Good fuck Bioware, and Fuck EA.
3.7 million is bad?
>ruin DA with first sequel
>ruin ME with first sequel
>every game after is awful
retarded pikachu.tiff
3.7 million more than it deserves.
Fucking nier sold 4 million
For a AAA game, most of them need to cross 4-5 to pay for its development and marketing.
for a multiplat game of that budget? absolutely
mario party switch is nearing 7 million sales
That's slightly higher than I expected
Much higher than Crysis 3 and Dead Space 3
That's more than Bloodborne
>make a shit game
>still manage to sell 3.7 million copies
Fuck video games holy shit
Days gone is also selling shitloads
Meanwhile actual good games like DMC5 only managed 2 millions
they probably spent a lot more than normal on marketing too since they had plenty of tv commercials
good, hopefully all those untalented lefty cunts can't find another job.
I just can't figure out what could possibly be going wrong for bioware
For a AAA game 7 years in development hell? What do you think?
And nothing of value was lost. The Bioware we all knew was gone for quite a while amyway
Did you play Anthem? It's AAA in the same way Days Gone is AAA; as in it's AAA in name only.
Yes.
For this type of game, yes.
This is a AAA game that's been in development for like 7 years or some retarded shit like that by a huge studio.
Even if they didn't even lose much money on it it's still bad, since it was a fuckload of years of potential growth that were squandered.
>make shit game
>people say it's a shit game
>"WOOOW GAMER'S SURE ARE A TOXIC BUNCH!!"
>it's the haters' fault!
Somehow Bioware have become even more delusional and retarded than EA
fippy bippy my nippy
still too much.
it's not that great for a AAA, especially with all the extra dev they had to do to debug it over and over after release.
>gigantic marketing campaign
>6 years of development with zero to none progress
Extremely bad
They prolly spent 50-100 million on marketing. Realistically they prolly spent 100 million total overall. 3.7million sales x 60 dollars doesnt even cover those costs.
It's "bad" in the sense that the shareholders tell the publisher they want them to sell x million copies and if it doesn't exceed that mark then the game is a failer. Most of the problems of AAA these days is the fact that shareholders think that infinite growth is possible. That's why gacha and games as a service is being pushed so heavily.
Shareholders see the competition making 7 gorillion dollars from loot boxes and they go "ok we want you to make NINE gorillion dollars for us"
(No! It's the consuments that are wrong!)
There's so many games that deserve to sell just as much.
it was supposed to sell 6 million in the 37 days
so a huge disappointment for investors
especially since EA had promised them additional millions in revenue through lootboxes and dlc which seems very unlikely now
Sarkeesian is actually pretty hot compared to most of the other women in that image.
AAA doesn't refer to quality you moron, it refers to budget both of those games had inflated budgets mind you.
>company dies due to poor management for the nth time
>"it's your fault"
Well shit guess I should fashion a belt with all those heads of companies I've slain and proclaim myself as the shitty company slayer
1 or Automata?
let's do the math
>3.7 million x 60$= 220 mil $
>the cost for the game was something like 200 mil $ with marketing
yeah, was a failure.
it is when you spend 100mil on marketing alone. ea has never been interested in trying to reach their primary audience, they were going to buy the game anyway, they want to reach people who usually don't play their games or games at all and how? by buying ad time on TV and banners on public transport and that kind of shit is expensive as hell.
3.7 million people are fucking idiots
It's probably not that bad, but I'm pretty sure if we knew the actual budget it wouldn't look that good.
>Developed for PC, Pro, X, PS4 and Xbone
>200+ dev team
Yes
Seems like a lot to me. Way more than trash like this deserves.
As if every penny from a sale goes back to the publisher. And like others have mentioned, Bioware could have shit out two games from their established franchises during that time period and easily made double that.
It's even worse when you realize this game was development for many years. 0% chance the game made it's money back.
More like million 3.7 x 5-10$
NO HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN BROS???
I NEED MY FULLY GAY ROMANCES!!!
After 2 years.
They should have sold 5mil copies only to recover money spent on marketing
>game with RPG stat mechanics
>"a stat screen will be added in an update months after launch"
Jesus Christ.
>It's a fucking broken piece of shit
>still sell millions
Fucking why the fuck you enjoy wasting 60 burger bux
>BIOWARE IS DEAD
Good
Now people will stop blaming EA for Bioware's bad games
they must have spent 60-80m one marketing alone
so no way that working on this turd for 5 years only cost 120 m
AAA is usually 150m+ to develop and advertise. Anthem didn't cost that. It was a more modest game.
Bioware is dead. Bury it. Consider this a mercy
Still a huge success
>barely any publicity
>small budget
They were calling already calling it a huge success with just a million copies sold
That's because at the end of the day stats truly meant nothing. All the under the hood stuff was independent of it and only now do they try to reverse engineer the stats actually mattering.
>>the cost for the game was something like 200 mil $ with marketing
Source?
Does DMC have any substance besides being a spectacle fighter?
>It was a more modest game.
What makes you say that?
Also, the end product itself usually has nothing to do with cost. Marketing, time and dev size is the big things that makes something more expensive, and Anthem went hard into every one of those.
>Your yroduct fails to meed customer's desires and fails
>Blame customer
>These people also calling others "entitled"
Fuck those hypocritical niggers, I hope they end up on the streets after EA throws them out.
>Mass Effect Andromeda sold more than this
Jesus Christ, way to kill your popular franchise for this
Oh yeah, isn't the strongest you can get in the game the basic starting gun, and all armor removed? Or have they patched that?
The players, especially reddit were douches though. They constantly tried to compare it to other games that had more time to patch their shit. It's not like bioware developed those games. They're not gonna know everything about the genre right away.
Actually, a lot of devs were shipped out of the project to other EA projects and DA.
Until I see some hard evidence, I'm going to assume the game was 150m$ at most with advertising.
It wasn't just the starting armor. Everything was scaled and some abilities did damage completely independently of they equipment despite the equipment saying otherwise. It's very clear the looter shooter aspects were tacked on at the last minute in a bid to make a vehicle where they could sell microtransactions.
After EA scrap Bioware they will still control The Mass Effect IP.
Imagine they made Anthem but based in the Mass Effect universe. Hot fucking cakes, even if they didn't bother fixing their mess before launch
Depends on how much time/money was spent developing it. If you spent counting on your game to sell 10m copies, it doesn't fucking matter if you think 7m units sold is a good number.
The best are the comparisons to Warframe. Warframe has had 6 whole years of development AFTER RELEASE and has been only "huge" for the past 2 years. I think companies overestimated what Games as a Service can do.
>They constantly tried to compare it to other games that had more time to patch their shit.
No fucking shit. That's because Destiny 2, Warframe etc. are Anthem's competition. Of fucking course they'd get compared
> It's not like bioware developed those games. They're not gonna know everything about the genre right away.
Cool whatever no one gives a shit. You sell a game for $60, it better be worth it or it would get skewered in reviews. Even F2P games don't get this excuse anymore. Because people's time is valuable.
Nier had the budget of a bag of potato chips and a few chains to keep the 5 interns chained underground.
Maybe the first one.
>Games as a Service can do.
is not a good business model. most games die out after a couple of months. Very few actually succeed.
>publishers make 60 bucks from every copy sold
lol they wish, they have to pay platform royalties to Sony/MS/Nin, they have the costs of the physical stuff, they have the retailer's share, figures get better with digital sales but it's still not 60 bucks per game sold, maybe if you add DLC preorder bonus and shit you could reach 60 bucks or higher
It's a good business model when it works
Faggots still be playing Poe and warframe
You have to be actually good in orther to make it a spectacle
>all the data and market research is already out there
>can't even do 10% of it right
If it was some ambitious groundbreaking and cutting edge gameplay, mechanics etc. I could understand but it was literally generic: the game with nothing new going on in it.
>only
that's 3.7 million copies too many
So? that IP was damaged goods after the first game anyway
are you guys really surprised?
the e3 presentation was a huge red flag.
Automata
They consider 7 mil to be underwhelming
>Generic: The Game
I agree. The instant I saw it I thought that it looked like a Marvel movie in all the worst ways. The game did nothing that hasn't been done by other games.
I'm actually surprised it was that low. Not because it's a good game, but because such a big, lowest common denominator, heavily marketed AAA behemoth seemed guaranteed to hit at the VERY least 5 million. Maybe normalfags are finally getting sick of live service games.
those woman are not in charge of the company my man. Bioware's higher ups are full of themselves and think they can magically make shit happen at the last second. that kotaku article was truly enlightening
PoE and Warframe are huge games that got a ton of development and overhauls. From Destiny to Destiny 2 barely anything changed. Meanwhile Warframe got two open-world areas and is getting ship to ship combat this year.
I don't even play PoE but I bet it's getting huge content updates like Warframe. The thing about these games is that they are F2P games that get massive content updates. Destiny 2 needed multiple paid expansions on top of buying the base game before it was even a decent game.
>BIOWARE IS DEAD
It died when EA bought them
Daily reminder that the E3 presentation was literally just a mock-up and the entire game had to be reverse engineered from that alone.
Jesus, that's even way more than I thought. I guess normies will buy anything.
That's because those games are free to play. If EA didn't charge $60 plus tips, we would have a different story.
But that doesn't change the fact the game is a steaming pile of shit.
>3.7 million
how the fuck did this shit sell that much
>Maybe normalfags are finally getting sick of live service games.
Live services are like gatcha games and MMOs, they can't coexist with too many others. There's only so much time and money you can take. They are much more expensive that a one-time-payment game.
Anthem core gameplay (Flying, abilities and shooting) are more then fine.
The problem is the god awful lackluster of content and horrible loot.
Should've gone the monster hunter route. But bioware is fucking bunch of retards sjw
t. got the game for 0$. it had enough content and had fun time for 20 hours.
after that it's shit
>vote with your wallet people! if you dont like it dont buy it and stop complaining
>everyone and their mother knows game is going to be a fucking dumpster fire, release , nobody plays it
>still 3.7mill copies and considered as failure
western gaming everyone
im still genuinely impressed that they managed to make a video game where the characters and setting were less interesting than andromeda.
they didn't make andromeda though, andromeda was made by the "B" team in Montreal, while the "A" team, the remnants of the leftovers of Bioware were the people who made Anthem
what? thats even worse than I expected .
looks like I dodged a cannonball instead of a bullet.
its fucking strange to think Bioware used to make one of the most prominent franchises in western gaming only 9 years ago
EA truly is a cancer that seeds itself and only kills
youtube.com
Which one?
>We made our budget back plus 20 cents
>this game is a success!
doesnt make it any less impressive of a feat. MEA had bland 1 dimensional characters. I couldnt even tell you the names of the main cast in Anthem.
this is a joke right?
That's actually more than I expected but still bad for what it was supposed to be.
Andromeda was made by the Leafcucks in Bioware Montreal that got closed down, I think it was the main team Bioware Austin that made Anthem.
Why do you think she chose video games? Mediocre women can't compete with qts so they go into areas where the competition is slim, although in this case not literally slim as most of those bitches are fat as well.
user, equipping gear MADE YOU WEAKER, they might have fixed it now but at launch, you want to know what was the most powerful build? Your starting level 1 rifle, and no other equipment. It outdamaged endgame setups.
Well not exactly, they were aiming for a 6m minimum.
>just be patient
>wait for them to fix some of it over the course of several years
>but make sure to pay full price for it now goy
what a faggot
>/r/XboxOne
I knew you faggots were shilling here.
search for kotaku how anthem went wrong
Thank god, the first good news of the day and Bioware will die before they can ruin Dragon Age 4.
its about 2 mil too many to be quite honest
MEA had some fucking awful written characters, holy shit. Gilbert especially was insane, it's funny how the token gay character also had literal brain damage.
>hi' I'm Gilbert, I'm going to fight with the ship's pilot and start taking the engine apart while we are moving at warp speed, don't you dare tell me to stop
Wasn't the original Dragon Age 4 already scrapped? It was supposed to be a story-focused Tevinter espionage game but that means no open world MMO shit so EA had them scrap that idea partway into development.
When your revenue doesn't cover your expenses (i.e. you lose money) then yeah, that's bad.
>IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT FOR NOT SUPPORTING THEM.
Glad to be of help
This probably cost as much to develop as GTA V. That's has sold 110 million.
>no romances
>beta male virgin protagonist Freelancer
Shoulda had romances BioWare this shit game failed cause no romances BioWare
Considering how absolutely generic and boring it has always looked, it's like 3.2 million more than it should have sold. Like one user once pointed out, their character design was borrowed from fucking GPU box cover art LMFAO
Here we go again, another game being frantically fixed to the state it should of been in on release.
Edmonton and Austin worked on it.
I played ME2 and was so bored I’d rather have played anything else. Not surprised it didn’t do as well as they hoped. Their games are too damn generic and boring. Tried the Anthem beta and you just stand in a circle holding a button for 5 minutes.
>something like 200 mil $ with marketing
More like $200M was spent on marketing alone. You're also acting like most of those copies were full-priced and not sales or pricedrops that happened within a couple fucking months of release.
>How To Code
wasn't Bioware always leafcucks? The doctors and the company was always canadian, what EA did was to open a studio in Montreal and give it the Bioware label because the government gives gaming companies gibs over there
ME2 was depressing, it was just Gears of War with a small bit of ME1 mechanics.
Bioware has been based in Austin, Texas for a while now, user, their first project was the TORtanic. EA wanted better control over them so they needed the main office to be in America, not Canada.
>That's has sold 110 million.
Dafuq, that is so insanely high.. is there a site to look these numbers up for big titles in general?
ME2 was also the first game they developed under EA's wing, surely it was a coincidence.
ME1 was released after they were bought but if memory serves me right its development was not done under EA's influence.
>within a couple fucking months of release.
Within a couple of weeks even. Some places dropped the price immediately.
Main studio is in Edmonton. Then they opened a studio in Austin who worked on Tortanic and later also helped develop Anthem along with the main studio. They also opened a Montreal studio but closed it after the Andromeda blunder.
en.wikipedia.org
Seeing the Diablo 3 and 2 numbers on there always makes me so sad.
yeah, i remember before the EA takeover the leafs used to vote Bioware one of the best workplaces in Canada. then they got sold out to EA, get used for tax purposes, have workplaces full of unqualified hires and produce nothing but trash and to top it all off they became Origin exclusive
For a AAA game published by EA that was in development for 7 years and was projected to make 6 million, yes selling only 3.7 is bad
Whoops, main studio still in Canuck, my mistake
D3 was free with some Wow deal for a while. And when the money AH was a thing, chinese farmers bought games ten copies at a time, ran a bot for a day, sold the gold, got banned then bought another 10 copies with the money they made. The player base was never half as big as D2 in the end.
Bioware has been dead for a while. I blame EA for that because the EA changes were largely the root cause of everything that went wrong and it just snowballed from there, but the fact of the matter is that they are nothing but a shambling corpse at this point. If EA shuts them down, there's nothing to lose out on because they haven't produced a good game since ME2. The company is a vegetable in a hospital bed, hooked up to life support. We've already mourned the loss years ago but it's time for us to move on and let them go. They're not coming back. It's time for EA to complete their cycle and just pull the plug. It's not a dignified death but at least they can finally rest in peace.
Don't forget Manveer got fired for harassing his white coworkers who were trying to work on the game in Bioware Montreal.
Jesus. That’s a lot of retards.
I honestly thought it would be around the 1,000,000 mark, at most.
I bet you also believe Disney made 1 billion from avengers.
>Bioware is blaming the bad word of mouth by the customers as why the game is seling badly
>did not expect the hostility when the game was released at full price unfinished when it could be "patched" complete later
These people really think the "gamers are entitled" meme gives them some sort of moral high ground against paying customers. Unless you are Epic Games and can buy your way to success, paying customers are your bottom line.
even nier automata sold more lmao
Bad word of mouth cause no romances BioWare
you know theres industry bloat when 3.7 million sales arent enough.. kek
>Teens Love Huge
Huge what?
3.6 million redditors and 0.1 million Yea Forums users who thought it would be fun "with friends"
we don't really know how much was preorder whales and how much was effectively bought after all the disaster unfolded.
Not usually
However, I can see this game's total budget, including marketing, getting near $250 million or so.
THat's all the time they wasted in pre-production, fucking around with Frostbite and then finally making the game
6-7 years of Bioware staff fuckign around, paying for the studio grounds and equipment they used and finally actually making the game, plus the big last-minute marketing push EA made.
3.7 * $60 a pop is only $222 million.
Meaning they did not even break even
lmao the funny thing is that you know this is bullshit if you've cleared the game.
The fucking crap story and uninteresting characters is what killed it for me.
Why they make me go walking around to find new missions when I could be tearing shit up as iron man is beyond me.
That IS the substance, creating a spectacle
did these literal wankers never play a RPG in their fucking lives
how is this level incompetence acceptable
I'm surprised it sold that much. This was obviously a game sold as a service. Barebones with content to buy down the line.
But what’s the point if it’s only single player?
I dropped the game when they dropped support for it. Kinda pissed that the co op is barely there and didn’t get put in properly.
>ruin DA with first sequel
da 1 was mediocre
>ruin ME with first sequel
me1 was AWFUL; their first game clearly intended for consoles and players who didn't normally play rpgs
>every game after is awful
bioware hasn't made a good game in decades
IIRC According to SuperDataResearch the game has only grossed 100mil whether digital sales, cash shop or physical, those were promising numbers back when despite all the problems it looked like if it sold a few million more copies it would cover its cost in March but with the game being dead and virtually unfixable(BW working on Dragon Age instead of fixing their mess and they're working with an engine literally not made for RPGs).
The game had a projected target of 6mil, it fell way short and ended up being an embarrassing launch and failure of a product. Those kind of numbers would be impressive for something like Devil May Cry 5 or Sekiro or something where those games weren't having Times Square ad space and massive ad campaigns.
huge hugs.
Tax rebates on their refund anticipation loans.
Would anyone have even bought it then? Even as a waifufag I need the game to be at the very least sort of fun. Also who even wants to romance the freaks in Anthem? There's tribal girl, there's hijab girl, and lots of ugly characters.
>likes to build clocks
Kek
>those games weren't having Times Square ad space and massive ad campaigns
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Didn't Fallout 76 get that too?
You don't understand how exclusives work, Bloodborne was only released one one console and during the early days of PS4, it cost nowhere near as much to make, the marketing was pretty much non existant and Sony paid them a lot just to make the game. EA literally failed to sell a game after spending a ridiculous amount.
I will buy this shit game if BioWare adds romances
>blame customers for poor sales
>"How dare you tell everyone your honest opinion on the game and it's miserable state?
how DARE you? our sales are suffering because YOU told your friends that our game isn't finished!"
Imagine someone having the nerve to actually say something like this, especially after all the shit that was revealed about their development process
Get over it
STAYVUN, WHERES THE CONTENT STAYVUN? WE FOUNG THE BUGS, THE BUGS WERE THERE IN THE CODE STAYVUN
>3.7 million is not enough now
The absolute state of game development in 2019.
Also the absolute state of 3.7 million idiots who bought this.
I didn't really follow F76's development so I'm not sure. I was unironically interested in Anthem despite nothing nu-BioWare made ever appealing to me.
Noped out after their first devstream only a few months before launch.
lol wrong lol
theyre going the disney PR department route of shitting on the consumer
Who would you romance, the hijab girl?
Being enjoyable to play
someone theorized it wasn't incompetence so much as some completely subversive game designer trying to play psychological tricks. "Players want to see bigger numbers," so they made new equipment have bigger numbers--even though it was applying some scaling formula that actually made your theoretical "bigger" your numbers weaker in practice! They could keep recycling that level 1 mob and see just how long looter shooter players would keep grinding away while debuffing themselves more and more with every level they added to their cumulative gear score.
Donuts. You can even see the curve of a donut in the logo.
Ugh, disgusting. I guess normies really like that pseudo-intelligent crap.
>IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT FOR NOT SUPPORTING THEM
It had nothing to do with the playerbase and everything to do with the fact that all actually talented people left the company years ago and were replaced with rainbowhairs.
another harvest complete .ea are just human reapers.
tfw my favorite rpg this gen barely sold 1.2 million
>they might have fixed it now
Dude, that shit is never getting fixed. To fix it they'd have to redo all the parts in the game that involve stats. That's like a full year of extra work easy.
Anita is fairly overweight. Clothes hide most of these womens fat, but most are easily 20-30 pounds over weight at the minimum. Look at how fat her arms are.
It's note even Bioware the one that would be dying.
Most of Bioware right now is made up of people who were kids when Mass Effect 1 came out.
Sounds very interesting, can you find a source. I want to dive into this disaster of a game and I need all the material I can find.
Hijab girl mechanic girl spy girl princess girl freelancer girl sentinel girl shopkeeper girl
Huge brains, girls nowadays love smart men
You think the industry would have learned that after WoW killed all those MMO's.
In some alternative world 3.7m sales is bad. In video games that is far above exceptional. Sounds like EA oversold on purpose to put dev/marketing money elsewhere, as clearly the game didn't get the money for development and marketing. Not that many games even make 10m sales, what did they expect? Something like a few hundred titles in the history of video games have passed 10 million. Passing 13 million puts it in the top 100 list of most sold games. Yet EA expected how much more for a looter shooter no one asked for?
Schrier's Kotaku article on what happened with development. Hate his opinions but the man is a proven insider.
Short version is that management had no specific vision for the game and E3 2017's trailer was one of those target videos instead of actual gameplay which is why it looked so much worse in 2018.
good
these cunts will pay their dues
God will be their judge
mark my words
>, it cost nowhere near as much to make, the marketing was pretty much non existant
Not exactly.
Bloodborne had a pretty big marketing campaign even having billboards and such.
bulging backpacks full of camping equipment
I genuinely wish I could just peek into that EA meeting where a guy tries pulling this as an explanation.
Doesn't matter how much it sold. EA actively encouraged folks to subscribe instead of buy, due to the week-long early access that Origin Access Premier subscribers received.
So the folks most interested in playing the game put down $15 instead of $60, then beat the campaign and did most of the post-game content before that month was up. Which didn't leave them much reason to keep subscribing.
If the game hasn't been on Access Premier, it would have sold more copies.
>Anthem
>60$
OH NONONONONO
He was right on some level, since it took a while before anyone found out that their equipment didn't work.
To be fair they are not in a proper mental state and essentially seek out cry closets
Got it for free with my 2080. Absolute disaster of a game. Doesn't help the performance is trash. Even with that expensive as fuck card I was nowhere near 60 fps at 4k. Not even a 2080Ti gets close.
Definitely not surprising when their average "workers" look like this
>fully reclines in chair
Tranny detected
Wrong. They did fix it. That starter rifle no longer scales like it used to, and they did a pass on item scaling in general.
They also changed the bit where unequipping your Support gear increased your damage, as having an empty slot now hurts your overall gear score (instead of helping it like it used to).
>put incompetent people together
>nobody knows what to do
>because of current social media education, nobody admit faults
>continue driving each over on the wall
>jump last minute for "medical reason" hoping people wouldn't notice you were as bad as the rest
who would have THUNKED
Too few to be successful, too many to kill Bioware outright. The slow bleed continues.
>tfw I never fell for the looter shooter genre
It took me 2 hours of Borderlands to show me that style just simply does not work in a game that has a lot of player interaction. It's fine when you're just clicking around, but loot just grinds action to such a fucking standstill that it kills any momentum that even an otherwise great game like Nioh would have had.
if you didn't call anthem being a bad game just based on the early footage you're a retard
it was always going to be an empty, soulless open world game with retarded gameplay
>U CAN MAKE FLY!!!11
wow... epic
I think some people fundamentally want that skinner box feeling and it's the main appeal of games. the gameplay mechanics of something like FEAR would feel excessive to them because they want to mainline all the floating numbers in the simplest way possible
unless they overhaul the game with completely new engine, i don't think they can fix the thousand loading screens issue
>It took me 2 hours of Borderlands to show me that style just simply does not work in a game that has a lot of player interaction
Same
I honestly liked Anthem's gameplay, but the progression system is fucking ridiculous and the lack of content just made it feel so pointless
I didn't actually buy the game though, so I have no regrets
One problem of Boredlands is how the game is based around a single active skill and the trees are all full of passive buffs. Those skill trees were based on Diablo 2 which had several active skills. it just doesn't work well with a single active skill and 7000 passive ones, it just fucking sucks.
It saw constant comparison to Division 2, which released only a few weeks later, and was in a far better state. There is no way you can twist that as unfair. 7 years of market research should make up the difference from not knowing the ins and outs of the genre. You could gather up a couple idiots from here and I'm sure they wouldn't make the same basic game design mistakes Anthem did. EA and Bioware are not some small family company struggling to cobble together indie games. They don't deserve excuses.
grain of salt though, always
people can point out issues around them easily, but nobody will ever admit and elaborate upon their own failings
>preys on the fear
Oh good lord.
>Japanese devs
>HOLY SHIT our game sold 3 millions copies, like WHAT THE FUCK, we weren't hoping for such a success, we made 4 times the money spent on the project. thank you for your support
>Western diversity pilled devs
>ONLY 3 MILLIONS COPIES????!!!!! OH NO NO NO NO NO NO I AM LITERALLY SHAKING THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING OH NO NO NO WITH JUST 3 MILLIONS COPIES SOLD WE CAN'T EVEN RECOVER A QUARTER OR THE BUDGET OH NO NO NO NO WE ARE GOING BANKRUPT OH NO NO NO. I BLAME THESE NAZI FASCISTS BASTARDS FOR NOT BUYING OUR GAME OH NO NO NO
Still made dozens of millions of dollars. EA wins again!
Literally still not made a profit, BioWare and EA lost money with Anthem
more than half of western game budget goes into marketing, typically. unfortunately marketing can't make a bad game good :^)
Good. Here's the funeral song.
youtube.com
The sad fact of the matter is that if you tell someone to buy something, there's still a segment of the population who will buy it based on the fact that you told them alone.
I don't know who these people are or where they come from, but simply demanding that they buy something is somehow enough to convince them that they need it.
Hence the aggressive marketing budgets which overinflate the price of the game: these games wouldn't sell anything without them, so they're requirements to even get their foot in the door.
Exactly
They bloat and burn the budget with over marketing and then the end product is of course shit
And then even when you sell almost 4 millions copies you still made a lose
I blame Hollywood. Somewhere along the line Western games decided that they needed to emulate the biggest waste of money on the planet and thus became the bloated corpses they are today.
It's fun and enjoyable
What else do you want more from DMC? Also if you get really good in a game like that you can pull some real good shit that will make you enjoy it even more, and also make you better at other video games
>nearly 3 months since release
>3.7 million units sold
That ain’t bad, it’s doing better than most nip made games.
You told me it would bomb, Yea Forums! Why did you lie?!
Anthem should have sold like 5.5m copies to make a profit though
Holy fuck
>reading kotaku
Fuck off tranny
But it bombed for BioWare and EA lol
Anthem made a profit it’s just that EA wanted it to be a big blockbuster seller.
Half the population has an IQ under 100.
It says something about the hyperinflated state of game budgets where 3.7m copies in 2 and a half months is seen as a failure
>keep pushing all your problems and blame on the consumer because you can't make a product that people want to buy
FUCK
OFF
>3.7 millions of retards bought the most generic Videogame: The Game in existence
What the fuck is going on, guys? Why people are so retarded? Why good games are flopping while the most soulless shit sells millions?
>borrowed
because the average person is retarded consumer cattle
BioWare used to make good games...this time could have been different....it might, you know, Old BioWare again...
Shoulda had romances
It's their fault for pandering to (and employing low-skill) SJWs. They've no one to blame but themselves.
Someone post THAT gif
>Now people will stop blaming EA for Bioware's bad games
NEVER. EA's part of the problem too. Scorched Earth on EA is what solves it. Its investors, executives, (SJW) devs, everyone. And when the fire consumes them all, from their ashes a better one shall rise.
i hang out with a lot of normies. peopld picked it up becsuse it looked like a f*n fighting game and because of ass and titties
>f2p
so it's competing with warframe now, with no updates?
>hyperinflated
This is it. Seems like giant missmanagement to me if you can't be profitable with more than 3 million sold copies.
Can't wait till this all comes crushing down, AAA was a mistake.
Can someone post the 62% chocolate, please?
It will be a glorious fire if the bill to ban loot boxes in games aimed at kids comes through.
Andromeda's setting would have worked much better as the plot for a looter-shooter. Imagine if instead of being "the pathfinder" you were a member of strike teams being sent to different planets for missions. Instead of the hub being a city for some reason you can't walk out of, each area/mission starts with you standing next to an assault shuttle that just landed.
Hell, since it's using the Frostbite engine, they could even give you a four-person tank/rover as your main transport.
"Destiny but Mass Effect" could have probably sold 6 million on name alone.
no mater how you turn it around, 3.7 million copies don't reach 100m dollars actual profits, which means it doesn't cover the cost of 7 fucking years of a dev that involved several hundred of people.
Yep a bunch of my friends bought it because it was Destiny, but better and you could fly! They even said it was the most fun game they’ve ever played when it came out. They haven’t played beyond the 2nd week. Some people always fall for it.
>Guy I know who's smart enough to be a major computer hardware engineer.
>Buys it day 1, calls it best shit ever, drops it 2 week later.
funny thing about destiny is it was the exact same thing - retarded consumer cattle bought into the marketing and then admitted it wasnt even good after playing it. being aware of how the world works is a curse when everyone around you are NPC's
>yfw shitterfield V sold more than Scamtem
They'd be better off pushing out Battlefront 2 F2P.
It wasn't times square, it was that hotel next to the convention center E3 is held at
It could still only reach the PS4 owners, unlike Anthem which had the potential to reach literally everyone.
So you're saying it worked?
Well it's a good thing neither of those exist?
>blaming customers for their vitriol
>surprised at hostility for unfinished product
how do i even begin to get on this many levels of delusion
THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR MASS EFFECT 3 YOU CUNTS. HA!
It's crazy because being someone who's on meds for depression I just know this is BW devs being fucking grown children. They're incompetent, immature and they don't know how to do anything without being led by the nose. Even at my fucking worse off the meds I never seeked out a "cry closet" during stressful months working on contracts and dealing with the fucking clients.
don´t companies have to justify their performance in front of their shareholders at least once every year?
so couldn´t i just by 1 stock in ea, activision or ubisoft and ask them why they keep alienating their fans with feminism marketing and identity politics?
>taking school shooter pills
shiggy riggy diggy
>"Destiny but Mass Effect" could have probably sold 6 million on name alone.
Not so sure on that. Andromeda left a pretty sour taste in peoples mouths and my gut is telling me that the looter-shooter style game craze is kind of over.
Source: My ass, but the fact that Division 2 came out not long ago and the silence around that game is almost deafening, to the point which tells me that no one really gives a shit. Destiny 1/2, The Division, now Anthem, I think people got disappointed one too many times.
Why though?
Borrowed a friends origin account for about a month, played some of it, it's just a whole lot of nothing but a bunch of headless chickens running around in long corridors and big rooms shooting lasers. It's almost laughable how shallow it is.
>still sold 3.7 million
Between this and Fallout 76, these fucks can’t keep getting away with it!
>hey guys our game sold poorly
>wouldn't it be a good idea to take all these team leads from this poor selling game and have them work on another one?
>alright let's do it!
whether they are killing themselves out of just being shit or self sabotage it is all on them and not ea
That's what they get for no romance in Anthem beta male virgin protagonist Freelancer
That probably didn’t even clear their advertising budget. Horizon sold 10 million with like 4 million in the first couple months.
Bioware has been spiritually dead for a long time, at this point its best to make them physically dead as well.
Like they could find anyone competent willing to work there. The studio belongs to EA. It’s full of diversity hires. You work 100 hours a week for extended crunch periods so the manager can get a nice bonus while you get potentially laid off. You can’t speak to your coworkers without memorizing a complicated series of code words they use to identify themselves and if you fuck it up once you get sent to HR and possibly fired. You work for EA and as a manager you have to rally a literal circus of freaks to meet an impossible deadline under design conditions you couldn’t possibly get passionate about.
>in front of their shareholders
No. The Board of Directors, who act on behalf of the shareholders.
STFU, fucking shill.
Like they’d care what some peon thinks. The rich shareholders are already upset, they don’t need you irl shitposting to get someone shitcanned.
Ok, so now what?
Stop trying so hard to fit in
>3.7 million is bad?
Their goal was 6 million, so yes.
They usually expect 6 million
>Anthem sells 4 million copies
>Considered a catastrophic failure of studio-devastating magnitude, EA literally executing their staff in the streets and numerous executives committing suicide
>Persona 5 sells ~2.5 Million to this day
>Atlus makes multiple spinoff games of it, an anime, tons of merchandise, announces a re-release, their staff are literally ingesting more cocaine and prostitute saliva than food
I love this industry so much
>unironically linking to plebbit
go back
Imagine selling almost four million copies of your game, a dream number for countless developers, and still be a massive flop. That's so fucking bad and hilarious at the same time.
>even selling over a million
Fucking idiots never learned
DMC3 has a very good story
go back, nigger
I seriously doubt the marketing costs were that high. Aside from E3, Anthem had been incredibly quiet up until about a month before the "beta". I frequently forgot it existed.
It's not that Anthem's been quiet, it's that most people including you don't really look at all the places Anthem's advertised - mostly physical spaces and paying streamers/"content creators"/influencers gratuitous amounts of money to play their game for like an hour.
Okay, that makes sense.
Not great, not terrible.
make me, incel
Good. Get woke, go broke.
I just can't stop laughing over an AI made to manipulate and screw people, but there being a note to be cautious about the environment from using paper.
It's called the "tentpole" system. One high profile success per quarter makes objectively more money than multiple low profile moderate successes. Successes. The potential for profit is significantly higher, and shareholders will chew you out if you're letting potential like that slip because you're not doing all you can to make the most money. The economic system only works if there's growth.
>But what’s the point if it’s only single player?
Im getting too old for this shit
>just vote with your wallet bro!
3.7 million people looked at Anthem and thought it would be a good idea to buy it, this industry is never going to crash as long as there is a fresh supply of normalfags every 5 years being wooed into buying the latest piece of garbage.
we need some new meme technology for normalfags to get hooked to, and leave us the fuck alone
I thought maybe smartphones were going to save us but apparently normies still like "actual" videogames
Yeah, but the launch of the first Division was rocky as fuck, and a lot of people dropped it early on; Anthem is more comparable to the first entry in a series, not the second.
Not to say BioWare didn't fuck up; the Kotaku article made it clear that it was entirely their fault.
