In terms of gameplay it's P3 in the P4 engine, which means the AI is borked compared to 3/FES but there's direct commands. 3 purists will tell you that this is sacrilegious and an affront to YHVH, but lack of direct commands is easily the biggest complaint about 3 so a lot of people unironically consider it an upgrade. If you're fine with VN style cutscenes for everything then you'll probably like it more then 3/FES.

I'm a P3P partisan so you can imagine where I come down on this, but these anons give a pretty good overview of the situation.

If you're good with the VN style imo it offers too much over FES to pass up. I get the argument in favour of the original P3 style of combat, but it was only ever a serviceable slog through Tartarus so I don't think it's worth being a purist about.
