Anyone feel like graphics aren't improving much anymore?
Top/Bottom Left/Right Smash 64 - 1999 Smash Melee - 2001 CoD MW2 - 2009 Rise of the Tomb Raider - 2015, often still used for benchmarking today.
Am I blind? I don't think things have changed THAT much since 2009, and yet I need a new Gorillion dollar graphics card every other year to run current-gen things like ROTTR on Ultra.
I know my pictures aren't directly apples to apples, I'm not trying to split hairs over details, but Melee and MW2 were two times in my life that the graphical improvement really wowed me, and I don't think I've wowed at much since MW2.
who the fuck cares lol. have intercourse or something.

Let's be fair ane say Modern Warfare 2's SP was specially polished and as such it had FUCKING AMAZING EVERYTHING
Jace Thomas
because they aren't, which would be okay except it's still what the companies are chasing
Aaron Rivera
Is there a modern equivalent game specifically polished today (within a couple years) that looks leaps and bounds better than MW2?
Connor Thompson
MW2 looked like shit even on release though
Cooper Garcia
What a stupid fucking thread where about to hit a new gen you fucking retard
Jacob Garcia
>nVidia has deposited 3 shekels into your back account. Thank you for your patronage.
Noah Edwards
Point of the thread is that shit hasn't changed much in multiple generations already. Why are you so upset user? Not enough eceleb threads for you?
Jack Perry
unironically MGSV and Survive if you treat it in a BF Vietnam way too bad first one is fucked content-wise except with mods and the second one is full of microshit not that it's needed if you play the events >new gen drops >only Polyphony Digital pulls actual graphic upgrades while everyone else has become stagnant or even lazy so much for a new gen when nobody even tries anymore
Michael Foster
Yeah I agree, forgot about when I ran GZ and was amazed at how buttery it ran on my 2011 machine. Too bad that's a rarity these days.
James Long
You should use the best image quality and resolution from their eras Gamecube and N64 looked way worse than that, and Tomb Raider looked way better Still you're right, they should improve other stuff like AI and shit like that
Carson Powell
Here's a better SS of ROTTR, but IMO it's still not a huge difference.
Graphics are definitely improving, however console tech isnt so games dont really get to use the new shit.
Blake Phillips
It’s really about percentages and fractions. Half of 6 inches is 3 inches, but half of 3 inches is 1.5 inches. The smaller triangles in models get, the less of a difference they appear. Also there is only so much you can do to improve since many games are already very realistic already. You can only mimic reality for so long until it becomes 1:1 realistic.
Eli Long
>GTX 480 was current during Just Cause 2's release >GTX 980 series was current during Tomb Raider >Tomb Raider requires a card over twice as powerful to look 20% better
they barely are, just look at cgi movies, they look alike ps4 games most times, graphics leaps haven't been interesting since 2007,now it's only a bunch of enthusiastic fags with nothing else to do bragging about muh graphics, everything resides on the artstyle now
Christopher Flores
This is why I usually knock games down to low or medium-low settings. Hitting 120FPS > the barely better looking high settings at the cost of half my frames
Cooper Hughes
>comparing screenshots and not video
Jaxon Rodriguez
Graphics wont take the leap like it did from n64 to gamecube. There are a lot of improvement to be made still, but it won't be as drastic as the previous generation of games. I expect games to be Pixar quality in 10 years, but even that isnt as massive of a jump as before.
We've going the wrong way anyway, no one is focusing on framerates anymore, and with the consoles not improving their CPUs at all it means less cool shit with AI and more big open worlds but with nothing in them.
Thomas Sanders
I'm starting to care less about textures and lighting and more about satisfying animations. Platinum games look mediocre technically but the animations make them a joy to watch and play.
