Their race bounces around a lot in that game. Auron, Wakka, and Yuna seem pretty consistently Japanese, but then you get characters like Tidus, Rikku, and Lulu that look white in-game, and then suddenly become Japanese as all hell in CG and character portraits.

I don't think anyone has ever complained about Aeris looking "too white", since she looks like a white person in every single material from 1997. The question would be on Yuffie and Tifa, and they will resemble their AC versions no doubt.
