Its a strange hybrid between a book and a movie that ticks all the right boxes for me. Its highly detailed focused like a book, with walls upon walls of text to flesh out a setting and characters. Yet, it includes visuals and music that helps to set the atmosphere and communicate extra information without the need to write it out. The best part in my eyes though, is its general simplicity. It leaves a lot for the reader to imagine, they can paint a scene with words, give the reader a general idea of what it looks like with a few simple character sprites or a CG, and let him fill in the rest.
Oh and theres also the fact that a lot of visual novels take a lot of time to read. By the time you finish, it feels like the end of a long journey. I read the Muv Luv trilogy over six months, and closing scenes of Alternative made me feel like i had just lost a dear friend
