I like FFX and hate FFXIII
X story > XIII
XIII combat > X
XIII-2 > X-2
The Paradigm system was better than anyone thought and I miss it
My friend
Understandable. And yeah the paradigm shifting was tight. Hell even the name sounds cool.
I love both!
why?
not all people see black and white brainlet
I loved X, and I liked XIII. Lightning's pits.
I hate both
Except X had lots of good things going for it; and XIII had a lot of problems???
This is such a 'graze the surface' argument.
10 was mediocre but at least I got to control my party unlike everything after it.
FFX has an enjoyable combat system though.
based
Paradigm Shift is one of the most underrated battle systems ever. Shame most people dropped the game during the 20 hour tutorial and just saw it as "press x to autoattack" because it was pure fun when it started opening up, like when you get to start customizing paradigms and bosses start actually forcing you to strategize.
>FF10
>Has various other activities to distract from the linearity of the game
>FF13
>There is literally nothing to do except keep monotonously walking down the hallway and killing more enemies.
t. someone that doesn't particularly care for either game
It's shit. It's just X-2's battle system except with 6 jobs instead of 20 or whatever the fuck and even more style over substance than even X-2 was.
FFX
>can backtrack
>can control all my characters in battle
>has towns
>has NPCs
Fuck you OP
I like FF13, but dislike FF10
10 just doesn't have well written characters. I'm not saying that Lightning and her crew are amazing, because they are not, but sure as hell are better than anything from 10.
When party arrives at Oerba and learn what happened... that short scene alone has more feels than anything we've seen in 10.
Sphere Grid was great, though.
That's Gilgamesh's fake brotherhood
I disliked X and hated XIII.
The redeeming factor for X was pieces of the story. Still, when I read an interview about how all the changes to how FF worked as a concept was intentional and not the result of supine incompetence I hated the game more.
I like FFX, but disliked FFXIII. I only played FFX when it came out and I was young, so my standards were relatively low when it came to story and characters. I didn't actively dislike any of it.
I didn't really like any of the characters in XIII, I didn't care for the story or world, and while, after reflecting on the game later, I thought the paradigm system was cool in concept, only a couple fights in the game required you to have a tight grasp of it. Even in those battles, it was basically just build up to stagger -> deal damage -> defend/heal, repeat. I wish more fights pushed the battle system more. Then again, since I didn't enjoy the main game, I didn't do any of the extra side quests/ bounties, so I don't know if those made it better.
Did we ever figure out what in the fuck op was talking about or is it just bait to have an ff thread?
UH, ALL THE FF13 FAGGOTS OR NIGGERS AS I LIKE TO CALL THEM, GET OFF THE FF SERIES BECAUSE ITS FOR FFX LOVERS ONLY, UNDERSTAND, CAUSE IF YOU DON'T I WILL MAKE FF13-3 ONLY PLAY BLITZBALL
>ff10
Soul
>ff13
Souxllless
Here let me shill this C-level YouTuber.
youtube.com
He probably speaks about ''flow'' of those 2 games:
>both are very linear
>true, you can backtrack in FFX, but what's the point? (other than collecting monsters for arena)
>XIII does not have minigames; X has, without a doubt, THE worst minigames in history of this series
>XIII doesn't have NPCs; in X they are pretty much useless
>no world map in both games
Just a couple of examples.
>X has, without a doubt, THE worst minigames in history of this series
HOL UP
FFX does have a world map of sorts once you get the airship. Basically a menu but it's there, you can revisit old areas.
>sorts of world map
True, but it's not the world map we're used to from previous games. There is no flying around and finding uncharted islands or caves, landing on places to find out what kind of monsters lurk there...
That's wrong. They are both "hallway" games but the execution of 10 is different from 13. 10 has you interact constantly with the people in the world and the relationships with everybody that isn't you or directly related to you is more personal. Side stories come on and resolve, characters develop off screen and reach their resolution, your pit stops along the way are filled with life, and everybody shows constant responses to the actions that the party members do or witness.
XIII does not have this. The stories are more insular despite the stakes being equally as big. Bart has plans that do indeed fuck everything up but you don't get to engage with anybody outside of the villains and your supporting cast for the most part. The only minors on screen are directly related to the cast and Cid is completely wasted. And while datalogs were an interesting solution to the problem of preventing exposition bombs, they was kind of a bit too much of kind of important information in those.
And once we dissect the story we find out that they both had nothing close to each other besides a surface level observation because they were both "linear" games. Despite 9 being the most linear game in the series
Paradigm and CSB is easily the best evolution of ATB in the series.
>Paradigm and CSB is easily the best evolution of ATB in the series.
I don't know, man. As a fan or trilogy I'd have to say Lightning Returns has the best combat.
I really want to see it again in FF. But, seeing how poorly LR sold, I doubt it will happen. Also, many people would probably boycott the new game if SquareEnix announces they're ''borrowing'' something from XIII trilogy.
It's very telling that FFXIII's plot immediately grinds to a halt once you reach Gran Pulse. You have to be told by THE VILLAIN what's been going on. The game can't be bothered to keep track of the side characters because they're not a priority, they only exist in context of the main characters.
X actually had towns and a level variety not to mention actually had side content and an endgame along with plenty of backtracking and characters and story that wasn't bland as fuck and every area felt different
>b-but they're both linear games dude
Yeah but X actually did it tastefully
LR isn't a party based RPG it might as well be a character action game. And while yes I liked it because it successfully dealt with the pesky things that XV goofed up on like magic and series recurring abilities there's no way that can work for a party based traditional FF game.
WoFF did a pretty good job with the ATB too though so that was kind of refreshing.
Just my opinion anyways.
Well, it's obvious then. SquareEnix needs to make more games that are not party based. :)
I love WoFF.
Sure. Long as they're spinoffs and aren't mainlines. I'm still in shock reeling back in horror from what depth is undoubtedly going to have to be sliced right out of the materia system to conform it into the confines of an action game.
I assume you're talking about VII remake. Well, changes are sometimes good; just look at the Resident Evil 2 remake. And sometimes, changes are bad.
Trailer looks nice, but I really want to hear and see more about combat system. If the game will be a complete spamfest, it won't be good. If every attack, be it regular attack or skill/special, has some sort of a cooldown, then I have no doubt I will like it. I mean, as long as it's not like Ni no Kuni lol
>sword is shaped like bait
subtle
Well, in FFX the main enemy is a giant fish, so...
Ni no Kuni 2 got improved a bit through it's eventual difficulty modes since that made it so the higgledies you used and abilities you used mattered and boss fights were snooze tier bore fests.
I'm not against change mind you, but since you've brought up RE2. It's kind of like avoiding what they did with Silent Hill shattered memories. For all the changes RE2 is still RE2 remixed story and gameplay and all. Silent Hill shattered memories however is not Silent Hill or even close. I think FF7R will be closer in faithfulness than RE2 but when it comes to core gameplay design I'll probably just sit on the fence since Square's only good action game in the past two decade is still KH2FM
And Left Alive was such a waste of money that it made me nostalgic for FME
The ONLY redeeming factor of 13 was its combat, and even then, it's ONLY when you get late into the game.
Adamantoise farming is one of the most fun things to learn to do in an FF, but before that, it's the most boring piece of shit you could ever play.
When it came to gameplay other than solely combat, it was shit. The discount sphere grid barely had any decision making, the gear system had like zero interesting involvement by the player. The only thing worth noting was that you went from regular weapons > ultima weapons.
"Minigames" SO BAD that you actually wanted to go BACK to the monotonous autobattling. Even if you're on the run from the police and exiled from the big city, you can still have towns. The plot was not an excuse to have zero out of dungeon content. It was just laziness.
When it came to music, there's only one track, Blinded by Light.
When it came to characters, they were all unlikeable. You have no sense of character from them, because they're always bickering about the most inane shit just for the sake of (melo)drama.
When it came to the plot, it was the most ass pull-y, nonsensical shit ever.
I absolutely HATE anyone who thinks 13 was a good game. It just lets me know that Squaresoft is forever dead thanks to people like you.
They know that flashy visuals are all they need to woo you over.
>It gets good 20 hours in
It still baffles me that people legitimately used that defense for XIII years ago on Yea Forums and didn't realize just how stupid they sounded saying it.
And you're a massive fag
I only enjoyed FF Tactics
FF12 was meh, all the characters felt the same, heard the updated version changed this but it's too late for me, for the original and its grinding of licence boards has put me off from ever replaying it
People never used that as a defense. Haters, however, did use
>it's 20 hours long tutorial
''arguments'' against it. Nice revision, tho.
>When it came to music, there's only one track, Blinded by Light.
And sabers edge
Serah's Theme
Atonement
Will to fight
etc etc
It's actually pretty easy to pick apart some things about 13 but it's foolish to even insinuate that it's OST was bad.
They absolutely did though. Just google the quote "It gets good 20 hours in" brings up a myriad of people talking about FF13 over the years.
Shit here's a Gamespot thread from 2011 with people arguing about it.
gamefaqs.gamespot.com
Not him but I went 3 pages into this thread and don't see what you're seeing.
I hate VI too.
You can play retarded all you want but ignoring the fact that the thread is literally titled "It gets better after 20 hours" and asks why it's considered a valid defense disproves literally everything you're arguing.
Here's a Giantbomb thread from 2010 of people talking about defending a game that takes 20+ hours to get good.
giantbomb.com
first two are good; second two are pushing it, but i know you're hurting for songs to even make note of.
meanwhile, other OSTs have songs with way more memorable, interesting songs.
>gamefaqs.gamespot.com
thread title: "It gets better after 20 hours"
post number 1, aka OP: ''Why is this an acceptable defense of the game?''
Please tell me you're just baiting at this point.
What the fuck are you talking about.
That's literally what I'm arguing. The other user said people twisted it to saying it was a 20 hour tutorial.
Jesus dude go to bed or something.
>shows a bunch of clips of characters stating what things are in FFXIII
>"uhhh what is a l'cie check datalog xd"
People are unironically too stupid for FFXIII or are just hypocritical, FFVII does a similar thing where a lot of terminology is introduced during the introduction, but no-one criticises it for doing that, only FFXIII gets that treatment
I would love to, but I can't. I'm at work. It's day here (shocking, I know).
Basically, what people in that thread were saying was ''I loved the game from the beginning'', and you conveniently ignored that because, according to you, it is not possible to like this game. Or take this moron for example
he hates people who have a different opinion. Do tell, how can I have a normal conversation with people like that?
Literally not the argument. He was saying nobody ever made the excuse it gets good 20 hours in. The fact that those threads exist discussing that exact quote is proof otherwise.
Stop jumping into arguments you don't understand, and focus on your fucking work you mongoloid.
But I like FF13 and hate FFX.
You seem to be angry. What's bothering you, user? You can talk to us.
>hurting for songs to make note of
Dust to Dust
The archylte Steppe
Chocobo de Pulse which coincidentally might be the second best Chocobo theme in the entire series.
The Gapra Whitewood
Desperate Struggle
when I say etc etc, I mean I can keep doing this
>way more memorable interesting songs
While this is subjective Hamauzu who worked on most of 13 also made the noted better songs in 10 and is highly praised by Uematsu himself.
As for the series as a whole. I'm uniquely invested in this series because I love it and all the music in it. And I can easily say that 13 is *almost* on par with 8. Just because you hate the game does not take away the fact that the music was great and was used great in the game. Even if Dust to Dust is bootleg Someday the Dream Will End in both tone and execution
>I'm losing, better call him mad!
If you're this shit at basic conversation I'd hate to see your work performance.
You can kill yourself now.
To be clear, Final Fantasy 10's ending is not a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger's ending, nor is the ending of Chrono Cross an homage to Chrono Trigger. This is due to the fact that the original ending is not canon, so the ending to Final Fantasy 10 was not intended to be a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger. It was simply to highlight certain changes made to Chrono Trigger by Square Enix's Development team.
While we have no official confirmation from Square Enix that the final ending of Final Fantasy 10 is a direct sequel to Chrono Trigger, the first person that said they've seen a screenshot of FF 10's final ending, which features the new mechanics used in Chrono Trigger.
For a game that was a game unto itself, it's nice to see Square Enix finally give Final Fantasy 10's players a reason to stay connected.
My work has nothing to do with FF13.
This. I never liked FFX, but I thought XIII was incredibly good. I never played much of LR or XIII-2 though.
>The other user said people twisted it to saying it was a 20 hour tutorial.
I said I don't see your "20 hour" defense. The only posts are that if you don't like the game early on you're not going to like it.
Fuck has this 6 hours in
I don't see anybody the majority even insinuating "20 hours" is an actual defense or acceptable.
based
I love playing as one character at a time in a JRPG
Nah, FFX is one of the worst in the series. Funny enough, I think I enjoyed FF13 because FFX killed my faith in the series so I went in with no expectations.
It was just so shitty.
10-2 is shit
11 is shit
12 is shit
13 is shit
13-2 is shit
13-3 is shit
14 is shit
15 is MEGA shit
Dissidia is shit
world of final fantasy is shit
type zero is shit
7 Remake will be shit
16 will be shit
17 will be shit
1-10+tactics for life death to square enix praise Squaresoft.
>we have people here who unironically like 13
This board is a shadow of its former self. Fucking young people.
Kingdom hearts and launch FFXV are shit, I agree.
Neither does your contributions have anything to do with the discussion.

>;)
>#18 Posted by TheHBK (5672 posts) - 9 years, 2 months ago
>But guys, really... give the game 25 hours and then it will be good... I mean, I dont really believe some of you are actually promoting that kind of thought. How games do we play besides RPGs that are even 25 hours and how much time do we give them before they get better? The fact that you have to grind for 25 hours means that, as a whole, the game aint that good.
>#28 Posted by jos1ah (333 posts) - 9 years, 2 months ago
>@TheHBK:
>Yeah I saw the "give the game 20 to 30 hours and then it'll get good" tip in a few reviews and that's just ridiculous. How many other games get that kind of a pass? I mean, even if I was 10 years old on summer break I wouldn't wanna do that.
Better get your eyes checked then.
It's just "Press X to do things" all the way through except sometimes you have to shift Paradigms and then proceed to press X.
>he thinks there will be Final Fantasy 16
>462347882
>Fucking young people.
Pedo.

>Pedo
so which is your favourite FF, user?
No arguments from me there. Fuck those too.
It's okay to be a fag with bad opinions. Just here to let you know that you are wrong and you will always be wrong, this is not for debatable.
I just haven't made it to FF13 yet.
I mean, I also haven't played 12 either, but I'd probably just skip that one at this point.
I love both nowadays. Although it took me until my second playthrough of 13 to really appreciate it. First time I played 13 I was actually disappointed and I'm pretty sure the reason is because I expected something of a carbon copy of earlier games, which is not really a good thing going into something new. I've learned since then to appreciate things for what they are instead.
I'm 31. Pull your head out of your ass you bandwagoner. Just because 13 was flawed does not make it unredeemable garbage on par with actual garbage like Left Alive.
I never said that's a bad thing.
I hate both
The good ones.
Dude if you like FFX and consider it classic FF you're a joke. The greats are 1-9 plus tactics. 10 is where the soul left the series.
pretty much this
>Just because 13 was flawed does not make it unredeemable garbage
Yes it does, and you meant to say that you are 15.
>it has no minimap so it's soulless
There's more dungeons and side activities in 10 than there are in 9 (a game with no extra dungeons at all)
weasel
"dungeons" FFX doesn't have dungeons and it has the worst side activities up to that point.
The only real greats are 5, 7, Tactics, and 10.
>if it has flaws it's as bad as the worst AAA game this generation
Fuck me why do I come to this shithole. Some people are legitimately mental.
Explain to an old fart like myself how holding x And up on the D-pad for one to a hundred hours is fun? No malice intended, It just is genuinly interesting how non gameplay players play games(or let them play themselves)
Fuck you *crack*
Get 10 off that list. Add 9 and 6.
This post is like those anons who post 3x3s with Nocturne, God Hand, New Vegas, Bloodlines, etc.
Woops, you accidentally revealed that you've never played FF13 in your life, and thus your opinion can be safely discarded.
>worst side activities
Compared to tetra master? 6's Colosseum? Those piece of shit moogle segments? Are you insane?
>doesn't have dungeons
I too have no clue what I would call the Omega Ruins. By whatever spectrum of measurement you're using, 12 has no dungeons either.
Get 10 off that list. Add 9 and 6.
YIKES!
I don't like 10, but no. Just... no
>holding x and up
The only game you can get away with holding "up" is 12 after you've fully customized your paradigms.
If you're playing 1 anniversary you smash X instead if using the tower of power
this is vrey accurate
>WoFF is shit
I regret the paths in life that you were forced to take that made you develop into a person who could voice an opinion this wrong.
>press a button to do things
So we're talking about every FF in existence now.
Don´t forget in XIII almost in the end of the game they give you a giant landscape full of nothing for you to go on errand quests for literal statues
Gran pulse is probably the (second) worst part of the game.
>have to opt into chocobos
>hard limited until you take your ass to do some sidequests
>but not too many or you'll overlevel the final boss
The only thing worse than that is the final dungeon itself. Which not only is the worst final dungeon in any Final Fantasy, but may very well be the worst final dungeon I've ever played in any game ever.
>literal moving hallways that serve as the ultimate commentary of FF13 as a game
>many of the encounters are quite literally several times harder than the final boss itself
>killing anything will overlevel you to the point that you shit on the final boss anyway.
Jesus Christ. I'm okay with a bunch of what 13 does as a game but;
>customization
>lack of character interaction with the rest of the world that they will end up influencing
>gran pulse (outside of Faultwarrens)
>final dungeon
are all pretty bad.
>If you liked that good turn based strategical combat and hate that retarded mess where the AI is doing all the shit for you, you are a massive hypocrite
Fucking retard.
OP was right, this thread is full of hypocrites.
>strategical
Compared to the rest of the series? Yeah. And I love 10s gameplay, but unless you bring shotgun to encounters it's you just play rock paper scissors combined with simon says. Still, it's like one of the 3 games in this series including 13 that have status effects of some kind that matter all the way to and including the final boss. The other being 5.
Both of them have shit customization though unless you're not a brainlet and know how to take advantage of Kimahri.
What the fuck are you talking about user
Ah, I remember being 13 in 2001 and trying to sculpt Brotherhood from a log with a tinyass knife. They were simpler times.
Yep. Both the games I listed are real FF, 10 isn't.
Niggers quick to forget that every final fantasy pre 12 is just
>Slight menuing to get to a buff/heal move every so often
>Else spam attack until enemy dies
Kino
I wouldn’t ask if I did play it, you stupid Igotyou-dog. Stop breathing you taconigger. I can smell your poor And uneducated essence all the way over here.
He is not me. I made the decision to not avoid to an obvious false invitation to information. Which it looks like I made the right call :^)
Fuck you and fuck FF IX. But not OST:
youtube.com
Chill.
But seriously, I can't play it these days. The ''battle intro and camera dance'' just kills the fun for me. Not to mention long spell casting animations.
highly underrated comment
>underrated
Is it?
Does WoFF not count?
Just play any of the new releases of IX and you can speed through all of that bullshit
How did you guys power through FFXIII's storytelling. Fuck me for being not interested enough to learn billions of terms and jargons. I realllllly want to like FFXIII jist becuase I want to play XIII2 and Lightninf Returns.
Either take a few minutes to read the lore or just basically ignore the overarching story. The jargon really isn't that bad.
You'll miss the bigger picture but you can ignore the datalogs altogether. As a disclaimer, the only thing that really matters to 13-2 and LR is the ending of 13. 13-2 is kind of so far removed as to be stand alone. LR is a direct sequel to 13-2 but the story of it and all the dlc is easy to digest
13-2 goes well of its way to tell you anything you need to know about 13.
>amazing ost
>paradigm system is fucking incredible
>great cast
>decent story
the only reason people hated it was because they were conditioned to throw fits if something wasn't open world.
But FFX also wasn't open world.
yeah well ffx wasn't released when the open world agenda was being pushed
I agree, that's why I hate both
XII was good though
only ff without a 10/10 OST
Hard pass
dude there are three words and a bunch of names that's it
the real issue with 13 was the english voice acting. it was impossible to play with friends around because vanille would be squealing like a pornstar.
Vanille is awful but everybody else is okay.
But it’s true I finished disc 1 and 2 on Xbox 360 and still felt like I was in a starting tutorial mission the game fucking sucks
why do the japanese like ff13 and lightning?
why are they like this?
why can't they just fucking ajklmgdaskl;hdb ;kla
Yikes.
I think I'm alone in disliking X's OST. I've played about half the series in part or whole and X's music to me is the worst by a significant margin. The only song I liked was To Zanarkand, though Otherworld is good for a cheap laugh at least.
>he thinks only the japs like Lightning
She's a 'model' m8.
I guess that makes you an interesting individual. 10 has some of Nakano's best outside of Dewprism:
>Hurry!!
>summoned beast battle
>Fantasy (which sounds lifted right out of dewprism)
And while not good on it's own Twilight is perfect in how it's used
Some great tracks by Hamauzu (who almost everybody in the industry on the square side loves):
>Thunder plains
>Servants of the Mountain!
>and while equally not good to listen to on it's own Challenge
To the End of the Abyss or w/e it's called is also p good
and the traditional feeling tracks by Uematsu
>Brave Advancement
>Lulu's Theme
>the battle theme
>all of Seymours themes
It's not wholly "Uematsu" but it's pretty damn good. Beats the hell out of listening to 1
the sad thing is that its a whole ass game they developed and just renamed and slapped into this game
Holy shit...is Yea Forums bots talking to bots?
I think overall it isn't nearly as consistent as the PS1 games but the way the good tracks were used made them all top tier, To Zanarkand being one of them (best intro music in all FF?), this track is the reason people think Uematsu had a bigger part in the soundtrack than he actually did after all, I dig the all the fighting themes too and many of the tracks in scenery with just random battles places kept the spirit of old FF and made up for the lack of a unique overworld theme.
He doesn't have shitty 6 and 9 so no
FFX-2 was the last FF game I ever even played.
This post is like those anons who go into New Vegas threads to talk about how good Fallout 3 is.
already posted and already made fun of.
>fal'Cie = superstrong beings that give special powers to humans, as well as focus (which is usually vague or hint, because fal'Cie are basically trolls); when they complete their focus they are turned to crystal for certain time (RNG)
>l'Cie = a human who received powers and focus from fal'Cie
>Cie'th = a human who received powers and focus from fal'Cie, but failed to complete the said focus (basically, they are turned into monsters)
You need to be older than 8 to post on this site, user.
literally no counter argument to the actual problem
The ''actual problem'' is the fanbase who praise FFX because it was the first FF game with voice acting. Which is kinda sad because games with smaller budget had voice acting... on consoles older than PS2.
They ignore each and every similarity with 13 with arguments such as ''yeah, but FFX had...'' and completely go off the rails with that.
It's better just to ignore them.
>the last good FF was X
And yet, they lurk in every FF related thread. Following the series that, apparently, died almost 20 years ago. Sad.
to everyone who think that xiii is somehow superior to any game (except xv) need to check xiii again for what it is. xiii was the beginning of the FF decline. if you see it different you have some intellect deficiency or you´re simply stupid. thanks for reading my blog, i´m outta here
what? Scroll up. There isn't a point that wasn't already addressed. Unless you're expecting somebody to start a fresh counter argument to a 15 minute video that gave you your opinion.
13 is a hallway simulator with a even more retarded plot and characters, I only liked LR gameplay but I still would never defend this shit in its entirety
no games plot is more retarded than 4's.
What is FF VI?
I didn't even mention 4
you know I was going to actually do a "yeah but" but upon taking a moment to think about 6 again I don't think I could argue against this statement.
>They ignore each and every similarity with 13
Because similarities don't matter if there are tons of differences that result in two different final products. It's mind blowing you need this simple line of logic explained to you.
I'm willing to give XIII a chance since I've been going through the series again lately, are the locations as varied as they were in FFX? that game actually makes you feel like you are going through the planet despite being a hallway and I really liked how all the characters had something related to their arc in each place even if the characters themselves aren't very interesting and pretty uncool actually. Is XIII anything like this?
>Because similarities don't matter
FFXIII haters in a nutshell.
FPBP
I mean, are there any Final Fantasy games that are generally considered to be decent in plot?
Nobody ignores that, they literally have the same game design its just one manages to handle it better than the other
X was the beginning of the decline and in many ways it's worse than 13.
You just cut off a sentence part way through in order to change the meaning. You can't do that and then respond to the straw man you've created like you are arguing with me.
they literally don't. the "same game design" is surface level at best.
For some reason idiots and analysts compare the two as if they play the same when the only similarity is that they are linear games using zones instead of a world map to drive the player forward.
10 has a myriad of towns, 13 doesn't
10 has minigames 13 doesn't
10 has a myriad of dungeons, etc etc
But people get really autistically fixated on "hey this has no world map and this doesn't have a world map either so they're the same"
when they're not and that argument is shitty.
Can CDB which is just a new form of ATB be compared to turn based? No
Is party changing the same as paradigm shifts? No.
Do the summons work even remotely the same? No
What about total map exploration, does 13 have an airship? No
They're completely different games. And I hate hearing idiots ape off of each others opinion on either side of the argument on things they've given as much thought about as the shit I took last night.
Not really
>Enjoy combat more
>Enjoy characters more
>Enjoy bosses more
>Even though your retarded point is haha you cannot hate the linearity its the same its not because FFX did a much better job to dress up its dungeon and has some mediocre puzzles on top and better mini games.
So nah 13 is shit.
I think FF X is okaish, FF XIII is irredeemable garbage and not even a real FF game.
>better mini games
>13
>minigames
I hate this episode
XIII doesn't even have a combat system wtf, just press X.
It's fucking garbage all game long you fucking zoomer.
Just because you put a lot of time into it and you don't wanna feel like it was a waste doesn't make it good.
Also it never expands, it always simple shit and you can literally beat the full game including optional bosses just pressing X, I fucking did.
You can beat every FF by just pressing X/A
No, I just give you an example of what you people do. When people compare these 2 games you simply take one segment out and make it like 13 is completely different game. It is true that 13 is hallway simulator. Noone is denying that. But claiming how 10 is much different because you can return to old locations (admit it, you never do that) is a complete bullshit. You know, I never called X hallway simulator, but I might now. You basicalyl go from location A to location B without having the option to go to location C or to something else because there isn't anything between locations A and B.
Not without moving your cursor, that's something only FF XIII accomplished.
This is all subjective and just how I feel.
>FFX: Pros
-I like 10's turn based combat where you switch characters on the fly and each has a specialty.
-I like 10's world and the art direction, its comfy and very pretty at times.
-I Like the sphere grid, it feels like a game in and of itself.
-Blitzball is my 2nd favorite minigame in an FF, or any JRPG, behind Triple Traid.
-I enjoy the end game stuff extras: dark aeons, ultimate weapon trials, extra dungeons, ect.
-Wakka is a great character.
>FFX Cons:
-Overall story is cliche, poorly told.
-Tidus and Yuna are irritating, and I find them unlikable until bout the last 20 minutes of the game.
- Some minigames are infuriating difficult, butterflies, lightning bolt dodge
- The game feels short and too Linear
- Unable to skip senescences making repeat play throughs a chore.
>FFXIII Pros
- Nice visuals with a lot of stye
- The end game opens up and is a breath of fresh air
- The Paradigm shift system is neat and allows for mid battle tactics changes
- the Voice Acting is pretty good
- Great Soundtrack
- Sarah is a QT
- Hunting Mega beasts is kinda fun.
>FFXIII Cons
- The Characters outside of Sahz are either forgettable or so awful I wish they were forgettable
- The First half of the game is so linear and scripted along with the borderline auto combat it feels like a "Cinematic Experience" instead of a game. At least until Chapter 11.
- The Paradigm system seems cool at first but ends up being very shallow, and there's little variety to what characters can do.
All in all I had issues and things I liked about both. But 10 still feels like a video game, and has a lot more depth in what you can do. Once you know how to break the sphere system and fully utilize Rikku's gear customizing, the game is super fun to fuck with. The end game content allows those who know these mechanics to use them and reap the rewards of their planning and work. While FFXIII is worth a single play through for the story.
You move the cursor when you choose different paradigms.
>only FFXIII
You can beat XII without ever having to manually do commands in combat at all
So what now?
Well, you do have to move your cursor when changing paradigm.
>. But claiming how 10 is much different because you can return to old locations (admit it, you never do that)
Is this the so called zoomer mentality?
Everybody fucking returns and it was one of the most magical things in the FF series and RPG genre.
atb is a shit system that needs to die but paradigm shifting/changing jobs mid battle is something that definitely needs to return
True awakening is realizing FFXII is the greatest game.
shut your whore mouth ATB is great.
Learn to menu faster nimrod
or just play WoFF and have shortcuts
final fantasy 13 was my first ff and I liked it
I think it's one of the best of the main line series and easily the best "post FF9 and Sakaguchi"game.
You don't even have to really change paradigms that much.
And even if you do, comparing that to cycling and browsing through several different menus full of different abilities and items is full brainlet.
I kind of doubt any of this is true
FF XII is MMO style, but thanks for admitting FF XIII isn't even an RPG.
the datalog is more interesting than the lore of any of the other ffs
Not saying he's not lying but people who think that unironically.
Sure thing, user. I'm a zoomer if that makes you feel better. At least I don't lurk and bitch in every thread, claiming how FF series died. On PS2.
>but thanks for admitting
Illiterate
>And even if you do
Which you do, constantly. Even for fights as easy as Secondly there's a difference between
"choose attack that does the most damage and heal with a side of buffs" and "use buffs and debuffs every single fight and on ALL bosses" "heal constantly with the full team" "swap to soak damage" etc etc
Fights in 13 take more thought than 1-6 (sans 4) because at least you have the possibility of dying when the game finally picks up. Max brainlet is some guy claiming XIII is spamming X smdh.
>Dissidia is shit
You take that back you filthy ape.
>Max brainlet is some guy claiming XIII is spamming X
People who claim that are exact the same people who complain about 'leader dies = game over' mechanic. If the game is easy and you can only spam X, then you shouldn't die in a battle. Right? So why complaining?
FF13 requires more inputs to do well than 10 does.
I never gave a fuck about paradigm shift other than "shift here or you're dead" and I 100%d the game, those mechanics aren't hard, you say you do all those things but you don't, you press a button and the game does it automatically, there is no actual depth or gameplay from your part.
I've completed every single final fantasy in existence and I can guarantee you XIIIs combat is the worst ever conceived and only borderline a combat system.
so you actually spent 30 minutes on the bosses instead of chaining? yikes
I think I get it, you guys have only played post XIII FF games and then fell for the persona meme.
I never expected zoomers to understand anyway, old FF games aren't even remotely similar to persona.
Yes, user. Buffs and debuffs exist only in Persona.
> I 100%d the game
How lovely! I've beaten 7 without slotting a single materia, beat 8 with a single character, and overleveled the entirety of 9 at the end of the first disc. Beat 1 with nothing but a team of 4 fighters in nes and anni. And I can go on. I love 'muh anecdotal' wars with anonymous shitposters
>i've completed every final fantasy
What a coincidence. That's literally me. However easy you think 13 is, every game in this series that's not 2, 4, and 10 are easier.
You may only press paradigm shift but you at least do something that requires you to react to what happens on screen because of the gauge all fights have.
Contrast this with literally spamming attack to beat a game.
>*strawmans*
Imbecile. Secondly buffs aren't even unique to persona and aren't unfamiliar with this series. In an average run of original 1 you'll be spamming FOG so you don't lose your 4 minute fight with Chaos in 2 minutes.
The way you're talking about them? Yes.
FFXIII is the only FF game that suffers from the "le debuff and buff" persona meme (because it has a terrible combat system just like persona), that is why I know you've never played the actual good FF games.
The only resemblance between old FFs and persona is a turn based system, literally only that.
People forget FF13 was suppose to be and was hyped up to be this game changing thing for the FF series, like a fucking mini series within FF similar to the FF7 completion but actually being worked on at the same time instead of a afterthought. having side shit like Versus 13 and those other projects being tied to mainline
it was just too ambitious and unfocused that it honestly killed Square for a long time
I agree, but you had played this games before to reach that level of deep understanding.
I 100%d FF XIII on my first playthrough without barely moving my hand from the X button and running forward.
no you didn't
Which as we've just agreed to with the presentation of a video is quite literally impossible because constant paradigm shifts are necessary to beat even the easy fights 5 chapters in.
So in ''actual good FF'' games don't have to use buffs and debuffs? You basically just use Attack command, with Cure spell here and there? How is that an actual good FF game, or an actual good RPG in general?
>deep level
There's nothing deep about "level up and then attack a boss". The only thing that's deep is light off the rails sequence breaking
>actual good FF games
1NES ALLIT FOG RUSE
2DoS Literal SMT tier buff stacking to take 0 damage
>3
>two nins and two sages spamming shurikens bahamut and heal
actually we're stopping here.
You've only played 6-10 anyways.
Yeah, the Fabula Nova Crystal thing was a dumb idea.
The other games (VsXIII and Type 0) ended up breaking away from the FNC
No you didn't.
Wada killed Square for a long time. FNC was just a shit idea in a series of shit ideas. Ivalice Alliance. Fabula Nova Crystallis. And pic related. All shit ideas that won't stop. By the by 7's it's own universe too and they've launched another shitty advertisement campaign to make sure you know that the side material still exists and that genesis is 100% cannon. Also why Kadaj's twink ass is in FF7R
>Also why Kadaj's twink ass is in FF7R
Do we have any confirmation for that? I didn't see him in the trailer that came out for State of Play.
He's in the voice acting credits for both english and Japanese. You can't get more clear cut than that.
Thats actually not really true
You get hamstrung for party and job selection all the way till you hit pulse so most of the time you have 3-4 paradigms to choose which are almost always going to have one thats the objective right choice for battles
Man
Ivalice was good in fft and ffta but ffta2 was a joke and other games werent much better
>He's in the voice acting credits for both english and Japanese.
Got a legitimate source?
but then there's putting in two copies of Relentless Assault to use the ATB refresh for maximum efficiency
You have the ability to make your own paradigms at what? Chapter 4? 5? About 8-15 hours before you get to Pulse depending on how shit you are at videogames and how much you read all that extra boring shit in the datalog that vomits exposition directly into you.
You don't get full control until GP but you are correct. You still get enough control that you have to actually engage in the systems or you can die and indeed people did embarrassingly die back when we were watching JP streams of it on launch.
doesn't help that the japs suck at anything more complex than the average neptunia
12 was alright. It's a good dungeon crawler I think. It's world building was also neat but I kind of preferred the world of FFT compared to whatever the fuck that was in FFTA2
Outside of prima games who coincidentally will be releasing a strategy guide alongside the games release? No. Square hasn't updated their shitty website and probably won't until next month. So don't take this shit as fact because I sure as fuck don't.
>So don't take this shit as fact because I sure as fuck don't.
I am not believing the "Kadaj is in FF7R" bullshit until I see him in the actual game.
/thread
>when that guy /threads a post made 217 replies ago.
Last good FF was FF IX, I'll fight anyone on that
>can't control your LB
>party members that aren't vivi or steiner get their one character development arc and then stop existing as far as the story is concerned
>Third worst customization system in the series
>slow as fuck battles that require x2 to even be playable
>all of that loading on the ps1
>absolutely 0 (zero) z-e-r-o bonus dungeons when Final Fantasy 3 had like 6 of the fucking things
>Tetra Master
>hot and cold
That shit was more linear than 10 lmoal
