.

it was. Even SJW couldn't hate on her cause of how well designed she was

We can conclude that Nier Gestalt was ahead of its time.

Waifus draw money. It's that simple.

ass
it's just a mediocre game though. story was the only memorable thing. playing through it again feels like a slog

I thought it was agreed upon in the community that people who played both games ended up thinking gestalt was more impactful.
That's what I've personally gathered from the things I've read at least, so maybe I'm wrong.

I personally felt like gestalt had a more narrow focus,it only had one small theme and ran with that for the entirety of the game. While automata has dozens, it has philosophy thrown all over the place, you never have time to dig deep enough because it's always changing focus. But maybe I'm wrong,Maybe I'm just missing something here

>after the first few dozen crashes on the PC version.
lol

Only degenerates and whores participate in hookup culture. The average person will still want at least some connection to another person before benis in bagina.

>false rape allegations are a thing
>divorce rates rise
>women generally win everything in divorce cases
And they wonder why men shy away from women

It was on the 360 as well, you fucking mong.

Why are all Nier: A threads just waifu faggotry?

it played the same song over and over of course you think gestault did better

what's wrong with what he said?

To me Automata had scope but it focused all of that into the primary themes of human limitations + the cycles of violence, so it was both expansive and narrow. For example, the Romeo & Juliet scene works as a little SF joke in itself about a robot's perception of human culture, but it also parallels the violent relationships of the other characters you see in the game itself, including 9S + 2B's. Automata wasn't just throwing around all kinds of ideas, but knitting them in service of a greater idea.

I'm currently playing through Automata, haven't gotten an ending yet. I've been very interested in the game, mostly due to Platinum's involvement. Huge fan of their work since they were Clover, and have followed them since. I played Drakengard, never beat it. Played a friend's copy of Nier for 2 hours, before he went home with it.

Right now, I'm loving the chip system, very fucking cool. I also am looking forward to playing as 9S.

>xbox userbase
>playing weebshit
Weebs all went for the Wii or DS, mate.

Is it possible to play Replicant in English?
