Watch a LP. Ellison wanted the game to be literally impossible, so it is designed to be frustrating as fuck. If you follow a guide or watch it doesn't really make a difference.
The story is much more elaborate than the original and gives a much better insight into AMs character (quite literally). Harlan Ellison Voices AM himself, so that is a real treat for your ears.

Forced tragedy doesn't work in games, especially not ones with multiple endings. The player has to have something to work towards, a goal that they can feel is worth the effort they put into achieving. Silent Hill has bad endings that occur if you fuck up or make the wrong choice, but it also has more optimistic endings for when you get everything right.
This is just finishing a struggle by kicking you in the balls. Putting in the extra effort just punishes you. What is it with Japan/weebs having the more laborious to achieve ending being the worse one?
