Well, I just want to elaborate, by my question I implied that throughout different iterations of the game, while it was in development, the spotlight, it seems to me, was basically steadily shifting from "freaks" to "normies", with "freaks" being progressively more caricaturized in the meantime. What I see in it is basically a propaganda in regard to being content with any lazy bottom of the barrel human trash that just happened to decide it wants something from you probably BECAUSE ANY HUMAN RELATIONS PERIOD ARE PRECIOUS IN THEMSELVES or something. See, from what I understand, Moonlight Syndrome was basically a spin on Lynch. TSC differes from that considerably. That difference can actually be attributed to so called Moonlight Syndrome Truth Files, which were written by the same guy who later wrote Placebos, and which were the reason his collaboration with Suda became a thing. He was not just an explainer guy, he brought with himself a MAJOR shift into the so-called Kill the Past games, very much evidenced in Suda's writing itself.

Then theres the fact that VA-11 HALL-A is actually a bit of a setup to other things. the devs have said many times before that a lot of the worldbuilding is there for the sake of visiting it in a different time, potentially with a sequel, or something like N1RV a-nna or even Next Game

Like, it's, like, Romero and Petersen. Romero was or considered himself "number one" in id games' leveldesign. But it's Peterson who had influenced Romero (who started with Knee Deep in the Dead - but ended with The Living End, Perfect Hatred, Wizard's Manse, etc.), and it was Romero who was creating straight-up spins on Petersen's levels (Industrial Zone and Gotcha!). Petersen, in contrast, just didn't give a fuck, he just pushed forward with his own thing.

They're definitely not always the same but Jill is pretty fucking boring. Especially compared to the shit going on around her. I remember this one part where there's this thing happening with all of the androids, some kind of glitch that's making them malfunction? That alone was more interesting than anything that happened with Jill in the entire game, and it unfolded almost entirely in the background. The only remotely interesting thing about Jill is Anna, and their relationship is barely expanded upon. They don't even explain why Jill can see Anna when no one else can.

Characters can be mundane parts of any story, while not being boring within their own right. You're interrupting her character through events she's involved (or rather NOT involved) in rather than her reaction and interaction with those that are involved.

The first half of this game is absolutely fantastic, as soon as it starts focusing on Jill's dead girlfriend it turns to utter shit. Forget the complaints that you're just a bartender in this amazing setting, they still did a great job with the rest of the story up until Jill's own drama became the center of attention.

She's not going to be on the streets protesting against the White Knights nor be some actually powerful dissident like Gil or hacker tits, but because she has the ear of several influential people wanting to escape their status for a brief respite, her shit job gives her an unexpected influence on the setting despite just chatting with people and trying not to fuck up drink orders.

The original argument holds true to a large degree as does her catchphrase. She's there to mix drinks and change lives, nothing more. She's a John Everyman character done well without veering too far off into special snowflake territory which she falls into somewhat just for being able to see Anna

The Girls Frontline collab makes this game seem like it's bigger than it really is. You see many huge indies like Hollow Knight and stuff but most of them don't get doujinshi or mobage collabs.

Between the aforementioned doujins and GFL collab, there's the Galko collab too and the shilling accross vidya stores in Japan, it feels like a medium-sized franchise when it barely reaches the news. Their Twitter is also chockful of fanart, it's really hard to gauge the popularity of this game.

There have to be something specific that keeps helping you that could be taken directly instead of smoking all this shit into your lungs. After we hit 30-40, our bodies start to shut down copy correction build-in "software" and you don't want to die from lung cancer. It's very long and very painful.

More so for visual novels IMO. How many of the popular ones would be there at the top if not for their waifus and sexy graphics? The story is usually just long stretches of whatever with some drama tacked on at the very end.

This right here tells me that you're not one for appreciating the little things in life. Why is being able to make a custom playlist out of a bitchin' OST a bad thing? In this context that's a great touch. And yeah, this game is carried by its art and atmosphere, it didn't really try to sell itself on much else. There's a point for shitting on the story but it's a bit like shitting on Lucky Star or any other slice of life series for the story - it's more about the in the moment dialogue than the bigger picture. The other complaints can be set aside by it being a VN, gameplay and progression aren't really the point and even then, triggering flags isn't much different in practice from other interactive VNs.

I think it's more that art and atmosphere is really good, while story and gameplay is only passable. Passable enough that it doesn't hinder the enjoyment of the art and the atmosphere too much. People are looking at a game as a whole package, and if they enjoy some aspects enough, they can overlook other, weaker aspects.

UC is still poorly understood but there are enough studies showing that smoking does help to counter it with relatively few side effects.

Because that's not how video games work. Imagine if Mario games didn't have specific tracks for each stage and sequence, and instead it just played the entire OST one song after the other. Even in visual novels timing a specific song to each scene is incredibly powerful and leaves a large impact on the player. The fact the devs forgo this ability shows they don't know how to tell a good story.
