The basic component to being good at any shmup is knowing the size of your own hurtbox. Then you need to learn the size of the hurtbox of everything that can kill you. After that you need to practice your spacial reasoning so you can have a good idea of how far stuff you want to avoid moves and where it will be given a certain amount of time, plus how your movement relates to that. Then you'll be dodging shit in no time and can focus on things like good windows to pump shots into a boss or stringing enemy kills together. Gitting gud at vidja is just breaking the game down into it's base components really.

Is the majority of content unlocked by playing online?
I've mainly been playing story mode and there seems to be a lot of currency and character options I'm missing out on.

Characters and stages can all be unlocked in single player, but cosmetics are largely an online thing.

You can only get Oranges through online play, and a lot of shop material requires oranges.

All non-dlc characters can be unlocked offline.
Oranges, the "premium" currency, are gained from online play.
Any hair that doesn't come from spending oranges is gotten either from playing 10 online games as that character of randomly after an online game (you don't even need to be playing as that character)
Pink and Black character colors are also gotten randomly after online games.

There's also event-related currency such as halloween candy, xmas wreaths, etc, but they only drop during their events.

I only 1cc Flying Red Barrel and sora. SUGURI is too hard for me to 1cc and I'm not a huge fan of the QP shooting games to care about 1cc'ing it. AoSX is better than AoS2 balance wise if you ignore QP. I hate how people who only played 100% and 200% talks about the lore and acts as if those two games are canon while also acting like all OrangeJuice games takes place in the same universe. I really like SUGURI's lore because it feels so mysterious since there is a lot of important stuff we don't know much about yet.

I'm pretty sure, having fought her as a shitter several times, that she does missiles, then slash, then waves, then slash/hyper, then missiles, then slash/hyper and so on. It does seem shifting phases kinda resets it so she may shoot missiles twice sometimes.

I've tried guiding the laser but it just crushes me and I can't find any way to build Hyper or dealing good, quick damage on her last phase, mainly because I'm not entirely sure of how does her Force Edge work. I don't think I can go behind her, can I? Rifle M and Bazooka seem to work pretty good but I hardly ever use a third weapon. I'm also really fucking nervous by that point so my shitter fingers would miss the button anyway. And I won't disrespect Best Girl using Zapper. Any suggestions?

As for the last phase: Afaik you can't cheese the laser with a sweetspot, behind her or in any other fashion. I have a hard time building up damage/hyper in that phase so I just save at least 2 hypers from the previous phases. Once she's done firing she's vulnerable for like 5 seconds.
To be honest I very rarely use the third sword weapon slot. Most the time I just take SPRITE there to cheese arcade mode, but SPRITE is of course rather pointless against sugu.
I just hyper it anytime, I blast weak bosses with hypers whenever I can to kill them faster

After the first one launches you fly a circle around the arena, and voilà.

As for why 100% still uses royalty free music after years of updates, it might be that Fruitbat/Orange_Juice don't want to keep commissioning him or some other composer for just one or two songs every now and then, since new characters are infrequently added.

Honestly I really enjoy Tsih, Kyoko, Shifu Robot, Nanako, and Sham's themes in particular, but everyone has a decent song at worst. I can't really think of a particular character theme that I dislike.

So before OmegaTH got the rights to Sora Rockin' Android had apparently already started working on a localisation for Sora, and then OmegaTH ended up sniping the rights or some shit and gave us that god awful "localisation".

Ceo's game isn't even out yet. We barely know anything about her, and there is like 20 characters who deserves to be a plush before Nico.

You have to keep in mind overall win% as well as amount of games. If you overall win rate is 33%, then it mean you either don't win more often as her or you play her enough that her rate makes up a huge weight in your overall win rate. If games are low, then you can get skewed +50% percentage win rates. For me, QPD is at 26% winning 5 games out of 19. While that doesn't seem bad, my overall win rate is 34% so I win 30% less if I pick her. Interestingly, my Marc win rate is only 32% so apparently I do worse with her. Though that might be because she's sometimes my pick for when I only want to complete a wins daily of some sort and don't care about actually winning at all.
