What kind of loser doesn't like Spongebob? Plenty of boomers like it. It was legitimately made with adults in mind. It followed up Nicks other programming aimed towards older demographics, along with Rocko, Rugrats, Angry Beaver, etc.
It was actually geared more towards Generation Y

I remember as a kid, I thought I was too old for Rugrats because the main characters were babies, so that must mean the show was for babies.
Now I realize there was a surprising amount of adult humor in that show.

For sure. I just re-watched the first 3 seasons of the show a few months ago and loved it. The adults really steal the show. It's in the later seasons after the creators left the show and the characters became flanderized that it began appealing more towards children.
