I just don’t have the time or energy to dedicate to a 30 hour RPG like I did back in high school.
Does anyone prefer shorter games now as an adult?
I still play longer games, but only a small portion. Usually it's a small section of the game, or a couple missions.
JRPG
>Have free time
>Goal: Beat the next boss
>Wait until tomorrow, repeat until final area / optional content done.
>Roguelike
>Set a timer
>Play until timer is up
>Wait until tomorrow
You just need to manage your time. I will say, though, that it has thoroughly cut down on the time I spend exploring the environment of video games.
aqua does not wear panties
I haven't even finished Witcher 3 yet. Every time I play it, I get overwhelmed by just how much there is to do, realize I need to commit 100+ hours to finish this game til completion, and drop it. I don't want to spend any amount of time picking flowers to craft potions or whatever.
Replayability is way more important than length.
She does to
They're just invisible
I'm not a wageslave so I prefer longer games.
>tfw waking up in the morning making a cup of coffee playing video a bit before I go out for a walk or the gym and then return home to play some more
>30 hour rpg
what kind of shitty short rpgs are you playing?
I've started enjoying shorter games recently after playing a shit ton of online games where you constantly work on a perpetual grind for all eternity because there's no real content.
it feels nice playing something with an actual ending. Feels like i've actually accomplished something
No. Fuck you.
Just turned 31, and I've enjoyed a pack of ~200h epics in the past couple years, and I hunger for more.
Yeah, I actually started emulating older games, mainly NES games because they're shorter and generally drop you straight into the action, I hate how a lot of modern games force story into eveything, especially early on
I almost beat Samurai Showdown RPG for the Sega Saturn in my younger days. I can't read Japanese. I can only play a single game for about an hour now. Something tells me to stop playing around then.
>go out for a walk or the gym
things you do once or twice a week shouldn't be included in your frankly pathetic greentext
I was thinking of shit I played in my childhood, like Fable 2 and Bioshock
I’m old and I’d rather play long ass games. It can take a long time but you get more bang for your buck. Plus it’s nice to always have a game you can look forward to playing at some point, instead of finishing something in a week and then not having anything new to play.
Same i just lose the mood to even finish the game after a while, the only game recently i loved and played until finish was the yakuza series on pc im still playing kiwami 2
Yeah. I dropped Kingdom Hearts II midway through because I just can't stand long games anymore. And its not even THAT long. I would just prefer games I can finish in a couple of hours.
No.
What I started to prefer as an adult surprisingly is grinding. I mean, not in literal sense, think Mount and Blade and Banished, just kind of games that can keep going on and on and on, where there's no pressure to like, if you pull out at some point because of life stuff for a long time, you can get back to it like half a year later and just play it like you ride a bike.
If I'll find a good 30-90 hours RPG be it from Japan or whatever the fuck else, I'll play it fine, I am replaying Lost Odyssey right now. It doesn't sound like an adult thing OP, you are just impotent.
Not really, I just hate "long games" now because there is so much fucking fetchquest farming involved.
Biggest issue I had with some of the last JRPG's I've played is literally just the fact that there is a story, and then there is the farm shit. FFX(inb4 shit game) at least you could roll through the punches with relavtively little farming unless you wanted a bunch of extras.
I allow myself to play more games if they’re short or multiplayer only, longer games need to be 9/10+ or else it feels like a waste of time.
FFX is pretty interesting regarding that. It's absolutely paced out in a way that would allow even dumbest of people get a hang of it with how linear it is, how areas shift monster types, level them up a little.
The problem is that once you decide to go hardcore about Sphere grid grind and arena, every time you replay FF X you have to basically go through what is 20 hours tutorial. They must've taken "Junction is too hard to grasp" criticism to heart.
same here. game was fun at first but last DLC gets overwhelming
>tfw take vacations to only play vidya on
>get 30 days a year so it's pretty dope
>still have saved a couple of days for next year when I'm going to Japan
>going to the gym
lmao as if you do, NEET.
I hate long games that do this now
>BEGINNING STORY
>like 30 hours of nothing but beat the shit out of rats and slightly stronger rats, some bits of story somewhere if you read the wiki
>ENDING STORY
I agree, long games become chores. It’s why I never beat Mgsv, Witcher 3, Skyrim, or new Vegas. Each of those games I’ve put 30-60 hours into and I literally couldn’t take it anymore.
>always wanted to go to japan
>Best friend/roommate/sort of brother's aunt invites him to go on japan since she was going there for some reason
>Doesn't tell me about it until a few days before he leaves
I would have killed to go on that trip but at least he bought me some shit there
>I just don’t have the time or energy to dedicate
I hate this excuse so fucking much, who the fuck is asking you to finish a game in the shortest amount of days? Who the fuck is asking you to git gud istantly? I fucking hate adults that justify their mediocre lives with "bawww I'm tired and old and have no time :c" garbage.
i mostly just play short arcade-style games now
RIP my dude, I've got nobody to go with either. My best friend who I used to travel with got married and its my fault so I'll probably be going solo, though I think that'll be a fun experience.
I hope I can teach myself some basic Japanese before then.
Yeah, absolutely. There are periods I barely have energy to play anything at all, and it's hard to get back to it.
I only managed to play Nier Automata this year, for instance.
I prefer my wife Aqua
All of those games are beatable under 30 hours, it's not that they are long, it's that you are a failure at beating them. Except for Witcher 3, you really have to rush with it to make it in 30 hours.
Maybe you just don't like open world games.
You’ll understand once you turn into a boomer. I find myself playing more competitive games because single player just bores me kinda.
Of.course. who has time for endless time wasting?
Depends on the game. Having less time for vidya makes me value it more, so if something is half trash I'm far less likely to slog through it, but a gud bideo gaem can make me have on average more fun than when I could play them all the time.
same with anime, especially anime with cute girls since I'm constantly surrounded by tryhard YAS KWEENZ and autistic brown people
They're just dead inside.
They obviously aren't if they can complain about it. Dead don't complain.
I do. If it's 20-30 hours then that's perfect. Anything higher becomes overwhelming
Dead inside, not literally dead.
Yes, and?
used to read all the lore, books and shit. nowadays i cant give a shit if its not in audio format
It means they lost the ability to truly enjoy and things and to feel passionate, not that they lost the ability to complain.
If they complain about it then it just means they still know what it feels like, they haven't lost it, they whine about not being happy right now. Complainers aren't dead inside, they just want attention, if you say or think you are dead inside because you can't fucking play Persona 5 you should just buy an ice cream, burger or a hug. Or find a better game.
>they still know what it feels like
Yes, it's called 'memory'. Not being able to enjoy things does not cause memory loss.
I started to think this way until I got addicted to my Persona 5 replay.
I don't mind short or long games. I just want games to be interesting. I give games less leeway now when they have boring ass beginnings.
>time
Ok, that's fair
>energy
You just suck, git gud. I have a 8 hours job and I still play game 5 hours a day.
The only excuse for not being able to play games is that you have kids.
>my fault
why didn't you marry them instead?
>tfw not homo enough to marry your bro
I do miss going on adventures with my bro, hanging out at our places, playing vidya and sleeping over. He had my keys and I had his still do but its not the same anymore.
>30 years old
It's not that I dont have the impulse and energy to do it. I just dont have the time, between a pregnant wife and a freelance project (to get some extra dollary-doos) I dont have the time to finish such long games. I dont think i'll ever play and finish Persona 5
I'm way more harsh on games with padding nowadays. Persona 5 was the last JRPG I finished and I hated it for that reason.
I grew up on Sonic games so my preferences always lied with shorter games, but more because it's easier to replay them. I end up getting more hours out of a 2-4 hour game I can come back to multiple times than a 20-30 hour game that I beat once and have no incentive to return to.
>It means they lost the ability to truly enjoy and things and to feel passionate
I want to go back. Fuck.
