Pokemon was never good
*most overrated
I'll never forget the feeling when my dad came home with one of those costco bundles for my brother, that came with a game boy color and silver or gold. And then me crying that I didn't get one and him telling me to go check his lunch box in the truck.

Pokemon is bad.
I wonder if kids these days will have the same amount of nostalgia for SuMo or whatever

With the best soundtrack ever amirite boys?
I don't think so. Too linear and hand holdy.
Honestly my favorite Pokemon games by far, hands down. The new ones just aren't the same
UNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>go level 51 whatever
>level 52 opponent
>lose one hit
>use 10 rare candy
>win one hit any move
such depth best game ever 10/10
why did they tone it down
Because it was struggling to fit on the cartridge
based dad with the emotional rollercoaster reveal
you'd be hard pressed to find 10 rare candies in the entire game
>play song not on the hardware it wasn't intended for
>it sounds like shit
The level progression for the last half (after Ecruteak) is ridiculous. Only very specific fights are remotely challenging because the game tries to be "open", resulting in maybe five fights that are barely at your level until Clair, but you can beat Clair in the low 30s, then your next job is the Elite Four who are all Lv. 40 - 46 and is several fights in a row. To make matters worse, there's no way to level up decently since the highest level wild mons are in Victory Road and they barely give anything since they're only Lv. 35ish.
I'm replaying Crystal literally right now and shit's fucking ridiculous.
Yup it's widely known that the level curve was gen 2's worst fault. You're better off playing a rom hack that fixes this because otherwise IMO it's the best gen.
memory problems
>Shit level curve
>No safari zone
>Shit distribution of new mons
>Gym leaders don't use Johto mons
>Introduced filler baby mons
>Introduced retarded trade item evolutions
>1% encounter rates out the ass
>Random phone calls
>Kanto is empty.
Nah, it's actually pretty mediocre.
>1% encounter rates out the ass
Also 5% encounters only at specific times of day. Fucking insane.
>lying on the internet
I preferred heart gold.
It might be just because I was a kid and it was before the internet min-maxed every game like autists, but gold and silver always felt like it had an atmosphere of mystery to it. Always felt like there was stuff in the world left to do, even though I had already finished the game.
FACT: complaining about level curve is a fucking meme that people regurgitate but don't actually believe. The ONLY time that shit was a problem was when needing to grind for the E4, other than that you never even noticed.
Based.
I remember when I got Stadium. It was around the Pokemon craze, and Lays was putting Pokemon pogs in the chips (in my country). I remember pulling a sick 3D Tangela pog and showing it to my dad, and he says " check out what I got in my Lays" as he pulls the box out of a plastic bag.
I lost my shit.
>Above the other trainers level in any other Pokemon game
>"fucking casualized trash"
>Fighting level 20 grunts right before the final gym
>"fucking masterpiece"
Your dad's a champ
Mine was Pokemon Red: he made me believe we were going to see my golddigger of a grandma (who everyone hates) but took swerved left and went to Radio Shack instead.
I don't give a shit. I'll never experience going back to see my digital mom, trying out surf to go right and realizing that the game wasn't over.
HGSS improved on everything
