I actually have enough Japanese vocabulary to understand about 40-50% of what is being said and pick out the differences, so I prefer the Japanese voices with English subs to help give context and help me understand the grammar.

Additionally, people best learn languages when hearing them and seeing the things they represent, then working out the meaning.

Having subs that don't match actually helps you learn, as the differences stand out.

Japanese obviously. I might've seen things differently if they didn't do the weird localization. That said generally speaking English voice actors tend to be great at voicing based old men, dragons and other similar characters. Awful at feminine men, women, "beautiful but not feminine" men and when a voice is supposed to be foreign. Instead a lot of these just become either generic or bitchy. FFXIV and Dragon's Dogma are good examples of this but it might be since both went for the "aught" localization. I've heard that both the german and french(?) voice acting and writing is similar to the japanese one so probably better localized too.

I've noticed a lot of the english isn't even what they say in japanese. It's like the whose line dub game a lot of the time. I'm not even counting dumb shit like in the japanese version they count backwards from 5 and in the english they count forwards to 5. There are just moments where they say one thing in nipponese and something completely different in english. Especially the white roe leader slut lady with the pistols.
