This doesnt mean Playonline is gone, but they have updated the installer available on the website to the current patch, so it's not a long initial patch after install.
This makes it the perfect time to return to the game, as they are also running a free login campaign. If you've never played before, they are also running a discount campaign, and you can get the game and all the expansions on the cheap. This is all in celebration of the 17th anniversary of the game.
FFXI has been through many changes over the years. Old vets like myself will tell you that it's a lot different than it once was, but it is still the patrician MMO. The game still receives monthly updates, they have stated that they are planning something big for the games 20th anniversary (which means that the game will be supported and live for at least another 3 years), even Yoshi "I'm going to kill FFXI so you have to play FFXIV and buy stuff from the cash shop" P has admitted that hes playing FFXI again.
Classic WoW is hot sharded garbage. FFXI through all the changes still manages to be the most fun and engaging MMO on the market, and it has stood the test of time against all the odds. You kept trying to go home, but home has been waiting for you all along.
I feel like I'm too late for the party on every mmo. classic seems cool because its fresh but even then it might as well be a fresh turd. fuck me for not getting into mmos in their hayday.
Well, at least it's not $15. I will try the free trial first, after wasting a six or so hours trying to choose my race and first class.
MMOs nowadays are full of these "catch up" mechanics. Not sure about XI, but XIV's ilevel progression essentially resets every six months, and they even let you get event-exclusive items after the event ends on the cash shop. Unless you are talking about guilds and "cliques", but you need to be a social butterfly to even fully enjoy these, and if that is the case any time is a good time to make new friends.
Jaxson Edwards
I'm not really interested in loot treadmills. I just want a gameworld full of people you can interact with.
Joseph Bell
Maybe if I still had my g15 keyboard. I feel naked without.
Logan Murphy
Oh. Time to get a time machine, then. I actually enjoy the "loot treadmill" aspect of these games, but I also enjoyed finding people in the middle of nowhere and partying up with them to murder some fauna. Ragnarok Online was great in this aspect. Honestly I don't like auto-party and instanced content, it kills the "living world" aspect of MMOs, but I know they are a necessary evil nowadays. Even I need them because of my rather limited free time and IRL shit, it's either that or no treadmill for me.
Jace Gray
As opposed to the other guy I could care less about interactions in this game as I get enough socializing irl and don't need it in my vidya. Is this game worth playing solo for the plot since you can run content with npcs?
Alexander Richardson
The stories are fantastic and at least as good as a single player FF.
The game does a really good job of making you feel like a part of something larger, in contrast to something like FFXIV where you're the big hero and the world wouldn't exist without you, and whenever you're not around everyone stands there going "Where's ?"
Bentley Evans
>Final "Macro for literally every single action you do" Fantasy Game runs like garbage too, and it shouldn't because even older mmos like Everquest and Anarchy Online run pretty well for their age. It's amazing how anyone put up with XI back in the day, let alone now.
The game was designed to run on a PS2. They did a lot considering the technical limitations.
Isaac Fisher
XI was always praised for its story, world and "adventure" experience, especially when compared to XIV.
To be fair, XIV's Heavensward at least delivers a good "single player experience" story. It's also one of the few moments in the series that actually gives the spotlight to dragoons.
Kayden Robinson
Everquest was designed to run on a pc still using windows 95 and dial up, cry me a river
Landon Fisher
They're clearly different hardware you smooth brain. It's a lot easier to update something that was developed for PC as technology improves, than it is to update something that was constrained to console hardware which is no longer supported.
Chase Watson
Can't believe how complicated it is just to get FFXI running again today.
It's such a pain in the ass, playonline should have been completely scrapped a decade ago.
I'll bite, Do I need to actually own the game to take part in the free login? Or can I get the game for free and need to pay for the expansions?
Michael Watson
If you have machine so bad that it can't even run FFXI, I don;t know what to tell you. Save up $50 and buy something twice as good as that shit machine you call a computer.
John Williams
Free play is only for OGs. Probably because newcomers get like a month free as it is.
Colton White
Ah damn now I respect this nigger
Carter Torres
>Do I need to actually own the game to take part in the free login? Yes. You can do the free trial any time but you won't be benefiting from the free login time during either your free trial or your initial month's sub. So even if you started now this period would be worthless to you, you'd need to wait 6 months or so for the next free time to use.
Sebastian Turner
Aw, Thats a shame. The Steam sale is coming up soon so maybe I'll buy it there I don't think I would move from xiv to xi but I'm certainly interested to try it out.
Brody Murphy
It is though. The game was developed for PS2 using PS2 dev tools, and was released in Japan originally only on PS2. It was then ported to PC.
Samuel Flores
The remake was announced years ago, you know. We will all have fun together again all thanks to Nexon. :^)
Isaac Scott
Ohh, But it does have a free trial? Is it like xiv where it lasts up until a certain level or just 14 days?
Angel Brooks
This is one embarrassing post
Robert Kelly
youtu.be/Rmdr-xVZmHk I know FFXI was always on PC, but it was pretty comfy playing it on PS2
James Brown
All the small servers are boted to high hell. Cheating is very prevalent.
It's NOT the nexon game. This one's from the FFXI team. They even made blog post saying that updates will not be coming so much anymore because they have to work on this 3-year project.
>it lasts up until a certain level or just 14 days? I believe both of these conditions are true. Level 50 is the maximum and you are mostly limited to vanilla content. With these restrictions in place you can get your desired subjob as high as you will ever need it to be (level 49) and complete the original story (such as it is) before paying anything.
Logan Turner
I really do hope it is an HD remaster that replaces the shitfest FFXIV is. Don't get my hopes up user.
Julian Taylor
Would people play it if it was on switch?
See you at e3 ;)
Nathaniel Carter
So this shit is only for installing and not updating? What the fuck?
Julian Price
It is the most current patch. So until they release a new patch there is no update needed.
The old version of the installer was 3-4 years or more behind which meant after you installed you had a really large initial patch after install.
Dominic Anderson
Maybe I'll beat Wings of the Goddess story during this free period. I've never actually beaten that entire thing, all these years.
are people still salty that ffxiv is the reason ffxi is in maintenance mode
Jaxon Walker
Always, and a variety of other reasons.
Noah Phillips
It has, it downloads all the expansions in one zip and when you install it you get all the latest update patches. It used to take 6 hours to patch after installing.
Bentley Rodriguez
It's not, ffxi gets more updates now than it ever did.
Monthly updates now compared to updates every 3 months before.
Adam Rodriguez
Dammit, I JUST wrestled with PlayOnline for the first time yesterday. Least I'm uh... not one of those newfags, right boys? Us oldfags remember what it USED to be like, right?
I like the Final Fantasy series, but assuming I'm used to clunky game mechanics, why would I play FFXI over Everquest, which is free?
Evan Gomez
>they have stated that they are planning something big for the games 20th anniversary lmao... they're looking 3 years down the road on a game that already has minimal subs?
anyone who is a fan of ffxi knows the only saving grace for the game would be a classic server announcement.
If you like nu-ffxi there is already the same game with 10x the subs. it's called ffxiv. nu-ffxi has a lot of content, i'll give them that. however, when the only thing to look forward to in terms of upgrading your characters is to pray to the RNG gods for better rolls on your gear augments, that is shitty gameplay. Not to mention that combat is just a spamfest anymore.
nu-ffxi fans will never know the experience of making a group of friends and grinding together or doing endgame content with 18+ other people that required actual coordination. feels bad man
Jackson Taylor
As a new player any tips for working towards becoming a Dark Knight?
David Campbell
updates that add what exactly? recycled armor with different stats from a rotating monthly boss fight you have to kill 50 times to get all the rewards until they swap it to a new one next month?
yeah, real awesome content they're adding!
Hunter Watson
It's a husk of its former self. That said many of the shitty game mechanics are still in. >No auto range attack. If you are playing a ranged attacker you must hit the button for every attack. >A billion different currencies to keep track of to do a thousand irrelevant tasks >90% of the game is meaningless now. None of the old rare items are worth obtaining. >Zones are empty landscapes devoid of players all the way up until endgame shit >Walking speed still abysmally slow and zones too large with nothing in them. >Still have to pay extra PER MONTH to expand your storage via mules >Equipped gear still takes up inventory space >Can't get 60fps without addons >Still has 1000 abilities per job, you'll only use maybe 4 or 5. >Gear swaps make you spend extra time getting super situational gear that takes up space in your inventory. >Hope you enjoy grinding alone >The only people left playing this 15 year old game are turbo autists who can't hold a decent conversation and have zero social skills
Haven't you heard? TRANNIES TRANNIES TRANNIES AAAAHHHHH
Hunter Watson
he's not into furry erp shit so he doesn't fit in very well
Oliver Cox
Good to know. Although when I said died, I meant I thought the servers shut and nobody was playing at all, rather than a mere few.
Jayden Wright
Unlocking other jobs outside the 5/6 are lv 30. It's in Bastok I think so familiarize yourself with the region. DRK uses scythe n greatsword so if you can buy one of each, use it to skill up. Typically ppl do warrior as their starting job since its a very common sub job (max sub job is now 49). Do lots of sparks quests and use the merchant to buy gear to lv up in.
The worst part about these games is the furfaggot community.
I cannot stand any of these fucking disgusting cunts, I just want to play my game without having to deal with those degenerates.
Cooper Hall
>Still has 1000 abilities per job, you'll only use maybe 4 or 5. unless you mean spells, there was never that many abilities for jobs. the 1000 spells made sense back at 75 cap because it took so long to get to max level, you needed to progress your spells while leveling up. nowadays not so much as you can hit 99 in like 30 minutes naked with no spells at all
Andrew Morris
my friend used a mouse and kb only and no macros. He was insane. He sent me a vid of him clicking shit and I was like "what is wrong with you?" Because I am over here using scripts that let me do a whole "rotation" with a single button.
Josiah Perez
I played the game up until 2006. I really want to go back but for some reason I'm hesitant only because leveling up took forever back then. How is the level progression in this game? I'm willing to sink hours into it, especially since I want to be a BLU main again, but I want to know what I'm up against in terms of leveling up and how to do it solo with "trusts", which I'm vaguely aware of.
>Gear swaps make you spend extra time getting super situational gear I always loved this part. Having a large variety of gear and customizing it for situations. >The only people left playing this 15 year old game are turbo autists who can't hold a decent conversation and have zero social skills Have made very different experiences when I came back for a few weeks last year.
Jace Clark
if you played ffxi pre2005, it's hogwash. go to the Nasomi private server and you can play ffxi in it's glory years.
Brayden Hughes
Netflix healers, tanks afraid of tanking, DPS playing like bots (possibly because they are bots), and the classic "you don't pay my sub". Duty Finder is a russian roulette with six bullets.
Jaxon Lee
You go to a level with enemies that are appropriate for your level, you summon your trusts, kill everything until they no longer give you good exp, and move on to the next area. Repeat until 99. You'll be doing this mostly alone.
Brandon Green
trusts are npcs you cast and they come fight with you. you need to unlock them via quests/points/events. if you have the good ones, they will carry you from 1-99 with very little input by you other than casting them and initiating combat. you can get to 99 very quickly. less than a day if you didnt have to deal with the level cap quests. with all the new exp rings and other changes to exp they have made, you can get like 20k exp a kill
Jason Martin
By the way, I just checked it and when I just re-installed it through steam (Seeker's edition) and ran through the playonline update, it was somehting like 14,000 files that each needed to be individually downloaded to update the game.
Then I did it via OP's link and it was only 700 files, which only took 20 minutes to download.
So if you have the game already on steam or w/e, just don't download it there.
Brody Cruz
glory days, as in having to literally walk everywhere, having no fast travel except teleports, taking eons just to level up to 75. No thanks man, there's things I liked about the old FFXI but I do NOT want to go back to that bullshit.
Brody Cook
eden is a better private server than nasomi, but both are garbage compared to what the real thing was. having players be the GMs for the game is absolutely retarded
Owen Diaz
yeah when the game had soul. teleporting 50 yards from your objective is aids and the worst thing that happened to the MMO genre. whats the point of making a whole game world when 98% of the players will never see it? might as well just make every zone linear to the exit
Landon Parker
It's still running and getting monthly updates on pc, they just discontinued xbox and ps2 support.
Jack Scott
FFXI client is dogshit. It's really bad that you need to mod the game to play at 60FPS or
Joseph Jackson
The game has 40k people playing, they seem happy with what they are adding.
Regardless, it's not maintenance mode.
Parker Cook
glad that 40k people still enjoy it but that's dead compared to ffxiv's 500k+ monthly players
Christian Anderson
>The game has 40k people playing Seriously? How many do you think might be bots? 40K seems like a pretty healthy playerbase.
Chase James
is making macros hard in this game? also what is the Yea Forums server?
Jose Johnson
a lot. 40k spread across ~16 servers is not many. and i'd wager at least 25% are on Asura since the server population on nearly every other server peaks around 500 daily
Alexander Perry
Not particularly, but you're restricted to 6 lines per macro. I'd assume the Yea Forums server is Asura, because that's where literally everyone else is.
Henry Sullivan
assuming you know how to code a lua file for the windower addon (gearswap?), no it's not hard just time consuming. leddit has a linkshell on the asura server. highly doubt there is a Yea Forums server/ls
Asher Harris
It's because it unironically is. Asura has 2.5-3k players online every night. Odin has a little bit less but they're all slopes.
Just about every other server has a least a few hundred online every night. It's not like in its heyday where you'd get 6k people on every server on Saturday night but it's more than enough to get shit done.
Dont listen to the FFXIV trannies that trash the game, they just wish their anime waifu dressup simulator could stand up to an actual MMO. Must really sting that FFXI has a better transmog system lmao.
Chase Jones
I want phantasy star online
Evan Russell
Just fuck off back to your ERP thread. And 500k is a joke compared to every other MMO too.
Noah Anderson
There used to be a Yea Forums linkshell on Asura but now it's full of unironic redditors. Most of the old guard that started the shell a couple years ago have moved on, but a couple are still around.
Julian Butler
>is making macros hard in this game? If you can read and write english, not that hard.
>also what is the Yea Forums server? Used to be Asura, but the have been disbanded last I checked and weren't in any of the last FFXI threads, so defunct.
Jose Campbell
And a better housing system for the majority of the population.
Landon Walker
Never ever. Sega is far too incompetent for that.
Connor Bennett
Can we talk about all the things FFXIV ripped directly from FFXI?
even the original races were a blatant copy of XI's. how difficult would it have been for them to use some other races that have appeared in one of the 13 other FF games
Leo Price
I dont have any seething tranny wojaks otherwise I would post one.
Jordan Sanders
i thought xiv shills were the trannies?
Christian Sanchez
This game is dead lmaooo. I can only imagine the type of people that play this. It would probably make for a deoressing as documentary. Also I pity anyone here that didnt play it the first two years it came out.
Evan Harris
aren't both games from the same franchise by the same company? how could they steal each other? what a bunch of brainlets.
Kevin Wilson
the game peaked around 2007 though
Christian Bennett
Yes
Adam Howard
based
Eli Nelson
>company has an existing MMO >makes a new (keyword being new) MMO >steals nearly everything from the old MMO with better textures >haha look how fresh this new game is! yeah i cant understand why they wouldn't want to make new things for their new game
Zachary Butler
XI has such good monster design
Brody Torres
Sure zoomer. Went back in 06 and it was shit.
Ian Foster
The thing is, tardmax, it's not even a joke. I used to play XI on this exact computer and it was overkill for playing FFXI.
I don't know how it's even possible to have a computer so bad it can't play it. You don't even need a video card ffs.
>still doesnt get it The game itself is just poorly optimized because older and newer games run just fine for me.
Zachary Stewart
I played FFXI for 2 days maybe 4 years ago and this song is still stuck in my brain. No regrets.
Samuel Ortiz
FFXI runs on a Playstation 2, your PC is either weaker than a PS2 or you're lying to bait responses.
Christian Long
No YOU don't get it. There's a 30fps cap on the game to give it parity with PS2 version. That's not the game "running poorly". That's the game running nominally.
If you want to remove the 30fps cap, you use a 3rd party program like the windower.
God I miss this game. I don’t have time to get addicted again though.
M-maybe I’ll just load it up and see how things are going, if the install isn’t an 8 hour nightmare anymore
Brody Gray
>XI drones cant fathom their home game having any flaws at all
Adam Lee
The actual amount of time required to progress in the game is a fraction of what it used to be. I have a full time job and I can only play at night and on the weekends, and you still feel like you can get something accomplished even if you only play for an hour or two.
William Mitchell
Damn i remember my bros dropping this fast shortly after launch because they couldn't find a party. Crazy that its still goin all these years later. I only ever made it to lev 52 but i had great gear. Fags would accuse me of buying gil when i literally farmed, mined, auction house hustled for my shit.
Ryder Murphy
I bought a million gil early on, ended up figuring out some good ways to farm and make money. By the time I quit I had 172,000,000 and sold it for a lot of cash back to the gil sellers.
worked out i guess
Caleb Rodriguez
Why am I doing this again? Someone save me...
haven't played this in ~2 years and I don't even remember how to play.
I can't remember anything, and the linkshell I belonged to when I last played is broken / dead.
I think you all forget just how god damn boring FFXI is.
Play a Monk up to level 60 and tell me it's an interesting game. Even if you have a more active job like Bard, or Red Mage you still have insanely long cooldowns.
Remember how long it takes to take the ship from Mhaura to Selbina? It's seriously like 30 real time minutes of waiting.
Every single thing is gated by an insane time investment or grind.
I nostalgia for it too, but got damn is it boring. It's not worth it.
Benjamin Jones
I think MNK is dead, no one plays it anymore as it's useless, at least it was last time I played.
Julian Rogers
Can anyone explain the lore behind the Reverne Sites? It's been forever since I played. It's something to do with Lightbringer exploding right? But what's with the dimensional warps?
Isaac Richardson
Nah, FFXI is fun and it's still fun. I don't mind all the long traveling because it makes the world feel like a world.
Nolan Moore
Me and a friend are eyeing the game. There are so many choices though. Are there any jobs or classes that you are better off avoiding? Rune fencer, thief and red mage look cool thematically but if all thief gives is a loot buff that only matters in the last 2% of the game I would rather know before.
Colton Davis
That the area that leads to bahamut? I just stopped asking questions. It's FF. There's a zone with talking alien dolphins in a sea under the sea.
David White
Yeah, it's the area with all the floating pieces of land by Tavnazia.
Justin Turner
>Nerfed Sacrifice Fucking why, Zombie is going to be a bitch to remove.
that said it did run generally better back on hardware of the time. it helps that D3D8 wasn't effectively emulated up to D3D9, which has been happening since win7
you really didnt want to experience having potentially unironically over 9000 files to update if you used all the original retail discs
Brody Fisher
Can you still not communicate with other players while dead?
John Reyes
>Has Job Mastery >No rema Good question
Robert Hill
I WANT to like this game, I keep daydreaming about it, but being new at it now it just feels way too slow and there is so much shit you got to research to get through it. I'm not patient enough for all that.
Hunter Butler
/tell, /party, and linkshell chat have always worked while dead. only /say, /shout, /emote have not. dunno if /yell doesnt work while dead but that's in town only so its useless. /unity also probably works while dead but nobody uses that chat channel seriously.
Jacob Rodriguez
>you really didnt want to experience having potentially unironically over 9000 files to update if you used all the original retail discs I had been there and back a few times over the years. Believe me, I know the 11 hour nightmare all too well.
Jacob Cook
Monk is weak. Their abilities are wonk and their damage is poor due to their weaponskills having bad modifiers.
Redmage is good at buffing and debuffing enemies, but bards and geomancers can buff and debuff in a way that allows better geared players to kill enemies more easily. They're better at melees than other mages, barring blue mage, but they're nowhere near as good as regular melee job. In general, redmage melee is frowned upon due to the fact that they're in ranged of aoes aimed at the tank and they every hit a monster takes, it builds up points that let them do special moves.
Thieves are more support. They do poor damage with daggers unless the enemy is specifically weak to piercing. They can do a lot of damage with sneak attack and trick attack, but those are on one minute timers and depend on positioning. Never farm without being a thief main or subbing thief.
Runefencer is arguable the best tank if well geared. They are only bad for tanking lots of enemies.
as a Yea Forumseteran to FFXI a new character was a breeze to me but im basically a walking FFXI encyclopedia
Nathaniel Bell
someone make a Yea Forums LS and ill resub to play :^)
Brandon Bell
hopefully those days are long gone forever due to this new installer bro
there is/was one on asura. I do not know if it exists still. I have always been on ragnarok, but i am currently not subbed due to being busy. like Yea Forums, i think ill be playing FFXI off and on forever.
Ryan Hall
>Thieves are more support Incorrect, a proper THF is fucking ridiculous. Our THFs easily outparse most of our SAMs, WARs, and DRKs on longer duration fights like the Dynamis Divergence Wave 3 Mega Boss. That being said, the job damage ranges are very close to each other, most jobs perform very well if geared right. I think MNK and PUP are the only really poor damage jobs at the moment and it's because as you said, their Weapon Skills are hot garbage.
Id play it like 12 hours a day for three weeks and get burned out
Isaiah Parker
is pld any good anymore? i think i had an aegis and the emp shield made. probably garbage though cuz they werent ilvl 150 or w/e stupid thing the game did to gear
Ryan Reyes
I think RUN is overall better, but PLD still is a very good at what it does: be a fucking wall. It just could use better tools to grab hate quickly like RUN.
Cooper Evans
>5 hours old thread >55 unique ip >was bumped many times from 10 page Holy shit, xi fags are so fucking pathetic Also reminder to every newfag, XI was considered one of the worst mmo ever made and was joke in the mmo community for the long time, even on vanguard people shat less
Michael Peterson
its pretty fun until you hit 99 and realize you are actual months behind everyone else in gear but in order to get that gear, you have to play geo or cor just to get ambuscade groups because nobody wants a dps or tank with shit gear
Chase Scott
Who else went to jail in game? I stole from a casino, then bought an overpriced item from a friends bazaar to pass the money but logged back in on my main in jail. Still got away with s ton of theft like that though.
Jeremiah Stewart
see anyways, the game as it is now has none of those problems except maybe the cooldowns? even then, if cooldowns on JAs were so you could spam them most jobs would be broken. spell recast timers were never that long.
travel is done via teleporting everywhere so there is no wait times anymore.
monk to level 60 would take like an hour today.
Asher Baker
Because you don't need it to get job mastery?
Job mastery is just grinding capacity points, you don't need a REMA to do that. I have 5 jobs at mastery and none of them have a Rema (SCH, WHM, THF, BLM, WAR).
Charles Butler
Pleb casuals hated it.
Bentley Campbell
>being such a seething tranny you have to defend your furry erp simulator against a 17 year old game yikes
Angel Young
>shitters who couldn't get past Dunes thought it was bad Oh no how will we ever recover?
My brother went to jail for cybering with some person who was AFK just outside of Jeuno.
Elijah Sullivan
What I really want is a remake / remaster of FFXI.
I just want a fresh start, and everyone else to have a fresh start so that 90% of the community isn't all at the level cap just sitting around all day doing nothing.
I really want to see what Sky and Sea would look like with current gen graphics. Those zones were super beautiful.
Andrew Bell
PLD is great but if your DPS know wtf they're doing you wont keep hate unless its a long boss fight making you use Sentinel, Rampart etc couple times.
Lucas Clark
I haven't played in a year and just booted up today, is the ability to access all your storage spaces from anywhere new or did I just never notice it previously?
Levi Bailey
>The game still receives monthly updates, they have stated that they are planning something big for the games 20th anniversary What? I heard it was in maintenance mode and all focus was on XIV instead.
Jaxson Thompson
Hey there, I was on the Vanguard dev team and helped release that game to retail when it was barely what could pass for Early Access in the current year. I'm pretty sure if we released it on Steam today, we'd end up with Mostly Negative as the rating. At release it only took about 15 casual hours to reach the point where the content simply didn't exist yet, if you knew how to grind it and ignored diplo etc.
I'm pretty sure we got panned harder than FFXI ever did. Beyond that, one of these games is still alive and I would honestly say the other never really even made it to full release. So many features on our board never made it into game, even after the pointless expansion.
Jack Gray
it is for the most part. theres like 2 people working on the game anymore and all they do is change the boss in a monthly dungeon that drops currency for recycled armor set models with slightly different stats. hell they probably just rotate the sets at this point. they add no meaningful content
Jaxson Gomez
There's a very small team working on content for XI, like very small to the point where the content comes in VERY slowly. The most recent content addition was added like a year and a half ago with a somewhat recent addition to said content like 5-6 months ago. They do other small adjustments every month though.
Nolan Wright
Yes that's exactly what maintenance mode is. I heard right then.
Blake Cox
I play on the era private server. It has more working stuff than eden and nasomi but a smaller playerbase, and a lot of endgame focused custom content. It's a 75 cap server with stuff up to WoTG
Lincoln Morris
What I wouldn't give for a remake. The characters were really special, made the world actually feel alive instead of just revolving around the player character. Why did MMOs change so much?
>That one Taru who was getting cat-fished There were a lot of great characters, the final expansion really was a fantastic send off though, especially with the massive fight scene with everyone you met taking on the cloud of darkness.
Jose Sanchez
Back then in jeuno you would just standy by them and wait for someone to win, then quickly click trade. The casino would assume its the winner and pay you. I got away with it many times.
Jack Johnson
Oh wow. You must be full blooded hispanic or something of the sort.
Christopher Cox
>implying casinos arent jewish nigger hybrids
Brandon Wright
>wanting a remake I seriously don't understand you people. Half of what made FFXI special was the community of the game, and not only is that already long gone, but there is 0 chance of recapturing that with a remake. The internet has changed. We have changed. FFXI in its heyday is no longer possible, and while it still may be gratifying to rummage around in its corpse, what was will never be again.
no, the only reason it wouldn't work is because kids today would never play it. there is no instant gratification.
they could however, make it into a single player version. fill the party with some of the story NPCs like Trion and shantotto etc
Lincoln Lee
Either that or a sequel mmo following the same gameplay would be great but we'd have to be honest, none of us have the time to do that anymore. My wish has always been a single player version of XI so everyone could explore the world and experience the story, but with how disorganized SE is today I doubt that would ever happen.
Cooper Stewart
Is there any way to recover my character from like 10+ Years ago? I don't remember any of the login info, only the character name. Do they destroy characters after a certain period?
Sebastian Jackson
The casino very well may be but the guy lurking in the shadows waiting for the the right moment to rip people off is definitely hispanic or some kind of gypsy. So well thought out too. It's amazing.
Ayden Hernandez
The worst part about it is how close we are to this with the Trust system put into place.
Joseph Wood
I used to play FFXI, it's trash, don't waste your time
Hunter Davis
Yes. Contact SE to see if you can recover your old account.
Hunter Parker
The story was quite good for a lot of the expansions. I want to fuck around with Tenzen and Prishe while being chased by the Shikaree sisters, and check out the interesting underwater set piece beneath Aht Urghan. Those things don't even need to be an MMO, I just want the game itself in nice graphics.
Sebastian Hughes
We are 100% white. I'll tell you what i told the dungeon master. I am a roleplaying as a Thief.
Robert Bell
Their customer support is pretty great, but in terms of cs quality it's >calling by phone > online chat > *powergap* > e-mails
Oliver Howard
Russian then?
Jose Wright
did he let you go? seems like a pretty reasonable reason to swindle people out of their shekels in game
Christian Campbell
Yea but they took the money from my friends account.
Nathaniel Sanchez
last time i logged into the game it was just filled with people botting all the good solo cp camps. has that changed any or is it the same? i reported a lot of them but they never got banned
oh fuk free ffxi again!? I didn't finish leveling blm. And they just put out the raid for div 2... Fuck. Can I just get a god damn day off to play some vidya?
Colton Price
>sylvie now you're thinking with confluxes
Jason Gonzalez
This will vary by server but on Asura most of the bots are focused on areas for farming spheres for the crafting shields.
Ryan Reyes
that's why I didn't finish leveling my blm. even botting was getting garbage experience because it was so packed. maybe I'll just stick with dnc since they nerfed mnk like 2 years ago. Wish there were still good keying pts.
Chase Gutierrez
Get into a party, BLM is a very good JP farming job.
Elijah Wilson
If you're talking about leveling to 99 just do the RoV quests. The key items give heap big exp bonuses and escha is great for levelling.
Eli Lewis
Everytime I try to launch 11 it tries to start and then goes straight back to POL, with no error message. Does anyone know why this is? It seems to be a known issue from 2015 ish but none of the fixes apply to me.
Samuel Harris
If anyone is on the Asura server and is able to help me I'll give them 1mill gill, if that's even still worth anything.
Asher Walker
is directplay installed? I assume you're on win10 however
If anyone is on the Asura server and is able to help me I'll give them 1mill gill, if that's even still worth anything. Just include your character name with your reply.
Lincoln Young
yeah but I can never find anyone because all the peopleI've interacted with don't want to take a chance on a rando. Idk man I've kinda given up on ffxi. I have such visceral memories of walking through la thiene to level WAR. the dunes. Getting my chocobo licence. I quit and deleted my character a long time ago and then came back in 2015 for a hot minute but everything was different. Idk I don't really have a lot of time so I only play like an hour a night max and I don't have any friends. fuck I suck dicks /blog
Ian Johnson
its likely this i recall running into this problem at one point as well but dont remember the fix
Hudson Cruz
I'm on WIn7. That directplay response seem to be a really common issue but it's not for me, I've seen people having similar issues with outdated directX drivers but all of mine are up to date. I tried changing the resolution with the config tool but I haven't tried windower, I'll give that shot.
Thanks guys.
Caleb Bailey
you could go play on eden or nasomi if you just want the old experiences of getting to 75. endgame community is toxic on eden though. nasomi i never got to endgame on
Hunter Bell
>tfw shitty dial up >sitting on my bed reading manuals while the game updates
Man I never got that far but this was my first mmo. I still nostalgia hard for this shit.
He said he had an hour a night max. What do you think he's going to accomplish on a 1x 75 cap server? I love FFXI more than any game but recommending it to people with strict time constraints is just cruel.
Colton Perez
I know but I really just want to play with people. I'm almost at max gear score in division 2 and I'm looking for some people to play with but the only people I've interacted with are dumb fags from here and a pair of 12 yr olds who's first words to me were "we weed smokers lol" Like who gives a fuck if you smoke weed dude just play the fucking game. I live in commiefornia you're not special for smoking weed that shit is normie tier shit now.
Lucas Johnson
Endgame is great on era, since it's an endgame focused server
Dominic Hernandez
It's never too late to start. I'm finally starting on my first rema after 13 years of playing
Wyatt Powell
I have a level 15 WAR on nasomi but I couldn't find people to party with reliably. I tried to have some friends join me for a static but they were wow kiddies and they basically bounced as soon as I taught them to make macros. as said I can't really expect to get to 75 even if it were retail in 2009 let alone now.
Jaxon Garcia
Honestly dude once you hit 99 there's shit to do with other people. CP parties are like old school exp parties just faster paced, ambuscade is something you do with a group, doing endgame popped mobs is with a group. All the relevant endgame activities are group activities and it's easier to make friends and find shit to do once you hit 99 and start doing ambuscade.
Having an hour a night to play shouldn't deter you. You don't need to set aside a full 6+ hours to do one thing and it's easy to switch gears from one thing to another.
Xavier Carter
Nah, I don't have the time anymore for that. The only one I would ever want is Yagrush for my WHM, but now that I read about augmenting ultimate weapons too, it feels like they just wanted to add even more grind to something you already have to spend hundreds of hours grinding. It's just not worth it to me.
a decade ago maybe, but then again a decade ago you needed an entire LS to help you get one.
I already uninstalled it after re-installing it a few hours ago, I walked through a few zones, got absorbed into the atmosphere and saw that they were all empty as fuck and it got depressing. I wish there was a way to completely revitalize this game, because right now it's just not anywhere near what it once was.
Alexander Cox
Seems like it might be fun. I've been wanting a really chill MMO to play and it seems like you can powerlevel pretty quick. Though I would like to relax and enjoy the story if it's any good. Over a decade of content and mechanics seems pretty daunting though. I enjoyed playing CoH for a bit with the server releases and it's a great game and all, but it doesn't have a lot of meat. You basically go around and AoE fart on door missions until you get bored of your build and reroll.
Dylan Rogers
Did windower work?
Anthony James
Not so far. It's doing the exact same thing. I'm playing with a few more settings just to be sure. If the issue is something graphical then that at least narrows it down.
Brayden White
man, you need WAY more than 1 hour to get anything done. You won't ever get anything done in FFXI with 1 hour of play a day, speaking from experience.
Just doing 1 round of abmuscade would require the following:
Shout for 15+ minutes just to form a group with the right jobs for the ambuscade NMs and the right difficulty. Get in line for ambuscade once you have your group, make sure everyone is there, have your WHM and other party members buff you. Fight the battle, which could take 10+ minutes depending on the difficulty of the month's ambuscade Rinse and repeat.
And that's one of the quicker things to get a group together for since a lot of people do it.
Angel Gutierrez
is dnc or mnk still viable? I have both at 99 with sparks gear. Can't remember if I've got a RDM at 99...
Matthew Jenkins
last time I played MNK and RDM were pretty much irrelevant. Not sure about today, but most of RDM's duties have been taken up by other jobs that do the same thing it does, but better (COR, BRD, GEO).
Jordan Fisher
I wouldn't bother too much with working hard on endgame group content if you're a new player. FFXI story is legitimately good from Chains of Promathia and beyond. You can pretty easily get to 99 and then sail through the story first.
Angel Lewis
>runefencer >bad for tanking lots of enemies
With DT gear, AOE spells, and Cacherian Verve RUN has no problems holding multiple enemies especially if you know how to fun. I tank Dynamis-D. Foil is one of the best hate abilities in the game.
The only advantage PLD has is super-tanking because you dont have to be engaged to block. But if you're rocking -75% (50 from armor, 25 from Ep) damage it really doesn't matter.
All classes are viable, some are just more desireable than others in the current meta.
Your best bet is going to be working on your missions, collecting trusts etc, and the RoV intermediate objectives which will get you a full set of entry level i119 gear. Once you have that you can start doing ambuscade solo for those sets. Once you have a basic ambuscade set you can start doing the intense ambuscade and joining groups for most of the t1-t3 and t1-t2 escha zi'tah and escha ru'aun mobs.
I know it seems daunting but it's really not that bad if you just break it up one mission at a time, one piece of gear at a time etc.
Gabriel Clark
I'm ready to come home Sorry if it was already mentioned, but is there a Yea Forums or /vg/ Linkshell to join on Asura?
There is/was one called implying but most of the old guard who made it originally have moved on. A few remain. There's mostly unironic redditors in there now but a few of them are generally fairly helpful.
Jayden Richardson
that's the thing. As stated earlier high level solo grinds are really populated. I keep chasing the meta only to have it pulled from under me and every time the botting gets worse. If I had friends who could boost me then I'd play but I don't have time to get another job to 99 just to wander around trying to make friends with elitists who don't want me. Maybe I'm seeing this from the wrong angle, but that's just how I feel.
Jack Adams
>subscription lol
William Taylor
That's just how it is now, the only people still playing FFXi are people who have ltierally been playing for over a decade, people that have 10+ REMAs unlocked, people with literally several hundred DAYS of playtime minimum, people with 10+ jobs mastered.
These people either want to take advantage of you so they can put more gil towards some other pointless grindy bullshit, or will "help" you do the most menial shit in the game like get past the 3 mage gate and then fuck off.
Honestly, people need to get redpilled about this fucking game. It's trash, it's always been trash. Yes, you have some good memories and good experiences playing with other people, the music is nice, the zones are nice, it was a pretty innovative game for its time.
BUT, the game is trash. The entire design of the game is to keep people addicted and playing as long as possible so the jews that run it can keep milking your subscription fee. That's why literally everything in this game is a massive grind, such as collect 2000 heavy metal plates, or collect 30,000 alexandrite. There's no specific reason to have to collect literally tens of thousands of the same stupid fucking item other than to pad out the time it takes to complete a single task to HUNDREDS of hours of slaving away playing the game nearly non-stop until you achieve your goal.
But it gets worse, with each update to keep players playing and give them another reason to keep slaving away at some slightly better gear they add onto this grind and make it even worse, most recently they added on ultimate weapon augments, which is just adding another hundred hours of grinding on top of the several hundred you already spent slaving away at the previous objectives.
All the highest end content in the game is complete bullshit too, with NMs that are extremely overpowered and can only be defeated by cheesing them in whatever ways players have found to do so, such as SMN conduit spamming bloodpacts.
Levi Wright
every time i hear ffxi music it makes me want to resub. maximum comfy
toau was the the peak for ffxi. it all went downhill after they added dancer
Cameron Nelson
>"I'm going to kill FFXI so you have to play FFXIV and buy stuff from the cash shop" Love some good fearmongering
Logan Wilson
i've been playing for over 12 years and yeah you're pretty right.
Most veterans suck and wont help where you really need it. it's sad and boring
Jace Torres
Most of the elitists on servers like asura are actual mouth breathing idiots who ask for things like Idris GEO for their CP party. Their expectations are unrealistic and you shouldn't use them as a gauge for how the rest of the population that knows what they're doing feels.
If you're honest about your capabilities and you're not actively seeking a carry I think you will find that people can be quite helpful.
FFXI is still the long game. It's still a grind and it requires an attitude readjustment from modern MMOs. You wont often find instant gratification, and you have to learn to set realistic goals. Instead of fretting over the REMA only dumbasses, just try to figure out ways to improve yourself.
Jackson Hill
it's $9
Justin Murphy
It's not like these concepts are exclusive to FFXI. You need to have some reason to keep people paying.
Oliver James
>Honestly, people need to get redpilled about this fucking game. It's trash, it's always been trash. wrong. it didn't turn trash until they started catering to casual zoomer faggots with no attention span.
the rest of your post is explaining what MMOs are, or used to be. sorry your attention span was too small and you were unable to make friends. to many people who enjoyed FFXI, making friends and doing things with said friends was the best part, not gaining more virtual loot.
Lincoln Ross
damn son you sound hella bitter about not getting that Relic sword. As soon as I can find friends who aren't scrubs then we can enjoy the game together!! You'll see! ;..;
Josiah Martin
Are there still working hacks and bots? Clipper was the shit.
Owen Ortiz
yes. i think xiclaim still works. farmpro or something like that works to bot random mobs for farming/exp. these all work on private servers too which is why private servers are so bad
Nathaniel Reyes
Seriously, if you don't want grind, you should probably steer clear of MMORPGs as a genre. The entire thing is predicated on gear treadmills and carrot on a stick progression. XIs sidegrades that last for years was comparatively quite nice.
I enjoyed the old FFXI, back when the community was actually decent, a decade ago.
Now it's trash, there's too few players, and those that exist only care about themselves, that's just the way things are. The general mechanics of the game prevent people with jobs from getting anything accomplished either without completely sacrificing our social lives.
No, I don't have 10+ hours a day to spend grinding away farming items or whatever other bullshit is required to get to the best content in the game, I know this is what most MMOs are like, but compared to say FFXIV where that grind is a lot more manageable it's just a let down.
I don't play FFXIV anymore either, but when I did the grind towards the best gear was no where near as bad as XI was.
It's mostly the Mythic and Empy weapons that piss me off. Anyone can build a relic, because all it requires is spending hundreds of millions of gil, while the others require you do pointless NM farming (empy) which takes weeks of just sitting around camping NMs, or in the case of Mythic having to do ALL of the assaults, and all of the ZNM content which is extremely grindy and outdated.
Aeonics are kind of like Relics in that all you have to do is grind through all those NMs in the escha zones, but the highest tier ones are some of the toughest in the game so have fun getting a decent group to do them, it's a nightmare to find a group capable of doing Warder of Courage for example.
Dominic Lee
>I don't play FFXIV anymore either, but when I did the grind towards the best gear was no where near as bad as XI was. Because it gets powercrept and invalidated every three months. Those are your choices with MMOs, you either have long grind for equipment that lasts for a while, or you get short grind for gains that are swiftly made weak.
Lucas Campbell
lol, Relic weapons are the EASIEST to upgrade, all you need to do is buy a bunch of the ancient currency and shit, get it to lvl 99, and then do the plutons / riftborn boulders / beitetsu stage to get them to il119.
That's it.
Mythic / Empty / Ergon are 100000x worse.
Actually, I think the Ergon ones are THE worst because at minimum it requires SIX FUCKING MONTHS to complete all of the fucking guilds or whatever they are called in Aldouin, because you have to be rank 10 with every single one of them, and you can only rank up one at a time doing 2-3 tasks a day to advance in the rank, because the game places these limitations on how many KI you can hold that you need to do the quests.
Honestly, that is the most perfect example of how the devs have forced a grind into this game that doesn't need to exist. Without the KI limitation you could get it done in a few weeks easily, maybe even a few days, but nope because you have to literally wait 16 HOURS or whatever before you can get another KI to do another one of the
Oh, and in addition to the 6 month grind to do all the coalitions, you have to fork over 14k high purity bayld or whatever, which is like 10-15k each, so have fun spending hundreds of hours farming / buying that shit too.
Honestly, it boggles my mind that people can see all of this bullshit and still commit to the grind instead of finding something better to do with their time. The only good parts of FFXI are leveling up initially, and going through the stories and quests and whatnot.
Adam Foster
fwiw, "lines" for ambuscade is really only a problem for certain servers. >they could however, make it into a single player version. fill the party with some of the story NPCs like Trion and shantotto etc >My wish has always been a single player version of XI so everyone could explore the world and experience the story, but with how disorganized SE is today I doubt that would ever happen. As mentioned before, SE looked into making a single player version. Their accounting department ran the numbers and the conclusion was that it would cost too much and make too little, so the idea was nixed.
Levi Jackson
aren't they working on a mobile version? Just wait for that.
Joshua Adams
how would it make any less than a normal FF title release? or cost too much even... you don't have to hire people to write a story for it. all the models for everything are there too
Joshua Powell
If grinding has taught me anything is that it can be pretty relaxing. You can just switch your brain off, listen to some nice music and go with the flow. It's pretty nice honestly, how I used to enjoy merit parties.
Robert Cruz
It's not actually that simple. Hell, at one point a couple of years back they briefly considered uncapping crafts on a single character, then realized how many dialogue trees would need to be altered and balked.
Lincoln Peterson
Let's say I don't care about any end game stuff and/or high tier gear grind. If I pretended that this game was single player with co-op and just wanted to do mostly story stuff, would I have a good time? Is there a big linear story or is it broken into several arcs?
Shooting the shit with friends, or just people you met in the party was the best part of old school grinding. It's like a goddamn funeral procession in most duty finder leveling parties in FFXIV.
Xavier Thomas
honestly, I don't even remember a single thing about the story. The story is just there for you to spam enter and skip through all the endless cutscenes and npc dialogue. But yes, you can solo pretty much all of the story currently, and I'm not saying it's all horrible, but it's nothing particularly special. You could easily do it with a friend and just summon trusts to help you do any battles. Or you could pick a job like BLU or DNC and solo all of the content with ease.
Ryan Myers
Rumor has it actually that its been put on hold due for now to the continued success and profits of the PC version I think they were expecting sub numbers to start dropping more, but they've actually been steady (even increasing at one point in time)
Ian Watson
mythic/emp/etc are designed to be long term goals but my biggest problem when I played was everyone expecting you to have them just because youre max level.
Jaxson Jones
several arcs. each expansion was a different story. if you wanted to just play for the story you could probably watch it on youtube easier. if you got to 99 and had some meh tier gear, 75% of the story missions would be super trivial and boring
Owen Reyes
Each expansion is a story arc. You'll still see characters from previous arcs and it will for the most part form a cohesive whole. I really enjoyed most of the NPCs, it's nice that they have their own stories and personalities that aren't simply to make the player feel like a god.
Anthony Roberts
That's why I miss it. I used to have such a great ls until the ls leader stole a bunch of shit and ran. Fuck you eclipsez. I'll never forget.
Benjamin Wood
Yeah that really does suck You pretty much need a Linkshell to do certain content with because randoms have pretty high expectations
Evan Ross
this is why the game is shit. the community is shit. if anyone wanted to go play today, they had better bring a couple friends along.
even with 1 friend and 4 trusts you can kill quite a bit. some stuff is still locked behind needing 3 or 6 players though which is gay
Aaron Perez
>It's like a goddamn funeral procession in most duty finder leveling parties in FFXIV.
Not for me. Then again, the servers differ based on which region you are. I always find the Japanese players to be a rather friendly talkative bunch.
Connor Brown
Honestly, it's a pretty good ps2 FF story. So yeah, you can solo your way through it, though it'll still take you some time. Don't spam enter though it like a retard though.
Julian Brooks
While that did happen I mostly remember most parties to be pretty quiet. Chat boxes were instead filled with TP reports, that dude who macro'd everything to declare in /p and pulls. There wasn't really much chatting going on.
I've heard this. Makes me want to learn moon because everyone says that the shitter trannies are all EN and all the most helpful and best players are JP.
Eli Walker
>By the way, any tips for a first time shitter? don't play alone
Ryan Morris
XI is just a jap game through and through. If you don't find balance in your tasks, you'll burn out quickly.
Do some mog garden, then do some empyrean farming- not much, just try to get 5 claws or whatever you need a week. I personally enjoy AOE farming during gain exp for money and gobbie keys which sometimes give me valuable items to sell or keep.
Try to split your attention and just get a little bit done at a time or you'll hate it. That's the only advice I can give as someone with 3 mastered jobs and 3 REMA's. I've had to quit and come back because sometimes I just went in for too hard and too long.
The amount of knowledge FFXI requires you have to perform well in the game is insane. Not only do you have to understand your job inside and out, especially mage jobs like BLM, WHM, etc. but you have to understand and use external programs like windower4, gearswap, etc. I mean the game does have a built in system using macros and gearsets, but it sucks and no one uses it because gearswap is faster and better, and just learning gearswap is its own thing because if you can't find a .lua that someone else made for your job, you have to learn how to make your own. Even if you find one, you still have to get your gear and edit it into the gearswap .lua properly, especially augmented stuff, and you constantly have to update it as you get new gear / augments. It has such a steep learning curve, which is why I'm afraid to even get back into it because I've forgotten everything and don't want to spend days re-learning and getting experienced again.
idk why I torture myself playing WHM though, it's a thankless job, and it requires so much effort to be good at, constantly debuffing your teammates of status effects, and almost all the high level NMs do nothing but spam AoE status debuffs constantly, and if you get paralyzed or silenced, god forbid good luck trying to take echo drops if you're paralyzed badly and the item won't fucking activate, while your team is all dying and has a 50hp/s poison on them.
Juan Jackson
I'm not sure how much they fucked the steal rates for LB, but going 1/1 with this just felt good.
Can't help it. There's no dedicated Australian servers and I was told Tonberry and Masamune were the best servers to play on as an Australian when I did my research. All I ever hear on Yea Forums and /vg/ is that American and EU player bases suck ass because of various reasons.
Evan Lee
the gearswap lua is the reason i don't play anymore. such a fucking hassle trying to learn how to make one and if i find one someone made i still have to take 5 hours entering all my gear and looking up what gear is best for each JA/WS/MA
James Collins
i think abyssea farming has to be the worst part of the game right now. All of the zones are dead, they're just cloned normal zones with a different sky, everything still aggros you at 99, and lastly you still need to endlessly farm those stupid pop items for all the NMs, and the highest level NMs force you to farm several items from other NMs that also require items from other NMs to pop, which also require items from other NMs to pop, which require items for normal enemies to spawn. It's just horrible game design in every single way. The abyssea shit is the worst thing to ever happen to FFXI.
I never, ever want to have to go through farming glavoid ever again, it's an absolute fucking nightmare.
Eli Young
fuck you lola
Lucas Lee
I feel for you man People always tell me that I need to play WHM to be able to get into parties to get any good gear at all for main, which is something I honestly don't want to do The pressure of being a healer is too much for me
Eli Young
the hilarious part is SE probably never intended for gearswapping to ever be a thing, until it became one when players realized the advantages of swapping gear for a WS or spell.
I agree though, it's just too much time to spend doing something just to do something else in the game, it's like having to do homework for entertainment.
Christian Hughes
I agree that like some other old systems that got one, the abyssea pop system needs an overhaul. Of course, when they finally decide to +3 empy armor, they'll probably do something terrifying related to aby anyway.
Bentley Morgan
Best place to go LFG in aht urgan if you just wanted to chill and chat.
Dylan Morgan
gearswapping was what kept the game fresh. instead of having to farm for ~15 pieces of gear you had about 60 to min/max everything
Zachary Moore
If you're looking for a gearswap guru i'd recommend selindrile.
He posts his LUAs online and you can use them, you basically just plug your gear in. He's also pretty helpful and will answer questions in his discord.
There's a couple retail FFXI streamers on twitch as well who are pretty good for answering questions like ejin_caitsith.
Noah Wilson
I will say, even though it takes a lot of work to get it all set up, god does it feel good when everything executes perfectly The first time I really saw it shine was the gearswap script for my BLU to swap to M.Atk gear Nothing felt better than getting a full MP refill off of 1 Magic Hammer
Jeremiah Roberts
Also, inventory management is still a fucking nightmare in FFXI. When you have multiple jobs geared up for il119 there's just so much gear, like each job will have at minimum 60+ pieces of gear for use in gearswap, especially mage jobs, and you only have so much inventory space in FFXI, even with all the mog wardrobes they added.
I only have 4 jobs that are mastered (BLM, WHM, THF, BLU) and all of the gear I have takes up almost all of my inventory, in addition to all the other bullshit rare / rare/ex items I have that I don't want to /toss.
It boggles my mind that some players have every job mastered, and so many damn REMA weapons, though there is that armor / weapon storage NPC I guess.
John Ross
the worst part is that you can only hold 1 pop item at a time.
They could fix abyssea overnight just by allowing you to stack NM pop items.
Dominic Myers
Clearly I'm not the only one who found it terrible. You should stop calling it a Yea Forums linkshell too since that's clearly not what it is. It's just you and your boyfriends actting high and mighty, being butt buddies and doing nothing with anyone in the LS.
Anthony Ross
Make regular mob pop drops a high drop rate. Make nm pop drops (including the KI ones) 100% even without red proc nonsense. The fact that for some pops, it's still faster to just aoe burn and open gold chests is way too dumb.
Ryder Reed
Thanks for reminding me of how awful the Epona's Ring farm was Thankfully I got lucky and got it on the 3rd or 4th kill
Adrian Fisher
game needs a tlp server already
Nolan Collins
is that ring even still used today? I haven't played since like 2012. You would think new gear would have replaced it by now.
Brayden Jenkins
Its best in slot for most melee jobs outside of rings from omen.
There's plenty of examples of gear like that. Horizontal progression, not vertical.
David James
> but you have to understand and use external programs like windower4, gearswap, etc.
Absolutely wrong, this may be the case in a post abyssea XI but prior to that the only thing people used was windower for convenience. If you were good at the game you knew how to communicate, setup gear sets, when to switch gear, how to position yourself, and most of all you had a 6th sense for threat management.
Blake Fisher
There are better rings, but they are much harder to get.
Tyler Morgan
Suppanomimi and Defending Ring are two more great examples Two old items that are still considered BiS even today for a lot of jobs
Julian Rodriguez
I haven't really played in 2 years but have AG Ragnarok and a decently geared BLU. Decided to try ambuscade normal and won at 0 countdown on doom. I don't really know what to do in this game anymore though. I'm on Asura if anyone wants to do shit.
I think the original creator stopped doing zones, but other people are still doing some (including things like items and equips) Check FFXIAH
Matthew Reed
>"I'm going to kill FFXI so you have to play FFXIV and buy stuff from the cash shop" It's shit but this is wrong. Not much different than charging people to play additional characters.
Kevin Mitchell
I literally ran sports gambling in game with gil one time. That pissed off the real roleplayers. Dudes that play this still are gonna kill themselves when it gets shut down.
Joshua Phillips
FTP or gtfo
Jaxson Morgan
>No auto range attack. If you are playing a ranged attacker you must hit the button for every attack. Literally not an issue. Only 2 classes really use ranged attacks and they build tp with melee so almost nobody uses ranged attacks. Also you can get an addon that does it. >A billion different currencies to keep track of to do a thousand irrelevant tasks There's a tracker for all of your currencies and it's not hard if you're not a smoothbrain >90% of the game is meaningless now. None of the old rare items are worth obtaining. Not entirely true. I will admit most old areas have lost a lot of their purpose but there's still reasons to go there (quests/missions) and there's still low levels items that are good today. >Zones are empty landscapes devoid of players all the way up until endgame shit Play on Asura >Walking speed still abysmally slow and zones too large with nothing in them. They upped the walking speed and you can get mounts now and movement speed + gear. >Still have to pay extra PER MONTH to expand your storage via mules yeah that's bullshit >Equipped gear still takes up inventory space Not a problem if you know how to manage your space with wardrobes. >Can't get 60fps without addons So use addons? Why wouldn't you? >Still has 1000 abilities per job, you'll only use maybe 4 or 5. You mean spells? There's maybe 5-10 abilities per job and they all have their purposes. >Gear swaps make you spend extra time getting super situational gear that takes up space in your inventory. OH NO MORE CONTENT! FUCK THIS GAME. Seriously if you don't see this as the best thing about the game you're a retard or a WoW player. >Hope you enjoy grinding alone Play on Asura >The only people left playing this 15 year old game are turbo autists who can't hold a decent conversation and have zero social skills You're right, play XIV with totally not tranny autist whos social skills revolve around emotes and yiffing. Most people on XI are adults who converse just fine.
Tyler Young
Just dled black desert. Mmos are desd
Michael Howard
Literally every time I try logging into PlayOnline with the proper password it tells me either the ID or pass is wrong
Lincoln Green
They straight up took XI and turned it on it's head to try and get people to quit and go play XIV.
Colton Cox
>Most people on XI are adults who converse just fine. Going back to XI is always interesting because it's like a time capsule. I still see people using ^_^ like it's 2006.
Camden Johnson
why didnt they ever add male cats and female ganondorfs
William Rivera
I can't imagine the kinds of creatures that play this still. Just want a peak into their life.
Ayden Jones
Remember to also log in with the square enix id
Noah Jones
Pretty sure Galka are agender.
Thomas Reyes
>They are only bad for tanking lots of enemies. [battuta intensifies]
Jonathan Stewart
but what about cats
Adam Brooks
grats bro
Benjamin Robinson
Tried to do Intense Normal and got rekt by AOE.
I was going to say this looks expensive to do but 100 currencies are only 200k. For some reason in my head i remember them being a mil+. Not that it matters much since i have 143m from before i quit.
I fucking am you cuckold It literally will not accept it and only after I changed the fucking password to a new one and tried it it sat there for moments then said it was disabled because I failed the password three consecutive times what the fuck does it want from me? I literally work fucking IT and this shit is baffling. I've been feeding it the correct password the entire time.
Hudson Jones
Tried playing this game a while back
It's trash lol
You could only like it if you were around for it back in the day.
Boiling Over: Gains an aura that grants players a regain effect. Any damage taken after this move will increase the damage of Nether Castigation.
This is a similar mechanic to Glassy Thinker's "Pain Sync".
Oliver Reed
That one I can only guess is because they wanted to be lore accurate, since male cats are rare and are just used to produce children. It would be weird for there to be a lot of adventurer male cats in such a scenario.
William Miller
I absolutely have the time to do that. I wouldn't no-life it, nor would I care about keeping up with the no-lifers, but I still have a ton of time to put into stuff.
FFXI was about the journey anyway, not the endgame even though it had that too.
A WoW friend of mine who never played this in its prime likes it, so I think you just need to be of this era of MMOs, late 20s and beyond only. It's like pesticide for zoomers, not healthy for them.
Lincoln Stewart
I don't remember jack shit about FFXI anymore is it even alive anymore in EU? I can always just fuckoff to nasomi and try to break my head on remembering how the game supposed to work
Jeremiah Collins
This. One of the best parties I had was a jungles party, lv25 and our Ninja tank had to keep goin afk to throw up because he was too drunk. We partied for like 5 hours all drinking and shooting the shit. Still friends with one or two of them to this day 17 years later. I'm still friends with the JP girl that helped me unlock Samurai as a noob. Two of my friends (a swede and a finn) both met in RL, got married and had kids. I even ended up quitting XI when the lvl cap went up and going to Eve Online with 3 or 4 people from my linkshell where we had another 5 or 6 years of adventures together.
FFXI servers were always run in japan. the EU stuff was just an EU client with a few translations to different languages. As it stands, there's only an english and JP client. If you used an EU account you can still play on the live servers normally as you used to.
John Gutierrez
XI trials have been dead for a few years now. Too much RMT abuse despite taking counter-measures against it.
James Kelly
Galka don't work that way. Dude cats are kept at home by the chicks in their matriarchy..
Jonathan Adams
I never got to try it out when I was younger due to money issues, so the idea of dropping money on it just to see if I even like it when it's considered a "dead game" due to barely any players being left is a pretty big turn off
Jeremiah Cooper
if you want to try the game for free just make an account on a free private server like Nasomi (autism central), Era (chill stoners) or Eden (mix of both)
2 of my best friends i also met on FFXI and i talk to them daily. its been just about 15 years since i met them both. I have to wonder if modern MMOs can actually get this occurrence to happen as commonly as it seems it was for FFXI
Easton Turner
Just play Nasomi, not the garbage nu ffxi
Jack Ortiz
It happened a lot in all of the older MMOs because you were essentially forced to socialize to get anything done.
That's why most people called them glorified online chat rooms.
Grayson Ramirez
but does it still take 3 days to download
Jayden Walker
I did know people who subbed to FFXI specifically to keep talking to their bros
Josiah Martin
Can ambuscades be done solo with trusts? Tried the current one and doom pretty much made it impossible for me, since the AI can't figure out how to cursna.
Aaron Clark
nasomi's got way more autism though, if you want the 2006-style of waiting 4 hours for an exp party and being turned away from your only pt invite because your gear isn't good enough for a lv40 beetles party then go right ahead. the smaller servers like Eden and Era are where it's at. Eden if you have all the time in the world to grind, Era if you have a life... basically. Some autists scream about "muh player population, there's no way you'd get a party with less than 1000 people on a server!" but they're usually the retards that never use /tell or /shout to organize shit on their own. You only need 5 other people to make a full party anyway. t.Played on Era for years and hung out with my LS of 20-something buds every weekend having sick adventures. 2 friends of mine played on Eden and said it was a good server, I would've gone there but didnt have the time in RL to grind away at 1x exp.
I stayed subbed to talk with my friends too and immediately unsubbed when we parted on bad terms. Still regret it. It was a good game and I shouldn't have let that ruin it for me.
this happened to me on Era private server even. I'd done basically everything in the game after playing for 3 years. Only thing left to do was beat Pandemonium Warden and grind a few more relics but I didnt give enough of a shit to do that. But I still found myself logging in every weekend to drink some beers and kill shit with my bros while talking shit on comms
Eli Smith
I've been leaning towards Eden because it seems to be the most authentic and that matters a lot to me even if I don't have as much time as I used to.
Is Era significantly more casualized? I'm guessing that's not the case so much as it's just based on a later expansion?
Nicholas Jackson
Nasomi's been dead ever since Nabutso got found out to be a nazi
Nolan Sanchez
Yeah if you want slightly more authentic then go Eden. Era's nice cuz you have a choice of picking either 1x exp rates or 4x exp rates (ppl who pick 1x exp rates get extra bonuses), it has home points (which speed up CoP missions so fucking much you have no idea) and you start with every outpost warp. Era's community is more chill compared to the other servers, mostly cuz everyone's in their 30's, married with kids and doesnt have 40h a week to sink into the game anymore. Era's got really solid codebase though and have most of ToAU content working (Salvage is coming soon, it's still in final testing/balancing stage)
tl;dr Plenty of free time? Eden. Busy in RL with job/kids? Era
Charles Sullivan
>I think I had an aegis How do you think you have a relic weapon? You either know you had one or you didn't have one, it wasn't something that was easy to get.
Nolan Morgan
Realms of Jova.
Julian Sullivan
eden endgame scene is cancer
Jaxon Sanders
I've been looking through the Discord and there seems to be a lot of drama. Maybe that's just because it's Discord. I'll probably try Eden for and duck into Era if it seems as bad in-game.
Julian Cook
>it wasn't something that was easy to get. have you played in the past 5 years? you could probably finish a relic weapon in a week nowadays
Colton Watson
Yes. I soloed most of my ambuscades when I played.
Isaac Roberts
Can I reup my mog wardrobe individually, or are these cunts just keeping all my gear hostage until I pay for a sub again?
This. Even on private servers making a relic is about as easy as just nuking statues w/ a 75 black mage for 3 nights and then turning in each stage when it's ready.
Isaiah Morgan
Do tell.
Angel Martinez
its "fine" until you get to endgame activities and need to find a LS. the green LS used to be (probably still is) full of botters/cheaters who got banned from nasomi. now they basically run the server because player GMs are in there and they're also friends with the server admin
Christopher Wright
Considering he's complaining about iLvls it would have to been at least Abyssea era.
Josiah White
even abyssea era was miles easier than it ever was at 75 cap
Isaac Cook
i'm sorry it ended on bad terms bro. i hope it wasn't over needless pointless drama.
now you're making me want to log in to retail to say hi to my bros. people like you are absolutely remembered and appreciated
Aaron Peterson
>spend 30 minutes unlocking this >need 3 people to enter rip
Depending on the server you can probably buy a MYthic and a relic if you bought all the Alex/currencies.
Alexander Baker
based. im gonna go play on nasomi now
Caleb Garcia
Honestly, I'm waiting for a private server with all the expansions before I even bothered with 11. Seems like everyone just stops at Chains of Promethia though.
Nolan Martinez
What stuff can i solo at 99? I'm not entirely sure what the endgame is
Cooper Morales
considering how slow progress is on private servers for new content, you may be waiting a long time... not to mention all the bugs that still riddle the "best" servers
Jonathan Clark
My Linkshell still does this, our events pretty much turned into a glorified shoot-the-shit sessions. It's fucking great.
Brayden Scott
Chains was the peak, but Treasures and Wings weren't bad expansions at all.
Kayden Clark
I have to like ToAU more because BLU is my favorite job.
Dylan Bennett
All the story stuff is soloable, though you'll want to pick up some decent gear to solo the final fights of adoulin and rhapsodies. Some endgame stuff doesn't even let you enter with less than 3 people, but some of it is soloable.
Luke Brooks
getting to 99 isnt even the hurdle needed to start doing endgame stuff. since they added ilvl crap you have gear checks (accuracy checks basically) to even be able to do endgame stuff
Nathan Stewart
wings was shit because dnc ruined the game
Owen Russell
How approachable is it to someone who's only casually interested for the story reasons and doesn't generally like MMOs?
Jonathan Hall
Why was DNC so broken anyway?
Nathaniel Stewart
aside from the final missions for rhapsodies and maybe seekers, you can solo it all very easily
Jonathan Peterson
It is very much a "Need to consult the wiki" era of MMO. Also archaic interface with lots of menus and submenus.
Owen Moore
If you get to lvl 99 you can do literally *all* the pre-ilvl story trivially. There is story to be had in Abyssea, but it's extremely sparse and hard to find plus a little bit inconsequential.
Jacob Gutierrez
turned every melee job into a solo job if you subbed it
Isaac Gutierrez
*tssssssssst* *crack*
Yep, Final Fantasy XI Online, now THAT was a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game!
But is the gameplay tolerable for someone who dislikes how MMOs handle?
How is it compared to 14 in that instance? Since I already find 14 extremely messy with its UI.
Austin Ross
What about how MMOs handles that you dislike?
Jackson Russell
>Since I already find 14 extremely messy with its UI. Well, all your inventory spots are in batches of 80, after inventory space upgrades, for starters. There's no drag'n'drop, and the game is best played via keyboard-only, with numpad for movement and targeting.
EverQuest is boomercore, FFXI is Xennialcore, XIV is zoomercore.
Levi Scott
its not an action rpg by any means but combat has been sped up lightyears compared to how it used to be. its similar to ff12 in that it auto attacks, but a lot more depth
Grayson Hill
Controller is probably the best way to play imo. Perhaps less buttons, but it feels alright.
Isaiah Howard
Did you like Xenoblade Chronicles 1? FFXI plays a lot like that, but there are a lot less "arts".
its pretty uncanny how XC1 has similar systems to FFXI
Haste, double attack, auto attacks letting you use a better skill. the way in general how you have to pull your weapon out to attack are the major ones I can think off off the top of my head
Matthew Ortiz
for me it's keyboard for being able to handle anything at any time with macros, keybinds, etc but controller for grinding. I use controller for leveling or doing OG dynamis usually, but you could absolutely casually play controller only imo
Evan Clark
If they ever borrowed ARR's way of controller mapping action I'd be up for that, but cycling through macros is slow as shit compared to just hitting the number I needed.
Nathan Sanders
Better than the tranny faggots making those shitty "home" threads for the wow dumpster fire.
Juan Edwards
I tried using my PS4 controller and for some reason it's wonky as shit. I've used a logitech gamepad before without issue so I'm not sure what's up.
Daniel Scott
Well, people actually talk in LS to arrange people to do shit that's relevant content, for starters, unlike XIV.
Juan Long
Global cool downs, little variety in how you can approach situations, takes forever to get to what few cool abilities a class does have, just a lot of tedium in quest design, boring world building, very low skill ceiling, etc.. That's not everything, but, that's what came to mind. The last MMO I enjoyed was Runescape and that was primarily due to the writing and quests being clever.
That sounds interesting to be honest. Even if it does seem a bit overwhelming, but, I'm not necessarily turned off.
I enjoyed FF12, so that's a positive in my book.
I didn't hate XC1. So I could tolerate that.
Wyatt Nelson
I do dislike that if you don't want to suffer inventory-swapping hell if you play more than two classes, you need to pay extra monthly for the extra wardrobes.
Benjamin Rivera
FF XI mobile when?
Tyler Martinez
I want this so much so I could craft no matter where I go.
Bentley Wilson
This is actually the most unfortunately part of the game as FFXI's biggest draws is its equipment system which uses so much fucking active inventory slots.
Jordan Russell
What DGVoodoo settings do I need to run this game the best on a good computer? I don't know what any of these fucking settings mean.
Kevin Wood
>reinstall, go to level for old times sake >20k exp a kill Holy shit what are these modifiers, this is ludicrous.
EXPing was replaced by CPing, basically modern day Merit PTs. Difference is that you need to be ON the job you want Job Points on instead of getting Merits on another and swapping.
Jackson Roberts
It's also the mental gymnastics of trying to remember which gear you used on which class when you swap shit around, due to so much of it being usable on multiple.
There's the windower add-on for it, but I prefer the modern XI windowed mode these days which doesn't fuck up the alt-tab display.
Jason Wood
it helps getting a linkshell from a linkshell concierge to ask the oldfags about literally anything
Isaac Sullivan
>tfw no non outdated lewd art of this game because the only people who played this game to know any of the characters are bitter boomers whove moved on
Ya i know just takes a ton of time for the other shit to get them to the max ilevel 119 AG. Doesn't help i just looked up these Ambuscade weapons and they have almost 30 more damage than my ragnarok. I guess the power creep has been real the past 3 years.
Camden Carter
mithra and cute hume females are absolutely a gift
Evan Myers
>Difference is that you need to be ON the job you want Job Points on instead of getting Merits on another and swapping. Which makes it insufferable to grind points on non-DD classes.
Michael Baker
This. The entire thing was designed around a ps2 controller to begin with.
Thomas White
How in the absolute fuck do you make an account for this game
Lincoln Richardson
Definitely for casual play. I can understand endgame players opting for keyboard because it's more responsive, but nothing beats chilling with a controller as you comfy grind.
Michael Ward
PlayOnline is the first boss of every FFXI player. I've made three accounts over my life for this game, and I still can't recite exactly how to operate POL.
Chase Myers
anchor post so I can read everything later
Kayden Stewart
Also typing out commands is faster and sometimes ideal when using Windower/Ashita addons.
Elijah Ortiz
Help me Yea Forums I'm sick of the FPS drops and I just want the game to run the best it can on my PC.
Ethan Bell
I'm sorry bro, I don't use that program because my PC somehow handles it fine for me.
Is Savory Shank still the best moogle item to get if you want to make a quick buck selling something?
Jack Taylor
>tfw you made up your mind to quit the game after a couple months of thinking it over >a couple days later the LS announced I was getting the next relic weapon
that was a rough conversation to have
Chase Williams
dgVoodoo did squat for me, but someone on BG wrote a DX11 wrapper which helped my performance to the point of having perfect 60fps playback w/ the windower plugin.
Connor Ward
Depends on the items available but generally yeah
James Perez
Seconding era being very chill. I've been on here for years playing super casually and have never wanted to change servers
Blake Nelson
link
Oliver Green
I turned a few normies on to this game and it ruined their lives. Found out they were playing it years later. Lmaoo
Luis Sullivan
There's a special place in Hell for people like you.
Charles Turner
What is the best job to start in a server like Era?
I only played the official server and reach level 45, so I don't have any real idea, i've been doing all the quests alone.
Austin Harris
Does anyone wanna party me while I level my Warrior subjob from level 1? No trust shit, just you, me, and some mobs outside town. :D
You're going to kill one crab and be at level 30. You're fine.
Joshua Campbell
Asura
Jason Long
Should have figured, I goofed not ever getting a world transfer to the big server.
Jayden Brooks
is it fine if I buy the steam version?
Colton Wood
Its on sale for 9 dollars from squenix.
If you do buy the steam version don't use steam to launch the game. Use the key to register your shit and download the client from the playonline website.
Jace Bailey
woah wth you smart boi. I'l do exactly that
Jack Collins
Also to note, you can run the Steam version without Steam open also, but the reason for downloading it from the POL site is because the updated installer hasn't hit Steam yet (it's got an ancient version of the base to update from), and it'll save you 4-5 hours on the update process.
Grayson Taylor
So to sum it up. Buy steam version, register and play on non steam launcher?
Jason Morgan
I don't know if I can bear partying without Shantotto ohohohoing nonstop anymore.
Josiah Wilson
Make your own macro that ohohoho's.
Jose Hernandez
yes
Elijah Ross
Yes; use Ashita.
William King
I mean you could always solo every job by just going /bst, but /bst required skill, luck and hard work where as Dnc was just afklmao while stabbing stuff
Nasomi literally runs individual servers per zone like an idiot.
Levi Hernandez
Era tried the cluster thing for a while but it caused all sorts of bugs with party invites, alliances and other shit so they've gone back to 1 serb.
Carter Edwards
was someone shouting to sell gil?
Tyler Miller
DSP ought to get a proper-ass refactor on its core, given how old that project is. The folks working on both the XIV emulators already got multi-server business down without an issue.
Lincoln Ross
Yeah, he then did this after but I didn't get to see what happened as I had to go to work
Go away weeb shill. Also WoW classic does not have sharding. They'll be layering worlds (entire pop of azeroth) and bring them together a few weeks after launch for congestion. People wont be disappearing like sharding.
Anyone that played vanilla knows how terrible servers were back then. This is a reasonable solution to the queue times and crashes.
William Price
Even with that in mind, the game shouldn't slow to a crawl when more than 10 people are on screen.
Chase Long
>no flood detection to auto-mark shit as spam
Cooper Myers
Fuck off Blizzard shill.
Christopher Murphy
>45 days since making character >can finally do the gobbiedial stuff >get mostly shit with all these saved up keys but also get a pretty sick 99 drk piece worth a bit of gil neat *sip
a few years ago, they have that event with the frogs and the guessing game in the city zones.
I played it for literally days, I got thousands of SP gobbie keys from it.
I got nothing good with any of them, that's some insane luck to get the WoC rare drop from it.
Just farming the pop items for WoC is a pain in the fucking ass (because of Warden of Love), and then finding a competent group to beat it is still hard as fuck to do today.
Gavin Rogers
FF11 geniuenly sounded like an awful game from the stories I heard so no thanks. >B-BUT THE LONG TEDIOUS SHIT WAS MADE THE WORLD COME TO LIFE No its what filled the game time quota and forced you to do other shit.
I was the 42nd person on Hades server to get Maat's Cap. I kept a diary during the time I was leveling jobs for it, on what the parties were like who they were with and my progress. I ended up getting burnt out and had to take 2-3 week breaks during lvling Blm and when tryin to clear Rng Maat (Rng was the only fight that ever gave me trouble).
yeah but it lags like fuck
Benjamin Martinez
Habit. Last I played was twoish years ago. FFXIclopedia was good for older stuff. They have detailed information on pre SoA stuff, but didn't even have a section on Omen yet. Seems like they are getting up to date.
some people exaggerated or those people usually either leveled hipster jobs that never got invites (like drg, pup or smn) or they were the shy type to never actually form their own parties. if you were willing to be social, /tell people and form your own parties there was no real grind. If anything it took about the time time to get to 75 back in the day as it did for a WoW player to get to 60 around the same time. Sky access can be blasted through in an afternoon. Rank missions (for sky/dynamis access) about the same depending on your nation. Sea missions you can do in a week, basically once you clear 3 Paths (Mission 5-3) you're 2 real life hours from Sea access. With those CoP missions though where most people got stuck was on Promies and Sacrarium, probably the two longest and most annoying parts of the whole thing.
Jordan Peterson
Nah, I enjoyed playing FFXI in the past, but I'm busy playing games that don't have ridiculous gearswap macros, like DDO.
Jacob Cook
Is soloing viable? And is Blue Mage soloing viable?
Yes, only the really hard endgame stuff can't be soloed. Yes.
Henry Moore
Yes, other than some endgame events. And yes, BLU is excellent at it. Especially aoe nuking older content.
Hudson Thomas
oh forgot and yeah some jobs can just solo to 75 by themselves, like Blue mage, Black mage, Dancer etc. Blue Mage you'll get 75 pretty much from just farming/collecting your spells. When I leveled mine I basically set out killing DC mobs that drops spells i need and by the time I unlocked the spells I'd be ready for the next set of spells.
Ryan Lee
Don't play BLU in retail, it's fucking hell trying to get your spells now with how quick things die
Too bad the game is shit now since they tried to to kill with XIV by releasing the 99 garbage and invalidating decades of work.
Jacob Nguyen
There are novelty weapons that do little damage. If that's is still an issue, then Dia does 0-20 damage per cast and gives the mobs TP. Then summon healing and support trusts that don't attack.
Asher Parker
The Dark Knight job quest has you fighting a large number of enemies with a weak greatsword, so you might want to level that weapon's skills first. Warrior can use all the weapons so it's the best job to level up to 30 on, and you can use it as a sub on DRK. Warrior primarily uses axes though, and has the highest skill with them.
Nathaniel Phillips
I'm having a blast playing BLU in retail and collecting my spells. The only one I've had trouble getting is Pinecone Bomb and that's just cause the fucking trees won't cast it.
Tyler Wright
if you start the alchemist quests, they give you a one-handed sword that does 1 damage you won't kill anything by hitting it that way. Physical magic is dependent on the accuracy of the melee weapon (tied to weapon skill level) and not its damage, so you beat on the thing with your 1 damage sword to feed it TP until it uses your skill, then you slam it with Hysteric Barrage. Or uh... Bludgeon
Andrew Williams
I let this game ruin my life in high school. I lost my girlfriend and my grades turned to shit. I still don't know how i even got out of high school when i was trying to play this game 9-10 hours a day. My fondest memory was when i hit level 30 warrior i got the quest to become a samurai only to have my group wipe to the boss that you popped. I cried like a bitch and my mom was yelling at me to go to sleep. Took me almost 2 weeks to grind enough money to pop the boss again. I always wanted to go back and play the new stories but i moved on with my life after ToAU.
im fighting tooth and nail for my account info back. I just wanna come home
Juan Perez
I haven't subscribed in like the last 8 years but I never uninstall. I always dream about going back. But I know none of my friends are there now, there's no one to show off my accomplishments to. Not to mention I have no time these days to do scheduled endgame events.
I've tried other MMOs but they're just not rewarding. FFXI is legit one of the best JRPGs I've ever played even outside of MMOs
tbf you upgrade the same old job armor and weapons and they are just as relevant as ever. they even released Lv99 Dynamis stuff a little bit ago. its same the game of minmaxing multiple sets and doing awkward math with DW/Haste/S.TP calculations as it always was.
Leo Young
did they ever do shortcuts for updating the Abyssea armor? I only ever +2'd my BLU pants. Dat blu skill though.
Kevin Brooks
Dream rod or some other similar 1dmg club. Also certain spells you can trigger to happen when you want. Like with learning Refueling the Bomb Clusters will ALWAYS use it if you cast slow on them, so you just whack them with Sprout smack and they'll use it.
Also TP feed is also why /bst is fantastic for learning blu spells. Bst pets feed shitloads of TP to a mob (like 150~200 a hit) and vice versa, so you just get a nice tanky pet, get the mob's hate on your pet and just chill until the mob uses the ability you want. You dont have to heal yourself because some throwaway pet is getting hurt instead and you dont have to worry about the mob dying before it uses it's TP move.
Jace Hill
One of the amazing things about this game is how so much of the populace manages to be completely retarded. Half of the people playing a damage class can't handle an Ambuscade gimmick as simple as "Don't WS while its shield is up" and over half of the healers can't handle "run out when the monster is at 10% and everyone else is running away" With that said the game is super fun, but I wish that content outside of Ambuscade had meaningful gimmicks. Far too many fights boil down to bringing the right class combo and just burning the fuck out of it in 2 seconds.
Lincoln Rogers
>100 levels of book burning Yikes
Brayden Martin
Honestly, most newer content and whatnot is absent from that site, only bg is really up to date with modern stuff.
That said, FFXIclopedia is better for all the older content such as missions and quests.
Carter Robinson
>Yoshi "I'm going to kill FFXI so you have to play FFXIV and buy stuff from the cash shop" P He literally said the opposite of this.
Gabriel Cruz
Who here enjoyed the game for the simple FEELS of it? I never read the cut scenes, I was usually always LFP, I got some affluence in end-game here and there pre-2010, but fuck me if all I wanted to do was wander around the zones, listening to the music and looking at every detail. I hunted the most obscure NMs for useless novelty items. I spent a whole month in miseraux coast to hunt Upyri for his Vampire gear to sell for my Haubergeon (to go with my Optical Hat). I fell asleep to the music, awake at odd times during his window, getting fucked over by newcomer RDM. I was paranoid, afraid, blanketed by beautiful music and scenery. It was my life.
Also, tell me if you're a San d'Orian, if you don't think King Ranperre's tomb and Ronfaure arent the most magical fucking places on Vana diel.
I want to make a VR meditation zone in ROnfaure one day. Just relax and live in these zones, Konschat highlands during a storm, passhow, Zi'tah in the rain, the dunes at night...
Yoshi-P is responsible for the worst era of FFXI, they only fixed it once he left.
FFXIV flopping and needing to bring him on was actually a godsend because if it hadn't happened he would have stayed on the XI team fucking it up for longer.
John Smith
The only job that I could think of that might need to use books nowadays might be BLM Otherwise everything else should could naturally or require very little grinding as long as you're not powerleveling Wasn't it also Yoshi who began to fix FFXIV up to 1.23 before nuking it into ARR? It's a shame, because 1.23 had a lot of promise
