Which C&C game should I buy if I've never played one before?
*waddle*
Play Tiberian Sun, its free.
Is CnC3 any good? Never played.
Everybody who played the game knows that 2 dorfs are twice as powerful as one dorf, but more then two is suicidal.
Bump
Thoughts on Knights of Honor?
Ok I'm really new to this and extra confused now, are these official C&C games?
Yes. OpenRA may have extra modifications but both Red Alert and Tiberian Sun are official CnC games. Red Alert is an alternative version of CnC1 and Tiberian Sun is CnC2
either red alert or tiberian sun. the original is good if you played it at the time but it's missing way too many QoL features to be playable today
So is anyone, anyone at all looking forward to Steel Division 2? From the developers of the Wargame trilogy (the best thing to happen to RTS since Supreme Commander IMHO)
How's the first one?
Can we discuss something else that isn't remasters?
A lot of good ideas, singleplayer was kind of naff since they went for the mission-based campaign approach. They experimented a ton with the Wargame formula, to varying effect.
I dropped it mostly because I'm just sick of the Normandy setting. Looking forward to eastern front much more.
never get eugen games on launch
Have you played this? I have and I found it was just artillery spam all day every day. You just point and shoot your mortars and the units get supressed, then either surrender or fall back. The map becomes very static because whenever 1 side tries to push you just click on them with all your artillery. Then you go on the Discord and they chastise you for insulting their perfect game. Apparently using smokes counters cross-the-map and off-the-map artillery.
Friend conned me into buying it and now I can't refund it because it's been more than 2 weeks. Not happy about my purchase
Thats kinda the direction this thread is already going. What do you want to discuss?
Are you talking about the beta for 2, or 1? I never felt SD1 had too much of an issue with arty spamming.
Fuck remasters.
Also, SC2 is still better.
Play Myth
The beta for two. I've played most of the beta "waves" and it doesn't appear to be getting any better
Been on a bit of an RTS bent lately. I am so shit at them though. Wss playing the star wars one, empire at war I think? The one that feels like an AOE clone.
Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
While a based game. He was asking for command and conquer.
Play Metal Fatigue. Avoid DoWIII.
Gold Standard for MOST BROKEN UNITS IN RTS GAMES.
C A S U A L T Y
Back in the day I finished Myth 2 on max difficulty with no casualties. Save scummed a lot but still did it.
Have you tried using those mortars to drop smoke shells and cover your advance?
Not even memeing, the IRL Soviets fielded obscene amounts of artillery to use smoke.
>Gold Standard for MOST BROKEN UNITS IN RTS GAMES.
Thats Total Annihilation. SupCom atlease is balanced in a sense.
I meant the Krogoth. It's THE Gold Standard.
Oh. Yeah, Krogie are pretty broken.
OpenRA RA2 when? I need this in my life.
I hope it's good. Warhammer and all these other turn based ones are fun but just not the same.
>A genre which only exists today because of Chinese. All remasters done by Chinese developers. All tournaments worth shit funded and played primarily by Chinese. All upcoming games directly or indirectly funded by Chinese fans. All current mods made by Chinese modders.
Have you thanked the Middle Kingdom yet, Yea Forums?
Guess you never played vs a human
T1 air is the broken part. First player to bomb some extractors/solar wins.
OpenRA is garbage.
Red Alert 2 or Generals
Could an RTS with JRPG aesthetics work?
Yes I have tried, I should have expanded on it more in my initial post. It doesn't change anything (or is even counterproductive) because you can see where the enemy has dropped smoke, so you just blow up that bit as well as all the other bits. Also the guy firing the smoke has just revealed the position of his mortars, so you can target those too. The artillery aligns way too quickly and has a colossal suppression effect radius. Two shells land near your guys and they just stop moving, then they surrender
I don't see why not. I think the issue with that though is who will play it. Asians don't play RTS games and RTS players don't play jap shit.
I honestly don't think it's that binary.
Lots of people on Yea Forums play JRPGs and Western games at the same time.
Also who knows, if somehow that leads to a bunch of weebs to try out RTS i think it's worth it.
>Asians don't play RTS
Gookclick
>JRPG aesthetics
No such thing exists. There's practically as many aesthetics as they are worthwhile games.
If you just mean an RTS game which looks like an anime in some way, then there's already bucketloads of those.
>Asians don't play RTS games
China is the biggest RTS nation on Earth, mate.
South Korean love for Starcraft is a meme of its own.
Vietnamese are religiously playing AoE1 (yes, 1) to this day and even show matches on TV.
>there's already bucketloads of those.
What, which games?
It's risky is all im saying, because of that no triple a dev would do it. Maybe one day an indie dev will do it. The safest bet would probably be with gundam mechs.
>everyone talks about the typical RTS games
>C&C, Warcraft, AoE
>no love for one of the most underrated RTS games
youtube.com
speaking of underrated.
This game was janky but it had a lot of cool ideas for the factions and the artstyle was great.
Also the campaign was pretty fun.
Posting one the based factions in RTS History
Would work. Only what type of RTS? More like a traditional one or more in DoW's direction?
This is a nice intro.
I wish we had more Army Men games. But in RTS's case is that you essentially played against the same faction with different colors. Should've made Greens and Tans actually differ in some way.
This game needs to land on Steam or GOG without the Games for Windows stuff. That and get a sequel.
Post Based Factions
Of course it's risky, making an RTS in 2019 by itself is risky, it's why Petroglyph is making a Survival RTS instead of a traditional one.
Traditional RTS seem to just die on release.
I'm biased to something with the scale of supreme commander or heroes of anihilated empires.
But intricate eastern designs lend better to smaller conflicts, like warcraft 3.
>tfw "nod" means fart in Hebrew
they are still based though
>Universe at war
Oh god I really enjoyed that game.
>heroes of annihilated empires.
Still a pity we never got a sequel.
>Could an RTS with JRPG aesthetics work?
It already exists:

>Spoonfeeding.
Just ask google and you'll see. Unless you can't even write down a simple query in Japanese, then there's no point in showing any of them since you can't do jack shit without speaking Japanese.
The "mars attacks" faction with the walking buildings was stupid cool.
You're garbage.
Zero Hour, specifically
Well the entire point of Army Men is that they were the same except for the color. Although in some games the Tan were clearly based on the Wehrmacht, maybe they could have gone with that to differentiate them.
I wish we had more Army Men games too though. I miss 3DO
youtube.com
>Hebrew
Its also funny that nod control Israel. What did westwood mean by this?
Just buy The First Decade and you got plenty to choose from. It's just for a few bucks retail
Or just download and try the free ones and decide yourself
>tfw ants attack
Isnt "NOD" an acronym?
No, it's a name of the planes to which Cain fled after getting marked by God for fratricide
No. GDI is.
NOD as such doesn't exist. Only "Brotherhood of Nod".
game?
Black Moon Chronicles
Black Moon Chronicles. GOG now has it, IIRC.
Wait until you hear the fucking soundtrack in this shit.

It's a big part of my childhood. Also a good game to show where Japanese RTS games come from.
how do I get over the RTS online anxiety?
Who played this? Decently fun fantasy RTS with interesting mechanics but some OP as fuck units, top tier OST also.
Play online, then you will realise that it's not so bad when you lose. Try playing FFA or 1v1 because if you play team games your team will insult you and you will feel more anxious next time
Do you legitimately want to climb the ladder or just play online?
If you don't give a fuck about competitive bullshit just play custom games or with other people.
oh hell yeah dude, loved that shitty game
Zhon and it's lemon tree loving queen is the best
i dont give a fuck about climbing a ladder desu
Then play coop or team games with friends.
Ancestors legacy was a good game god damn it
I know someone who played all the campaigns but I couldn't really get into the company of heroes/total war arena style gameplay with lots of blobbing.
Loved it better than regular TA. Fantasy>robots. Fite me.
Where is your god now?
There are still multiplayer matches once in a blue moon at gameranger if you care. But if you're new to multiplayer it's just a guaranteed hard stomp.
God playing zhon was fun as fuck, spawn towers and golems and you were pretty much invincible
The expansion even added the robots from the first game, this game had it all.
i only play single player campaign.
feel been fucked by the first one.
tho SD2 looks pretty good. is there any gameplay vid about the dynamic campaign? to me, it could be what total war: WW2 will look like
and there is breakthrough mode that you can play with AI.
What this user said, just go with FFA/1v1 and call anyone who disses your build path or micro a tryhard niggerfaggot
you stop that right now, Kane's lore didn't develop past C&C 3 because it was the last game in the series.
What THIS user said. But you get the point. And seek out casual lobbies, obviously.
Anyone hyped for the conan RTS?
>Hyped
>For generic shovelware.
>A copy-pasted game
>Made in a style the developers have never done.
>By fucking Petroglyph.
>Outdated graphics.
>Horrid animations.
>B-But it has a famous IP attached to it!
Is there anything more trash than RA3?
i never played RA3, but why is it so bad?
Thoughts on Knights of Honor?
It's not, the other user is wrong. Thanks for asking so I don't have to give a (you) to that retarded user with fag opinions.
Robots are fucking cool though.
He was an angsty teenager when it came out and hated colors. Colors were not "in" back then, you see. Everything was this brownish-turd colored paste of bland. RA3 completely fucked up by adopting the RA2 color palette, thus alienating xXBART_SephirothXx guys like and hence deservedly tarnishing its reputation forever.
It was pretty shit compared to the others, yeah.
RA3 had the best girls.
I did it guys, now they can't move to page 10 anymore.
i love the nato long hair airforce girl
I loaned it from a classmate in middle school and remember having a lot of fun with it
I too am waiting until I see what they're doing with the single player campaign. They've made a lot of promises and I hope that they'll be able to deliver on them. W:ALB was rudimentary, W:RD was serviceable, SD2 might just be good, who knows.
On an unrelated note, has anyone played the Mechcommander games? I've been on a Battletech binge lately and I've thought about trying them out, are they any good?
They're air units user.
i learned korean just to play more starcraft. i lived in korea just to play with lower latency. i even own a starcraft painting. i fucking love rts games
i like the chapter system of Wargame: euro escalation, but i can't play past the polish revoke ep and gave it up.
air land battle is cool, tho, would be better if i could slow down the game
the only thing i hate about RD is the stupid AI.....it's just boring
Exactly how? By trying something new with unit stances, by learning from other RTS games and objectively improving the ore system? By going even more cartoon crazy than RA2? It was nowhere near shit, and if 'the others' include the first titles you're obviously giving bonus points for nostalgia because they had so much bullshit and so many minor issues that they've only begun to fix with OpenRA. And compared to C&C 4 it was GOTYOAY.
Do you really think they care now that they're working on a C&C remaster?
did you eat lots of bulgogi
Didnt know they do, but I think it's just because they took over the whole mideast and Asia. Would have been weird if they took over entire continent except one country
have you tried resetting W:EE to its release version? They really shook up the balance of the game post launch, which made the campaign absolutely brutal. They never really got the multiplayer right anyway, we went through a superheavy tank meta, autocannon meta, ATGM meta and in the end helo rushing was still an autowin button against most plebs.
Everyone misses them. At least we knew we could get more Heroes games. UbiSoft has Might and Magic and the only games that are actually good are the earliest Ashan ones (Heroes V with ToTE, Clash of Heroes and Dark Messiah).
And yeah, the kind of changes to Army Men you just said would've worked. Would actually go more Axis and Allies stuff with more modern elements thrown in.
damn, you can do that? maybe i should try.
tho, everytime when i alt-tab out of the game, i can't get back in.
Me. Needs larger unit limit.
personal favorite.
RA3 wasn't so bad, but it was a downgrade compared to Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath.
NOW TIBERIUM TWILIGHT AND DAWN OF WAR III ON THE OTHER HAND...
>implying DoW II is exempt
Warhammer fanboys everyone.........................
>RA3 was bad because it had colors
Imagine being such a mental midget you think something like this up to avoid facing the glaring issue the game had, and how it absolutely failed to hold up to the first two RA games. Have sex.
C&C Generals is a good balance between the modern (easy fixes for high resolution, solid UI, general QoL features) and the classic gameplay that defined the series. I wouldn't recommend starting with the original C&C/RA unless you're already a RTS fan.
I liked it quite a bit
Never really enjoyed Eugen games to be honest, although I'm certainly not going to knock those who do.
The last couple of missions in the campaign are pretty brutal, but otherwise this is truly an underappreciated C&C esque game. I just wish it had more resources per map
There are plenty of worse games, C&C4 and DoW 3 are pretty good recent examples.
DoW 2 with the Elite mod and some no population cap modifications comes painfully close to being a great game.
Also what happened with that game that was basically Company of Heroes with mechs? Iron Harvest or something I think it was called
How is DOW2 bad? I can see not liking it based on the differences, but without comparing it to the first its a fine game on its own. DOW 3 is just retarded for several reasons, it was doomed a while ago when it was made by the shattered fragments of Relic proper, among other things.
Its divisive but not DoW3 tier.
Crap base-building, "armies" consisting of 5 units maximum, closer to Call of Duty than an RTS with how small the multiplayer maps were and how rail-roaded were the campaign maps.
>TIBERIUM TWILIGHT
Whats that?
>Save scummed a lot
Then your achievement is meaningless.
Have you read the dev diaries? They're really doubling down on the turn-based strategic gameplay on this one, much moreso than in the previous games with a dynamic campaign.
so it's just like red dragon's turn base system?
but without all the sectors?
i honestly preferred the other korean delicacies
The fact that they've gotten rid of the sectors and gone for a smooth map (with different types of terrain on the strategic layer) is a gamechanger. You're now taking advantage of roads, fortifying individual crossroads, maintaining supply lines etc. It's the gameplay of a classic hex-wargame now.
love it, also love the peresistance there is to it.
I wish there was a newer game like that.
Damn i wish there were newer RTS games in general.
Anyone here played Dragonshard? That game is underrated and i never see it mentioned here
>pic related
DoW 2s campaign is unironically what Spellforce 3 should have been.
if they actually manage to pull it off, we might end up with an operational-level game that would be enjoyable on its own, even without the RTS elements. The thing is that Eugene have a history of wonky game mechanics and releasing games with subsystems that simply don't work (like W:RD naval combat). Which is why I'm reserving my purchase until I can judge how good this SP will be.
she looks kinda ugly 2bh
i think i will love this. This strategic map looks like some operation star tier of things and when you zoom in. it's not hardcore simulator tier of troop control, that's a plus and it's not close combat leon type of autism.
so that's cool too. but damn, i think i will wait till more mods come out before i buy the game JUST FOR THE CAMPAIGN.
Yeah, we'll see how it works out.
to each his own
looks better in this pic
>Neck and chin
I hope she manages to control her weight.
Personally, I'm just glad Eugen finally figured out how to add base-building into their game. Finally after 7 years of bitching we're going to get battles which aren't just head-to-head meeting engagements but proper attack-defend scenarios with lines of fortifications.
here's another alien looking picture for you.
why didn't navel combat in RD work?
it's quite boring alright
What's Eugen been up to? I stopped playing their games after Red Dragon came out because it had no dedicated servers on launch, naval combat was an awful gimmick, and it felt like I had to play mixed decks to be viable.
>they were the same
The Tan don't have Sarge.
Lots of stuff.
First, they tried to resurrect the classic 90's RTS genre with Act of Aggression. It was meh.
Then, they made Steel Division, basically WW2 Wargame but with a lot of changes under the hood.
Now they're making a sequel to that set in the eastern front of WW2.
Oh yeah, and they switched publishers twice throughout all this. First they left Focus after AoA and signed up with Paradox, then they left Paradox after SD1 to be self-published.
Frankly it's a miracle this game is coming out at all with how they've been doing shit.
>the size of that grass
General Plastro > Sarge
>First, they tried to resurrect the classic 90's RTS genre with Act of Aggression. It was meh.
yeah, when they randomized resources and didn't even have attack move on the A key. what a stellar attempt.
Its pretty low tier to be honest. Nothing you throw at the enemy seems to feel like it works well, aside from specific siege units like the new Dreadnought that can fire while moving and the flying samurai helmet from the expansion.
Most of the units in that game feel like they're made of paper, so you'd spend thousands of credits on a late game unit that's just out performed by tier 1.5 shit like those Mecha Tengu. They went with a rock paper scissors system thinking it was what CNC was about.
Its about spending smartly and using units effectively. If they wanted battles to go faster then cut the health bars, don't give damage multipliers to units that are supposed to be the scissors to paper; which the player doesn't get to figure out by the way. I hated spending credits on later tier units in RA3 when I could hardly find the situations in which I could learn to use those units effectively, and meanwhile the early game MBTs like the Hammer tank were just better than so many units later on.
>hammer tank clones machine guns and missile units and defeats the rock paper scissor game design
And then there are these...DoWII is good as in its own way. It may not be DoW, but the more tactical take combined with higher risk makes it an interesting thing. It doesn't have DoW-levels of battles, but its still fun...UNLIKE DOWIII which is EVERYTHING BAD ABOUT BOTH PREVIOUS GAMES.
Horror beyond comprehension. The peak of EA JEWISHNESS AND LAZINESS. The franchise killer.
>yeah, when they randomized resources
You're saying that as if AoE and all its clones did not do this, successfully, from the start.
The game was okay as a follow-up to Act of War. Issue was the AoW community is small and was overshadowed by the C&C imbeciles who cried and cried until they got what they wanted and made the game shit.
Generals and zero hour take some effort to get working on W10 machines, but it can be done.
sniff
Army Men had some dark stuff. I think in some of those games there were scenes where the greens were being dumped inside vats of tan plastic and coming out of the conveyor belt as tan soldiers. It was some of the best brainwashing symbolism for kids.
radomizing resources is weird as fuck, i'm not sure how competitive AOE2 deals with it.
The single player for this game was a blast and had great design but I cannot stress just how bad multiplayer is in.
SbS is probably the most interesting matchup in a rts in a while though. Nonstop early game aggression. The sc2 fags would call this a zvz knife fight on steroids.
>and meanwhile the early game MBTs like the Hammer tank were just better than so many units later on.
That's literally the essense of most C&C games. hardcore rock-paper-scissors.
Compared to games like Starcraft/Warcraft which have a soft counter system and varied units.
No matter how many rifle soldiers you get, they will get ran over and slaughtered by tanks. That's C&C and hard-counter mechanics.
In SC, no one cares the siege-tank counters mass units like Zerglings if you throw a small group of zerglings at it, it will die if the fight isn't even.
Dude, all the fucking maps in AoE are randomly generated.
When they play on "Arabia", they play on a random generation template, not a pre-defined map.
>How do they deal.
They deal with it. The system is built to be fair (if you get something closer, so will your opponent) just like in Act of Aggression.
Starcraft 2 sucks dick
>no ultrawide support
>skins everywhere for premium price
>co-op missions that noone plays gets added
Fucking trash fuck blizzard.
>ultrawide
lol
Ultrawide is the most popular new monitor type sold above the 200 dollar price range. Its a gigantic market now.
You couldn't beat a Mammoth tank that can self heal HP by the way, with a light, medium, or heavy tank. Bang for buck.
Infantry getting run over was solved by the time of RA2. The GI when deployed en masse can turn Rhino tanks into mince meat.
In CNC Generals they gave infantry buildings and vehicles to shoot from and they improved it from RA2. Then CNC3 made infantry tougher by giving them to you in bulk. Buy 1 gun infantry, get 6 or 12 dudes. Buy 1 missile infantry, get 2 dudes. Then RA3 comes out and the infantry are trash except for the allies' shotgun infantry and the empire's laser anti-tank infantry.
In both RA3 and CNC3 mounting vehicles and entering buildings was worse than in RA2 and Generals.
RTS games still use GUI made for 4:3 minotors, mate.
>that one cutscene where a sniper blows your head off
Army Men had some great losing cutscenes. A shame they didn't carry over to the PS1 versions.

btw bros, if you ever want to play the PC games here you go:

C&C clones literally killed the RTS genre two decades ago. Why are they still fucking doing this?
you mean starcraft and its autistic gook clicking
Where do I find some minotaurs with more modern aspect rations?
Zero-K is the best RTS
Nice. I've played all of those already but I hope more kids these days play them too.
Actually it was TA for being a peak never to be surpassed.
Why do all companies produce games that you play with a microscope? It's like they're pressing your nose into the map instead of using current technology to enable more sup-com like zoom.
>resetting
just downloaded WEE again, but i don't see the option to reset it back to release version in the beta tab.
how do i do it?
Tradition I guess.

You could play all your games on 50 monitors now. A modern GPU can handle it.
Why don't you?
The limited ability to view the map is a part of the game design like any other.
I hate that the AI shits on you due to its shooter units ignore the Fog of war humans get, and most units cant see for shit to add to it.
B R I D G E R E P A I R E D
Best game ever, played it with mods couple of months ago
It's industry conservatism. The industry hates innovation and wonders why Starcraft 2 and other Starcraft-likes like RA3 just flatout fail.
I'll just stick to SupComFFA and Zero K instead of giving the AAA devcucks any dosh.
reminder total war is shit
snorecore
seeing zoomed out little triangles is uninteresting
That's why Hoi4 and other gsgshit is among the Top 5 RTS steam games.
c&c 4
There never was a C&C 4 user. What are you talking about?
these are great, they did hero aspect better than warcraft 3,wish there was new one
you know what user you are right ,i must be imagining things
Does anyone here encounter severe loading times in Act of War High Treason?
>Play an RTS game
>All of your troops are total retards and require constant babysitting to not get killed by units just outside of their attack range
Have any games dealt well with this outside of Men of War?
I liked 2 more
The campaign in 3 just didn't sit right with me
>Irrevocably kills your childhood.
Cursed image
Yes, C&C 4. RA3 wasn't even that bad.
Very funny user you just edited the metroid prime 4 reveal and put C&C name on it.
Hahaha adorable...
Are you serious? Men of War is probably the guiltiest of this with you having to constantly babysit and direct control your men.
an online-only spinoff that was made into a full standalone game while still in production
Delete this right fucking now.
i got tired of baby sitting my man in WAW after assault squad 1.
but the auto attack AI is pretty cool to have when i use cheat. just let AI to attack on their own is cool
>Irrevocably murders your childhood in front of you, straps you ala Ludovico treatment and forces you to watch as it rapes the corpse of your aforementioned childhood while you scream to make it stop.
zero-k has pretty good unit AI, and you can set how much the AI actually acts on it's own, as in, do the bots just bumrush the enemy rockets unit, or do they try to zigzag to make sure the rockets dont hit anything important
A-user you cant stop now H-Haha.
Making my way through the Spellforce games
Jesus fucking Christ
what's the comfiest RTS atm?
>Irrevocably murders your childhood in front of you, straps you ala Ludovico treatment and forces you to watch as it rapes the corpse of your aforementioned childhood while you scream to make it stop. Then flays its corpse, wears its skin, minces the flesh, used for soup which it force-feeds you like Zhou Xin did with Boyi Kao and Ji Chang. Then straps you to the Paolao and watches as you are cooked alive, only to resurrect you and DO THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
The first one was better. 2nd one was simplified...kinda (but most with the factions). How's 3?
New Empire at War Remake release when
I'd instead like a sequel that starts where Forces of Corruption ended. With further improved space battles and completely reworked ground battles.
>How's 3?
Dunno yet but I know they reduced the number of playable factions so hopefully the existing ones have a bit more depth. Also, I think it got an expansion recently.
>Also, I think it got an expansion recently.
Yeah, it was mentioned some posts earlier.
Battle for middle earth 2
Not anytime soon. There is no way EA will make a Star Wars RTS. It wouldn't fill their pockets as much as they'd want.
It hurts. I paid ninety united states dollars for this. They didn't even make the documentary.
nah its shit
camera too zoomed in
Yeah. We can blame Disney. Blame them for retconning the EU. Blame them for closing Lucas Arts. Blame them for all these stupid decisions.
All I want is fun. Is it wrong to have fun?
There was literally nothing wrong with Command & Conquer Arena, the free to play MOBA spinoff which did not affect the canon.
what the fuck was the documentary gonna be about?
Then they released an expansion that fixed nearly everything. Problem is it was already too late.
Because not only it wasn't canon, it wasn't some game that was treated the same way Diablo Immortal or C&C Rivals were. Hence why it didn't amass so much hate.
>anyone at all looking forward to Steel Division
No. I really wanted Wargame with WW2 units but instead the devs made Steel Division 1. Everything they changed from their previous games feels like a turn for the worse.
>tfw only bought the expack so didn't know that the game was a kickstarter scam and failure in the beginning
the game is good, but at what cost....
Why do I live in this dimension? I feel like i'm living in a bizarro world of what reality should be.
Because God hates our guts, hence why he vexes us at best and outright tortures us at worst. It's like punishment for something we did but don't know what.
All I wanted was something like Kane's Wrath, but even better and crazier. Instead we've got something that was originally supposed to be a spin-off for the Chinese market only and then they changed it into another entry in the franchise. EFFECTIVELY KILLING IT!
Nice frame, user!
In this age, yes. It's all soulless corporatism.
Are there mods for Empire at War or only for the expansion?
Check out GrimGrimmoire
Is there a way to kill of this abomination? At this point it's not even the company Walt established but something akin to The Thing.
making of/behind the scenes. it was the last stretch goal
>expansion fixed everything
>the game is good
titans is shit too. and only high tier KS backers got it for free, everyone else got scammed with a full price patch.
The saying ignorance is both a saying I despise and can relate to user.
Atleast I got my mods and hey atleast CoH 2 not complete trash.
At least Supcom still relatively popular If only I could learn how to fucking play it.
Atleast I stoped playing gookcraft and gained a little bit more happiness in my life.
every time I want to play supcom again I just remember how much I hate engimod and that takes care of that
Wait, someone revived Petroghyph? Or just the core people working there just started working together under a diffrent company?
Either way, please re-relase Universe at War for modern operating systems.
>titans is shit too
fuck you i liked it. sure, it only has 1 race (2 if you count the player-made mod), but as an idiot who struggles with other RTS games it was a nice middle ground between simple and complex, the perfect for a dummy like me. i even got kinda competent at it, whereas i can't get competent in any other RTS or any other game in a competitive genres at all.
i do,didnt find a way to fix it tho which is a shame since i really liked the first one and now ive lost all intrest in the game
Like The Thing, it's technically unkillable since it can jump from body to body. The bodies being the million investors that will never ever let Disney fall to the ground. Too big to fail, and it will only get bigger with time.
95% of all relevant mods are for Forces of Corruption only, since it's technically the newest Empire at War version. Check Moddb to see what you can find for stock EaW, but you won't find much.
it's not like it doesn't run on windows 10, it's a dx9 game. they just took it down for no reason really.
did you play TA or supcom? because those use the same system but much, much better. I guess if you have nothing to compare it to except gookclickers then it seems like it's good.
i tried but i'm too stupid for those games.
user, it's literally the exact same system but with actual balance and polish.
even supcom2 is better than PA but the final patch ruined it
>Like The Thing, it's technically unkillable since it can jump from body to body. The bodies being the million investors that will never ever let Disney fall to the ground. Too big to fail, and it will only get bigger with time.
Unless you have shittons of napalm and explosives. Even their newest movies seem to have put little to no dent in them.
FACT: The EU was never canon. But it is shit that they rebooted it and folded their "new EU" into actual canon.
If the Star Wars IP somehow flops completely, they still have a hundred others to fall back to and they will acquire even more.
Literally invincible. The only hope for a new Star Wars RTS is if somehow EA pulls off a Halo Wars 2. But they learned what listening to fans does, with Need For Speed dying even faster after it's "reboot".
but they have three or sometimes even four races, each with their different units. and i can't find an easy-to-digest pdf file on google docs that explains the strengths and weaknesses of each race's factory choices in each tier. you underestimate how stupid i am.
also supcom's original UI doesn't mesh well with me, and FA campaign starts off where original one ended (so a total noob will be stomped 100%), and FAF does not even have a campaign/single player mode at all.
i mean, i'll keep trying, but currently i like PA more mostly because it was the first one i got gud in.
Nigga, just play FA skirmish until you learn it lmfao
>replayed the arm campaign with out cheesing air
>remember the can

How is it compared to 2150?
d-do you know what tooltip is?
>wait for dawn of war 3 like the rest of us
ha ha still waiting ha ha
random resources was actually a good thing about that game though.
Battlecry 3 is great, but I really don't think they did the hero aspect better than wc3, since the entire game falls on the hero too much in battlecry, and if you just assassinate an enemy hero then that faction is basically just dead.
Also fey is balanced.
fuck I forgot this is the old version.
how naive we were waiting for DoW 3
I tried a lot of fixes (old drivers, mods, changing the config files, even cracks) and only the last one, the most stupid and illogical of them worked.
Change compatibility mode to Windows 98/Me.
I gotta update this user. There's alot of shit that changed plus there's some more rts that came out recently.
Give me a quick rundown of all the rts you can think of that were new before this pic came out.
Also guess what's going in the fucking shadow realm.
I'm still beyond butthurt that Eugen doesn't continue to curate Red Dragon- They just moved on to churn out crappy ww2 titles whilst not realizing that their campaign feature had plenty of fucking potential.
youtube.com
But just look at how much love and effort they put into the announcement trailer, even though it features no gameplay surely the team that would go so far as to capture the 40k atmosphere and aesthetics wouldn't completely miss the mark. I mean, it's not like you'd make a bunch of entirely separate, tonally divorced concept art for the cinematic trailer and the game right? It's not like they'd abandon the game's dedicated niche following to try and appeal to a broader audience right? Not like they'd forsake the DoW franchise's core appeal to chase some fad in an attempt to get more sales right?
Firestorm please god dammit i need that one
Thing is however that Lucas himself committed certain experimental materials that later expanded with fans and more, creating certain principles that later told how certain things work in the original series and later found their way into the prequel trilogy. There wouldn't be a prequel trilogy without the old EU that now is called Legends. Not to mention that unlike the new canon, the old one wasn't tightly connected with each other, thus canon in this case was selective. If it was bad, you ignored it. If it was something you genuinely thought is good, then it was canon for you.
New canon is literally everything canon. Both the bad stuff and the few good (and it's a stretch here) things that appeared. Too intertwined, too tight-knit. No room for maneuvering. And the politicking and onions...Dear God I miss my childhood.
Dark times it is.
Well he did use some things, but officially only lucasfilm products were canon. It was really just a way of saying they aren't tied down to the novels when making new movies.
The game had an OST it didn't deserve. It is SO FUCKING GOOD you should go to youtube and listen to it RIGHT NOW.

You are doing god's work my friend. I posted these ages ago. Glad to see there are still some fans left. If I get an obscene amount of money I'm remaking these games.

We're never getting a WC2 update with modern resolution & battle.net support, are we?
i guess CoH2 deserves to be there
it's so fucking simple to make the US forces remotely playable, nerfing the soviets a little bit, nerfing the brits a lot, and quit shafting Wehr and OKW because le epik nazis r bad and fuck wehraboos meme
>But just look at how much love and effort they put into the announcement trailer
Who? The company they outsourced the trailer to?
>OKW isn't the most OP shit in the game
Empire Earth 3 needs to be in the shadow realm.
Why don't games have light-hearted ads like these anymore? It was top comfy.
>and quit shafting Wehr and OKW
nigga you wot
axis get the most insane OP shit, not even counting that they just have to hold out for fuel and steamroll with t4 tanks
Deserts of Kharak is really fucking good and it's not there
Also HW2 Remaster exists and it's glorious. That could use an update
>HW Remaster
>glorious
they even fucked up the classic editions. 0/10
I heard there's a new 40k strategy game being developed for Focus Interactive by a new studio made from ex-Relix employees that worked on the original Dawn of Wars and Company of Heroes.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
Wehraboos everytime.
You are right about one thing. US need a fucking buff but atleast with the new commanders and upcoming updates its somewhat getting better.
>ex-Relix employees that worked on the original Dawn of Wars
So is that why DoW3 was garbage?
>atleast with the new commanders and upcoming updates its somewhat getting better.
wait i thought that came already.
not that it really fucking matters since any buff to allies means the axis get more counter buffs.
What was DoW3 like? I only heard it's very shit, what were its major flaws.
Is it there?
> WarZone 2100

good laugh, but not accurate
weapons get replaced by upgraded versions, and the propulsion system choices consist of "early game wheels that are suicide to use past early game; mid-game half-tracks that only get used on trucks past mid-game; always the superior choice tracked and hover propulsion. vtol is the aircraft gimmick"
the only "real" choices are body/chassis types, Snake-named body for general-purpose, Bug-named for fragile low-cost and thermal resistance, Feline-named for higher health medium-cost and projectile resistance, and then "lol broken" superior stats with insane prices draconic-named bodies... that are never used because games don't go on for that long.
and then there is the double weapon chassis that takes so long to tech up to i got bored afking for like 2 hours in a skirmish
>recommending the universally most hated game in the series
mate start at C&C1 and work your way through the series.
Havent been exited since they fucked ALB, RD and made Steel Division 1.
Fuck Eugen and fuck madmat.
>recommending the universally most hated game in the series
What m8? CnC4 is the most hated.
I don't think SupCom2 is irredeemable filth, more like the shadow realm. It can be a fun game, it's just hampered by the expectations because it's a sequel.
Yeah, SupCom 2 is only subpar.
CoH2 is trash compared to 1 though. There's a reason 1 still has 2/3 the player base of 2.
Graphics have kind of a cartoon look to it.
Map design is very basic, every map feels like it is designed to work in a MOBA.
Units are made of tissue paper.
Heroes are rape trains.
I know that last part sounds like DoW 2 (The hero part) but in DoW3 a single hero can literally wipe entire squads (multiple) in one attack when using a special ability. It makes the game play a mess.
i mean yeah, everyone hates 4.
but of the old C&C games Tiberian Sun did really poorly. It lagged like fuck, terrain destruction pissed everyone off and it was the game that spawned the 10 years of brown-shaded grimdark bullshit that followed.
The only C&C game that was hated more was Sole Survivor, the online-only single-unit battle royale released in the late 90's when no-one had Internet yet.
The wonderful thing about that "Dragon" chassis is, the original version of WZ2100 didn't have a double-turret on it. (Just like aim distance modifiers which were patched out due to pathfinding/retreat issues) Just a very expensive body with a shit ton of health and armor. It just represented the end of tank chassis research, like the plasma cannon (and orbital laser satellite) represents the end of energy-weapon research, and the arch-angel missile battery the end of missile emplacement research.
Over all, WZ2100 really needs an actual balance sweep to fix its issues. But hey
> yet another dead open source github project
At least it's free.
>the ex-CEO of Relic came back in 2016 (left in 2006 right after CoH1)
>right when they started development of Company of Heroes 3
is there any hope?
It was a fucking MOBA game, a step back in every conceivable way from Dawn of War II
Please God-Emperor, don't let them fuck this up
did i say github? i meant sourceforge
and did i say dead? i meant it actually updated feb 10th this year, to 3.3.0
i just looked at their main page and was like "well it's fucked"
no, it's still alive on the forums. imagine that.
As someone who put 1000+ hours into DoW 1 and around 500 hours into DoW 2 (including the expansions for both), DoW 3 is a complete and utter dumpster fire that I dropped after like 5 hours.
>Voice acting is considerably worse
>Units feel incredibly weak, aside from the heroes which are crazily OP
>Maps are very limited in terms of both complexity and number
>The smallest faction roster out of any game, even at launch
>The campaign is essentially a plot rehash of the first game but with less missions
>The AI is weak at both the unit level and the general/opponent level
>Comes with everyone's favourite DRM software Denuvo so you need online authorization to play skirmishes, even in single player
>Didn't even come with annihilation mode at launch because the developers were total retards and focused on a quasi-MOBA game mode where each side had to destroy the other teams nexus/ancient/equivalent
>Dev support dropped after a few months because the game bombed, modding community is almost non-existent
>Even the visuals are barely improved, being not much better than Dawn of War 2
>Army sizes aren't particularly improved either
>Oh and if you care about the Warhammer 40,000 setting, then rest assured that Relic managed to shit all over the lore harder than usual
It's just worse than the previous games by virtually every metric. DoW 2 gets flak for being different but the campaign in that game was great and the smaller army sizes were somewhat justifiable due to the increased need for micro (cover system + suppression system + more abilities for most units + commander units had more depth to them).
wrong
i actually enjoyed the graphics for everyone but eldar; orks actually look pieced together and borderline falling apart
everything else is on point though
i really just play RTS games for the cool animations
the director of Dawn of War 1 is back at Relic as of 2016.
>giving EA money
OH NO NO NO AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
>not pirating
How did the vanilla game play btw?
I played the fan project and it was suprisingly fun at first but later on it just seems AT>>>everything else. There was no reason to use anything else since those guys just had stupid good alpha strike. All that cannon and flamer research was pointless.
Another thing was how broken the angel missles were. Pinpoint, never overkills, unlocked like 1/3 through the game. Shit was fun and broken but it felt like thats not how it shouldve been. And then AI actually uses that shit to hit your LZs in the last missions.
am I crazy or did CoH2 not have any base building when it launched?
Whats a good beginners RTS?
i'm being hopeful but realistically i'm just going to keep playing CoH1 most likely. there's more than enough good mods and maps for it and the persistent mods (like OMGmod and EIR) still have a good community behind them.
I suggest just playing whichever rts has a theme that you find interesting.
Scifi, historical, fantasy, whatever it is.
Sc2 is easier to control than most because you have a lot of stuff that helps you control your units, like a wide unit selection.
That might set you up for a bad habit that might make it harder to move on to other rts games though, so I'm not sure what a good beginner rts would be.
AoE2, broodwar, maybe.
I'd suggest pretty much anything released after 2000 that has a theme/setting/selling point you find interesting
>why not something before 2000?
Honestly most games are fine but Age of Mythologies, C&C Generals, Starcraft 2 and Supreme Commander are more beginner friendly than the previous games in those series imho.
WC2 or RA2.
Are you for real? The AI in TA/TAK is one of the worst in RTS history.
Also you're supposed to constantly build birds for vision.
the AI is very easily modded to be quite good.
This had something like Warcraft’s hero system, right?
supcom2, unironically
No it did, but it was very limited. Both sides could make only 3 buildings (not counting the supply points on the capture locations and German Bunkers) and only in their immediate base location.
>Asians don't play RTS games

He's a weeb, he thinks all asians are japs, while rts are quite popular in most of east asia, just not japan.
starcraft is not a real rts and its the only one they play
>How did the vanilla game play btw?
3D rendering was relatively new and there were several draw-ordering glitches that would cause some polygons to render on top of others or completely wrong (electrical/smoke sprites layering on buildings) The lighting and camera shake effects from explosions were different; much more vertex-shaded style and shaking screen at 20FPS was jittery as fuck when 10 tanks/cyborgs got hit with a mortar volley and gibbed.
Balance wise: yes, for a game that used tanks as the primary unit the "anti-tank" rocket/missile weapons were horrendously over-powered. The "lancer" rocket tank turret with its first damage upgrade would instakill a targeted tank if both rockets hit.
>If both rockets hit
Which is where the "attack range" setting came into play. Projectiles are physically simulated, and can have guidance systems. "Dumb" projectiles like tank shells can have target prediction in the turret but if the target changes direction after being shot at, the shot could miss. Attack range was meant to mitigate this on the "dumb-and-dumber" weapons like machine guns which never get guidance or prediction systems.
Long-range means if the target is a static emplacement, you're more likely to get the first strike *and* not be hit while moving. Short-range means you'll be less likely to miss due to moving targets but are also easier to hit.
Due to the wonky pathfinding in the original, units would collide with each other, "oh shit i'm sorry, i'll get out of your way" and do a 180 U-Turn... into another unit.
Combine this with "short range" attack mode, with a weapon that has an already short range... like a flame thrower. (of course the flame thrower has an AoE attack... that can hurt friendlies too...)
so yeah, rockets+missiles O.P.
>starcraft is not a real rts
seething C&Cuck
WC2 >>>>> Red Alert
starcraft is shit m8
no one cares about your gookclick simulator
and units can be set to "retreat" on medium or low health, and will move more slowly as they become more damaged.
and most maps have choke points that are 5 tiles wide or less, and most tanks are about as large as 1 tile.
and there are 50 other units sitting bumper-to-bumper behind the front line units trying to get into range, retreat, or get out of the way of another unit.
you could attack a fortified location in these methodologies:
- Move trucks to build mortar emplacements and a sensor tower and wear down the fortifications.
- Do the above, but with mortar and sensor units.
- Build legitimate TANKS heavy body and tracked with cannons and just send them in 1 at a time with a repair bot behind them with medium-damage retreat to keep them alive with a repair bay on the front line, with the return pad located where the enemy fortification is.
- Do the above but use the correct weapon "Bunker Buster" to kill the fortifications more quickly.
- Wheel/Hover Viper Lancers, ONLY! YOLO SHORT RANGE. DO OR DIE, NO RETREAT, FIRE AT WILL!
Should I try and git gud at WC3 multiplayer if nothing has scratched the itch since SC2 WoL? Been trying to find another competitive game to play, but I haven't been hooked to anything nearly as much as the past.
I tried a while ago and it was decently active. I got my ass kicked though and I don't really like having to micro all the unit abilities in WC3.
For decent competitive scenes I think your only options are really aoe2, broodwar, sc2 and wc3.
and coh2
Age of Empires 2 is good, so's Red Alert 2, C&C1, Warcraft 2, Total Annihilation
this and CoH 1, CoH2's high level competitive play is shit compared to 1.
coh2 is a lot more balanced than coh1
Underrated, also a pretty kino OST.
I'm so glad this failed.
All they had to do was take a lot from DoW2 AND DoW1 and kind of merge both games together;
aka base building
but with DoW2 unit tactics and cover mechanics / retreat
with larger scale armies with more squads and more vehicles per player
instead of commanders like DoW2 had you can call in hero units like you can in DoW3, but they're not anywhere near as powerful / broken as they are in 3.
Get rid of the dumbass MOBA inspired "destroy the power core" bullshit multiplayer mode and return to DoW1 / 2 style capture points for resources / drain the enemies points / annihilation battles.
There, fixed what was a garbage ass game.
>Wait for DoW3 like the rest of us
kek
y'all tried zero-k or call to arms? both are free physics RTS, former is a fork of TA Spring, the remake of TA, latter is sort of a mod of men of war in modern times
zero k is extremely shit
It didn't simply "fail", it was a total disaster for everyone involved. Relic has gone into full introspect mode, they're bleeding money and wondering if RTS games are even worth pursuing anymore.
>3 factions
>3 different composers
Dune is nothing but based.
Why so?
all of this while they're developing CoH3 and AoE4. Reminder that both of these games already have 2+ years in the oven. Pretty sure Relic are done for.
I wish they made aoe4 full 2D like aoe1 and 2. 3d rts have no soul and modern sprite art can look beautiful (and timeless).
based but wont work on win10
It was my first RTS as a kid and I recently replayed it. I loved the campaign, the problem was the game is kinda low brain since you don't really have to put too much effort into resource management and you'll hit the unit cap with little effort so you just create a deathball and hurl it towards your enemies.
I say this but I bet I'd get demolished in PVP though.
sun age is getting a bit old but damn it looked good.
When has CoH3 ever been confirmed?
That said, Relic's demise is likely overblown, they just spent several million opening a brand new office in a new building.
you can mod it to have like 1500+ cap
It hasn't been officially revealed yet but they aren't hiding that they're working on it either.
It's set in the pacific campaign.
No, your closest option is on GoG
>pacific
does that mean it will have naval battles?
Interesting, but the Pacific has always felt like an expansion to an existing game instead of its own game, due to the limited amount of units and parity between the US and IJA.
I feel like they could easily move past WWII and do a Cold War gone hot in the early 1950s kind of thing, which would be pretty neat, since the technology then was still very much similar to WWII but with fighter jets and nukes and whatnot.
Can't believe I've put over 5.6k hours into this.
Still, I kinda lost desire to continue playing a few weeks ago, played some other games instead and can't bring myself to play it anymore.
I had it set to 500. My point is I only had to ctrl+click on a unit in the building that makes them to queue infinite copies of them and just wait since the mana system is incredibly lenient.
Unless you played Zhon of course, that's a bit more high IQ even with Thirsha taking over every lodestone in the map in a blink
I'd actually buy CoH3 if it's set in the pacific. Then I can LARP The Thin Red Line.
How apm intensive is it?
any unit that you are not actively babysitting is dead
Always had trouble organising my control groups in every rts game. How do you guys do it? What's the criteria for picking what unit goes in what group?
Alright fuck that then.
Compared to games like Starcraft? Not much at all. A skilled player probably has over 100 though, easily. I don't know what I manage, I only play team games (2v2, 3v3, and 4v4) and it's less intense in APS in those game modes.
Basically, 1v1 will require a lot of APS and awareness of the map / where your units are positioned, and constantly moving around the map to give orders to your units / throw grenades, fire smoke, or do any of the other micro things you need to do, but it's far less intense or fast paced as other RTS games are.
CoH requires you preserve your units, that's rule #1 as units get veterancy which makes them better, more survivable, and can be upgraded over time, so you really need to be aware of where your units are, so that if say an isolated unit capping a point is getting flanked / surrounded by an enemy blob you can retreat it quickly.
All of the above said, the vast majority of CoH2 players aren't very skilled, it's only when you get into the top 150+ of the leaderboard that you encounter players with actual skill, and even then only really the top 50 or so are decent players.
Play C&C Renegade multiplayer
Instead of controlling a gorillion units you can be a unit and make a difference.
>Spawn
>Pick engineer
>left barracks to start helping my team
>get sniped by GDI scum
Fucckk Kane lives
the only game I ever used control groups in was starcraft, and only because of the 12 unit selection limit
Same but how would they balance the nip faction?
Japan armor division is so fucking poor. I wonder if they even came up with a heavy tank.
They'd be the only faction in the game without a heavy armor option.
I guess you can make them infantry focus but that shit is so easily countered it's not even funny.
Maybe allow them to gain extra resources for sitting on points and have stronger defense options?
Give them some air options?
If they introduce naval combat then there might be a chance and i'll get a fucking erection with the thought of naval and land focused rts set in WW2.
That guy is wrong, it's really not that intense of a game, you should watch some gamecasts or replays if you want to see what it's like.
Of course there's different skill levels for different players, and really great players are great at moving around the map, using control groups, etc.
Most players don't though.
I'd hardly consider myself very skilled, I use arrow keys to navigate the game map, and I don't use too many hotkeys, mostly relying on clicking unit abilities, but I still manage to play well and am ranked in the top 10 in all factions except OKW which I don't play.
Don't forget the fact that you HAVE to constantly click on your buildings to make more units. There's no hotkeys for all the buildings you currently own too so you just have to fucking bind them to a control group.
The pros in CoH 2 rarely use hotkeys and only for very weird specific builds.
Do you only play single player on easy or something
>increase your video game rating
CNC had some random dark stuff on every game, even RA3.
Also, here's a recent cast I found of high level players playing CoH2.
RA3 was a saturday morning cartoon, they couldn't even have nukes because the soccer moms would complain.
Design them around traps and morale (much harder to pin down)
>want coh 3
>seen dow 3
Im not ready, lads. Even dow 3 va were trash compare to other older titles.
Relic used to have god tier va and loved the voices in coh 1 and 2
no, but I do use camera anchors when I have to option, it's way more convenient. I actually just replaced the control group binds in SC2 with camera anchors
I think Relic learned their lesson HARD from how much of an abysmal failure DoW3 was. At least I hope they did.
They're still supporting CoH2 and they know the good things that were accomplished in it, so I would have some hope.
Naval combat is always very tricky. I doubt relic would try it. I mean AoE has it but the ships look ridiculous with how mobile they all are. Imagine ships that fast and maneuverable in company of heroes. But at the same time slowing them down can make them too boring and situational (just look at total war)
Relic arn't retarded enough to make the same mistake twice right?
>see CoH 2 at release
....uhoh...
supcom had top tier naval combat
What are camera anchors? Just hotkeys that put the camera in a designated spot?
Aren't the commanders they're releasing for coh2 all pay 2 win as fuck though?
What's the best RTS of all time and why is it AoE 2?
not really user. It's more about giving the players more options we've been asking for.
Like usf having another cover/house answers and Russia getting some form of paratroopers.
yes
aoe2 is overrated.
What are you talking about?
All of the commanders are pretty well balanced right now, and you don't NEED to pay for them, you unlock them just by playing multiplayer. It might take a little while to unlock ALL of them, a few hundred hours probably, but you can also purchase them using in game currency, not money, and you earn in game currency by playing multiplayer.
I don't like the system, it's not perfect but I've had all of the commanders unlocked for ages, and I still find myself using some of the earliest ones you unlock as they're all well balanced for the most part these days.
Also, they're releasing 5 new community commanders in a few months which just finished undergoing testing. None of them will cost anything.
dow has always been a beta test for coh
CoH2 at release was a product of the whole THQ bankruptcy fiasco though.
Right now as it stands CoH2 is one of the best RTS games Relic has done, and it's far superior to vCoH with all the added features and mechanics it has.
Why is the USF so op in 1v1?
Why cant lelic take off that Allies cock and start nerfing them?
CoH1 comes across as unbalanced because for a long time (like 2-3 years) PAK38's were OP because they were bugged, among other things. Kangaroos were OP resulting in 2 years of "clown car brits" and PE were underpowered compared to Wehr.
A patch finally sorted that out but it took them way too long.
Also at low levels/MMR people think Brit/Wehr blobbing is an unbeatable, bullshit strategy and they're unaware of the advantages/disadvantage of each faction at higher levels of play.
Yanks need to dominate map control, flank constantly and try to end the game as quickly as possible.
Wehr need to hold their ground and slowly build up momentum or hang on for dear life with a good Medic bunker until they get out a King Tiger, Tiger or some vet2 Panthers.
Brits/PE play like the yanks but have a hard time vs snipers, flamers and their reinforce costs are higher.
With Brits they'll generally go Commandos most of the time, but if their early game sucks and they're losing the Engineer corps can get some early off-map tanks in to try and get out of a shit situation. They go arty for team games a lot of the time, or just depending on the map (Semois for example, an arty corps mortar can fire from across the water thanks to the extended range).
Overall I think Brits and PE infantry reinforce costs could be reduced slightly, or Wehr's Grenadier reinforce could be raise or their armor nerfed slightly but overall it's a well balanced game.
Pic related: I'm not a good PE player but this chart is basically how to play PE vs the Yanks
Excuse me sir
JUST DO IT UP
>t. couldn't figure out build orders.
Soviets > OKW > USF > Brits > Ostheer in current state (1v1)
In team games Ostheer is better though. They are making some balance changes to bring Ostheer back in line (buffing Ostwind and Stug).
I think USF is much better than it was a few months ago, but in general balance is probably the best place its been in a long time.
Do you remember a few months ago when OKW Jaeger Light Infantry was seen every single fucking game, because they were 250mp, spawned from any building, were better than volks, etc?
HELIUM MIX OPTIMAL
if you think having a single viable, very difficult to pull off strategy against easy spam into ubeatable OP is balanced you are mentally deficient
tell that to the guy that has his boar spawn behind a line of trees
and pic is another good PE strat.
For Yanks, go the old SAS strat (5 Rifles w/ fast Bars, mines and map control), 5ES (a hipster Engy flamer strat that's good in some instances) or rush an early M8.
For Wehr go defensive with a medbunker, vet2 grenadiers and some pak38s or rush Pumas & Terror doctrine, finishing up with a KT.
I don't disagree with you when you say it's one of relics best rts they ever produced.
However I really fucking love Dow 1.

>lol why cant you just build liek whatever? you should be able to just spam tanks and win using your p2w DLC commander that only has 4 abilities XD
the absolute state of CoH2 players
Nah but i remember years ago when they usrd to kill every inf in sight due to their rifle upgrade.
I do too user, I'm more recent biased though, I haven't played DoW1 in literally ages.
I guess I mean multiplayer if I'm talking CoH2 though, since Relic has so many other great single player RTS games while CoH2's single player is forgettable.
The only fucking thing blizzard did right was probably the Coop mission. There fun even if your not into rts games.
It's also the most played mode in the game rn and honestly I can't stand the gookclick mechanics build into the game.
I don't know why they didn't keep the automated mechanic they added in the beta and why they removed so many interesting units they added either.
Ardenes assualts kind fun though user. I'd say it's not as good as the brits/werm campaign in coh 1 but it's still pretty fucking fun.
I was mainly talking about the standard Soviet campaign, I never did play Ardennes though.
Anyone else went here yet?
kaoskrew.org
some of them have shit video files but most are OK
I usually group them as
Forefront units (melee/tanks)
Ranged (can be divided further by specialization. for instance, one group for anti-infantry units and another for anti-vehicles)
Spellcasters (if multiple different types of caster, each gets their own group for ease of access)
Is there any RTS that comes close to being as aesthetic pleasant as DoW?
>god tier voice acting
>sync kills
>commander duels
>freedom of camera to witness it all
It has so much SOUL
>Be 8 yo
>boot up TA
>after 20 minutes the game is up and running
>Make a custom game against a single opponent
>Start game, rush for air units, get the dropship one
>Grab enemy commander, get rid of his unit production buildings
>Enjoy the whole map and play with the units
>Self-destruct the dropship when I'm done with the game
I had so much fun just fucking around the enormous maps and making new units to know what the fuck they did and how they interacted with the environment. If only I knew how to properly download new units and addons back then.
I was so creative back then with RTS games, and now I'm a slow and ugly old man.
BOMBADIERS TO YOUR STATIONS
WC3
this is just koreans being retarded about starcraft because its an entertainment industry they control
Compared to SC2 and AoE2, its less apm intensive at a mid tier level. Unit micro is much more important though, but even the micro is much less spammy than SC2
Whats unique about COH is that unit positioning with the environment and what angle their facing plays a big part, so you have to be hyper aware of what you're opponent is doing and where key units are
so he was an alien trying to going home, wow Kane ,how original!

The fact that Wehrs get to pretend that Axis is weak because OST sucks while ignoring OKW being the best faction in the game will never not be funny.
I loved the butthurt this webm generated in DOW3 threads
>There's a reason 1 still has 2/3 the player base of 2.
>CoH1 24-hour peak at 1,500
>CoH2 24-hour peak at 6,000
The only people that play CoH1 are autists that can't get over the fact that CoH2's multiplayer is different but better.

>not that it really fucking matters since any buff to allies means the axis get more counter buffs.
UKF is getting nerfs to the Universal Carrier and 6-Pounder. USF is getting nerfs to the Dodge truck. Soviets are getting buffs to Conscripts.
OKW remains untouched and OST is getting massive buffs to Panzergrens, stop pretending that Axis is some kind of oppressed class.
Panther take so much fucking punishment it's not even funny. My jackson takes like fucking 5 shots to penetrate that thing.
There also made out of paper since they go down in 2-3 hits.
Tigers are near invincible. Good luck taking that thing out without killing 3 of your tanks and a AT gun.
How the fuck do you even win as brits in coh 1?
Like seriously the balance in that game is still pretty fucking bad. I love the modding though.
And yet Axis has the fucking audacity to complain about the Jackson because it remains the only Allied TD that can actually have a chance at defeating Axis heavies unlike the Firefly and SU-85
>Like seriously the balance in that game is still pretty fucking bad
They were really bad at implementing Brits and Panzer Elite. Wehrmacht and US are actually balanced really well against each other.
Don't even get me started on the faggots on the relic forums.
I blame them for this. Some nigger was complaining that the wolverine was op because it was cheap and fast.
Despite the fact that's the only fucking thing going for them. They hit harder then shermans but good luck damaging anything higher then a light tank with a sherman.
Yeah that's true user. I wonder with some mods if you can make it a bit better. Honestly COH1 modding is 10x better then coh 2. What the fuck is with relic and blizzard giving there teams less and less tools to do anything fun with there fucking games?
Where pc gamers god dammit give us the tools and will make your game last an eternity.
If you're playing 3v3 or 4v4 you need to be focusing on arty spam to beat Axis, because you'll never win a straight up tank duel.
In 1v1s the Jackson is a much scarier opponent because there are more Pz IVs.

god the entire soundtrack is so great, I like it even more than the Red Alert soundtracks because it's so atmospheric and goes so well with the atmosphere of Tiberian Sun.

warp gate strats were always my favorite back in dow1. I loved playing kaiser luten and building an invisible base right behind the opponents base. I loved warping in my entire army. loved getting avatar of khaine and getting more fireprisms. in dow1 vanilla there was no limit on fire prisms other than vehicle cap. haha. eldar had so much cool shit
Honestly, it depends on what faction you're playing.
When I'm playing Ostheer I'm constantly bitching about Grens not performing well, and my Panthers getting bad RNG and out-ranged sniped by Jacksons.
When I play USF and I'm constantly pissed that my Riflemen cannot handle Volks except by closing in on them and losing health in the process. That said, getting them BARs fixes this, and it's only really an issue at the start of the game.
Also I always get pissed by how fast volks throw incendiary grenades, the animation is so fucking fast and it can be hard to dodge it.
Good thing USF have great artillery options....Oh fucking wait..not they fucking don't.
I have to relie on my allies while my men do all the fucking dying or rush those fucking faggots before late game so I don't have to worry about my lack of ARTY.
I got mortars....yeah shit....
>Iron Harvest
it got picked up by a publisher last month. Deep silver
>still waiting but not getting my hopes up just yet
Reminds me of Red Alert. I had no idea the man was still making music.
Eh, the Calliope is getting a buff, and in addition the Priest is pretty damn good right now (as is the Sexton).
The Pack Howie is still wonderful, and the stock 81mm mortar is a good second unit after a first riflemen.
The one thing USF lacks is a static artillery piece.
60 posts will we hit the bump limit, hopefully someone makes a new thread so we can continue the discussion.
look-how-they-massacred-my-boy.gif
>I blame them for this. Some nigger was complaining that the wolverine was op because it was cheap and fast.
I think a lot of it has to do with Axis commander units usually being worse than Allied commander units so they assume that all commander units the Allies have are OP. This of course completely ignores that Axis and especially OKW have much better commander abilities on average and have stronger base factions overall.
USF and Soviets live and die on the commanders (UKF less so), OST and OKW don't.
>not using your pack howis and priests
you're disappointing Eisenhower
age of mythology
Fall of the Trident campaign
I only play USF but yeah Grens perform weirdly and underperform at times.
That's really the only thing the jackson has going for it user. Hence why it's fair.
Yeah that is weird why the fuck are there grenades so fast? My wind up takes forever but there's are so fast that if I see that fuck boy pop a pin and I didn't click the retreat button i'm in a world of fucking hurt.
>Eh, the Calliope is getting a buff
Yeah I fucking love those things. So far they look reasonable.
>Priest is pretty damn good right now
Too expensive user. That gas could go for another jackson to keep the panthers at bay. Although the couple of times I could afford one they did pretty well, but if you seriously get a sexton first and not you know get actual fucking at your fucked because the second the enemies see that thing there going to fucking kill it.
>Pack Howie is still wonderful
Every time I use that god dam thing it never works out well for me. I have a hard time getting rid of simple placements with the howie. I'll give it another go but man I love that mortar carrier. It's actually pretty fun.
>The one thing USF lacks is a static artillery piece
Lol I covered that. Check up there user.
What it sounds like to me is that OKW is badly designed and needs to have volks turned down but something done to prevent ultra-lights from completely fucking them in the early game.
The Dodge truck nerfs make me want to fucking die.
I would like to ask if anyone knows the name of a game, it was full 3d and had lumber as a resource, it was set in a fantasy setting I remember playing the demo sometime around 2008.
Trust me, the pack howie is such a wonderful weapon, I use it very often, especially since I mostly use the Recon commander (one with Greyhound, airdropped pack howie and airborne, cluster bombs).
It's great to counter OKW, counters Le IGs, counters their HQs if they push them too forward, counters and outranges ostheer mortars, etc.
The Calliope last year, or maybe even earlier than that before it was nerfed was absolutely amazing, it wiped blobs with easy, but they toned it down way too much and it became useless. Now they are buffing it again back to a moderate state though.
Hmmmm thanks user ill use it more, and see if it makes a huge difference.
>The Calliope last year, or maybe even earlier than that before it was nerfed was absolutely amazing,
Yeah I remember that and man I can't wait till that patch comes into the non beta release. I fucking love them and I am so going to use that commander from now on and replace my Paratrooper commander.
gates of hell is coming out soon, new men of war "Sequel" from a new/quasi new team
(physics rts in ww2)
>Now they are buffing it again back to a moderate state though
I think its actually pretty good now. A lot of people are still mad that it doesn't quite have the same general potency of other rocket arty but the Calliope is meant to get in close for a medium sized bombardment area, and if you do that its pretty damn effective
>Greyhound
I've had more than one person rage quit on me after I came up and slapped their AT gun's ass with canister shot.
Yeah, it's my go-to USF commander because of the versitility.
Also, always get zooks on the Airborne squad, they become a monster AT unit with them (like panzergrenadiers but better) since the bazooka model on airborne is pretty much equivalent to a panzershrek with better pen / damage.
Everything in that commander is useful too, the only real downside is the amount of ammo it requires to be useful.
>the bazooka model on airborne is pretty much equivalent to a panzershrek with better pen / damage
It's a small thing but I'm happy that they're adding a little icon to let you know that the support para's have super zooks. Took me forever before I learned that.
I hope they do it to commando brens as well.
>the only real downside is the amount of ammo it requires to be useful
That could be said of USF in general.
>b-b-b-but on steam!!!
most CoH players use custom launchers, the pre-steam version or mods like Eastern Front, Europe in Ruins or OMGmod.
Commando doctrine, keeping your lieutenants alive, using trenches and getting a couple of Cromwells out as fast as you can.
some newbie players try playing Simcity with the turrets or just "britblob" but it doesnt work against people after lvl 7.
>most CoH players use custom launchers, the pre-steam version or mods like Eastern Front, Europe in Ruins or OMGmod.
Sure thing bro
by the way
men of war >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> COH
Why do MoW autists always feel the need to assert their game's quality over CoH?
because
>it's yet another WW2 RTT
honestly I thought the attack the core thing was alright, it was a decent execution of it and an OK game mode to have
shouldnt be the only one in a warhammer game though
>he's only ever played vanilla CoH1
>he's never played Eastern Front
>he's never played the Normandy map in Joint Operations
>he's never played the persistant online in EIR or OMG
mate...
i love the art they got for total annihilation; TA:K was even better
the renders were so otherworldly and isolated
Valkria Chronicals was supposed to be a CoH clone funny enough. That said I always wanted to see an RTS with JRPG look.
>he's never played Eastern Front
I have played EF though, and while I think its one of the better mods for CoH1 I think that the Soviet and Ostfront factions are a little bloated in terms of design.
Is TA really that good? I only played TA:K, how does it compare?
I found it interesting how the little icons exist in HD for every unit, but you never get to see them at a good resolution.
tauniverse.com
Never played TA:K but TA is a fun game. Lots of units with quirks. The unique economic system. And all around fun. My advice is to play TA or SupCom (TA's successor).
>This whole time the Dark Mason was a guy with his mouth open instead of having a mustache
This just ruined my life
It's cast and units were great, the new units were fun to play, but it didn't feel as good as RA2, which is Kommand n Konquer Kino.
yeah, that one fucked me up the most. this one too, like this dudes a cyclops? the fuck
People still play C&C Renegade? I have the CD but never played it before, is it any good?
I SHULD INVENT SUM KINDA MACHINE THAT MAKES WALKIN
FASSTAH!
Play Myth.
yeah, people play the multiplayer during afternoons, I just wish it was more popular like it was back during gamespy days.
As you may know you play as a soldier and change jobs and buy C&C vehicles or aircraft and try to destroy the other faction base. I like playing at Interim Apex servers because it has a lot of mods and a gorillon new vehicles compared to the original game. Rencorner Maraton server is old as fug, but still gets players that want to just play classic renegade, but without mods, those autists can spend 6 hours fighting in a single map, they just did last weekend.
If you want to play multi read this
cncnet.org
the single player was fun too.
But I am.
>heard about the new dune movies in the works
>really excited for them since they're being directed by the dude that did the new bladerunner
>dug around and found my old copy of Emperor Battle for Dune
>start enjoying sweet nostalgia
>lament the fact that there hasn't been a dune RTS in almost TWO FUCKING DECADES
>18 FUCKING YEARS
IT ISN'T FAIR BROS.
Would you even want one in this age?
Because Emperor's cutscenes were kino and the game was fun. I love the aesthetic of the games and setting and I've loved the series and books ever since I was a kid. I want Emperor but HD.
Why did the first movie get panned so badly in the box office.
After reading the first book I decided to just read a summary of the rest of the story and watch the movies. From what I can tell it's moderately faithful.
Is it that the movie going audience never picked up the book or did the film cut too many corners and should of made it several sequels long to get the full story?
the film is a bit of a mess in all of its official releases, but there is a remedy:

Thanks for keeping the thread alive. We will be waddleing to bump limit soon lads.
Stupid motherfucker that was patched ages ago
the patches have only made things worse
fun fact: the supreme commander engine is named the "moho" engine, referencing the tier 2 extractors from TA
Fun fact: Seraphim is the best faction.
Also i didn't know that. Neat.
>random mish mash of all the best stuff from the other factions
>OP in general
>best
Seraphim are literal race traitors. UEF is the only way to be.
FACT: The old Earth Empire did nothing wrong.
You're thinking Aeon. Seraphim cant be race traitors if they're another race entirely.
I wish they would show up Alia as a childbride consuming her marriage haha, just a joke bros.
>oppress the symbionts and use them as slaves
>nothing wrong
Is anyone else still optimistic about iron harvest?
gave me console vibes and i would rather have a straight ww1 game
If iron harvest succeeds maybe more companies will jump on the rts bandwagon.
So yes also I want to stop fucking play CoH 2 and wait for 3.
Hey if they want to abandon their humanity that's on them, they don't get human rights anymore.
Hope has been lost real fast once gameplay started to come out. Looks like a worse CoH.
You're right, they perform twice the amount of calculations any human can. Why have silly human rights when they are greater than humans. If you don't want to coexist then you will die like the rest.
>posting the biased small guide
Lol
Oh fuck that looks intersting. Are we finally getting basically a 64 bit version of MoW? Fuck call to arms.
>Yo devs give a 64 bit mow please
>nag them for YEARS
>instead the make CTA
>it sucks no one plays it
>poeple start porting mow content into it
>the devs send cease and desists to the mod creators for copyright
>all the Mow to CTA mods get taken down
>the devs ruined the only real selling point of cta which was that it could serve as a de facto 64 bit Mow
this is the dumbest shit ive ever heard
They can. The Way is a religion of peace. The seraphim you fight in the game are a warrior caste that have abandoned enlightenment.
