Yeah but you also barely need anything more than attack dogs and time bombs to clear most missions. Fire-walk-with me for flame arrows and molotovs, black powder bombs are decent up to first half year but once you have smoke/HE/incendiary you have basic options for pretty much the entire first 3rd of the game.
Honestly, taking a bigger ship and more units is a much better early game rush, 6 is abysmally few units and even getting up to blowfish's 8 or whatever is a massive improvement
