You can't, just like you can't chi a pon.
The lowest call will get overrided if he decides to call.
So if you try to Chi something but someone can Pon, you'll have to wait because if he calls it your Chi is cancelled, if he doesn't you Chi like normal. Same thing for Ron.

check their discard piles for hints.

If you got there once, you'll be able to get there again, worst case scenario (however as of now, it's still easier to recover the 800 points to get back to the middle, than to freefall into Expert and then climb the 1000 again). There's actually a lesson to learn here, user. Chii toitsu is a great hand to be in damaten without calling riichi, ESPECIALLY if you're that far in the lead.

You can watch upper dan on tenhou allday erryday. (I wouldn't recommend watching phoenix players as they play a lot according to what they know about their opponents so it's less educational)

IIRC they basically compare your moves to what would be the optimal move to make according to algorythm. Since real players don't play like AIs, if you make too many "AI-like" moves in succession it'll stand out.

Trick is to not deal into open toitoi and honitsu like a chump, and to know when to fold and let some other nyagger run into the 4 dora, 2 aka hand. Also, avoiding 4th is more important than trying to land 1st, because you'll always luck into 1st every few games, but luck can't save you from getting punked the rest of the time if you aren't defending.

I feel like JRM is faster than MS though. Though to be fair I last play JRM like 7 years ago.

Negative is of the total games, counted as a separate state. It can't go above fourth's percent. Divide 4th by negative, and you get the # of games of 4th place you were in negative.

Of course übermensch are going to climb faster. But it is nice to compare that with the average newbie.

I did. Some days were brutal as fuck. About 5 days ago I had ~1300. In one day, I dropped to 700 even though I betaori'd hard and didn't really do anything stupid, I just had absolutely insane unluck with games. After that, I took back ~200 points per session of ~10 games. Today I started around ~1500 I think, playing 8 games, out of which 6 were 1st places somehow. Today was like the opposite of that bad day 5 days ago, and I had immense luck with draws. During the whole Expert run I don't think I ever dropped below ~33% of the bar on any of the levels.

A. Is your hand a mangan?
B. Is it a good wait?
C. Are there enough turns left?

When it comes down to it, those are the 3 major factors. If you just want to get to tenpai for the sake of it near the end though and the tile is dangerous, just take the smaller hit.

One thing I think I've learned is don't start calling the rest of your hand just because you have a yakuhai pair. There are way too many reasons the last two might never come out. I think I've put myself in furiten more times on a shanpon wait than I've actually completed the hand after midhand when non-braindead players stop dealing live honors without thinking, especially when I called everything and it's clear yakuhai is the only way I'm making a hand.

You can find yourself still waiting for many tiles while someone else reaches tenpai and now you're one or two calls in and have a greatly lowered defense and weak attack if you keep going. I know it can be infuriating to discard an honor and receive the next tiles one after another, especially if you discard a pair instead of just one but you should definitely discard them more often. Didn't see the other part about what else besides calling. Well even then I can't really say until you fix that call rate as it will greatly change your stats. Your defense might actually even improve once you do so.

No, you seriously don't understand, the last place cat had already ponned and chiid his way to a worthless hand before anyone did anything. He wasn't going for anything, he just didn't know what he was doing. He played every round like that exactly the same and won most of them. The last round he won with a 1000 point hand that took him from last place 8000 to last place 9000.

Dealer is a nyagger by default.
He plays aggressively to avoid getting his ass tsumo'd. And if he has fucking nothing, sure thing he'll call for the 1k to get a chance at better dealer hand.
