Make sure to get the latest unofficial patch, install its basic version during the installation. Pick any clan you want and finally, don't open it.

I hope that's not the case, the character feels more predefined when they have a fixed voice.

Yeah looks great for the start. Make sure you get some points in scholarship throughout the game, the items you get require research to be useable. Also it's good to get some stuff into stamina/dodge and strength/brawl or whatever. Late game you want to have something like:
10 brawl
maxed combat defense
like 7 or 8 persuasion
5 in protean and fortitude

He was really the protagonist of the story. The PC is just a vehicle to let the player observe the story rather than a real character.
Like with a Greek tragedy, the whole point was to watch him struggle to avoid his inevitable fate that he knows is coming, only for all his efforts to steer him closer to the very fate he strives to escape.

I assume that the old writer will be able to make something interesting at the very least. I just hope they don't have the same budget/deadlines issues as the first game, where all the character interactions and political intrigue starts to boil down into a long drudge of a battle gauntlet in the end.

Jack obviously set the fire to frame Lacroix because he knew Lacroix would panic and try to frame you once he found out someone tried to whack you and Nines.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lacroix had the fire set to tie up loose ends, but I'd be just as likely to believe that the Kuei-Jin were sabotaging any potential Anarch and Camarilla alliance, or that Jack started it to stir things up, leaving Lacroix to pin everything on you to save face.
The werewolves set the fire because they were bored out of their minds living up there in the park and wanted an excuse to kill some people before they bailed and moved to Oregon.

Recently I finished VTM: Requiem and Christof alone made like the Brujah much more. They went from being one of my most disliked clans to one of my favorites.
And the idea of playing as a neonate on the medieval era to wake up during the modern nights as a full fledged elder is appealing as hell too

They should do period games. VtM set in the 1800s or Dark Ages would be good if they put in the work to make the dialogue and characters fit the time period.

I think there's a place for both types of games.
I love protagonists with real established flaws and character arcs, but I also appreciate the roleplaying freedom and replayability of character customization that allows you to experience different clans and branching choices.

It could have both: you get to pick the clan, each clan has a complete character with a different story set in the same period, these character cross paths several times during the game. Just think of it, same level, huge battle, Brujah character is in the front, Toreador is trying to save a valuable piece from a flaming museum, Nosferatu lurking all over the place gathering intel. There would be so many little things one would not even see and you would have to play with the other afterwards to fully enjoy.

I agree and I like both types of games myself
The problem I have with blank protagonists is that the story is tailored towards nobody and you are supposed to fill in the blanks yourself when it comes to certain story elements, that's why Malkavians are loved in VTM:B the extra dialogue makes you really invested/immersed because at every moment you know by the dialogue and your interactions with others that you are playing as one.
And aside from the Nosferatu and a bit of extra dialogue here and there the other clans feel samey in that regard.
Again I don't mind that type of game but I really wish you could get that same type of feeling you get while playing Malkavian expressed with the other clans and I think the only proper way to do it is to invest too many resources into a single game or have smaller projects on the side.

Remember, Ventrue are associated with nobility and business, Lasombra are associated with Christian leadership. The influence of the Lasombra has faded rapidly as their horse fell behind in the modern nights though.
