Im only playing the game now and despite the translations being very spotty Im rather quite enjoying them. It's nice to have a focus on a small party and some allies instead of a giant ass roster.

There really isn't one. I think Ao has better storytelling overall but it doesn't have as good party chemistry as Zero did. No game I've played ever has a cast as tight as Zero's. The detective/police aspect of it getting played up more than in its sequel also helps a lot too. It's a really phenomenal game in ways that its sequel isn't, which I absolutely love.
